How open is the BAR community to people who are completely new to BAR? Like, Ive played TA, SupCom, SupComFA, and SupCom2, but I was never "good" at any of them and havent played BAR at all - my only experience has been LDM's vids. With all of that said, would I be trolled/hazed to oblivion if I tried to join up since the community is largely established at this point, or is the community somewhat understanding to newbs?
I been spectating quite a few multiplayer matches. Not comfortable enough with my own skill to jump in. Although, to be fair, I've been enjoying watching those games a bit less due to the incessant whining and blaming in most matches. I mean, in a noob friendly match/server it might be okayish during the match, but god forbid you effed it and the team is losing in part because of you. You'll hear all about it, no mercy. Even when people played their own lanes bad. They'll blame you anyway. All that is my impression after spectating several dozen games.
I don't recall getting flamed too much, I mostly just stuck with noob lobbies and sometimes we would talk about what we messed up. The general advice I got when I started was be able to beat the hard ai in 1v1 and you'll probably at least have some grasp of the first 10 minutes of the game. If you've already played all those you'll be able to pick up the fundamentals pretty quickly. I think it only took me a few tries to be able to beat the AI. @Deathadder90 Yeah I think once you start ranking up you start to encounter the people who think they should backseat all their teammates. On the other side it can be quite frustrating to watch your teammate flounder around. I'd just ignore it and if they're real shitty just not play with that asshole anymore.
@HallowedError Is there any kind of system in the game that lets you avoid matching with players you have for example blacklisted, or is it more a matter of leaving if you join a lobby and someone you dont get along with is there already or joins later? Also thank you both for your answers, I appreciate it. I also dont expect the community to be flawless, there will always be people who backseat teammates and scapegoat, so my hope is more that the community is less made up of people like that and more people who are there to have fun. I have no idea what kind of rankings there are, nor what rankings would be generally represented in these vids, but I was surprised by how generally lighthearted these guys have been compared to other strategy games ive seen, which is what lead me to my considerations in the first place.
If you've ever played any other team based competitive games you probably have experienced the exact type of toxicity that BAR has. When things go wrong some people just default to finding the closest person to blame. Outside of that as long as you're willing to learn generally people are pretty chill in BAR compared to other games I've played.
Every constructor got a button on the bottom that says "area mex" when you click that button and then drag click over the ground you expand a circle in which the con will automatically build every extractor

some people are moba-tier douchebags - that prefer typing than playing - but most of the players are open to newbies.

how do you upgrade more then one mex at a time?

Or you can get area Mex by double clicking the metal extractor of the type you want, which allows you to do exploiters and other things like that.
