I'd like to thank WOWTAC for their generous gift of the A5 lights. We're already putting them to use in our bee yards and on cut outs.
This is not a monetarily sponsored video and as with any other product I may promote on my channel my opinion can't be bought either with cash or free stuff. These truly are some great lights. I've been using their products for two years now in their Thrunite line of lights. Check this light out on Amazon amzn.to/2W5C8hG
For those of you who don't already know, the nuc box in this video is the Jester EZ Nuc. They are great for short term keeping or to use as mating nucs. They also transport really well which is why we started using them several years ago. We're also trying out the Pro Nucs that I believe came out last year.
I've been getting a LOT of requests to incorporate more teaching videos which is what I was trying to do with this nuc bump up. My camera however, had different ideas. I hate that the original audio didn't come out but I hope you enjoy the video anyway. Voice over is not my favorite way to build a video. Some people are great at it. I feel like I need work in that department. I did figure out the audio issue. I had to the on board microphone turned off.

Wow that’s a box of bees! Just a thought which I’m sure you already know
If you put an empty box in place of the hive you are going through all the flying bees will go to it making your inspection for eggs or queen a heck of a lot easier, you can just shake em back in after.
I think you got there a little late but any later they’d have been sending out caste swarms with each virgin that emerged 🙂

I seen an article today in the news that the Asian Giant Hornet is now in America. The article has them up around Washington State, but it won't be long til it makes it's way south to warmer regions. 5 of these hornets can kill a honey bee hive of 20k or more no problem, so keep your eye out for them. Whether you wear a bee suit or not, and it won't really matter if you do, since their stinger, which feels like a hot metal poker driving into your skin can penetrate a bee suit. You can't miss them if you see them, they are about 2in long. I am only bringing it to your attention, I enjoy yall's videos and want you to be safe. (I have posted this on the 3 bee keepers I watch, If yall know some pass it along, They are to be killed on sighting them if you can)

Schawee is a great teacher, he taught you how to line up queen cells after plucking them like grapes off the comb. Also, I know why you could not locate the queen, it was not because of the number of bees in the box, you were to close. You should have backed up 6 feet and you would have found both of those girls lickedy split. God's peace brother.

Being an alteh kocher and hating inefficiency I went to all mediums last year. Now any frame can go anywhere I need it and my poor decrepit body does not have to wrangle heavy deep boxes. All of the nucs were either purpose Built as 5 frames or were cut down. They are built with an extra inch of height to allow room for swarm cells if I need them. The system works great for me. Whatever your preference in frame size I recommend going with one size box. Life is a lot easier.

Even if the hive is weak, I still hate ants. Any mediums you don't send to your dad, come on over and we'll deal. I want to keep more and more, my supers as mediums. Ain't getting any younger. Mr. Ed scowls when I tell him that, but one day when he needs help lifting those deeps off, I'll be there, and giving him the business the whole time...

Flashlights are one of my things. Along with playing cards, I also collect, among other things, modified flashlights. I have almost 100, some costing over $600 each. This is a fact: Any flashlight made in China whose brand ends in "-TAC" are usuallly cheaply made lights and they lie about their lumens like there's no tomorrow - usually by a factor of about 4. [EagTac is the one exception.] If you want a real high quality light that's compact (not sure if you want a flood or spot though), stick with the following brands: Noctigon, Fenix, Zebralight, Surefire or Acebeam. The Noctigon Meteor is only 3 or 4 inches long and gives a true 4000 lumens. Fenix also has 4000 lumen lights but they arent as compact, but the tradeoff is they dont get as hot, which is nice. If you want more info, dont hesitate to ask.

    • @628DirtRooster
      @628DirtRooster  4 роки тому

Good info Thanks I know some of the lights I've gotten don't hold a charge nearly as long as advertised. They are bright. Hard to say what lumen they actually are without special equipment I'm guessing but these are bright enough for me. One of the two I have is a little glitchy though.

Voiceover allows you the opportunity to introduce the barely noticeable honey bee farts. Taken all together it sounds like a symphony. 😂

Voice over was good😎. When you go back in after a week will you clean off the top bar on the mediums? What do you do about the ants?Big ant problem here in Texas, there to I’m sure.

    I know you had a reason /goal
I would have had to leave one frame brood queen cell and one food frame in the nuc and filled it with empty frames ,shut the lid,
then one frame of brood in the deep plus empty frames queen excluder shake all bees down
    rest in medium
extra brood off medium frames in deep .
great video voice over OK too
stay safe hope you do better PPE with corona than you do with bee's .

Great video, as always! How come most of the bees in your videos are super-mellow and easy to work on? Is this because they've got breeder's queens or their daughters? Mine have been really nasty lately, probably due to several generations of local breeding.

I have seen that some farmers will buy queens.

Yes, if you're referring to commercial beekeepers. Typical farmers have no use for queens.

I’m sure your dad likes the mediums because they’re so much lighter. I bet you do need a lot of good flashlights when you don’t start beekeeping until 6:28 or later. 😂

Good video despite the do-over, so to speak. I'd love to have you do an in-depth on queen management if you ever get the time. You seem like you been at the grind too long in this one, I can feel the tired. Don't work too hard, get some rest and Hang in there!

If I put out a swarm trap next to a tree with a feral hive that swarmed last year, vs say a small 8 to 10 colony beeyard what has a better chance of a catch?

I have one Thrunite left. My favorite one got closed up in someone's carport ceiling in Waveland, MS. Took me a week to figure out what I did with it. One day someone will find a very nice light. :(

Sometimes, you have to let Mother Nature deal with things. She's been at it for several billion years now, and we just have to let Her do Her business. She can be very "red of tooth and claw".

With this one I put one frame of brood with a colony I just removed from a house and split the other four frames evenly (two and two) and added three empty frames to each split in two nuc boxes. Moved one off site.
