Philippine was Alert: China deploys ‘monster’ ship near disputed shoal.
The Philippine military said Tuesday that China had deployed what is believed to be the world’s largest coast guard vessel near a rusting naval ship, which serves as Manila’s outpost at a disputed South China Sea shoal.A week before to the purported sighting, a Filipino sailor suffered a finger injury while engaging in a tight confrontation with Philippine and CCG forces close to the BRP Sierra Madre, a naval vessel that is stranded and acts as a military outpost on the shoal; the outpost is commanded by marines. Beijing and Manila have been at odds over a number of reefs in the South China Sea, which are claimed by both countries and are located both inside and outside of the nine-dash line.
