It's not that remote..in the rainy season it seems so because the road is so shit like many other parts of the country but in the dry season it only takes about 30 mins to get to the city. You can easily go back and forth and go out for the night when you feel like being social. People commute longer times in the usa and canada. There used to be party nights, hostels and more restaurants here but the town hasnt really recovered from lack of tourists during covid. It has great potential as it is one of the best surf spots in Nicaragua.
Hi Scott, thanks for this video. Salinas Grande is a beautiful, tranquil beach and I'm working on a development project there right now. My family's company is designing 20 oceanfront townhomes which will be available for presale this fall. If you or any of your viewers are interested in the beach I'd love to talk more to you all. It's truly an unspoiled strip of land with an estuary and turtle nesting grounds. True, the road is currently rough, but we are working to have it improved to make the beach more accessible. :)
In the Leon area your best options are Las Peñitas and Poneloya. Best restaurant by far on either beach is Puesta de Sol near "the bend" which is the main area of the beach. Other good food options on the sand include The Simple Beach Lodge, Sua and Barca de Oro.
Wow! What a beautiful beach 🥰!! Tell me more about those crocodiles...have you made a video about animals that can kill you in Nicaragua? 😳 With the prices I've seen on vehicles in Nicaragua, i would hate to spend money on a truck to ruin it on that rocky road. I also saw someone in an expat group the other day selling a floor lamp for $100 and a used crock pot for $45... people give away things like tgat where i live. I've seen some videos where you mentioned the high price of electronics, but i was thinking more like computers and TV's.
Crocs are only on the beaches and only in the waterways. The only beach I've ever heard of them being near people on is SJDS. Up north they are just in the reserves. Expat groups are going to be misleading. That's a miniscule microcosm of life in Nicaragua. But people aren't going to give away things that cost a significant portion of income here, either. They can't. Things like a crock pot were likely brought in on a plane and is a big deal. I've never seen one here. If your truck is ruined on that rocky road, you need better trucks, lol. I'm doing it in a CAR. A little car. and it was rough, but it was okay. Everyone uses Toyota, Nissan and Mazda here... so they hold up well.
Salinas Grande is definitely not not NOT an expat community!!! There are eight expats five from the US and three from Canada. I didn't come to Nicaragua to live with expats.
I know more Americans than that that live there. I live just one beach up, so the expats from Salinas Grandes come up to Leon from time to time and you run into them there. I've hung out with more than eight Salinas Grandes expats at a single time at Coco Calala before.

Horse races? Salinas Grandes I'm liking
Not that I am aware of but horse SHOWS are huge. My chef comes from a horse show family and I'll ask her if she knows of horse racing.

Salinas Grandes, a forgotten land (beach)?
Need a boat to get there from Poneloya.
If coming from Las Peñitas, yes a boat is best and pretty easy.
aha yes what kind of races?
In this case we stumbled on 4x4 dirt track racing up in the mountains.
