Nice! You could use some EQ either on the FX send or return to shape the tone as well. It was a fun experiment. My professor in college used to do the same demo in a bigger stairwell and it sounded awesome!
i never knew what spring reverb was until now, but i think it's my favorite way to add more beautiful dimension to a guitar. thank you for this knowledge
I should add this tidbit of humor. (I began my studio activities in Nashville in the mid-1970's). An engineer in Nashville pranked a colleague before a session in Nashville by putting a cat in the reverb echo chamber prior to a session at Jack Clement Studios. The session engineer went into the studio a bit later to set up the session and was checking the "big" board, etc. and when he raised the slider for the reverb he kept hearing these "weird" sounds and couldn't figure out what in the world was going on. At first he thought it might be an RF issue and checked everything around the board to see if there was a frayed cable, etc...this went on for some time...finally, in frustration, he got up and went to check the chamber itself...he found the cat, of course...that story made the rounds in the Nashville session community for weeks......BTW...the cat was not happy. Neither was the session engineer...but I heard he got his revenge, if you get my drift......(no blood was spilled.)
I saw the notification of this video just right after our teacher messaged us to remind us to study spatial effects for next class, now that's what I call great timing haha. Great video as always! Thank you!

I love Convolution reverbs and plugins. Was doing an audio drama mix and edit for a client recently, an the whole thing was under water. I ended up grabbing a sound of something hitting water that was recorded on a hyrophone, and fed that to Avid space, and oh my gosh it was such a cool sound. Lovely ominous low ends, with the shimmer of a large hall (I think it sounded like a hall at least), and you could even occasionally hear the ripples from the original sample. It was just a chefs kiss
@@AudioUniversity happy to help this fine community, but I gotta be honest, I kinda took the idea from reddit. Someone posted their own underwater impulse responses, but I couldn’t find the download in time so I improvised. Plus I have to justify my yearly subscription to SoundSnap. Regardless, the potential of convolution verbs is endless. It’s crazy what they give you with Avid space. Shame it’s locked behind ProTools AAX format, but there’s technically nothing to stop you from extracting it’s wav files
Excellent history lesson. I never really spent much time playing with guitar amps, so I had assumed that spring reverb sound had something to do with the guitar itself or the pedals used. That was a lightbulb moment for sure.
Digital recreation of an analogue reality is one of the modern arrivals that are making us insane. Recording the noisey thing in the space where it makes its noise works. Ask a bat.
Hey Kyle, congrats on this amazing piece, I’d like to see more videos going over history, I love seeing your opinions and explanations of the topics, and as always, great video!
So very cool, Thankyou. Big fan of using Reverb from my guitar Amps, Creates such a 'fuller', 'Warmer' tone. Found this interesting, educational and entertaining and learnt a lot, Thankyou. Cheers
would be great if you could do subtle zoom ins on the knobs for us mobile users. i’m familiar with reverb so it’s not a big deal for me but j thought i’d mention it. cheers brother very educational. i much prefer these videos to the shorts and will watch every single one of them.
Another great video! Been really enjoying what comes in Spark, though at $20/month and no ownership possible over time I'm still feeling it out. Seems like UA could at least throw in some more of their plugins at the rate they're charging to just rent their plugins. That being said I look forward to more AU/UA collaborations since I'm getting into these plugins myself.
Plus there is no outboard or plug in reverb that can provide the sound of true first reflections. That’s where you can really place things more clearly in a mix.
There are NO in the box plug in reverbs that can compare to a real space or to an excellent out of the box reverb. Convolution or algorithm or. Most of you have never used a real live chamber, a real plate, a Bricasti, a tc M)000 , , a Sony DRE S777 or a Quantec. It’s another world folks.
If I’m being brutally honest, the “stairway reverb chamber” offered a blast of colour and character that most modern drum rooms lack. I liked it 🤠👍

Natural a acoustics are superior. Try a canyon and tell me I’m wrong.
