I'd write a detailed summary on the gameplay and level design, but at this point I'm just mesmerized by the artstyle and the surreal aesthetic of it. Levels are beautifully detailed with lots of 3D effects, I didn't think a classic Sonic fangame would make my jaw drop but it can still happen.
As far as gameplay goes, you don't get the drop dash (which to me at this point is a force of habbit to expect it in a 2D Sonic fangame), but you still have the regular spindash and no roll lock. But the neat gameplay quirk is the chain link mechanic, it really incentivizes destroying enemies quick and especially multiple chained bounces, collected rings etc. And another unique quirk I didn't expect was the totem poles and pillar gimmicks, it's not much at first glance but the level design is built around this neat little quirk and gives Sonic Overture '95 its own identity.
It's just a really cool Sonic fangame and I hope the full version gets to see the light of the day.

Given that this game takes place before the events of Sonic 1, it only makes sense.
I’d recognize the Nights font anywhere. Love it for the combo system

Tbh this looks like some kind of dream world that sonics in, it feels very calm
I feel like the clinging/parkour mechanic might get intrusive/annoying in some places.
I think it'd be a good idea to have them work only when the player holds up or a specific button. That way, the player could choose whether to perch or not.
@@Tacoradical Maybe making it like in sonic riders when you take the speed type shortcut. You just have to press the jump button in the exact spot. It would be interesting if you could charge the jump button in the parkour spots when landing correctly and get an aerial speed boost, so there'll be a reward for using the mechanic.
Another solution would be allowing the player to keep their speed after jumping out

According to the trailer, it's Mach.
@@haonneogip4740”Feel” is the concept name for the rabbit that eventually became Ristar; “Mach” is actually the name of the rabbit from the cut Sonic 1 Sound Test band.
In older version of Overture, unused spritesheet of Mach was discovered, meaning that he will become playable as it was planned (in Overture he is supposed to be Sonic's rivial who then becomes his friend, just like Knuckles)

The rabbit’s official names were Reto and Max, but I like to call him Reto the rabbit.
I'm so happy to see this awesome fangame return after nearly a decade. I couldn't bear the thought of a fangame with such potential dying off like that...glad it's being remade, and with a more Saturn-inspired style to boot!
Man, I wish the Castlevania community had people as dedicated as the Sonic community. I'd love to just see dozens of Symphony of The Night style fangames with sprites and gameplay even better then the actual game(s) out there.
I love the little bit of Mable Zone music that's mixed into the Granite Zone tracks.

Woaaah! It's impressive. What a surprise at the end of the game!!! I love the design and the animation of the characters. I'd love to see a full game.
Kinda cool having Sonic perch and scout from the top of a structure. Nice nod to the OVA film. The soundtrack is really soothing and enjoyable to listen to. Granite Zone his really giving me Marble Zone vibes though, but I will say, the swinging spike balls from Marble Zone swinging in depth from background to foreground instead of the traditional side to side was a great touch of evolution. That 3D boss fight at the end was really cool, I wasn't expecting that.
These vibes that i could only describe as Europe-inspired/classical/circus-y/serif-y? (i really can't put it into words) are ones that were present in elements of early sonic games, but phased out over time. It's nice to see that atmosphere be abundantly present in this game.
It would be cool to see it on the sega Saturn!

It is really nice seeing this FanGame being back after so long! I've always loved the idea of it and the idea of exploring Christmas Island including even Max/Feels/Reto and Eggman's original design, and I like how the island and its zones looks
Exploring Christmas Island officially it's not a thing I think it's necessary and it's not one of the things I want to desperatly see, but I love it being the idea of this game

Looks pretty, but the music sounds too much like the SNES sound chip. It’s just too slow and low, IMO. What is the deal with the totem poles? Do you get points or something for landing on them?
The poles are pretty much just used to gain lots of height and to go fast.

Also a Mario paint like function to add custom stuff to creations, would've been cool if you could use songs you created in your levels.

The totem poles break the flow of the level but by the by this is a beautiful tribute to the series as a "what if" spinoff.

Stopping on every totem pole in that first level seems like it really messes with the flow. Was that as annoying as it looked when you played it?
Honestly, at certain points it got annoying. I think perching via holding up might fix this issue
This is amazing so far, but one mild criticism. The Granite Zone boss is a little too easy. I think Eggman should be firing at Sonic from the back end of that thing while the player also has to dodge some of those logs. Only with like a few shots at a time, though.

I really liked this fan game, it looks a lot like another fan game that I also really like called Sonic Legends
It's because Legends uses Overture's 1st stage (Sunrise Gate), Legends is supposed to be Mania of Sonic fangames and it will mostly re-use stages from obscure/popular fangames
