Every once in a while i'll speak to a "real" beekeeper. They get annoyed when I tell them all my knowledge comes from a youtube channel. They should be impressed I picked from Dirtrooster to learn from. Some day i'll have my own hive, until then, i'll enjoy watching you work yours.
Truth. I've had quite a few similar situations with different fields of expertise and they ask me how do I know that. When my response is UA-cam/Google, they then proceed to brush me off like I don't know anything. Odd. xD
Ignorance can be painful sometimes. Maybe they consider people who learn from UA-cam as non experts, despite many of us enjoying videos from beekeepers who enjoy what they do. Honestly, I just ignore all that. I know a thing or two regarding bees thanks to these videos and I've learnt how important they are for the environment.
Human nature, you learned in a fraction of the time that it may have taken them through the school of experience and hard knocks, sometimes a lifetime to learn such things. Don't be to hard on them. Feel sorrow for them. UA-cam, especially if you check out more than one channel and read the comments, is the next best thing to a mentor, sometimes better. You have found a good channel here. There are others full of good information as well.
Probably because you don't have hands on experience. You can know exactly what and how to do something in a given situation, but you don't have the motions/ muscle memory people who have been doing this for years have. Just because you know all the words in Hamlet doesn't mean you can act.
@@toomuchglitters7254 That still doesn't mean people need to get annoyed when you talk to them, just because the source of your information isn't "hands-on".
Just imagine if they make something that you could put over your eyes to protect them from stuff falling in like when you're cutting above you and you're looking up to see where you're cutting at.
Wow that was a huge hive! .. Love your videos especially when you have company, you have some awesome friends and family .. Enjoy your time off .. at the beach ..
Me. Been following him most of a year now. Very informative. Love his gentleness and caring ways with the girls. Comradery with other keepers of bees. Southern accent as well.
Apprentices in the trades ought to watch your vids, if nothing other than to observe your ethics and morals. A couple of cases in point, a) constantly washing your hands/arms when handling food, b) the care you take cleaning up and returning the jobsite back to its pre-existing condition. Great role model (for all ages) you are sir.
Yes and no, what you mention, yes, his ignorance of the life cycle of hive beetles, and subsequent failure to control their grubs is leading to a worse situation overall. I wish he would adopt the practices of the British Beekeeping Society.
What is the reasoning for using the crevice tool during the vacuuming instead of a wider device? I can understand it for running against the wood, tho.

I love the way those beautiful bees just keep on working even as Randy is hoovering them up! They are sch marvellous creatures. Thank you for the post, time for me to sleep now after watching my ASMR 😴😂
Love your channel! I stumbled upon it accidentally. I knew nothing about bees or other stingers, but have been facinated to learn from you. Been binge watching during COVID 19 lockdown. I admire your enthusiasm, your work ethic, and sense of humor. Hooray from a southerner from Virginia!
WOWZERS! Monster is an understatement to describe the size of that hive! Mr. Rooster, with all the hives you had, plus your dad's hives, as well as those that you've acquired from swarm traps, & cutouts, you should have enough hives to open a commercial honey business by now!
Sure happy to see you finally got a removal where you could get not only your water melon hands into but you even managed to get your pumpkin head in there as well. Great looking hive, those bees have some good genetics going on to produce that many bees and that much comb. God's peace brother.
Nice cutout and hive it never ceases to amaze me how while you are in the process of demolishing their home the girls are still trying to clean up the honey cheers mate .
That’s about the size of the CSI cutout that Jeff and I did in Slidell a little over 3 years ago. But it was inside In The air conditioning. It still took about 4 hours to get that one out.
We've done a lot of removals and that's pretty average unless you're dealing with sheet metal and/or masonry. The worst one I've heard about was inside a chimney that was both. The guys got cut up and stung both.
I captured my first swarm a few days ago off of a wood fence post. It was very small. Found the queen and caged her. Got most of the bees in and then the rest marched in toward the queen in the evening. The only box I have is a full size new box with plastic foundation. I fed the bees some sugar water and patty while they were locked up for a couple days. After a couple days, I opened the entrance so they could forage. I still have the queen in a clip cage inside. I'm hoping they will build out and get invested in their new home before I let the queen out. How long should I keep the queen caged? And how do I keep ants out of the hive? I already see ants walking around the outside and legs of the box.
I have enjoyed watching several of your videos. I've learned so much but realize how little I know. They truly are amazing creatures and thru you I have gained respect for the bees and the keepers. I live in northwest Alabama and am considering locating local beekeepers to learn more. Thanks for all the videos!
Another great video and hive removal! As for dehydration you might want to try some generic baby electrolytes, keep them in an ice chest because they taste better when ice cold. We used them when loading square bales of hay along with plenty of water. As soon as you start feeling tired drink a bottle of the electrolytes and you’ll feel revitalized!
15:00 My wife is a food safety inspector with the FDA, and I have heard horror stories about food prep and sundry. Does me well to hear you speak on that same concern.
I lost so many utility knives that I wrote Stanley a snarky email saying to paint them camo so they'll sell more. Then I said "orange please". Within 90 days they had orange everything.
That is a bigun. I sure enjoy watching you and Mr. Ed and JP. It looks like you are living in one of the best places in the country for beekeepers. My family is from your part of the country. I was born up in Homer so I have that connection with you all and I’m watching and I’ll keep on watching as Mr. Ed would say.
Hey Randy, When your legs start cramping up like that. Eat bananas or drink something that has potassium in it. Normally when that happens your potassium levels are most likely low also. I have that happen often and it really helps a lot.
I have a flashlight obsession. I bought some recently that look like glow sticks. Not too bright but I think they’ll be good during an emergency since they flash.
Those ladies are just so busy! They don't even seem to care that you're there. And watching the vacuum tip brushing over them, a few get sucked in, but the rest just keep working, like they just don't have any time for your mess! Bet the honey taste wonderful!
Or just... Be a human and add some normal dietary potassium. Kidney beans, potatoes & sweet potatoes, dark leafy greens like spinach & broccoli, mushrooms, peas, etc. You definitely don't need THAT MUCH salt. 😣 Good gosh.
Those muscle cramps drove me mad too. Drinking water just flushes out the electrolytes, making the charlie horses worse at night. Please take a look at snake juice. Basically mixing some Himalayan Pink salt and other stuff with water, so those electrolytes get replenished. Dont bother with gatorade or similar sports drinks. Get some real cheap snake juice, make it at home for pennies. Cole Robinson, snake juice. (Ignore the snake diet, thats way too hard core.) Hope it helps!!!
Nice flashlights! I'm going to be getting some of those. Slight upgrade from my halogen Maglite lol. I think I'll stand next to Mr Ed with my suit on and let the bee share their love with you. Great video and educational content!
Beehive Ninja. He comes in rain or shine, or cover of darkness. He’s armed with only a knife, flashlight, and Dustbuster. No cape for this superhero, only a veil and a ball cap. Love the video's and have watched quite a few of them, I think my favorite was the one where you got stung on the lip LOL, sorry but you made it hilarious, good stuff!

For sure man. Definite allergic to em but get throughly amazed by some of these hives (get it?) being removed
