Hey everyone! Thanks so much for your patience on this! It originally got blocked for copyright after it uploaded so I had to cut out any footage from the Olympics. For those of you who need subtitles, it'll just take a bit of extra time but it'll be available soon! The footage I cut out was when my guest was talking about OTHER competitors and how well they did and I used footage to support what he was saying. You're not missing any information due to the copyright, just visual support for the points he was making. Thanks again for your patience and understanding.
As an Australian, its not hate if we felt embarrassed by the performance. We have all seen what breakdancing is like and that performance was far from it. It just looked very silly and something from a comedy skit.
aussie here too and agreed the "hate" is well called for consdering how she go there (her and hubby created the company to get her there and he was on the judge board)
So why are you not embarrassed by the Aussie female 100m sprinter that didn't get passed the first round. Clearly she was a joke thinking she was somehow going to run 1.5 seconds faster than she ever had before? Imagine going to the Olympics with full knowledge you are not going to come close to getting a medal let alone getting into the final. We should cast this level of judgement on every Olympian that finished last in their event.
My question is, why did everyone around her let her go, do the sprinkler, dinosaur, and the kangaroo? "You're so good honey" "we are so proud of you" instead of "are you sure, it doesn't look good"
@@freedomofchoicelover3734 Surely, her husband/coach was fully aware of what she intended to perform at the Olympics, but he said nothing. He seems to perform at the same level as his wife.
@@LemonThyme1933 Have seen a video of him, he can't do power moves either. Pretty bad when there are 5 things that you are judged on and you can't do one of them.
I don't know when she decided to do that, it wasn't what she did at the qualifiers. She ranked 64/80 at the last world championships so it seems like she decided to be 'original' seeing as she knew that she didn't have a chance
I saw a video by an Australian blogger comparing this woman's performance to that of Paralympian break dancers and they were SOOO much better than her. The blogger said something like "If people without legs can dance better than you in a dance that requires legs then you should expect some criticism" or something like that! The Paralympians are well worth a watch btw, they're amazing 🤩
I saw that, too. I believe it came out on this channel: Someone pointed pointed out that breakdancing I'd a dance form that depends on challenge/criticism. But she can't handle criticism
@@LindaC616 She grew up in the new college system (kind of started with the elementary school participation trophies BS!) and colleges are doing a dis-service to all their students by not teaching them to think critically!! Top colleges who use to have the best of the best students who had gpas of 2.75 now have some of the worse students thanks to DEI and the gpas are 3.98 cause teachers are afraid to criticize their poor performances and outright stupidity!
@@LindaC616Then I am sorry you are WOKE because that is what has changed the college scenarios - people who have low grades but the right "other" stuff.
I’m also an Aussie, and the mood here is one of embarrassment and disbelief that Raygun is the best female breakdancer Australia could send. My daughters are dancers and have been dancing since they were little, and I can tell you that the level of talent and skill I’ve witnessed over the years watching young dancers at Australian competitions is outstanding. I know we have real dance superstars in Australia, so I don’t understand how Raygun was sent to represent us.
I think that is why I personally don't blame her completely. Other people were involved and certain events leading to it. It also seems like she was mislead to believe that she could compete with pros from other countries.
@marzaak11 Because Raygun was judged to be the best in competition at our Olympic qualifying event, the WDSF Oceania Breaking Championship held in Sydney in October 2023. Is she really the best we have? I am led to believe she is not but the others, such as B-girl Mags, chose to compete in the Red Bull BC One World Final that took place on October 21, 2023 in Paris, France. They chose to not attend the Olympic qualifying event and so clearly were not interested in representing Australia at the Olympics.
I’m Australian. I dont hate her- and it must be devastating for her. BUT why was she there and how did she think she could represent us in an Olympic competition?? It’s embarrassing as we have so much talent here in Australia!
What pisses me off about Raygun's video message is that she STILL thinks she's great at breaking and directs people to look at the percentages. But if you look at the percentages it's further proof that not only did she just lose but she was soundly decimated.
Decimating means something was reduced by 10%. It means decimation took place. Decimated was a punishment in roman legions where every tenth person was killed. She wasn't decimated. She was obliterated.
@@TheCarabailey As an aussie, i've always found our ''hiphop culture', i.e grafiti, breaking, rap etc to be a cringe 'emulation' of the authenticity of the US. We don't have the same socio-economic backbone, culture, history or societal context as places where these activities developed with purpose, but we adopt the facade anyway and it feels like such a put-on thing and all the people doing it don't know how lame they look.
Imagine going to a beat box competition, and you are still doing biff-psss biff-biff-psss. It might pass as a party trick but not on an international platform against world-class performers.
Breaking pioneer Crazy Legs slams Raygun over Olympic performance: “She was taking an opportunity from someone else” “Breaking comes from a culture of people who have lived a difficult life - so when we see something like that we’re like, ‘Yo, is that a joke?” “Maybe it’s a hobby for her - and that’s fine. Do your thing, girl, have fun. But you’re on the wrong stage. “You can’t just go in there and disrupt a whole culture of people. “There should be an investigation into why the World DanceSport Federation allowed this to happen. They should have required a certain level of expertise to be at the Olympics. “It would have been nice if she had bowed out. She was taking an opportunity from someone else. “You don’t have to be an expert to a drive a car but you have to be good enough not to hurt other people on the street”
Exactly. I would have said I was sick leading up to the olympics. I was in hospital and was discharged the day before 😂 or just left it out entirely ahahahhaha
Someone can work really hard at something and still not be very good at it. What surprises me is that, in preparation for competition, performers are usually taped and their performances are critiqued. Anyone could see that her performance didn't even compare to people you can see on the street.
She stated prior to the olympics that she was training 4-5 times a week for 2-3 hours each time, so approx 12 hours a wekk. J-Attack, in interviews provided stated that he was training every day for 6 hours a day (so 30+ hours a week). Im reading online that most professional bboys/bgirls train at least 6 hours a day everyday. Simeone Biles trains for 36 hours a week. Swimmers train 30-40 hours a week. So I can say with confidence her "I worked my butt off" is 100% a lie.
I seriously doubt any hate has been thrown her way. The world is mocking her. Because seriously, that performance at the Olympics made it seem like SHE was mocking breakdancing.
What an amazing guest! We all have eyes, even if we don't know the ins and outs of breaking, we can all tell she didn't do great. But he was so graceful when explaining absolutely everything, so detailed and generous toward the whole situation and even when answering the hard questions. Thanks for introducing us to this amazing human, who is not only extremely good at his job, but also kind and humble.
Great interview, as an Aussie I appreciate that you’re not walking on eggshells and calling a spade a spade. It’s frustrating to hear those who are defending her, and it’s disappointing that she has not yet apologised. She never should have been there and she needs to admit that and accept accountability.
But she didn't select herself. Her friends, the judges and officials who selected her and all those committees or whatever are to blame. I cant swim but if a bunch of people told me im the best and offer to fly me to olympics.. im gonna go and let the chips fall where they may.. its her support and feedback group that is to blame imo.
@@zulubeatsprince well that’s not something I can relate to sorry. I’m able to look athletes and know that my skill level is beneath them. People telling me I’m good wouldn’t change what I’m seeing. I could understand you saying that in reference to a child, like Kim K’s daughter playing the Lion King thinking she can sing. But not a 36 year old woman who’s been breakdancing for a long time and still not realising she’s no good at it. I do agree however that it’s also the fault of those who sent her.

wrong, you'll be judge by judges, the world can have their opinion, but they choose to hate and unload their frustration on social media. people suffer from all kind of injustice all around the world, but we dont take offense in that, that is not scandalous, a girl in the olympics is. .
@@eiguajardo It was an injustice when she stole the opportunity from someone who could have done it better. You do not count that injustice? Where does the right of one end and the other begin? If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
I’ll tell you what was devastating: watching her make such a mockery of a profoundly intricate, physically demanding and creative athletic/creative expression.
What I find brave, is cleaning up one's own s before tearing someone else's life to shreds over 3 minutes on a dance mat, if you get what I mean. Blessings to you. 🙂
I think what gets under people's skin, is that fact that she kind of represents so much of what is going on in society. We want people to do well. We are happy when people succeed. But so often we are seeing people who shouldn't be where they are, but they are there because they either knew the right people or made people feel sorry for them. It is not only discouraging, but can be dangerous.
Yeah, it feels like she's Aussie's DEI breakdancer. Put on the Olympic stage and we all were supposed to pretend she's worthy? Told we're "mean" for noticing she sucked.
Her behaviour is a global trend that I have noticed. People generally have become so self-absorbed and they lack objectvity to the point that anything that differs from their little house of cards is already labelled as hate and is vilified. As a result, people put out mediocrity and expect it to be lapped up with no critical thinking. That's why there's jokes like: "Everybody's so creative." The interviewee should not be wasting his compassion on her. Yes, we all start somewhere, but to get to the Olympics, one should have a minimum level of performance that places them above average, let alone mediocre. Otherwise, every beginner should be allowed to participate everywhere. My question then is: What is the value of mastery in any discipline then? Her performance was awful and a complete mockery of the craft, the audience and the Olympics as a whole, that's statement of fact. What's worse is that she seemed to be condescending about it because she was on the world stage and had the attention on her. If that's not a high level of narcissism then I don't know what is. We may speak of compassion and grace but where is her humility and contrition for her behaviour?
Her complete lack of self awareness is quite frankly unbelievable, but that in itself speaks volumes. She is so narcissistic that it is quite possible that she totally unaware that what she has done is absolutely disgraceful.
She's just upset she got caught being a fraud... Why should we put more into it than that... Olympic level athletes know they're being mistreated.... At least she saved one from being there this time.
I think that it was all about the millions she is about to get in interviews and book deals. Being a professional victim can really pay big if one knows what one is doing.
Activists only goals are destroying traditional systems that they view to be capitalist in nature. The Olympics being about elite athletic meritocracy is exactly what she would believe fully bis capitalist in nature
@@buddygrimfield7954 I hope she gets nothing. I hope that for the rest of her life, her name does not arise without giggles and guffaws being involved
Even with all the debunking of how she made the Olympic team.... I still feel like there is something off. How is it possible there was not one female breakdancer in all of Australia that wasn't better than Raygun? If she can't see just how bad she is.... then she deserves the criticism. Not hate or bullying but fair objective criticism.
That is exactly what I said! She doesn’t deserve to be bullied but DEFINITELY deserves criticism. The Olympic standard has to be so above the average person’s ability that it makes everyone say “wow, that’s impressive! I could never do that.” Instead, her performance had everyone saying “even I can do that!”
From what I've seen, she may not quite be the best, but it's really just comparing levels of awfulness. The issue I have is that she took the spot away from someone who would have at least tried.
She entered a bunch of "lower level" breaking comps where some/many could have been rigged as her husband was a judge for a number of em (such as this 2022 Molly vs Ray: ua-cam.com/video/fRyo3d8p4GA/v-deo.html). Conflict of interest = possible rigging. So, if these lower level comp were rigged, thats how she got her #1 bbgirl ranking with Ausbreak, which led to Ausbreak sending her to international comps and supporting her financially. Maybe the #1 bbgirl ranking (where she got it from rigged comps) is what led to her to grow this delusional thinking that she was good?
There definitely was something off she got into the Olympics through networking with other activists on positions of power. It's all to delegitamize a longstanding system
Your guest, Mr Velez, was so outstanding - even before you asked him the question about isn't he angry/upset, I was marvelling at his compassion, empathy, his kind understanding - what a great role model! I am definitely going to look up his work. And I loved your analysis too. Great commentary on the whole thing by both of you (from an Aussie who lives in the UK!) 🙌🙌
I was looking for a comment about this and was about to write the same 💯 I was sadly surprised that I didn't find other people commenting about the guest...
Have you not seen the Olympics? It always has several 'athletes' that should not be there and fail utterly miserably. More famous ones would be Erik the Eal and Eddie the Eagle
that's not her fault. That's the judges. Would you really say no at an opportunity of being in the olympics? I mean if you're scared or a lazybum, then probably but I wouldn't. I would try and that would be up to the judges.
@@obrynNo, not the judges, it's the Olympic idea that all continents should have representation if possible and that there was a cap of max 2 participants per country for breaking. The breaking participants from Oceania, Africa and refugees were much lower quality than the rest and only there to represent Oceania, Africa and refugees, not because they are the best in the world. In a marathon it doesn't matter if someone is much slower, in swimming it doesn't matter either. But when it's battles and you can't repeat moves it skews the competition because people that are matched with the "duds" that aren't even top 50 in the world get basically free points and can save their moves for better opponents.
I saw Raygun's attempt to manipulate viewers into believing she deserves a participation medal, and attacking us with key words like "Hate" and playing the victim card... How about all the B girls who were more deserving of representing Australia??? Seeing her background and getting a PHD Thesis on the whole victimhood of women trying to "break" into the patriarchal break dance community, and yet she created her own hierarchy which she denied many underprivileged dancers funding all strategized to favor her to represent Australia... I have zero sympathy for her as she is using her funding by taxpayers to travel Europe...
And now we're seeing Raygun manipulating the matriarchal political community to support her theoretical "experience" of breakdancing to justify her status as an olympian. I see it all the time in Australian state & national competition of quiet achieving athletes with superior performance ability get undermined by loud mouths like her competing with nothing more than theory knowledge, and then when they get justifiably crucified by the judges they focus on some area of the sporting body or society to cry accusations of maltreatment towards, instead of having a bit of self reflection & saying to themselves "Maybe I could could raise the standards of this sport & improve my athleticism if I dedicated more of myself to integrity & the practical side of breakdancing."
@@carpathianken yes, I looked through her PHD Thesis about the victimhood of B girls up against a patriarchal structure that was the break dancing community...🙄 With that, she victimed her way into the break dance community and established a new hierarchy which discriminated against underprivileged dancers by denying funding or even knowledge of the Olympic tryouts... Rather than the AOC protecting her, they should file an investigation to prevent such clowns from grifting their way to the top.
@@carpathianken what exactly is "the matriarchal political community"? I've never heard of anything referred to in that way. Are you trying to blame this on feminism?
@@uffda3937 It's the mainstream Australian community that has a strong female (& a male voice to make it a balanced democracy) voice to it, breakdancing historically doesn't have that in Australia . I don't blame feminism, it's just that I'm not surprised Raygun would manipulatively use the matriarchal side of the Australian political society to attempt to have it side with her narrative of the perceived mistreatment due to her dreadful breakdancing performance. Even the chef de mission head lady of the Australian Olympic contingent was compelled to come forward & make a media statement that was aired on national TV to say how brave Raygun had been to go from a girl crying in the locker rooms to compete in the male dominated sport of breakdancing, which lost her no end of respect because she should have been using the opportunity to applaud the Australian olympians that did compete with success for Australia. Raygun can cry misogyny all she likes but at the end of the day the olympic judges decision is final & the judges don't lie.
You know I'm so confused whether if she's truly 1) OVERCONFIDENT, that she thinks what she did was olympic level and that whatever is said about her performance is "hate". Or 2) It's her way of deflecting the "hate" (which is actually just objective criticism) so she's in DENIAL 😂 Just accept the criticism and say you'll be better. Stop denying it! It just makes her look insane because she couldn't see reality and lacks self awareness
"I went into the highest level for competitive sports on Earth. I had no idea I would be observed and judged on performance. This is 2024 after all.........."
There is a serious cultural problem in the west Australia and the US - where the victims are completely discounted. She robbed a genuinely talented break dancer from the chance at Olympic competition. She knew she was doing it. She was allowed to do it and now she’s playing a victim because people are calling her out on it. This happens throughout society right up to the point of actual criminals getting off on light sentences or no sentences and the victims not even being allowed to protest. It’s not about bashing or condescending - it is about holding people responsible for their actions and ensuring that others see that they are held accountable.
I disagree. I think someone she trusted encouraged her, and maybe even if someone DID say she sucked, she wasn't willing to hear that message because of the positive reinforcement in her life.
@@Ainglish-qj5bb You’re very generous, but she’s far too senior in the breaking community for that to be true. The only way that’s possible is if breaking in Australia is 40 years behind the rest of the world. While I suspect it is behind - clearly - it’s not that bad given the other Australian we saw, who had the skills and moves. I think the key comment in the video was her “having a go”. This isn’t Togo in the bobsled competition, it is Australia, where keen athletes aren’t having a go - they are competing to win. There are more qualified breakers and one of them was robbed.
@@AdamIndikt Maybe many more than one-- if the administration is willfully corrupt, as it might be, then pettiness, jealousy or willful malice might have prevented applicants from consideration or acceptance based on the whims of an unfortunate appointee.
I think there's a serious cultural problem in the entire western hemisphere that lead to them panderblasting breakdancing into the Olympics. Water polo ballet whatever was bad enough, this is rich kid shit for modern audiences I guess. The refined palette of the effete silken slippered indoor cat on the go.
Word up, for the Hip-Hop culture here is some very thought provoking background information on the entire Raygun fiasco for any interested people... When breaking was announced as an Olympic sport for 2024 the AOC went to DanceSport Australia who in turn went to Raygun and her husband Samuel Free. Raygun and Samuel Free brought in AUSBreaking (which was created in October 2019 around the same time as the Olympic announcement of breakdancing in 2024) to help them organize the Olympic breaking qualification process. A $275,000 grant was given for them to oversee and to help them organize the Olympic qualification process through AUSBreaking. Raygun's husband (who is a physically challenged break-dancer) wanted to represent Australia in Paris but due to an alleged leg injury he became an Olympic team breaking coach - Raygun's coach specifically. Raygun then became their focus of getting to Paris which would make for a storybook tale of PhD Dr Raygun going from academic to Olympian. Money was to be made from books, speaking engagements, honors-awards, TV appearances, movie on her life, and more. She would also become the face of female breaking in Australia all the while enhancing her academic and national celebrity profile - a living legend. They (AUSBreaking) then rushed the Olympic qualification process which kept many of Australia's best female breakers out of the event. Only 14 of the 16 female qualification spots were filled - all by friends of Raygun. Raygun subsequently defeated Holy Molly, someone she had defeated at least 3 times prior despite Holy Molly visibly being the better break-dancer (their previous battle videos are on YT), to qualify for Paris. Raygun had almost a year to come up with an Olympic routine but knowing that she was outclassed her and her husband came up with that buffoonery that we saw in Paris. Raygun then doubled down in a post-Olympic public statement claiming that she worked really hard preparing for Paris and gave it her all. In the end all of their behind the scenes manipulation of the Olympic qualifying process blew up in their faces. Raygun has done nothing but steal from the Hip-Hop culture since she got involved with breakdancing. From her PhD in Cultural Studies (Deterritorializing Gender In Sydney's Breakdancing Scene: A B-girl's Experience Of B-boying) to her manipulating the Australian break-dance scene through her manufactured AUSBreaking organization breakdancing profile full of highly questionable wins and national rankings to her disastrous Olympic appearance has all been for self gain at the detriment of the culture. Raygun is a propped up academic poser who has been perpetrating a serious fraud - she's not down by law!! You reap what you sow... as the old saying goes.
Woah! Thanks for filling in this crucial context. Even without it, it was clear that she has no respect for the culture. ESPECIALLY if that really was the best she could do and she went on a global stage anyway. But how much more vile the context makes her statement! It’s a slap in the face to people who really did work hard to try to get that chance and got snubbed over nepotism and manipulation. She is getting no real hate but she definitely deserves some for the things she did off the stage. What a clown!
@@dcarter455 No problem. I just don't like how she made a mockery of the culture on the global stage and took the shine away from all of the medal winners who were dope. Also, she can break better than what she did at Paris but she still isn't very good overall. She has no power moves to speak of and just mostly flails around on the ground. There are other B-Girls in Australia way more talented than her but she's the most popular due to her PhD (Cultural Studies), honors/awards and national celebrity status. She's a fraud.
That was long but explains so much. To me it felt like some kind of PhD thesis she was going to write about, but I guess she already has one? What I couldn’t understand, and what no one see,s to really talk about is how she got there in the first place. How could there not be other amazing breakdancers from Australia? Can you provide any sources for this? Not that I don’t believe you, that sounds very much like what happened 😭 I want to know for sure though amidst the gaslighting coming from her AND the AOC
I think the public focussed their attention on her more than the incredibly talented breakdancers, because no one expected someone with her skill level at the olympics, whereas everyone expected the incredibly talented breakdancers....it's the olympics after all.
I think you might be overestimating the talent. This reminds me of a video I watched recently where some university goofballs were studying punk (or some similar underground music) and thought themselves equal to the artists from decades ago. It’s a crazy mindset that students and academics can think of themselves as equals to people that have actually done the thing. Their hubris is unsettling.
Can she accept reality or will she only search out and listen to people who care more about protecting her feelings than providing her with TRUTH? Does she have the inner strength to withstand reality? I’m guessing she doesn’t, but time will tell.
Just came to say that Flipz has the same "extremely likeable" quality that you have. Not sure what it is, but I loved to see his compassion and grace towards her. Thanks, Spidey!
I completely agree! I think it is maybe a combination of having a high degree of knowledge that can be incredibly technical but able to talk about it passionately and in a way that somebody who's never encountered the subject can completely understand what they're saying. It's an amazing skill, and to deliver it in such an engaging way is doubly impressive. You can tell they both have a deep appreciation for their fields and an excitement to bring knowledge to people as well as learn continually about it.
No one you say? Are you familiar with how terrible people are on the internet? With that level of noterity (we're talking hundreds of millions of people knowing about her), she most definitely has received full-on hate. No doubt she's had people telling her to kill herself. Even if you discard the overtly hateful comments (which would be many), she's still receiving mountains of negativity from the average person. Can you imagine receiving THOUSANDS of messages telling you how awful you are? Sure, her performance was awful, but when is enough enough?
It's been shameful the amount of targeted hate and ridicule this woman has endured, from people it had nothing to with personally. The woman had a not so favourable three minutes on a dance mat, that is true. As an Aussie, I feel it wasn't her best moment, no. But she doesn't deserve the same kind of attention given to actual criminals, who set out to do harm. This woman and her family's lives have been affected. There have been threats of harm. Fgs. Who was physically damaged by this dance? No one. Aussies had their pride bent, yes. So what? Get over it. If it had been their sister/daughter/wife/friend etc, how would they react at this kind of treatment of them? It's ridiculous. It's done. It's over. Move on.
As an Australian I can tell you the way she says she ‘worked her butt off for these Olympicsssss…’, means she’s saying ‘I’m making this statement and don’t you dare disagree with me’. Kind of a passive agressive way of speaking (because you’re extending the last word and stretching it out.
I know it is not zero points, but look at the table, it was effectively the lowest score a judge can give within the rule. So it made no difference if it is zero, it is very very low.
bro no one here has any right to hate an olympic performance. you could not do any better. (not that it was good, but it's dumb to hate on someone better than you)

My assessment, She’s from the woke University’s , her Doctorate is in Politics of Breaking, can you imagine sending your child to University and find out that’s a Major ?, she got a free trip to Paris, I think she’s a narcissist who’s had her ego stroked for years and just got a giant spoonful of reality
I think she's a manipulator and an imposter. The question that needs to be answered is if she got in through fraud or gross incompetence. I do not have sympathy for someone that achieves their position without merit.
It wasn't without merit and there wasn't any manipulation. The competitors simply weren't very good. The World DanceSport Federation conducted the selection process and the judges were a panel of international well known people from the breakdancing community. None of them were Australian. Anyone from Oceania could compete by simply registering and turning up at the selections in Sydney. There were 37 men, but only 15 women showed up. The judges decided that she was best on the day, and if you watched it you'd see that there wasn't much talent in the whole field. The main problem is that if she'd performed the same routine that she did at the qualifiers, then no one would be aware of what happened. She may have come last, but it wouldn't have been reported on and it would just fly under the radar. But instead, she had a brainfart and decided to be 'creative'. By jumping around like a kangaroo, posing like a T-rex, and flailing around on the floor, she performed a ridiculous routine that had little to do with breaking, and she opened herself up to the ridicule of the world. This could have been avoided if she'd simply performed the routine somewhere before the Olympics and someone would have let her know how ridiculous it was.
It is not hate Raygun, it is legitimate criticism and observation. We are allowed to like or dislike something we see. She needs to understand that we have freedom of speech and opinion. She needs to ditch the victim narrative and accept some of us didn't like her 'performance'.
She doesn't even care. Her actions line up with being an activist looking to get inside an elite program that celebrates athletic meritocracy. People like her view the Olympics as a symbol of capitalism to be destroyed.vby throwing VA wrench in there are destroying the legitimacy of these elite athletes.
But not freedom of facts. There have been accusations of rigging the system, that her husband was on the selection panel, that she took the place of someone more deserving, of not taking the competition seriously. All false and all debunked. There has been hate.
@@buddygrimfield7954 - She used the term "hate" to characterise criticism of her presentation, which says to me she is inside an ideological bubble. Trolling would suggest she's aware her presentation is kaka.
If it was a dance for "expressions", she nailed it. But it was Breakdance, she did almost ZERO of it. She did more Breakdance in the carpark than on stage, THAT is insulting to others.
Her expressions were actually not on point either, watched a UA-cam short with another person doing her dance side by side with the video of her, and his expressions were waaaaaaay better
I had never realized how in depth the science of reading body language was before recently subbing to this channel. It is interesting because a lot of the stuff you make observations on is only obvious once it is pointed out. Then it often kind of clicks that it was something that you more of less knew that people (or you, yourself) were doing if only at an intuitive level. But hearing it put into words by someone is rather intriguing.
Haha yeah it’s definitely an art based on science. I often compare it to meteorology. The science can tell you the patterns and what they normally mean and then putting it together in each context is a science based art with an obvious margin of error (which is why we rarely speak in absolutes)
Why on earth would she point _ANYONE_ to her score sheets??? They're absolutely devastating. Her opponents' percentages were sometimes orders of magnitude above her! She was swept clean in every entry except on creativity.
She and her husband have been milking government funds for their dance association for years, she won her spot from a panel of judges overseen by her husband, and then receieved a scholarship to fund her training AFTER she won. They fleeced Australia on a world stage, made a mockery of the sport, and should be banned from professional competition permanently.
@@Hyst3ricalCha0s nothing has been debunked. It’s comical this words keeps being thrown around. Both are integral to the community that created the process for evaluating for Olympics minus one event. And that event we know less about who the judges are. Not that they had no ties to these two.
She doesn't get a free pass from me just because she tried hard. Academics is not athletics and she, of all people, should know why she scored so poorly. Her obfuscation of that point (pun intended) is insulting to the real athletes.
great interview with your friend flipz. definitely a classy guy representing his passion and not completely discouraging this girl. he just commented on how long it traditionally takes to get to the level needed for the olympics and with dedication and total commitment it can be achieved. he's definitely an amazing ambassador to his sport. i admit i know nothing at all about break dancing. nothing, except i am always blown away by the talent of the people that perform it. and although i'd like to be supportive of this girl and her bravery for going on the olympic stage, i don't think she was ready to be there. 🤷♀️
She wasn’t even close to being at the level. She had to know she didn’t belong there. I wonder if she just selfishly thought how cool it would be to be in the Olympics and saw an opportunity to make it happen. I just can’t feel sorry for her for getting the consequences of her own actions.
For sure she knew she wasn't at the same level. She has competed at world championships and last year was ranked 64/80. She can't do power moves so I am confused as to how she qualified when she can't meet one of the 5 judged criteria.
I think Spidey was right about the point > She overestimated the importance of creativity, and thought it would make up for a lack of athleticism. But as far as the jury during the qualification is concerned, that is not enough of an explanation for me. There is more to it than that. Maybe the jury members knew her name and who she was in academia, and were more likely to vote for people they knew!? No matter what, it should be clarified so that it doesn't happen again!
As the parent of a breaker, she embarrassed the artful dance form and use her privilege to take a spot from a true competitor from her country. Life comes easy when you create the governing board for the sport and through nepotism award yourself an Olympic spot.
I am a real empath normally but not in this case!! It's not about hate, it's about logical outcome of her choice. People respect and expect real competitors at Olympics who are the best of the best. If she wanted to "bring joy" - she should have joined the entertainment industry. Period
@@gtaatmiami yep, all the people even 60 years old who can do her “breaking “ what’s sad, is that all people are talking about is her antics and the real athletes aren’t getting the attention.
“Worked my butt off” bullshit she half asses it, other wise she would be able to do power moves, it is absolutely a total joke that she made it to the Olympics.
I couldn't help but go into a deep internet dive around her breaking background, following the terrible display at the Olympics. Personally, I find her very smug & painfully unaware of her lack of skill in breakdancing. I also get the impression that she has been surrounded by "yes, you're good" people for years, wth no-one being honest with her. Her husband is an absolutely shocking breaker & his influence & coaching too, raises many questions. At the end of the day, Australia is known as a strong sporting nation & we send the best to the Olympics... I think we are owed an honest & detailed explanation as to how Raygun qualified for the Olympics & more information around quality breakers who may have been excluded from participating. There are major kinks in the chain for someone with Raygun's skills to be on the Australian Olympic team.
People saying she was terrible isn't hate. Yes, there are jerks, but don't go on a global stage and not expect criticism. Especially a free trip across the world to do...that. And I looked at the percentages per HER suggestion...it made her performance look even worse. Out of 270 categories she won seven, I think? I'm not interested in breakdancing at all, but if people say she did poorly, that's not hate. The numbers prove it. It was proven she legitimately qualified, but I saw the opponents, and it was DEFINITELY a "best of the rest" situation. Is this comment hateful? I haven't attacked her personally; everything refers to a situation she sought out voluntarily. And I'm sure people will reply "you couldn't do any better" No I can't. And I'm 100% certain they criticize people they couldn't outperform either. Everybody does that.

Great breakdown - Flipz showed the compassion of a a person who remembers where he came from…a noob; it’s where everyone starts in all aspects of life. I originally felt her moves were purposely chosen to mock the art of breaking. I’m glad I watched your videos before I commented on ANY videos bcuz I would’ve felt horrible to contribute to the negativity being thrown her way.
I for real thought she was a comedic interlude. Like a rodeo clown between events. Seriously. But then I realized no one was laughing in the crowd. She knew what she was doing. She planned it and executed the plan. How horrible to steal a once in a lifetime chance for someone who was a serious talent and woul not make a mockery on a global scale. The only thing, I feel, that she "tried hard" to do was ensure her free ride to Europe.
I thought she was a male competitor in the initial clips I saw. Not femininely dressed as a female breaker (not sexy, feminine). Had very strange facial expressions too.
I totally agree Spidey. I’m more upset about the system that allowed her to compete at the Olympics with her caliber. Only some blame should go to Raygun.
Spidey, thank you for doing this topic justice and for having Flipz on! I'm so tired of seeing so many people jump on the bashing bandwagon solely for clickbait and views, while they trash Breaking even though they don't know anything about it. You continue to operate your channel from a fair, unbiased and compassionate place, you do the research and make sure you speak only about what you know, refrain from comment of what you don't and avoid covering topics that are too divisive. I commend you for this and for not giving into sensationalism for likes and views. Bless your heart.
Hey Flipz, welcome! I love the way you guys compared breakdance with language, it made some things much clearer and obvious when you described the hows and the whys. My horizons are expanded! Thank you
Just wanna clarify something in case anyone wonders ... LA's decision to not include Breakdancing in Olympics 2028 happened well before Olympics 2024 in Paris, so Raygun's performance was not a contributer to that decision at the time that decision was made. That said, I can't imagine the burden of wondering how that performance will impact any discussions going forward.
As an Australian, I would say most of the people in this country are not upset with this grifters lack of talent but that by participating in this particular dance competition she has taken the opportunity from young Australians who actually seem to know what they’re doing when it comes to breakdancing . This self-important character has taken opportunities away from Indigenous youth who actually seem to know what they’re doing and have some talent for it.
Im glad my mind wasnt the only one who thought about the indigenous people getting their chance ripped from them by a whole heartedly under qualified breaker.
Raygun is the hater, instead of progressing break dancing in Australia she went to great lengths to manipulate the system so she could be the only one in her category to qualify for the Olympics and that is holding break dancing back in Australia and taking away opportunities from real talent. People don't know what break dancing is after seeing Raygun, they are confused.
Give it up to raygun for opening up the doors to people like me, halfass performances.. Dunning Kruger effect at its finest ✊ this is the start of something special 😅

Her dance wouldn’t have gone viral if it wasn’t so embarrassingly bad. She took the spot of a person who deserved to be there… probably someone who doesn’t have the privilege and connections she has….
Spidey you put into words exactly what was making me feel anger, *not hate* but anger, about this issue. That is, I can't make myself believe that Raygunn believes that she belonged at the Olympics. I feel like she was trolling everyone. Isn't she able to see what so many incredibly athletic and artistic breakers are doing and realize she isn't close to that level? If not, what cognitive glitch prevented her from doing so?
OR she is simply trolling for a paycheck. I heard that she is now a millionaire. Or soon to be, with of the notoriety which she has gained from this absolute spectacle.
There was hate there - I think the nation went to town on her the days after the event in social media. Hate, disgust, embarrassment - you name it. I know this because I was a hater for a god few days 😂
The people around her did her no favors in not telling her she not good but given her husband and coach is actually worse it's not surprising. I do sort of feel for her but one thing for certain she not accepting the reality that she terrible at it.

She should be ashamed and owes the other breaking contestants an apology. She didn't deserve a spot in the Olympics compared to others that were extremely qualified to be there. She's a bit delusional to think she was good enough to be in the Olympics.
The sad part is, there definitely are better female breakers in Australia. So my question is how were they overlooked or possibly excluded, especially from Oceania (Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Federated States Of Micronesia, Vanuatu, Samoa, Kiribati, Tonga, the Marshall Islands, Palau, Tuvalu, and Nauru)

Why is RayGun so surprised that everyone is LAUGHING at her? As a Ph. D. In this field she should know her performance was a total parody of break dancing! And if she does NOT know., she should be stripped of that doctorate in “ breaking culture “- totally incompetent
Thanks for bringing Ivan (Flipz) to the conversation!! It was refreshing to hear him discussing the technical part of the competition & giving grace to Raygun. He saw the opportunities on her & brought those up instead of all the flaws the world has pointed out. Really appreciate that from him. Certainly, she wasn't prepared for the Olympics & the Olympics wasn't prepared for breakdance. Sigh! Thanks for an awesome video.
💯 agree. This is full of knowledge and wisdom and insight. I’m 66 a white German Scott who was around when this dance started. It amazed me. Raygun should not have been allowed to compete. Maybe a judge? but even then it’s doubtful. Her performance was not world stage Olympic worthy. Apologies it’s simply the truth. I am so happy you posted this because it gives us like me perspective. I sure hope it continues as a sport in the Olympics. Please look past this bump in the road and make it a better sport. Thank you.
In her academic circle of university lecturers and students, she would be the most amazing dancer they've ever seen. These type of people who spend their entire lives at school, have no idea what's going on outside their bubbles.
I watched the whole video while cooking 😅 thank you for being my partner in the kitchen. I love the interview and the fact that none of you made fun of her. Very entertaining to watch ❤😊
The Australian Olympic committee should never have qualified her to compete. She was not up to Olympic standard. They are to blame for putting her in this situation, where she was NOT hated, but was mocked for her poor performance. She is using the wrong word when she says she was 'hated'. It is disgraceful that she was put in this situation. So damaging for any person's psyche.
Hey, where is her own personal culpability and responsibility in this? She is in the breakdancing community; she would have known the potential talent that could have presented from other countries to compete.
The issue I have, is she did interviews prior and after where it was VERY clear she knew she didn’t have the technical skill the others did. Like Spidey talked about in the first video….i don’t remember the 3 things, but there are basically 3 things they get judged on, and she literally admitted to not being strong in 2 of them. 🤦🏼♀️
Let me fix what you are saying. You didn't realise you could scam the Australian taxpayers and deny someone that has breakdancing skill the opportunity to compete in the Olympics. Now you are complaining your rubbish performance isn't thought of as okay.
She was fraudulently at the Olympics. Intentionally or not, clearly she wasn’t supposed to be there. Reality has caught up with her and she’s still not accepting it. Choices have consequences.
Easily the best dialog I’ve seen on this topic so far. I lappreciate your straightforward, balanced approach to the whole thing, & your guest’s (Flipz) input gave me a much better understanding of the particulars. Thanks for putting this together.
Great Video. I appreciate that you understood, and even more so your guest, critiqued instead of mocked. It’s one thing to talk about the quality of someone’s performance, it’s another to go after them personally, especially when they have come out expressing the impact on them, their friends & family, and the community as a hole. To be honest, what I have seen be some people is horrible and mean - especially when many of them have never competed in any sport, at any level. It’s like children on a playground pointing and laughing at some who fell and hurt themselves. Importantly, the competitive breakers I have seen interviewed have showed compassion and sensitivity. That says a lot. Breakdancing is new to the olympics. There has been scandal after scandal when it comes to any sport that has subjectivity and artistic elements - just look and figure skating and gymnastics. Not every sport has a clear finish line. Finally, as a wider society, I think we have to ask ourselves why this situation has become so toxic and negative. There have been many athletes before that worked hard to represent their country at the Olympics and yet have not been at the level of the world’s best - and people have cheered, cried and supported their stores. That is what the Olympics are about.
The reason people hated Raygun's performance is that when they sit down to watch the Olympics they don't want to be watching X Factor. It's not "her" they hate; it's a corrupts system that let her through. She was just the only "face" for a reaction
I agree !! … l am an Aussie and the minute l saw her do that “ yawn “ … l thought oh no !! … she better be absolutely spectacular … unfortunately not !
I think you've misinterpreted that- it's a play off against her and the other dancer. In accordance with that culture which breakdancing comes from its " look what I can do" then the other feigns not being impressed and saying " you think THAT'S good, watch me". Sort of like boxers and wrestlers do pre match "dissing " one another and so on. It's very common in this area. Performative. Playing off and against the opponent. So she was doing the performance " culture" but she couldn't pull off the moves to " up" the other athlete😊
@@maryl8753 No it's definitely a statement saying you believe you have something way more impressive to offer. You got to deliver if you act cocky like that.
She knew that she was missing some of the important skills of a breaker, the very skills that would wow the audience. And yet she thought that her creativity was so outstanding that it could outweigh everything else. She thought that athleticism wasn't that important in a sporting event!? I would say that has nothing to do with "positivity"; it's just delusional.
What's sad about this whole thing is that someone else who worked their butt off for years lost their shot because someone else thought an 8 year thesis written by a woman break dancer "deserved" her shot. Shame on whoever made that decision!

That's why there's jokes like: "Everybody's so creative."
The interviewee should not be wasting his compassion on her.
I agree completely. Her smugness (which I guess could be self delusion to protect her ego) is what bothered me the most.
Her complete lack of self awareness is quite frankly unbelievable, but that in itself speaks volumes. She is so narcissistic that it is quite possible that she totally unaware that what she has done is absolutely disgraceful.
AGREED
💯 What an embarrassing time we are living in.
Her lack of empathy for professional breakdancers and the other Olympic chosen being overshadowed by her is noted.
@@Jamstaro1 Because she is tanking other people with her horrid scam. That is why we need to put more effort into getting to the bottom of this mess.

@@bboyfocus12 that's true. People who take this stuff into real life are crazy.
Agree!
I was looking for a comment about this and was about to write the same 💯

Have you not seen the Olympics? It always has several 'athletes' that should not be there and fail utterly miserably. More famous ones would be Erik the Eal and Eddie the Eagle
that's not her fault. That's the judges. Would you really say no at an opportunity of being in the olympics? I mean if you're scared or a lazybum, then probably but I wouldn't. I would try and that would be up to the judges.
@@pamelamcfadden337 That’s it in a nutshell. You said it perfectly in one sentence!

I also saw a video that showed she stole the entire routine from another breakdancer 😂😢 just sad
I think she's a manipulator and an imposter. The question that needs to be answered is if she got in through fraud or gross incompetence. I do not have sympathy for someone that achieves their position without merit.
There does seem to be something going on as to how she got chosen to compete in the Olympics
She was awful. Period.
Definitely something ‘off’ about her demeanour. You’re right - she gives off that vibe that something isn’t quite right about her.

For sure she knew she wasn't at the same level. She has competed at world championships and last year was ranked 64/80. She can't do power moves so I am confused as to how she qualified when she can't meet one of the 5 judged criteria.
Sure I would buy something if it has her endorsement…Not
I think Spidey was right about the point > She overestimated the importance of creativity, and thought it would make up for a lack of athleticism.
But as far as the jury during the qualification is concerned, that is not enough of an explanation for me.
There is more to it than that. Maybe the jury members knew her name and who she was in academia, and were more likely to vote for people they knew!?

There are major kinks in the chain for someone with Raygun's skills to be on the Australian Olympic team.
She is the embodiment of "academic exceptionalism"... and I mean that in the most derogatory way.
When the dream world meets the real world
She grew up in the “Barney the Dinosaur” era. Everyone gets an award 😅
She took a spot that she did not deserve from a competitor that also ‘trained their butt off’!
Shes not a victim of hate, she just sucked bro! 🤔🫶🏽🍻
😂 Simple as that.
🤣🤣 That's all ... With love
but that's kinda the same logic as "it's not cruel if it's the truth"...
I still think she did this for laughs.
@@peixa79 💯
And now breakdancing is out of the Olympics. So she actually ruined it for a lot of other people
Hence the "preplanned downtime"
I thought she was a male competitor in the initial clips I saw. Not femininely dressed as a female breaker (not sexy, feminine). Had very strange facial expressions too.
I totally agree Spidey. I’m more upset about the system that allowed her to compete at the Olympics with her caliber. Only some blame should go to Raygun.
She is the system, thats part of the problem.
I asked this question, bc I was pretty sure breaking was canceled before... not bc of her.
She's not special, and certainly not special enough to cancel an Olympic event over.
Yes and also to those who let her through
Raygun is the hater, instead of progressing break dancing in Australia she went to great lengths to manipulate the system so she could be the only one in her category to qualify for the Olympics and that is holding break dancing back in Australia and taking away opportunities from real talent. People don't know what break dancing is after seeing Raygun, they are confused.
You are giving her too much credit. She is just delulu.
Give it up to raygun for opening up the doors to people like me, halfass performances.. Dunning Kruger effect at its finest ✊ this is the start of something special 😅
Every Google result is telling me you're completely wrong, and it doesn't even look controversial.
So please elaborate on how she went to great lengths to manipulate the system.
Uh how did she manipulate the system?
@@Hyst3ricalCha0s She is good mates with the AOC after the fact Anna Meares said "I love Rachel" and demanded everyone else be censored even going as far as removing a petition with over 50 000 signatures and today it would be over quadruple that, it simply called for an investigation into finances. Looks like they got something to hide. Transparency is everything.
Ivan is such a great guy. A very good representative for the breaking community. He’s very generous and kind in his comments and his vision for the future of breaking makes me excited for what’s to come. 👍❤️❤️ I’m a retired lady and not even a follower of breaking.
It's not "hate" just because she doesnt like it. She is playing the victim.
OR y'all blaming the victim.
Yes someone stating dislike of her performance is fair game. But I bet there was a lot of threats and name calling and that is unfair.
@@7clippers1 She did way side a lot of people though. Particularly her fellow Aussies.
The people around her did her no favors in not telling her she not good but given her husband and coach is actually worse it's not surprising. I do sort of feel for her but one thing for certain she not accepting the reality that she terrible at it.
The people around her are close friends. All other bgirls had no chance in the competition. Her friends put her through.
Her husband was the "judge" for many of the lower level breaking competitions where she participated. Guess who won those lower level comps? Raygun.
Because if he is her coach and she's not going with the national coach, he gets his trip paid for, too. See how that works?
She is na adult and it is her resposibility, no matter what people around her say. And its not the performance that was the worst. The worst was her attitude, insulting the intelligence of the whole world.
@@DanaNovak I don't think its so much a performance as lack of emotional understanding. Some serial killers could blend in well and mimic emotions they don't really have.
She just patriots back what she thinks you expect but missing the mark by a mile.
She is of course trying to be deceiving but its more insulting because she so bad at it.
It gives the impression she thinks everyone's a total idiot (which she may think) when she actually trying to be convincing.
Basically Amber heard level acting with even less emotional understanding
Thank you Spidey, I'm glad you had Mr Velez in your channel to shed more light into this situation. You were both very good at explaining the behavioral part about this and about the scoring system in breakdancing.
Your always turning up ur videos to really understand inside and outside of any conversation. The body language was amazing but also teaching us who aren't well aware of this sport. About what it is to do breaking at an Olympics level with Fliz was outstanding. Proud Bx girl here 💪🏻❤ thank you again Spidey 🙏🏻
She should be ashamed and owes the other breaking contestants an apology. She didn't deserve a spot in the Olympics compared to others that were extremely qualified to be there. She's a bit delusional to think she was good enough to be in the Olympics.
Yes, I wonder how the world would have reacted if she apologised and admitted she wasn't up to standard.
@@kiwiyogi2846quite differently likely. But since she's doubling down, this will continue to play out for a while
The sad part is, there definitely are better female breakers in Australia.
What shocked me is that she actually has supporters
She must have....she made it this far in life without hearing the word no
I would support her if I knew her. We extend more grace to people we like. I wish she would handle this better. Playing victim is only going to anger the trolls. 😂
I readily admit to being a supporter. She is a hornsby girl. She has a sense of fun. She is a Macquarie graduate and most likely a great communicator.

@@justmoon9798 yep an optimist dont like this ladys life being upset by people who dont know her. I find the haters to be very antisocial and often ill informed about situations.
Ive seen people make fun of her and people comment on how she took the spot of a more deserving dancer but I have never seen any outright hate, I wonder what she specifically experienced
Quite possibly nothing, she could be making it up just to continue to play the victim
Probably sees that as hate 😂
@@socratese5 My guess is she specifically experienced a dose of reality. 😂
UA-cam, DON'T even dare to take this video down agian!
seriously! LOL. what a nightmare!
Thank you.
Right?! But they will leave up all those transparent try on vids and people actually dying on their platform. What a bunch of hypocrites!!
👏 👏
Don't tell me Australia didn't have more qualified dancers. So unfair to prevent someone with talent from getting a chance to compete.
If someone entered the 100 meters and it took them over a minute you'd wonder why they entered the race and how did they qualify.

Her (Raygun) and her husband created the Australia breakdancing committee
Sie organised the commune, she put herself in.
Raygunn is a full-grown adult and responsible for at least 50% of the problem.
Agree!~
She was fraudulently at the Olympics. Intentionally or not, clearly she wasn’t supposed to be there. Reality has caught up with her and she’s still not accepting it. Choices have consequences.
Easily the best dialog I’ve seen on this topic so far. I lappreciate your straightforward, balanced approach to the whole thing, & your guest’s (Flipz) input gave me a much better understanding of the particulars. Thanks for putting this together.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Great Video.
People are bashing her because of her attitude on stage. She thought she was so good. She even yawned at one point.
