I can't remember the name of the restaurant, but I ordered a meatball sub from this place that flattened their "meatballs" a bit (not flat like a burger) and it just held up better. I'm definitely going to try this recipe.
I find bigger meatball more difficult to cook in large sizes, especially because when you to stir them in the sauce if they are still undercooked in the middle they can break in half. I just do my tomato sauce about 70% and do half tabblespoons of meat rolled without flour directly into the sauce because if you stir them they are so small they wont break as easily and because the sauce will penetrate deeper into the meat
Something that I do which I recommend to done adventurous folks is add chopped garlic, cumin, and chopped parsley to the meat. Adds a lovely mediterranean twist.

1 can (how many oz?) crushed tomatoes
5 cloves garlic
1/2 cup olive oil
4 oz 120g pancetta or bacon
Handful of basil
Plus extra fresh basil to finish
Meatballs:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
2 eggs
1/3 cup 12g grated parmigiano reggiano
1 teaspoon 2g fennel seeds, toasted
1 tablespoon fresh oregano, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
4 slices finely chopped prosciutto
3/4 cup 42g panko bread crumbs
Splash milk
YES! Gets a nice crust on the meatballs, then put them in the sauce to finish cooking.
