Guys I stupidly made the decision to do softball in high school cause they need players. I’m hating it, I can’t back out pls pray that I do better and don’t look so dumb! Since I don’t play travel
yeli awesome! I quit after that year but I loved it and I was even awarded the Coaches’ Award! I almost got pulled up for varsity for the championship game as well
Good tip for new batters: keep your eye on the ball *as long as you can.* When you are focused, the ball seems to move in slow motion. Let the ball come to you, and when you swing, make sure you are STILL looking at that ball. Do not look at first base. Look at how/where you're hitting that ball.
Thanks for the info! I'm trying out for my school's softball team, and forgot to study about how to play softball. But now this video checked everything I needed to know! Thank you! Wish me luck! x3
im trying out for my schools softball team too! I never played before so I'm kinda nervous but Im trying to practice as much as I can so ill be ready. Good luck bro

kJaxn Hope you made the team! No one from my grade made the team, witch isn't allowed at my school. It's getting figured out, but when it comes to the teacher who's the coach (my homeroom teacher, poor me) she gets away with ANYTHING.
ThatGirl KellyPlayz Damn thats too bad. I didnt make it either. 40 other people tried out and there were only 18 spots so yea. But im fine it gives me more time to focus on boxing. Try finding something else to do meanwhile or just train hard for next year!! God bless.
Hi Savannah, 1) You have to watch the ball the entire time. If you find the ball is coming too fast, try to find a spot in the outfield to look at, then alternate looking at that spot and the pitcher repeatedly up when the pitcher starts their delivery. This will help you track the ball better. 2) Make sure your bat is steady and not shaking while the pitch is coming. 3) For really fast pitchers I used to lower my bat a bit so that I could swing faster. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for the helpful information. I have played baseball/softball in America, however, I now live in the Philippines and play softball here. I have to say that the Filipino strike zone is very low and inconsistent. The lower strike zone is between the ankle an the knee. I am not tall (5'10"), but taller than the average Filipino. Maybe that is why the strike zone is so low. Maybe it will be a good idea for me to move my feet a little wider than my shoulders on the hit since I have to dig lower into the pitch. Regardless, your technique of keeping the bat close to the body and following through will help me a lot. Thank you!
This is really helpful. I have a tournament coming up and want to try my best since I'm going to be playing against other schools and thanks for the tips :D
@ Sarah, never hit with your elbows up. If u are right handed and your back elbow is up, most likely you would have to drop your elbow right before the ball comes. This will cause you to "pop up" or hit a "weak ground ball". Harli, you never want a large stride, this will cause u to swing under the ball, which will force u to "pop up" the ball. You want your legs to be shoulder width apart, slight bend if you're comfortable, with a short stride to the ball. This way you can hit any pitch.
yes you need to have your elbow up, to everyone asking. I played from 5-14 years old and I'm 17 and starting again but I need to get back into routine and I'm going back over everything. keeping my elbow up helps me with my aim and flexibility, but that's just me.
What about when the pitcher spins the ball and even gets a curve out of it? I can hit a ball lobbed over the plate but these guys are not making it easy. I usually end up hitting a ground ball over to the short stop. I can out run those old guys and get to first base sometimes but I know I can hit it to the outfield. This is my first year playing on an actual team and the spin just throws me a bit. In the end, I know the best advice will be just practice. But thanks in advance for any additional advice anyone can give me.
thank you..........................i learned more about in softball but i was worry about catching a ball i was so nervous of it you can tell e what i gonna do please help me.................. thank you very much
This should help me i've played for a while now and I'm pretty good I'm just now getting to highschool pitchers and they fast pitch so it's a little harder
Many major league baseball players actually roll the front foot over on the "finish" portion of the swing. Which goes to show you even they don't follow proper technique all the time.
You never bat with you elbow up!! I thought that my whole life but I learned it the right way as I hit it a lot farther. Also you are supposed to have you weight balanced in the middle, don't shift you weight in the back.
Practice practice practice. Even if its you just throwing against a brick wall. To throw and ground the ball out. Stay low... bend your knees and watch the ball all the way into your glove. Set achievable goals for yourself. In the end ... its all about have fun and trying your best. Always remember to keep your eyes on the ball at all times! Whether your batting catching or grounding a ball out. Your glove is your best friend... and is the one thing to protect you from the ball on the field. So dont be afraid of a ball coming fast, dont turn away or step back. Go to the ball. Time the hops, pitches and the drops of a popped up ball coming down. Be AGGRESSIVE AND JUST GO FOR IT⚾️. Be confident and remember you can do and be anything you want to be. 😊
Absolutely dead wrong. I am a private coach and for some unknown reason there are dopes out there who insist that a hitter must stay connected with the top hand. Incorrect. Releasing the top hand off the bat or keeping it connected is a personal choice decision and there is NO right or wrong. Proof? There are only 4 hitters in MLB history with 600 HR's and 3,000 hits. 3 of the 4 released their top hand-Mays, Pujols, ARod (Aaron did not). Bregman and Donaldson release their top hands today. In the 2008 AS Game HR derby, Josh Hamilton gave the greatest exhibition of hitting I have ever seen. He released his top hand. So did Stan Musial and Tony Gwynn. And on and on.
omg thank u hitting a ball is hard and I'm gonna tryout softball😄yay!

I just cant get contact with the ball
I have a softball game against the staff members / teachers. And this'll help me.
So if you use a overhand throw in a softball that's a penalty?
Al Hashim Caezar Nonok ur the definition of stupid
Do you mean pitch? Yes it’s illegal in the game of softball to pitch overhand
Thank u you helped me so much
i play softball at school, and the only thing im really any good at is hitting. i sure can hit...
You never bat with you elbow up!! I thought that my whole life but I learned it the right way as I hit it a lot farther. Also you are supposed to have you weight balanced in the middle, don't shift you weight in the back.
one of my high school coaches told me to extend my elbows and have them locked at contact and now im struggling to find my swing again.
2nd year on softball still not knowing Shit😭😭😭!! I have to learn

Every time I hit it it doesn't go far and my hands sting when I hit it
Don't let go! you will have less power if you let go!
she let go after she would have made contact with the ball lol. it's called followthrough. :)
