San Francisco 4K - Pacific Coast Highway - Scenic Drive

- Monday morning drive along the San Francisco section of the Pacific Coast Highway. Video starts in Downtown San Francisco, going south, to Santa Cruz. The Los Angeles portion of the PCH is more well known but the San Francisco sections, both north and south of the city, are just as beautiful!
Route: goo.gl/maps/G2... .
This route includes the following: SR 1 follows the west coast of the San Francisco Peninsula, passing by the marine mammal colonies at Año Nuevo State Park, and the historic Pigeon Point Lighthouse, before reaching Half Moon Bay. Between Half Moon Bay and Pacifica, the highway bypasses a treacherous stretch known as Devil's Slide via the Tom Lantos Tunnels.
The Pacific Coast Highway State (Route 1 or SR 1) is a major north-south state highway that runs along most of the Pacific coastline of the U.S. state of California. At a total of just over 656 miles (1,056 km), it is the longest state route in California. The highway is designated as an All-American Road. In addition to providing a scenic route to numerous attractions along the coast, the route also serves as a major thoroughfare in the Greater Los Angeles Area, the San Francisco Bay Area, and several other coastal urban areas.
SR 1 has several portions designated as either Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), Cabrillo Highway, Shoreline Highway, or Coast Highway. Its southern terminus is at Interstate 5 (I-5) near Dana Point in Orange County and its northern terminus is at U.S. Route 101 (US 101) near Leggett in Mendocino County. SR 1 also at times runs concurrently with US 101, most notably through a 54-mile (87 km) stretch in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, and across the Golden Gate Bridge.
SR 1 was built piecemeal in various stages, with the first section opening in the Big Sur region in the 1930s. However, portions of the route had several names and numbers over the years as more segments opened. It was not until the 1964 state highway renumbering that the entire route was officially designated as SR 1. Although SR 1 is a popular route for its scenic beauty, frequent landslides and erosion along the coast have caused several segments to be either closed for lengthy periods for repairs, or re-routed inland.

A few thoughts:
1) Miami and New York City coming soon! Trips to Europe and Asia are planned and ready, once things return to normal.
2) Remove distractions from your life. Start today. A distraction is "a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else." I am systematically removing distractions from my life. When you remove negative distractions, you can add positive habits.
3) "The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business." Get it for free on Audible! I recently read this book and recommend you read it! It ties into the concept of distractions, getting rid of negative habits and building new positive ones.
4) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by David Fincher. "For what it's worth: it's never too late to be whoever you want to be." Love this quote.
Can you also do Reno, Nevada? Nice video btw!
Thank you so much,i feel like crying everytime you post Bay area and monterey/santa cruz drives...i moved 6 years ago...it will always be my home
I admire your thoughts on life.Liked the choice of movies too.
Anyways, the roads are always open for fellows to drive to their desired destinations.
Thanks for posting the footage on your drives.
AWESOME ! I'd love to see vids of Monterey/Carmel-by-the-Sea, and also Santa Barbara and its surroundings. Thank you.
Sweet! When is the next 360° Video?
I made this trip with my sister in 1994. I lived there as a kid but moved to Iowa but went back almost every year to visit. She was killed on the 5 in August 1994 and I havent been back since. This trip has been in my dreams for nearly 27 years - never thinking I would see it again - so TYVM. You cannot possibly know how much I enjoyed it.
You drove right by my house on California St.. If I'd known you were going to pass by, I'd have stood at the window and waved! I haven't driven the coast highway for a few years ... it's time, again. Thanks.
Google global truth project and read 'The Present' for the truth about life/death explained simply. Everyone needs to read it asap b/c it can change the world.
You live in an expensive city and don't even enjoy it?

1:34:10 , I have never seen anything this calm, peaceful and beautiful. Americans/Californians be grateful for such a being a resident of such a beautiful place
The west coast is spectacular. Its one of the most scenic places I've ever been
Thank you for taking the time to Scenic Drive my Beautiful Hometown....San Francisco.
@For Truth - You're "entitled" to YOUR opinion, & I to mine.
i've been inside my house not touching my motorcycle in 110 days because if I catch the virus my mom wont make it.
Your videos keep me sane.
I’m sorry to hear that but definitely put your mother’s health first
I live in San Francisco and been to 40 states and their major metropolitan cities. San Francisco is hands down the most beautiful city I’ve been to. The hilly streets are the best for sure 😍😍😍😍😍
This remains of my all time favorite videos. I watch it periodically to remind myself of the drive from SF to Carmel which is when I am the happiest in life.
The Pacific Coast Highway has to be one of the finest drives in the world. Coming from the UK and getting to drive on a long, beautiful coastal road was just something I couldn't do back home. Actually just driving in northern California was just a thrill, and the route to Yosemite and beyond is just stunning.
SF is the city of my dreams. Thank you!
Have you ever visit?
You need a lot of money and a stable job
@For Truth wow youre so angry. ahahaha. Just enjoy the nice city and beautiful scenery, dont ruin it for everyone else with your negativity
follow your dreams. I live here. Everyone is going to tell you about the homeless but in reality as someone who has lived here for 21 years....it depends where you go. its a vibe...plus...its calm. and small
@@SophiaG1989 Hate how much outsiders think CA is a "shithole". There's a reason why it's so expensive here, especially the bay area.
I visited San Francisco for the first time, 2 weeks ago. Beautiful city and landscape despite the many homeless people scattered on the streets. Looking forward to going again. Next time I will visit LA, San Diego followed by Big Sur, San Jose, and Sacramento.
I wouldn’t visit San Jose if i were you
the way I live in SF and I rarely see homeless people......it depends where you go
Wow, love it. I live driving along the coast. It is always so beautiful!
watching video from Japan , I really enjoy like , as if I am driving by myself. great work.
especially the right-side driving is fresh to me.its left side in my country.
I love these real thing and I really like. I am looking forward not the famous place or not popular place but in terms of real life place.sorry english is my 2nd language.

Japan is so much better. I mean cities.

thank you sir. city is good. yes.
but I mean , I have seen videos about suburbs of USA. that is crazy great.
I have never seen those residential scene in my country. that was awesome.
American countryside , houses are great.
@@user-ou9ln4vl2n I'm from Ireland and I agree with you. Americans don't realise how good they have it. Big houses, big cars, big everything!
@@jamiebrowne5720 That's because it's a big country.
I used to lived bay area. Now I moved to Seattle. Beautiful 280. Whenever I miss SF, I will be here. Thanks.♥
Used to live there myself 2008-2018 (Seacliff) but SF just went downhill year over year. Moved out to Pleasanton, much happier here
I'm excited to replicate your route. I live in the Bay Area for 17 years and I just realized that I haven't explored the Bay Area that much. I utilize public transportation for the most part and I'm thrilled by this scenic drive.
How does the train run though the man road like that crazy I love all the mom and pop stores in San Francisco looks like a good place to live full House don't give it justice
Oh my god
Wow, I drove the 2019 route in the Camaro convertible, the grin comes to the face at the thought of it, and it just won't go away.... Thank you for the reminder!
I'm glad that you captured some of that infamous coastal fog.
Drove into SF on this route back in April 2003. Must do this again!
I grew up in the Bay lived on the coast been up and down the Pacific coast highway most of my life , Thanks for the wonderful memories!
It's nice .
I was born in SF in 1950. Lived on the Peninsula til my mid 20s when my family and I began an Eastern migration that led us to New Hampshire. Ive always loved San Francisco and would often drive up and just drive through the city much like this video. I'm only 18 minutes into it but I'm loving it. You drove right by the building where my grandparents and other relatives lived in the late 40s and 50s. It was so great to see that! I can't wait to continue watching!
Thanks for this.
1986 is the only time I have been to SF. I immediately remembered the Cliff House when you drove by, I was lucky enough to have dinner there.
I miss the Pacific Coast Highway! I drove there 3 years ago in summer and the scenery was fantastic!
I took my wife on a trip to California about 7years ago and we drove the pacific coast hi-way and visited many cites and towns like Oxnard, Ojai, Santa Barbara we had a wonderful time. She said it was a lot better than going on a cruise ship with a bunch of alcoholics and pushy people all butting in front of you to get their sixteen sausages at the breakfast bar. The cruise ship is for younger people who do not care about enjoying the quieter way of holiday life.
I guess we have matured a lot. In Oxnard we visited the DW Drum Company I didn’t even have a reservation for a tour but they allowed us in and gave us a private tour. I was so impressed with the theory of expect nothing in life and when I live by this my world opens wide and life gives us nuggets of unexpected memories and rewards.
Wow! Thanks for this. I rode PCH south and north loads of times on a BMW motorcycle back in the 80/90s. Brings back great memories. I'm sitting in Northern Vermont as I watch this and it's 10 below and blowing like crazy, Wish I were there, Haha.
Thank you! I stopped after 15 seconds. I can't watch the rest. It is one of my life goals to drive on the entire pacific coast from all the way up in WA to CA and I can't spoil it by watching someone else do it. Those 15 seconds got me all excited all over again.
Ive been in all most US cities, hot place 110f everyday, humid, cold freezing below zero, blizzard, hurricane, tornado, flood,
But San Francisco is special place.
I know every downtown sucks and dirty and lots of people but the weather is something like 58night to 75noon temp summer. 45 to 65winter, Not too hot and not too cold. I think thats what makes SF so expensive the good weather. U can ride the top of the tour bus all year long.👍
I live in San Francisco and I take that drive from San Francisco to Santa Cruz quite often. I guess I kind of don't realize how good we have it out here. Great job!
Thanks for sharing! California has a unique beauty for sure!
I lived at 45th and Taraval for 17 years and really miss the old neighborhood. It wasn't like a city, it's a community. I was there a couple of days ago and the construction (again, thanks to MUNI, again) really spoiled things, though not totally. Thanks for the vid, I'll bookmark it. I used to drive Hwy 1 on my BMW motorcycle every 2 weeks for 6 years to go to Monterey, and I just love riding a bike through that cool, salty Pacific fog. Karl really is a great neighbor!
what a beautiful city, I dream of living somewhere like this
Wow I like the Busses running on the overhead wire's
The way you did this, by not talking and making it the length you did , has really made it enjoyable. It feels like I'm on a trip, not watching a video, and I love to travel and see places that are new to me. Now if you'd just pull over somewhere so I can use the facilities, I'll be ready for another hundred miles before we stop for a nice meal. (HA) I'm in Missouri actually and love the video. Excellent job!!
I had been there it was very impressive and I wish to go back again if I do have change.
Thank you so much for this video! I went to UC Santa Cruz thirty years ago, and my friends and I made that drive between Santa Cruz and San Francisco many, many times. It's probably my favorite drive in the world. I'm so happy to see that it still looks the same as I remember it. 😊💖
I put a soundtrack in the background, Best Indie Folk of 2018 and traveled for over 2 hours to Santa Cruz, on a cold dawn in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil ... Excellent !!!
I've been away from home now for a couple years living in New York and Japan. It was nice to take a drive through .
From someone from a little town in the Netherlands this is just a dream just imagine sitting in that car making this beautiful trip, hopefully one day i will be sitting in that car!

You are such a thoughtful person for taking the time to shoot and upload this video and others.
I love your channel. Thank you!!
Sometimes I like to silent the video and pump up the volume on my Spotify playlist to make believe I'm driving to some good music and checking out what these cities have to offer. Thanks for your vids!
I was just thinking how cool it is that this video has no music.
2 years ago March I was on the PCH when it was raining sheets it was unbelievable in the early evening I couldn't see 50 feet this was much more enjoyable thank you very much
I love the high quality of all your videos!!!! Thank you for sharing!!!

I used to live in Daly City and always enjoyed going down the coast thru Pacifica. Thank you for the memories.
Very Beautiful. I am planning a trip to San Francisco next year. I will definitely drive around here. Thanks for the video.

You will regret coming to San Francisco Car Breakers here in broad daylight, illegal drug dealings is everywhere, homelessness encampment within the heart of the City Local officials ant police is doing nothing to stop this mess into this City. This is the Worst City to live for sure.
Dont listen to the doubters. Its still a great city to visit even with its own issues.
Always so interested to see the small differences in places, when on the surface countries can seem so similar. I think that's one reason why I enjoy these natural walking tours so much. Thanks for the insight I enjoyed the lovely walk albeit virtually.
Very beautiful driving btour.vthank you for good sharing dear friend 🌺🌺
l used to be in love for SAN FRANCISCO when l was very young... but l still love the city and mainly the ocean , (all around the planet.... ;)
Used to attend University of San Francisco, live in Honolulu most of my life, truly miss bay area, so much memories.

I always long for west coast!
from japan.
yes it is great. I really like it.
Is the Japanese east coast like this? Is a coastal drive from Tokyo like this?
This video is still great omg
I love this area at 26:30. The Cliff House and the Sutro Baths are great places to visit.
Excellent drive with both city and coast side. This was always a drive I took visitors on who couldn't believe how quickly the urban could be escaped. The San Mateo coast is one of the gems of the Bay Area known mostly by the locals. Thanks again for reminding me how beautiful it is.
Take Highway 1 all the way to Southern California from San Francisco - it’s a scenic drive with beautiful coastal towns along the way - a fantastic trip to remember!
such a beautiful city, I think it is the most beautiful city in the USA, it has a European style in the home fashion, and also it is very clean, I watched several video of this city, the streets are well finished, shame that there is nobody in the streets
"very clean" I'm sorry gamer...
im from the bay, sf is FAR from clean :( other than the outrageous cost of living, the poor cleanliness is sf's biggest con
It’s empty because of the pandemic.
the fact that it has a europen style is a negative not positive
us cities look far far bette than europen ones
1:34:06 thank you so much for stopping :)
Thank you for these videos, I'm Dutch but been to the US a bunch of times and I always love driving there. Especially the pacific coast highway.
A Glorious City!
Thank you for all these beautiful drives 😍😍
I like the road, my country or have road like this

VIEWING THE COAST HIGHWAY WAS GREAT.
Thanks drove it 20 yrs ago very relaxing and excited
When it comes to traffic, this is not the SF I remember from Jan 2019-June 2019. But one thing that is the same: 26 minutes from the Financial District to Ocean Beach(6 miles from the start, not the full 7)😀. Oh do I miss SF.
I was born in San Francisco, but I've never lived there. I was raised in Philadelphia all my life and never been in San Francisco since I was born there.
151:55, my favorite place in the world.
I took this drive about a month ago. I love the California Coast!

I like your video a lot because of the great quality and your car's road noise isn't obnoxious like some other drive cam channels.

Thank you so much! I miss all of the places that you showed. It’s so moving to watch it again, at these strange times.
I loved this. I used it to exercise on my indoor bicycle. I’ve lived in the Bay Area all my life so it was cool to “ride” by familiar sites.
Fabulous video of a journey we did a while back. Many many thanks. Rog brown. Pacific sunset erecords
Questa strada fa sognare, un viaggiatore...la costa del pacifico è surreale nella sua bellezza! E a dirlo è un amante della montagna e della neve, ma anche l' oceano ha il suo fascino! S. Francisco è super!

Hello There, I do find these drives so restful. I can quite see why babies sleep to car drives. The rolling scene is perfect to fall asleep to. Best of luck to you and your channel.
