when your skin is frigid, most of the heat of your body travels to your chest. this means that when you get hit you hurt more from contrast than actual impact. when your warm blood is evenly distributed its fine, when its concentrated, once the blood travels to your impact point, the contrast between cold and warm multiplies the pain multiplefold 1:04

this mans really just implied someone is stupid for saying things hurt more when it's cold out because "your bones are frozen and therefor crack" after, and I quote, saying "is it cause your blood is gone and it can't cushion?"

He's technically right tho. Without the warmth of the blood, your skin becomes more rigid, and therefore has less impact absorption
Except.. he's potentially right. Less blood flows to your extremities when you're cold, to preserve the heat of your internal organs, causing your skin to become tighter or more rigid. That makes a blow impact your nerves harder. Especially in spots where there isn't much muscle protecting it, like your elbow or knees.
There isn't one, concrete, answer though. There are multiple theories about it, and different explanations depending on where the pain is. If it's something like joint pain, it could be something completely different.

But wouldn't warmth hurt more? Nerves function through osmosis and osmosis works better in a warmer environment. So wouldn't the signal in the nerve cells travel better and thus hurt more when you're warm?

Your body is tense when you're cold, which means that your body can't "absorb" as much of the shock. Whereas if your body is warmer/relaxed it isn't so damaged by solid impact.

to answer your cold question, heat makes everything expand and cold makes everything shrink. so when it is cold out, your skin and everything under it shrinks. this means that you have less cushion to soften the impact

9:25 I'm pretty confident most people with this opinion of cats haven't actually put time into a cat. I have had and rescued more cats than I can count and every single one of them is unique and loving in their own way. Dogs have personalities too but the majority of them are the same, save for special quirks, and that's not a bad thing. Some people, like Ludwig, want the predictable affection all dogs have for a good owner which is totally fine. However the idea that cats are always indifferent and aloof to their owners is wrong. Cats generally show affection in a very mellow manner compared to dogs that can't stop moving and constantly want to slobber on your face. Although I do have a cat currently that is exactly like a dog in that she gets all up in your business wanting affection. You can straight up slap this cat, like actually hard, bordering physical abuse and she'll beg for more. I think she was a kinky bitch in a past life but that's besides the point. I like dogs but I will always choose cats.

The reason why that happens is because our nerves are trying to get our blood back to our limbs while most of it goes to the heart, so the nerves are working hard to get feeling in your limbs, and when u get hit rly hard, since your body is essentially trying to get feeling back, it hurts a fuck ton.

If I remember correctly the science behind being cold and things hurting worse is because cold temperatures make your nerve ending hundreds of times more sensitive, this is because the colder a thing get the more the molecules that make up the object expand
However its been over 2 years since I last studied science so...

a good way to get cats/kittens to start tolerating nail trims is to play with their paws! My favorite is to give my cats little toe bean massages since it gets them used to me extending their claws

I thought it was when you are cold, the particles that make up your skin get closer together and move slower, and when you get hit by something, it expandes the particles apart from each other quickly thus making it hurt more than if you where hotter
@@vineetr3289 its like that, but it also has to do with energy transferring on contact. Because the particles are slower, the energy transfer is the same amount, but at a much slower pace so all that pain energy transfer just sits there longer
Fun fact: a kid in my school died exactly like 1:29 , the pole fell onto his head and cracked his skull open, there was a blood pool, the police came and there is now a plaque to conmemorate him, anyways moving on.

Hey Ludwig, I see that you wanted to learn more about koi ponds. My family owns one (we didn’t actually buy it, it came with the house at an unusually cheap price) so I figured I could tell you more about it. Every week there’s some guys that come and clean the pond for less than an hour. You have to have filters, lots of food and a large enough space (we have around 20-30 in a 10x5x10 I think, I’m not sure of the dimensions). It’s a bit of trouble and probably a lot of money.
