    Marty, I have to congratulate you on the quality of your tutorials, you have a vocal style that is well measured and a pleasure to listen to. I find the tutorials to be clear, concise, informative and easy to follow and I have learnt a huge amount from them since I started following you a year or so ago. Many thanks.

    would like to learn how you did the one above, where half is chalk and the other is like a real photo. neat effect. Please do a tutorial on that.

    @ Blue Lightning TV,
    A minutes 4:29, you use a layer mask.
    I use a Mac and have a full version Photoshop CS6
    Layer masks have proven to be the hardest concept for me to use productively.
    Regardless, try as I might, when I use the pencil tool to eliminate unwanted chalk lines, I can’t get the feature to work despite following you word for word.
    Any ideas?

    For the photo you used, why not just use the Magic Eraser and turn the subject's white background transparent with one click (or three if a "contiguous" setting is required), instead of selecting it with the wand and then separating the subject from that layer?

    • @BLTV_Photoshop
      @BLTV_Photoshop  8 років тому

      +TechSupport100 It's a personal choice, but I find that the Magic Wand Tool has more control.

    which layer do you add the noise to?
    It is kind of confusing.
    Other than that, the video is great and very well detailed.

    • @BLTV_Photoshop
      @BLTV_Photoshop  8 років тому

      +Meffrey Jin The noise is added to the layer mask, which should still be "active".

    Hey Marty, love this tutorial. Like Mariana Estrata I would love to see how you create the look at marker 0:13 where the person is emerging from the brick wall. Having watched many of your tutorials I think I know a way but would be very curious to see how you would do it.Another request, that I personally would find super helpful in my learning, is that when you select an option that you explain why that one, or why that one and not the other(s). For instance, at 5:30 you say to "Tick Gaussian and drag the slider..." Why Gaussian and not Uniform? I've noticed this in other videos as well. If I had to speculate I figure you have covered these features in earlier videos but for someone like myself coming into this one not having seen earlier ones, and being new to these advanced Photoshop features I would find a definition/rationale extremely educational.
    Thanks Marty, I truly appreciate you sharing your expertise. I have learned so much. If you're ever in Nova Scotia I'll buy you lunch.

    • @BLTV_Photoshop
      @BLTV_Photoshop  7 років тому +1

      The way I created the look at 0:13 is by placing 2 layers in the Layers panel. The top layer is the photo of the running man and the bottom layer is the chalk drawing on a brick wall. I placed a layer mask next to the top layer and filled the layer mask with a horizontal gradient - black to white. Think of layer masks as stencils, in which white reveals and black masks out. In this case, the black of the layer mask masked out the top layer, which revealed the layer under it.
      Regarding your second request, I do explain the functions and differences of many of the filter settings, however, it would be redundant to explain them each time and my tutorials would be way too long if I did so.

    • @charlesley1
      @charlesley1 7 років тому

      Blue Lightning TV Photoshop ... That is exactly how I was going to do it. I learned that technique from another of your videos. Thanks for the learning opportunity! As for the explanations, I suspected that may be the case and agree.
      A suggestion... when you've got nothing else to do or are looking for a new project, revisit an existing project and do an expanded explainer version. Similar to how some shows will rebroadcast last week's show but add narrative text or expanded footage. You could market these videos as standalone tutorials for folks who have the program and just want to recreate that effect.
      When you're bored and got nothing else to do...maybe Wednesday! 😉
      Thanks again Marty.
