I love Jax, I miss living there so much. Great video. Here are a few things: 1. Jacksonville is the biggest city landwise in continental US (Alaska has larger towns/cities) 2. Jacksonville is the 11th most populated city in the US. 9/23 3. There are plenty of places in Florida that are rough and are very white - Mims, Cocoa Beach, and some parts of Daytona Beach 4. I went to a church in Jacksonville (RCC) that would go to Lackawanna and throw birthday parties, give medical aid, and financial help people in public housing in that area.
My friends moved to Jax 5 years ago - Baymeadows and Southside and I've visited several times. If you want to see the future of Jacksonville, just look towards Charlotte as well as south and central Florida. I lived in Austin Texas for the last 10 years and can vouch what is coming towards Jax. 10 years ago one could get a cheap house on the east side of Austin for $50k. Same house now goes for $500k. No joke. Tons of gentrification. What the banking industry did to Charlotte over the last 10 years the Wall Street firms are now doing to Jacksonville. I plan on moving to Jax end of next summer as property values will start to really escalate in a few years and I would like to be on the atlantic. Also, as Metro Jax continues to grow so to will its terms. There will be a day when St. Augustine and St. Mary's is just another Jax suburb and metro jax will have 3 or 4 million residence. When that happens it will be a totally different place. It is what it is good or bad.
Great video! I grew up in "Springfield" on Pearl; I left about 10 years ago. I think the reference point for our north and south is around the Main Street Bridge(the blue one). If you look at maps/watch local news, they refer to "North Bank" and "South Bank"(river banks) and Arlington happens to be on "South Bank"if you use the part of the river at the Main St Bridge as a reference). Yes the river bends and that becomes east but it would probably confuse people more if there was "east bank". Outeast "the east side" is also east of the Main Street Bridge...No book facts here. Just my pov growing up there.
I'm watching this video and moved to Jacksonville about 3 years ago and I love in Paxon. I also drove for Z Trip and I can tell you it's not that bad as long as you mind your business.
Moncrief is an extremely scary place. Lots of overhanging willow trees that haven't been trimmed give it a real eerie effect and basically no police activity the farther you go back into the neighborhoods. Lots of violent crime occurs back there and most of it goes unsolved.
i feel you💀thats my area so i drive through there all the time, mostly at night. recently i been thinking the police got it under watch at night cause i seen them sitting there all night but they eventually leave anyway when they see mfs come out. the police don’t even wanna be up in moncrief they just slide through there just to show they “policing” a high crime rate area jus for show. they don’t gaf
I'm glad u mention that there are poor slum white areas down Jacksonville to Jose because it's always stereotypical that the worst neighborhoods are in the black areas only!😲💬
@@ericgibson5409 Some ppl can't help living in those slum neighborhoods because that's all they grew up to & for financial reasons it's called the Trap!!
@@francescamiller4340 I don't buy that because you go into these hoods you see a lot of blacks with really nice cars and 50 to 60 inch tv's in their homes these things are expensive you have money to spend on cars flatscreens and 200 dollar sneakers but you can't afford to live any where else
@@ericgibson5409 Ok,U have a point it's easier for them to stay there because if they move the more money is spent on Rent & Utilities in a much better neighborhood. However, Most people who live in those places are on Section 8 Public Housing, or HUD Subsidie programs that cover all or most of the rent. That's why their able to get a nice Car & Big screen TV's along with Trapping!
I was bred and born in Jacksonville. Lived in places all over town (aka poverty line), and I've lived in other major cities (NYC, Atlanta & Oakland) but I'm back in Jax now. You hit all the right parts, my dude. Thank you. And there ain't nothin' better than a good BBQ joint in Jax. Jenkins used to be my go to.
Yeah jax hoods can be crazy. Kat Williams put Jax hoods on the map. I use to live in 29th and Case and it has some of the most ratchet people I ever saw.
the only thing i have an issue with is the house prices thing. most houses here and way more expensive than they should be. rent is mega high and most neighborhoods are split between one side is fine and the other would be considered bad. that’s the only thing. otherwise, gr8 vid love seeing my city
The words worst neighborhood is a code word for African American neighborhood in my opinion. The reason this neighborhood is in this condition is because of deindustrialization leading to lack of job opportunities, Redlining which deny mortgages and lead to low property values and very little public or private investment. The people are subjugated and there's a large economic and income inequalities. You referred to a golf course in the video which is east of Moncrief Park it appears to be Brentwood golf course it is only one in that area. It was once segregated by the city of Jacksonville but a Supreme Court case in 1962 changed it to integrated. Thanks to the Brentwood Four who were African American men that sued the city in a Battle for equality.
Hey I'm from Jacksonville FL like your videos. Jacksonville video on point. There are alot of bad areas of town we in Jacksonville called everything south of the river Southside. Or beach area clear it. Up. It's ok here. I moved my family way from here. Too much nonsense in Jacksonville there not enough law enforcement officers in Jacksonville fixed this nonsense in Jacksonville FL. Thanks doc Retzer
@@kevingonfishing6023 just like NY, you wouldnt move into hunts point or bed/stuy. so in jax look at neighborhoods such as 1) fleming 2) ponte vedra 3) south mandarin-ok 4) golf village 5) orange park-ok, and other places some of which are just outside the 904
Explanation for the Eastside/Southside naming history. Most of these areas got their designations before Jax was developed. The area of Arlington/Regency used to be the effective limit of the populated zone before several miles of woods. Then you hit the beaches. Many neighborhoods around the city are like this. Formerly almost independent towns that were inside city limits.
You should have gone to Woodland Acres, then Oakwood Villa Apartments where you can see bullet holes at people's apartment doors. The thing about Duval is you can go from a good to bad hood real quick. The crime rate keeps going up due to everyone moving here now.
For a while when I was stationed at Cecil Field, I lived in the Jacksonville Heights Apartments on 103rd St. I just saw where JSO arrested a bunch of gang members in the neighborhood, and there have been a couple of fires in the apartments.
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS Well stay your silly ass outta bad neighborhoods lol Y'all purposely go to a city worst neighborhood then act like that's the way it is all over the city. .SMH
I moved here to attend classes at UNF and I'm actually loving it here. I've met some really cool and nice people. Crime is everywhere in the world, not just the states
Just like all big cities u got good and bad parts but Jacksonville is cleaning up from the south up. And in 10 years it will be the Mecha of the south watch!
I lived in jax some years back and spent time in all those neighborhoods. Never had an issue. The community protects and looks after eachother. Now if you come over there starting shit well…yea.
The southside is only given that name because they use to be Jacksonville's suburbs before Duval County consolidated in 1967. Thus it became the southside of Jacksonville. Though Arlington is separate from Southside and the border is kinda messy because areas between Atlantic Bvld. and Beach Bvld. could be considered either or. Tbh Jacksonville's southside feels like a completely different city imo.
Arlington is the northeast side. The south side is in the southside . Arlington and the southside are separated by Beach blvd. North of Beach Blvd is Arlington and Beach blvd through Mandrian is the Southside. Once you cross the bridge from Mandarin going to Orange Park you entered the westside. Hope that helps. Southside is south of Downtown on the St John's river essential.
Y'all please excuse the punctuation cuz I'm not about to use them so let's get started the reason why we call Arlington the Southside is because it's on the South Bank of the river a long time ago Jacksonville used to end at the st. Johns River and the rest of the surrounding areas were just a part of Duval County that's also why we call the Eastside the Eastside and why it is smack dab in the middle of the city it was as far east as the city limits were then until they expanded the city to include areas like San Marco Arlington East Arlington Baymeadows Mandarin and the beaches
I'm looking into moving to the Jax area. Watching this to learn more about areas that I should likely just keep out of, especially at night. Where I live now similarly has areas that you just should avoid because of drug and gang activity. I am realistic since I grew up in poorer areas myself and find it funny when people say "Whole City" is a craphole because of these spots. Every city with over 50K people has a hood in the US. I just wanna know where it is so I can stay over here and mind my own business.
I love Jacksonville, Florida❤ I have lived here for 5 years and Jacksonville keeps getting better and better. After living in multiple areas in Jax I have figured it out. Like most large cities there are good areas and bad areas. Jax is a huge massive city land wise. I would say 40% of Jax is low income high, crime, and neglected "Bad" areas. These are near downtown on the Westside, Downtown on the eastside north of stadium, alot of east arlington, near St Nicholas... These areas are lower income or economically disadvantaged. Generally speaking the majority of the entire west side of jacksonville is lower income or lower middle class. Where is the best places to live then? If your family is making near or over 6 figures you would enjoy buying in a middle to upper middle class area you should consider Bartram, Communities in St Johns County, Mandarin, The Beaches Jax Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, Ponte vedra Beach, Generally anything East of 295 beltway toward the beach.
Born in Orlando but lived in Jax most my life. Pretty good rundown, though I would’ve put Mixon or Paxon before Arlington...Arlington’s bad in couple spots, but mostly just run down with petty crime. Moncrief, Golfair Blvd etc are wild AF esp after sundown. All these house listings of $300K+ for homes in Brentwood, skirting Trout River, lol, sh*t is insane. I’m hope our legions of thugs will chase these carpetbagger speculators back to Cortado country, but what‘s gonna happen is those of us living in still somewhat safe working class neighborhoods will be pushed either out of Jax altogether or into the worst hoods.
I know how bad Jacksonville is, I've lived there going on 3 years and it's funny this video mentions Moncrief because I happen to live on Ken Knight Drive North off of Moncrief and it is the worst part of the hood you could ever live in. the dogs and cats on the streets are more Thug than the thugs themselves!
Born and raised 2 blocks from COTTENS BBQ , on Morgana Rd. Live closer to beaches now but still hit up Cottens whenever I can, truly the best. It was about to shut down a few years ago and I was devastated. Growing up in the 80s we'd look forward to Friday night Cottens bbq and Saturday morning Quincys buffet breakfast
😮It's has become a place of dispair. No place is truly safe. The housing market is the best way to tell what neighborhood is what. I live 15 minutes from Jacksonville and over the years the crime is slowly intruding our small town community. From a cop killer to teenagers thinking they thugs and kids loosing life's. It's so sad to watch.
Fruit cove, mandarin, Bartram, julington, ponte vedra, nocatee, world golf(technically it’s st Augustine but might as well be a suburb of Jax), town center is nice also. Also I the west side, of the river oakleaf is one of the nicer areas imo
I lived in jax back in 06-08 def met some good people and had some good times...I always felt like the local government could have made jax a really beautiful city but for some reason they would rather not invest money like other major cities
Jacksonville is a wonderful place as long as your real and treat people with respect you won't have any problem act stupid or disrespectful it's kill or be killed
Never lived in Duval county Florida. But born there old Brewster Hospital. Looking for the St. John River 1957 vintage. Next time visit The city Tallahassee FL. On I-10 west of Jacksonville.
The race baiters will attack me for sure here. I grew up in old Arlington. Went to Arlington jr High and Terry Parker High 1970-73. It was not a bad area, not the rich area but not bad. But as soon as it was taken over by a majority of blacks it was turned into toilet. The sad truth is When blacks moves in the neighborhood turns into a high crime jungle. This is the story throughout the entire country. The problem is not the city it is the people. No matter what one's income is there is no excuse for trashing ones neighborhoods and the crime. There is a significant difference between poor all othher groups neighborhoods and black neighborhoods and that says it all. The question is how much longer are the rest of society going to put up with this.
the reason blacks have those problems in because they are surrounded by racist whites in all directions. I live in Fort Myers Florida and our black areas are not the worst. The worst areas are North Fort Myers ALL WHITE, homelessness and drug addiction run rampant there. Thankfully as the whites OD, the latinos are buying the area out and fixing it. we don't have those problems here, because were not racist bed bug infested hicks like you. in fact, right now the black areas are getting more development that others in our city. and the hatians and jamaicans who are also black, have done great job starting businesses and their children have better stats for education than whites.
I was sorry to hear that Arlington turned into a toilet. I was born and raised in Jacksonville but left in 1977, and have never returned. But I was told by friends who still live there that Arlington went downhill when Dames Point bridge was built that connected North Jacksonville to fort Caroline road. And when the Mathews bridge stopped charging money to cross over, those two things had a big effect in the "population" of Arlington. I've seen Google maps street views of Arlington. Definitely looks ghetto now. Looks like Town & country shopping center is dead. Don't know when that happened. I worked at Iveys in regency square in 1976. Heard that regency is dead. Worked at the army Navy on Merrill road in 1973. Also the Pizza Hut on Merrill. Also went to Terry Parker, would have graduated in 73, but got my GED instead. Sorry to hear what's happened to my old neighborhood.
"Lerp" is coming from that "Jax" sculpture, where The Landing was, that looked like it said "lerp" or "derp".. so that's where this weird "Lerpville" nonsense is coming from, for anyone who was like "wtf?" Like I was lol
I always loved living in Jacksonville. There are some beautiful neighborhoods and some, not so much. I also worked all over Jacksonville. I cannot comment what the neighborhoods were like at night. I worked during the day. Many of my customers, apartment complexes, were in the worst neighborhoods. However, so many of the people living there were kind and never a problem to me. I was a blond white woman, it didn’t matter to me so it didn’t matter to them. It was an unusual juxtaposition some of what were I guess classified as crime ridden and troubled had some of the most beautiful homes. They were old southern homes. Anyway, having lived and worked all over Jacksonville, I loved living there. Ii was given a choice, Tampa, Orlando or Jacksonville, I chose Jacksonville and never regretted it.
Jose you and Katie should offer your services for a fee to be boots on the ground for people who are buying or scouting out land , properties , people need trust worth people for us who live abroad or out of state .
The history of why that golf course is there is actually interesting, and another golf course that used to exist before a neighborhood was built over it ... Hey man I appreciate the ending of the video of you pointing out awareness of different demographics.
10:52 Everything South of the Saint Johns.. between US1 and the Intracoastal Waterway.. is The Southside. Some people also talk about the Southside Blvd., a street within The Southside, so pay attention if they've said "THE Southside" (the area) or "Southside BLVD" (the street). Eastside, I just say "East 1st Street" because its like nothing there, theres no space, because east geographically is the Saint Johns, the Habitat Reserve, and Mayport.
It will come back businesses are moving here and citizens want to bring the city back I've always loved Jacksonville I finally got to move here and I'm going to help change the city I'm a productive member of society I have a business and I will help my community whether you are rich or poor or poverty Struck it we all have to decision for change so let's start changing the world and the community one person at a time it doesn't hit until you personally lose one of your children to crime or violence and then when that happens you completely change no matter if you were the opposite violent or nice person in life when you look through it from the other side you start to see all the broken glass and realize things can be repaired over time people need to realize big cities overcome change like Chicago Detroit New York let's get Jacksonville back on top I love this city and I'm going to work my butt off to make sure that my citizens and people that need my services will have me I'm going to work and rebuild this city as much as I can God Bless America

@@areguapiri That has nothing to do with it. It’s a reference that most people in today’s Jax society use because of the proximity to Southside Blvd. They do so in order to better describe the portion of the city to which they are referring.

Thank you. My son got stationed there. This video is awesome.
check out my last few uploads they are ALL in JAX
I love Jax, I miss living there so much. Great video.
Here are a few things:
1. Jacksonville is the biggest city landwise in continental US (Alaska has larger towns/cities)
2. Jacksonville is the 11th most populated city in the US. 9/23
3. There are plenty of places in Florida that are rough and are very white - Mims, Cocoa Beach, and some parts of Daytona Beach
4. I went to a church in Jacksonville (RCC) that would go to Lackawanna and throw birthday parties, give medical aid, and financial help people in public housing in that area.
Theres nothing to miss its a total shithole, leaving in January and i am so glad
Now Austin has more people leaving than entering the city. The boom bust cycle
Yup!
I would of like to see you show a map and circle these areas. Also, do a video on your favorite restaurants, besides that ones you mentioned.
Appreciate the video but look at all those gorgeous canopy trees!!!! 😍😍😍😍 I love it.
You should do Memphis next, but be careful tho.
Yeah, you are right about springfield area. Main street in within walking distance, restaurants, banks, post office are near by. Houses are expensive.
I'm glad u mention that there are poor slum white areas down Jacksonville to Jose because it's always stereotypical that the worst neighborhoods are in the black areas only!😲💬
They are thats why you don't live in those neighborhoods lol
It's not even that the neighborhoods are that bad it's that everyone outside of Duval is soft as hell

Yeah jax hoods can be crazy. Kat Williams put Jax hoods on the map. I use to live in 29th and Case and it has some of the most ratchet people I ever saw.
I live in jacksonville. You did a good job. Pazallies pizza in st. Augustine on st. George Street is great.
the only thing i have an issue with is the house prices thing. most houses here and way more expensive than they should be. rent is mega high and most neighborhoods are split between one side is fine and the other would be considered bad. that’s the only thing. otherwise, gr8 vid love seeing my city
You are Exactly right about the food. 😋
Nice, list, would you do a list of top 10 worst places in Mississippi?
Where would one even start 😅
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS for some reason UA-cam keeps on deleting my comments on Mississippi
Jackson will be a good place start, I tried to give you link of dangerous areas, but UA-cam won't let me, for some reason.
*There's a sprinkle of menaces in each part of Duval, some are worst than others...*
It has an old school southern vibe
True
My family moved to Jax from Kansas City in 1962. Moncrief Road was the color line well into the 1960s. Jax was a great place to live back then.
Brentwood feels bad that they weren’t recognized 😂
Hey I'm from Jacksonville FL like your videos. Jacksonville video on point. There are alot of bad areas of town we in Jacksonville called everything south of the river Southside. Or beach area clear it. Up. It's ok here. I moved my family way from here. @@thomaskatt4450 what about Market street?
Explanation for the Eastside/Southside naming history.
Most of these areas got their designations before Jax was developed. The area of Arlington/Regency used to be the effective limit of the populated zone before several miles of woods. Then you hit the beaches. Many neighborhoods around the city are like this. Formerly almost independent towns that were inside city limits.
You should have gone to Woodland Acres, then Oakwood Villa Apartments where you can see bullet holes at people's apartment doors. The thing about Duval is you can go from a good to bad hood real quick. The crime rate keeps going up due to everyone moving here now.
on god
Sin city
Man I love those oak trees and the weather looks fantastic 😍😊.
For a while when I was stationed at Cecil Field, I lived in the Jacksonville Heights Apartments on 103rd St. I just saw where JSO arrested a bunch of gang members in the neighborhood, and there have been a couple of fires in the apartments.

I live in Jacksonville, and this was a very fair and honest video. Well done. 👏
When you see a street named "MLK", you can expect a subculture !
And he list ‘mid west’ side? And brings up Springfield as relevant to mid west side?
@@annreba Springfield isn't the midwest side, but it borders it tho.
@@annreba Springfield is the eastside
St John's river one of only 3 Northwords flowing rivers in the world if I'm not mistaken
Good video my brother, please provide the zip codes to avoid thanks and continue with your informative material. Peace..
Come on down, it's not as bad as he states!!!
Try Glenleya Park or Holiday Hills
@@JamesPilkenton-se5cx I ended up moving to St. Augustine. I like it so far.
Arlington 👎🏻
Paxon, Buck block, PYC, Sweetwater, Timuquana, Youngerman
Born and raised 2 blocks from COTTENS BBQ , on Morgana Rd. Live closer to beaches now but still hit up Cottens whenever I can, truly the best. i was there at a cuban place nearby and saw people fighting scary
Cold at the old Greyhound bus station. Vintage 1968 no complaints.
What neighborhoods/communities would anyone suggest on the east side of the St Johns river?
Particularly in the Mayport area and near by
Anything along the coast is nice
Mayport has a lot of run down areas and crime.

Grew up in Arlington…. Love Cottons!
Has it been there in 2008? I must've missed it I worked for the SunS then.
Love my city
"Lerp" is coming from that "Jax" sculpture, where The Landing was, that looked like it said "lerp" or "derp".. so that's where this weird "Lerpville" nonsense is coming from, for anyone who was like "wtf?" Like I was lol
Was there a Bar in The area called "The Green Door Inn" ?

The “southside” area is referred to as that mainly because of Southside Blvd.
The Southside neighborhoods were there long before Southside Boulevard was built.
@@areguapiri That has nothing to do with it. It’s a reference that most people in today’s Jax society use because of the proximity to Southside Blvd. They do so in order to better describe the portion of the city to which they are referring.
