2024 and this song is still 1000 times better than 95% of the music produced today. Minimal instruments, no autotune, excellent vocals, and unique haunting sound make it a magical song.
Im also 16 and i have Autism/Asperger and i do the same as you. Del Shannon is probably my favourite, But i also listen to other related artists. I feel different because of what i listening to, But im also proud of it and i have been listening to older music my whole life, Before i listened to David Bowie and Elton John but just because i not listening to them in the same way anymore it doesn't mean i don,t like them anymore. In the end of the last year and earlier this year i learned to play Tie a yellow ribbon round the ole oak tree by Tony Orlando and dawn written by L. Russel Brown and Irwin Levine on Piano because that is the instrument i can play pretty good and i also can Runaway and other stuff from artists i explored, i have heard Tie a yellow ribbon since i was younger. I explored pianist Floyd Cramer trough that song and then i explored more and more because it was my brother who thaught me about Del Shannon, Ricky Nelson, Marty Robbins and so on. Then i explored Carl perkins and Glen Campbell and so on. So Del Shannon is my favourite and will probably be for a long time forward, Rest in Piece.
Yep, also listening in 2020, just that I discovered Del Shannon in 1974 when I was in High School. He appeared one night on the Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack. You all need to look out for a new CD that's been released recently on Del Shannon. In 1977 he recorded some songs in Dublin, Ireland where the tapes were thought to be lost. The tapes were found and now a CD is being put out. The CD is entitled the Dublin sessions. It's worth looking into. Anything that Del Shannon has recorded is worth listening to.
Still listening in 2/15/21 because Del Shannon will always be the best. I've heard the song before the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. But I didn't notice Del Shannon until he appeared on the Midnight Special. In 1974 I was in High School and been listening since. That's when he appeared wearing a Cowboy Hat singing Runaway and Hats Off To Larry. I'm 65 Yrs old.
I'm 18 years old. I love to watch movie 1960 - 1990. There are many masterpiece movie such as Clint Eastwood's movies, Shawshank, Forest Gump, Terminator 1 - 2, Alien, Planet of the Ape, Predator, and more!!!. ❤❤❤
" Millner's 32 ford coupe". The fastest car in the valley! I lived those days when we all cruised in our Hot rods, and listened to " Wolfman Jack". Greatest time growing up in American History.
I'm so glad i finally found this! My dad used to love this song. He passed away when i was 13, and i never got to ask him the name of all those old songs he listened to. This brings me such good memories. Thanks for uploading...
+Jacobo Jardón Jacobo - sorry for your loss. This is a great recording. Del mixed in some Spanish chord changes in the Introduction and the Interlude with Apple Pie American music. This made this tune different than any other at its time. .
The best version, my father played this on the cassette radio everytime we're going back to granny's on 90's, good old song. How time flies. They're not making this kind of music anymore.
This song, Be my Baby by the Ronettes, Quarter to Three by Gary US Bonds, Come Go with Me by the Del Vikings (1st integrated group in Rock and Roll), Run Around Sue by Dion and Don't Worry Baby by the Boys in my humble opinion the 6 greatest Rock songs. You wore out your 45 record needle obsessively playing them hundreds of times. I can't imagine what my life would have been like without them and the Beatles.
I have a nice memory about this song, when many years ago my dad rented a movie: "Eddie and the cruisers", and my older brother played it and played it... Now, I just loved it!
Runaway Del Shannon As I walk along, I wonder A-what went wrong with our love A love that was so strong And as I still walk on, I think of The things we've done together While our hearts were young I'm a-walkin' in the rain Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain Wishin' you were here by me To end this misery I wonder I wah-wah-wah-wah-wonder Why Why, why, why, why, why She ran away And I wonder Where she will stay My little runaway A-run, run, run, run, runaway I'm a-walkin' in the rain Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain Wishin' you were here by me To end this misery And I wonder I wah-wah-wah-wah-wonder Why Why, why, why, why, why She ran away And I wonder Where she will stay My little runaway A-run, run, run, run, runaway A-run, run, run, run, runaway A-run, run, run, run, runaway Writer(s): Max Crook, Del Shannon
Thanks for sharing the lyrics to this wonderful masterpiece because it's more than a song. These words are soo profound that you start wondering how did she ran away. Wonderful song in a poetic fashion and wonderful music. Thanks, for providing the words to this wonderful song...Keep Rockin!!!
Hey 2020! Best sound quality of this recording right here folks! & Runaway! that cool song with the invented sound by keyboardist Max Crook, who played the "Musitron" (his own invention, an early synthesizer) which caught many listeners attention when it blasted the air waves way back in 61. I know, I was there! & it was cool then & now!
Pure Rock & Roll .... if I could make a wish I would live in those years ... it was all more real alive ... now there is no longer any human contact with these phones, technological development is fine but not to the detriment of human relationships ... wars? I did the Gulf War in Afghanistan ... Vietnman risk wouldn't scare me ... like the Big Wensdey period being a surfer ... I repeat it was all more human but it's just my thought and my latent dream ...
I love this song and...knowing he committed suicide it hits home and breaks my heart. His wife attempted a lawsuit against the drug company the manufacturer of Prozac but she withdrew it. Facts are every drug has side effects so... no one is going to take responsibility. So very sad a talented, gifted young singer gone, but thanks for your site...

Runaway Del Shannon
As I walk along, I wonder
A-what went wrong with our love
A love that was so strong
And as I still walk on, I think of
The things we've done together
While our hearts were young
I'm a-walkin' in the rain
Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain
Wishin' you were here by me
To end this misery
I wonder
I wah-wah-wah-wah-wonder
Why
Why, why, why, why, why
She ran away
And I wonder
Where she will stay
My little runaway
A-run, run, run, run, runaway
I'm a-walkin' in the rain
Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain
Wishin' you were here by me
To end this misery
And I wonder
I wah-wah-wah-wah-wonder
Why
Why, why, why, why, why
She ran away
And I wonder
Where she will stay
My little runaway
A-run, run, run, run, runaway
A-run, run, run, run, runaway
A-run, run, run, run, runaway Writer(s): Max Crook, Del Shannon
