- Easter in Nicaragua is called Semana Santa and the traditional activity is taking the family to the beach for the holiday. It is wild. We visit Poneloya's Playa Las Peñitas today to see what the crowd is like all along the beach road and at the Simple Beach Lodge & Pirate's Point restaurant. You can see all the food carts and stands all along the road. We start the day exploring a quiet meadow, finding the river, and discovering the bridge that we could not find before! Adventure awaits! That was a change in pace. I enjoyed getting back to the lodge.
🤩That road trip down Las Penitas brought back some memories! I was there for Semana Santa about 11 years ago, and it was quite the experience. All the excitement and people there during the national vacation. The rest of the year it's like a private beach with great restaurants around.
Yeah, it is weird how it goes from quiet "private beach" to the hub of activity overnight.

In all friendliness it hurts to hear you say “malecon”. You say “semana santa” just fine but why don’t you want to say malecón with the accent on the last syllable like ice cream cone???😂😂😂😂

What are the main reasons for no financial investments, either private or government? One of their best beach towns should have business outsife of one week of the year surely?
You need tourists of some sort. There are more businesses than the tourism can support. So no one is investing more and it would certainly be a loss. If the government invested, they'd be signing the death sentence to any existing businesses. But the government doesn't run businesses themselves here like that, that would be weird. But we sure don't want other private investors, there isn't enough business to go around as it is.
