Steelheart 'I'll Never Let You Go' Rockin song, massive vocals!
I absolutely love Slaughter. Grew up listening to them and still wish I could hear them now. I was a preteen when they first came out. Miss them so so much.
Slaughter was a hair metal band and this song is what is considered a power ballad.
The drummer and that kit is where it's at
Mark Slaughter is a hella talented dude. I got to meet and hang with him starting about 10 or 11 years ago.
This song is autobiographical. It is a bout a girl that he and his friends grew up with in Vegas. He had been on tour and was scheduled to come and hang with his Vegas friends but the timing worked out to where they ended up reuniting for her funeral. She got killed in an auto crash just days before.
He still tours on occasion, writes, produces, voice talent work for animated show and movies and a bunch of other stuff.
I stopped getting hung up on genre labels. They never end. Someone is always adding something to something requiring a new label and after a while nobody gets most of the labels right any way. It limits the artist and limits the listener when we label stuff. How many songs do we end up liking that we didn't give a chance the first few times around because we labeled it as something we didn't like? It's the same when we label people. We really do need to stop labeling as much as we do.
Besides all music will eventually cross over in every other other genre, just to do it.
When it come to labeling, I keep music genres as general as possible. I'll get people to the soda machine but they got to press the buttons and decide what flavor it is and if they like it.
To me, music is music.

I agree that labels suck, and glam was never my thing(except in ,7th grade when I bought motley Crue's too fast for love, and later shout at the devil.. lol) I just dug the riffs. The image didn't concern me,to each his own.At the same time I had old clash, descendants, a variety of punk and metal. My iron maiden albums were right next to my Crue's and my Steve Miller's. My point is if ya like it, ya like it. Way too many good artists out there, why pigeonhole yourself? Thanks for listening..
Lol
Actually, "Fly To The Angels" was dedicated to Amelia Earhart.
Exactly, music is...music.
I love your take on it. Very well said.
Visually the drummer is one of the best period!
Dude! If you’ve ever lost someone really close to you you’d appreciate this song!
Hair metal is a subgenre of heavy metal that features pop-influenced hooks and guitar riffs, upbeat rock anthems, and slow power ballads
Love to Hoosier Daddy! Thanks for suggesting this one!! Slaughter was badass! This was more of a Ballad. 80s was a Big time for Ballads ( love songs)
Morningglory Vine Thank you doll. 💝😘
Morningglory Vine they played in Marathon Florida earlier this year. I have video of him standing next to me in the crowd singing. Was a great show
Larry Mcbroom Very cool. Do you have the vid on your yt channel???
No sir I sure don't. I've never uploaded a video to UA-cam.im just one of those people who scroll through and watch kids that look interesting. Lol
Larry Mcbroom Cool. I totally understand. 👍✌👍🎸🎵🎼🎵🎸
The song is written about a high school classmate of his who passed. I saw him in Las Vegas, his hometown. The words are pretty powerful
Lived up the street from me in Henderson. Used to always see him at IHOP. 😂
Wow, I would never in a million years even thought to suggest this one to you, but I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say about it. Regardless of how you feel, this was a good power ballad jam back when it came out.
Hair metal is a 80's radio friendly genre that generally sounds like this and bands like Motley Crew, Bon Jovi, Ratt, Warrant, Dokken, Poison etc.
nespith Great explination. However, I would point out that it wasn't really radio friendly until the 80s and record companies did their best to kill it off initially.
Whitesnake adopted the image in the last half of the 80's to cash in. IMO, they were the best of the bunch with Dokken and Ratt close behind. They had the best guitarists. :)
This
Motley Crue
A good description. This genre was also referred to as glam metal or lipstick metal (as band members would wear makeup). In addition, the hair metal genre put out the "monster ballads." This a great example of a monster ballad. Those of us around from the 80s know those songs well. So many great monster ballads from that time: Wanted dead or alive, Every rose has its thorn, ballad of Jayne, too many to list here
My favorite song!! ❤️❤️🤘🏻😎🤘🏻❤️❤️
love your Breakfast Club shirt!!
Love this
I graduated high school in 1985. Hair Metal refers more to a time period than a sound or look.
Seeing this song was a surprise.... I vaguely remember it coming out, but man Slaughter is like a hair metal deep cut dude...
It is like a farewell or tribute song to a loved one or friend who passed away. This is metel - just like how there are rock and soft rock. This is when rock bands did ballads in the 90s. And fans loved it and was popular so alot of bands did it
Vixen - how much love
I’m 49. 80’s was my jam. You got soft rock, rock , hard rock., which is basically metal. Then death and gore metal, which is that screaming shit they call metal today. Some is great, some sucks.
We're the same age.
"Fly to the Angels, Heaven awaits your heart and flowers bloom in your name"....beautiful lyrics
Grew up with the 8os hair bands. They all had great power ballads...take a listen to Skid Row I remember you, Poison Every rose has it thorn, Cinderella Don't know what you got...these are just a few of many, many hair band's and there amazing ballads. Some of the best ballads are written by hair band's in the 80s
I'm a little surprised that none of the reaction channels (that I've seen, at least) have done Poison yet.
Wow haven't heard this in years! Wore the cassette AND the CD out (I'm old lol)
Of course it’s hair metal!! Lol my older sister loved hair bands from the 80’s-early 90’s! I hated this growing up but now in my 40’s…I love it!! My sister still does too lol
This vid I would say is Glam Rock post Motley Crew, my opinion of course.
Nah, Glam Rock was specifically metal bands who wore makeup to look like girls, i.e. Poison, Cinderella, etc.
That's a fair assessment
This is a hair metal BALLAD... much like Skid Row's "I Remember You", Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", Warrant's "Heaven", etc... The late 80's was RIFE with this style.
Alot of hair metal bands did ballads, there was a time when most bands did it. Cause fans loved it
What a voice on that man!
YES. THIS IS EPIC. ✌✌
Hair metal was a sound and look. It was also glam metal. Bon Jovi, imo, was one of the trailblazers of this genre. Hair metal was known for its power ballads. Metal is being used loosely here, :)
Gonna be honest subscribed as soon as I heard ozzy.
Power ballads take me back to my teenagehood!!
Alot of Metal bands did ballads - this is one of them. They have another hit - Up All Night. They have metal style songs and ballads.
I'm late to the chat, but from what I remember from the 80s, 😝 hair metal was a period of pretty boys, (And we loved them), & their style of metal. But these ballads really appealed to us girls and made them get much more air play. Many hair bands had heavier metal. I love this song. Just beautiful.
It's a look AND A SOUND. 😂😛✌
Dying laughing man. 23 million. That is a lot. 😂😛✌✌
Power Ballad❤
Most of the guys here hating on this music didnt grow up in the 80s. It’s a generational thing
If you want a Slaughter Jam and don’t want the usual “Up all night” (which is great) Check out Mad About You. That’s the Jam
Skid Row Youth Gone Wild
This is a classic monster ballad.
Great song
This is one of their ballads. Their more heavier stuff is like Up All Night. Either way, they were my favorite growing up.
That was a power ballad!
Fates Warning Valley of the Dolls live in Germany, spot on progressive metal. I think you will like it my friend. Love your reactions.
Good choice
Hair Metal - pop music with fuzzy distorted guitar and heavy drum sound
I was 17 when this song came out and it was popular enough that my friends and I learned how to play it in our garage band but no one could sing it, lol.
I was 17 too! Hated hair bands! Loved rap back then, bass booming lowridin’ mini trucks lol but I love it now in my 40’s!!
Power Ballad; this is what hair bands are commonly known for.
There are "hair metal" songs that definitely fall into the more "metal" side of things, it's just that power ballads were extremely popular for those bands to have, and this is a power ballad.
It’s all about the hair. With that said the sound normally is more Rock then the Trash you get from Metal. Hair Metal will normally be about Love, Sex or Heartbreak. One thing I know the atmosphere of these concerts compared to any other Rock and/or Metal genre was vastly different. Plus the Female to Male ratio was much greater. Metallica is a concert you go with your friends and have fun. Hair Metal was where you took your girl or you went to find one.
Before Mark slaughter formed this band he was in Vinnie Vincent invasion. Two songs on this album are diss tracks to Vinnie Vincent. Those two songs are "stick it to ya" and "burning Bridges"
Hair metal is both a look AND a sound.
I liked this song in high school. Yeah, I'm that old. Hair bands are a term for 1980's "pop metal" bands or as I call it, metal light. The singers & band members were all known for their skin tight jeans or spandex pants & long flowing locks or over-teased hair, hence the term "hair bands". The typical hair band's music was harder than pop (top 40) music, very radio-friendly, but definitely not heavy metal (like Black Sabbath). Most of the hair bands had the iconic 80's "power ballad" & this was Slaughter's. Hair bands were definitely formulated much like the boy bands. Love them or hate them, these bands were not short on talented artists.
Hair metal is the more pretty boy corporate commercial top 40 friendly end of the scale metal. With the lighter waving ballads. That said the bands were often party animals. Bands in this genre would be poison Bon Jovi Motley Crue Quiet Riot White Lion Warrant, early Skidrow Ratt Cinderella, most of these bands had much harder cuts as well the poppier stuff.
Mark sang with Vinnie Vincent Invasion, he is a great singer. Check out "Love Kills" from VV.
Hair Metal could refer to anyone from Slaughter to Slayer. However, Hair Metal groups are often called “Hair Bands” that write basically pop Metal songs and have an Emphasis on Rock Ballads. I often think this gentleman singing is underrated, I think He was the third best “Hair Metal “ singer behind Sebastian Bach(Skid Row) and Axl Rose(Guns N’ Roses) You might like Skid Row, “I Remember You” and/or “18 And Life.” The vocals are incredible.
The song is a Metal Ballad
when Vinnie Vincent left KISS he recruited some great musicians and formed Vinnie Vincent Invasion. After a while and due to Vincent being a massive tool who was so far up his own arse he could kiss his back teeth he was fired from his own band. the band recruited Mark Slaughter and changed their name to Slaughter. Their song 'burning bridges' is about Vincent.
they were, in my opinion, one of the better radio friendly, corporate rock bands of the late 80s. marks voice is amazing. This song is a ballad that literally EVERY rock album had to have to try for a hit record, it was all pretty much a record label formula to make money by this time. Slaughter were just a great rock band
you should listen to Jake E Lees band 'Badlands' for an example of a more 'bluesy' type of 80s rock.
Hair metal is a modern, catch all term for any band with long hair in the 80s . it's meaningless
Badlands was great!
dogstar75 Totally agree.
yessss Badlands
You're partly right.
Mark Slaughter was the vocalist on the second Vinnie Vincent Invasion album. Prior to the band reforming without Vinnie Vincent, as Slaughter. So Mark was a band member BEFORE the name change.
Oh, shit! Didn't they do a song for one of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies?
There is hair metal, hair rock, and hair bands. This is hair rock, Hair metal bands are Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeath Pantera, while hair rock is Motley Crue Scorpions, Slaughter and Skid Row and hair Rock bands are Poison and Bon Jovi
hahaha Slaughter. OMFG. I had their cassette because of the Up All Night single. Yeah I was about 14 leave me alone lolz
Slaughter is definitely hair metal, but I would consider this song a ballad. Glad to see someone recommend this genre as I think it contained some great music. Dokken is my personal favorite hair metal band. Great vocals and George Lynch is a great guitar player. Thanks for the genuine reactions!
I've always known these 80s groups as Hair Bands. They play Glam metal. Far cry from plain metal
This song is two fold....it was written about his sister who was killed in a car accident but the visuals were designed for Amelia Earhart, the famous female aviator.
This is hair metal that relied upon Ballard’s
These Is A Ballad A Lot's Of Hair Metal Band's Did Ballad To Like Motley Crue,Poison,Bon Jovi,Europe,Etc.
Thus is more of a ballad within the genre of hair metal, which was pretty much what metal became in the late 80s, when metal bands sold out to the industry, and all but killed metal. That's not to say that all the music was bad, but most if them pandered to a pop audience, which filled their pockets with cash, but alienated the metal audience. As ballads go, this was one of the best, IMO.
80's hair band helium vocals! Check Steelheart "Angel Eyes"
Actually the title is I'll Never Let You Goooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!🎤🎵
Hair metal! Like Lemmy Kilminster from Motörhead said: "When hair metal came, I didn't know If I should beat'em up or fuk'em!" ..paraphrasing here..
ricolync wow
That's actually funny.
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
If I'm not mistaken Mark wrote this song about a female friend of his who died.
Here's the thing. It was a big deal for all of the Hair Metal bands to have at least one or two ballads. That was just the way it was. Slaughter can rock out; but this song.... this song became something special for them, and is one of their most successful songs....and it was a ballad. I think that's your confusion.
You would have to hear other songs from Slaughter to know that thet are, indeed, metal!
Not meaning to be rude, but it is spelled Slaughter.
Hard rock/Hair Metal bands in the 80s/90s often had Power Ballads in their repertoire to get more airtime on radio and MTV.
Bulwark AC it rude at all thanks I’ll try and fix later I appreciate the help peace ✌️
Rap Rat Trapped He's absolutely correct. Record companies pushed for these types of songs, but a band like slaughter is still metal, or hair metal, or sometimes glam which is another term for hair metal. People like titles. I always just called it rock or just metal.
Hair metal bands were crossbreeds between pop and metal. There was a ton of them in the 80’s and early 90”s especially. Poison, Cinderella, Warrant, Winger, LAGuns, Tesla, Whitesnake, and Firehouse are a few more examples. And they all were and had softer music.
Hair metal is what they called alot of 80's Hard Rock bands. Pretty boys that appealed to groupies and made Rock or Power Ballads. If that makes sense. Poison, Warrant, Firehouse, Cinderella to name a few. They were softer but still produced some good music.
Fair question about hair metal, it's a Bon Jovi Poppy metal.
In This Moment - Big Bad Wolf
Hair Metal, Glam Rock, Hair Rock. It's a sound. Most bands in this genre will have some heavier hitting songs in their catalog, but it was very popular for rock bands, even the heaviest of them, to make one or two ballads ... Everybody did. Motley Crue, Poison, Cinderella, Ratt, and so on. All of these bands would fit the Glam Rock / Glam Metal sound, with Motley Crue being the ones with the heaviest sounds.
Loudness - Crazy Nights. Some japanese hair metal from the 80s.
Love me some 80's hard rock!!!! Those who love the same thing can always find themselves at the M3 Rock Festival every year in Columbia, MD!!!!!
If you want a blues based hair metal tune, I suggest Come Along by the Salty Dog.
Hair Metal is equally looks and sound... but diet metal is a very fitting description xD
From the UA-cam suggestions - LA Guns, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi are definitely similar style wise. Hair metal's both a sound, and a look. Between 8-13 or 14, this kinda stuff was my jam. Poison, Warrant, Slaughter, Trixter, Bon Jovi, Skid Row(though they were more actual metal than the others), Twisted Sister(they were a bit heavier too). Diet metal is a good way to describe it. It's poppier, more accessible. And most of the guys in the bands were fairly good looking, so the fan base tilted more women than men. Slaughter's other big song, Up All Night, is closer to their over all sound, if I remember right. Since you dig Pantera, you should check out a song from before Phil joined the band. They were more influenced by Van Halen, Kiss, and early Def Leppard, than the sound they're actually known for.
Mark Slaughter was amazing thanks for doing this the live version is even better Rock On Brotha
Try Blue October! “Hate me today” You won’t be disappointed!
Slaughter is actually the lead singer's last name.
im not trying to be smart or anything i guess i am different i don't care what a song is labeled or categorized all i care about is if i like it or not. i guess i think different because i come from a different generation ( im 73 ) and have listened to and loved all genres of music since i started out watching American Bandstand in the mid 50s especially metal and hard rock. but i do believe in your right to have your opinions too. love man.💚🍺 ps i still love your passion though for music.
"Stars"by Hear n' Aid...gotta react to this one man...Dio, Halford, Tate, and so may other singers...Also the guitarists on the song are some of the best in metal/hard rock. Got to be the vid with the artists names so you can check out their individual work and bands they were/are in...you will not be disappointed ...hope the new camera is gonna work great for ya.
aww man you have to do Mr. Big now
All hair metal bands back in the 1980s did a thing called power ballads that’s what you’re listening to
I always liked this song and this band. I remember when they first came on the scene. Critics say that they were an MTv construction and were not deserving of their popularity or success. I look at them like I look like Vanilla Ice. They were musicians trying to get out there and played the part they were given.
Should do some Skid Row,Dokken,Poison,White Lion,Twisted Sister some good hair/Glam Metal bands
Good review your right on spot with your opinion. They called this stuff metal back in the 80s but it was really more rock. The 80s music really did get polluted back in the day with a bunch of sound alike bands that put out 2 or 3 albums. The girls loved this stuff vs the harder metal bands, but it was a fun time and both styles had there place at the time.
Hair metal is a sound and look. Also referred to be cock rock.
Alex Rud 😲
Hair Rick? How about Glam Rock: Roxy Music, Mott the Hoople, T-Rex, Twisted Sister, New York Dolls, Slade, And David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust. Guess you could put Alice Cooper and Kiss in this group too.
Say what you will about their looks or the entire hair rock genre....it doesnt take away that Mark Slaughter had a major set of pipes on him.
Try Bulletboys- Smooth Up In Ya, definitely rocks more than the slaughter song. They also do a cover of For the Love of Money
Felix .. Please more Steel Panther. I laughed so hard watching you watch them. God my stomach hurt I laughed so hard. 😂😛😂😛😂✌✌✌😂😛😂✌
Lead singer is so damn sexy! He sounds awesome live too!!
The Rock group Yes and their song "Starship Trooper" would be a good song to review
