Felt like I had to watch this one more time before I could go face my evening. I can give or take his rock and roll, but Jerry Lee's country is something special.
I've being saying the same thing to myself for 35 years or more. Great Balls of Fire is an amazing Rock n' Roll song and he likes to be classified as one of the greatest Rock n' Roll artists of all time, of which I agree with. However he truly is a living contradiction to me because noting brings life to my country soul like 'Another Place, Another Time' and what he has done for the Country & Western genre would send a shiver down Hank seniors spine.
I wish I could have seen him live in the 50's or 60's but I wasn't quite born yet. He is a musical genius and no one could ever compare to his talent. I hope he lives forever!!!
When I was 12 my father took me to see Jerry Lee play. I am so grateful and have the awesome memory sitting next to my Dad and brother watching Jerry Lee play the hell out of the piano. Just found out about his passing. RIP Legend!
Last Man Standing -- Jerry Lee is still with us. God Bles Jerry Lee Lewis. What a great entertainer! An original. Never cared too much what people thought of him. Thanks for posting this.
I was born 1955 .as im growing up i heard the name Jerry Lee Lewis i know hes famous but i dont know hes songs at that time .i know elvis but i realize he is better and good than elvis .at my age now of 65 years. Im started to be avid fan of jerry lee Lewis .i love all his songs its unique with midas touch.
Jerry Lee is the man! As you cain says below, it has a Down South revival meet feeling to it. I've heard it and sang it umpteen times, and I only realsied that recently!
this performance has the feel of a religious experience to it, its as close to attending a tent revival in the deep south as you can get w/o attending one...
They said there is no way a man could write such melancholy lyrics, he's taking credit for some others talent. Alcohol and morphine , whats the quote "will make you plumb the depths of your soul". Luke the Drifter sang and grown men teared up. When a song starts "I got the invitation you sent me..you wanted me to see you change your name" doesn't matter
YOu're right on the southern prounciation, but he is and always will be the Killer because he's too damn good to be called a killah like all those new artists claim to be.
To Edna 41000, oh how agree, the fifties where the best.we had the best of both worlds, Great balads well sung with great melodys and lyrics and the best Rock and Roll.
0:13 seems like the drummer starts the verse too slow and Jerry yells at him to "pick it up", which he does. You can see the drummer laughing after, looking over at perhaps the bass player. Jerry's piano playing becomes more rhythmically demonstrative to indicate the tempo. Once established, he goes back to ornamental playing.
A super talent then he goes and gets KO"d by a 13 year old, Jerry you could have been a contender through all the years that you were black balled which robbed yourself and the world of your talent.
Opps! I was just trying to define the "phrase" Back in the day.Lady killer ie: "Lady killah was a matter of speech denoting a male figure that woman/girls were attracted to. Killah vs. K I L L E R just defined that Jerry Leewas not a Felon! Thanks,, and..You bet! Jerry Lee WAS.. THE BEST!
there's allway's been lots of kings and queens, elvis's the king of rock and roll, madonna is the queen of pop, michael jacksin's the king of pop. but beside all that have you noticed there's only on killer!!
@bazthehandyman Hank Williams Greatest Hits/Etta James version of "I"ll Take Care Of You" as soulful as it gets. Take the time to find Ettas' work on Take Care of You, people are glad they did. My 2 cents

Seek a medical EVAL on your Rock n Roll comment, asap. 🙄🤔
Some of the best songs were made in the 50s and 60s. This is one of those.
Where had th good times go? The younger generations will not have these memories. Oh~Take me back to the fifties
`
I wish I could have seen him live in the 50's or 60's but I wasn't quite born yet. He is a musical genius and no one could ever compare to his talent. I hope he lives forever!!!
He'll have to; no one could ever replace him!
There has NEVER been a better piano player, singer or song writer. I have always loved your music, Mr. Lewis.
Mozart was good too.
Nancy Salisbury
Absolutely!
Jerry didn't write
I guess you never heard about the Domino just to keep it peaceful Jerry Lee definitely has fingers
This is the best version on here!
Jerry always sounds the best when he is playing to a crowd...and not to many can say that.
This version may be the best --- country soulfulness--- greatness
I love this version but no one can ever top Hank Williams singing his song.
My favorite version of this song. Captures a different edge of his talent.
My favorite jerry lee performance!
Indimenticabile! Erano anche i miei 15 anni 😅
Best cover ever done of this song.....PERIOD!
Awesome performance and video! Captures JLL in his prime!!
'Another Place, Another TIme and She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye"..were two of the "GREATEST COUNTRY MUSIC ALBUMS" of all time by any artist..
Aww!! The Killer was smoking here. He out Hanked the Hillbilly Shakespeare himself.
After the break at :11 sec the drummer comes in slow and Jerry yells "PICK IT UP!" 😆
When I was 12 my father took me to see Jerry Lee play. I am so grateful and have the awesome memory sitting next to my Dad and brother watching Jerry Lee play the hell out of the piano. Just found out about his passing. RIP Legend!
😅what a great interpretation of a great song, by a great, great legend.
Last Man Standing -- Jerry Lee is still with us. God Bles Jerry Lee Lewis. What a great entertainer! An original. Never cared too much what people thought of him. Thanks for posting this.
Jerry had so much talent i always preferred him over Elvis to me he has more talent
Jerry Lee Lewis and Hank Williams Sr., it just doesn't get better than that.

that piano was pretty much kindling wood when the killer got done with it
extraqrdinaire
What a Genius God,what a Genius!!!!!
Great sound balance before the Saxophones and Organ start to creep up higher into the mix and into the songs that followed.
YOu're right on the southern prounciation, but he is and always will be the Killer because he's too damn good to be called a killah like all those new artists claim to be.
What an elaborate set! those motorcycles on those platforms! lol
What a talent. It's such a shame things went the way they did for him.
To Edna 41000, oh how agree, the fifties where the best.we had the best of both worlds, Great balads well sung with great melodys and lyrics and the best Rock and Roll.

Milton Moore

A super talent then he goes and gets KO"d by a 13 year old, Jerry you could have been a contender through all the years that you were black balled which robbed yourself and the world of your talent.
0:13 Jerry tells the drummer to speed it up. (He was dragging a little.)

@bazthehandyman
Hank Williams Greatest Hits/Etta James version of "I"ll Take Care Of You" as soulful as it gets. Take the time to find Ettas' work on Take Care of You, people are glad they did. My 2 cents
I wonder if he wrote this song while looking in the mirror like Prince did with cream.
He didn't write this song. Country legend Hank Williams did
Jerry Lee is far from a perfect human being, but put a piano in front of him and he turns into a god.
