Thanks for this old vid Bob! Just got around to installing in my 2018 GX and went off without a hitch. Was able to center it near the bottom under the vent there was an opening where they are putting the factory charger now. Looks great!
you are heaven sent sir, I've been searching for this for ages and thank you for side comedies....folks in Calif and charger tester- lmao! hahaha..liked and subscribed ...
I have a 2022 GX460. This was a great help. I added a USB 3.0 port but tripped the fuse for the cigarette lighter. Took me a while to find the fuse. I thought it was a fuse in the fuse box inside of the car. But it was the 15 A fuse that is in the engine bay fuse box.
@@GXBOB yes, I short the circuit with my meter when I was testing voltage. There are fuses for outlets at both fuse boxes. Confused me when 7.5 a fuse inside didn’t pop but the 15 a fuse outside poped.
@@solohikr7759 I agree, if i could do a do-over, i'd find some bolt and nuts with washers instead of a screw. Otherwise the exterior isn't too "janky" looking. Pretty flush and clean.
Did that wire harness clipped to the rear panel look like it is pre-wired for rear climate control? If it is, maybe an easy upgrade to make if you can find the panel on ebay/junkyard?
Hi Bob, At time stamp 21:36 at the console Back "black" Panel, what is that used cable harness to the left used for (I'm sure for premium options of GX460)? Do you know if it has the voltage needed to connect your dual USB port with a short speaker cord? Thanks & love the channel!
You’re absolutely correct. That is used for the middle row temperature control that the base model doesn’t have. I did not test that plug for a live wire and i should have. Thanks for the input.
Hey Bob love the videos, I’m buying a Lexus GX 460 before new year , you have some very informative stuff, the first mod is definitely the 2020 grill. Do you know if the steering wheel is interchangeable with the 2020?
First off, congrats to your new car and a love affair that will follow. A steering exchange is a most definitely a big job that will require special tools such as, I'm guessing a wheel puller. I've never attempted it on this car nor do foresee it ever happening sir. Out of curiosity, are u doing it for the wood grain?
Thank you, I appreciate it. I was just wondering, because the one I’m going to buy it’s going to have the red wood trim on the inside which most of them come with and I’m not a big fan of it, so I want to change all the trim on the interior and the steering wheel trim
So if you wire this to the existing USB or lighter port, why does this as you said draw from the car when off? Do the stock ports do the same? No way would I remember to turn off that thing when I leave the car... Is turning it off critical? Is there a way to avoid the issue? Thanks.
its really up to you how you want to wire it up. I only gave an example of where to grab power from. You can actually grab power from an accessory wire and have the outlet turn off when you shut down the engine.
Bob - great video. I thought about doing this, but I don't care for the folks in back. For me though, I think it would be super convenient to have a wireless charger underneath the armrest. The thing is ~2 thick...there must be enough room to jamb a thin wireless charger in there and route power in a similar fashion as this rear video, right?
This is a great video...Do you know if the same can be done to add a charger somewhere on the side of the 3rd row seat using the outlet thats in the back?
Yes, the same rules apply. All you have to do is tap into the same power and ground wires of your 3rd row Lexus OEM USB ports back there. I was thinking about doing that myself but i don't' use the 3rd row that much to invest in the work.
@@GXBOB i don't have a USB one in the back..its a regular outlet plug instead so hopefully it'll be similar wiring instead of a harness. Also, im thinking of adding 2 USB sockets in the middle row instead of the 1 you added( kids these days lol)..you think that'll be too much power if I connect 2 t taps in the oem cigarette wires where you connected yours?
@@voicecall26 Well, cigarette lighter, electrical socket, and USB all use the same power source (12v), so you shouldn't have a problem tying into whatever you already have in the 3rd row. Good luck!
Hey Agent J, make sure the one you buy advertises "quick charge" @ 3.0 or higher. You also don't need the power on/off button since our cigarette lighter works off of ignition and not continuous power. Good luck with your install!

You might have to actually remove the arm rest console unit. As i don' t have one to actually provide any real advice on, i would just look on the sides and within the armrest storage for any screws and bolts.
That looks great Bob.. I wish I can install one of this on the rear as well but, I can't do this in mine because mine has climate control unit taking over that whole space... smh..
