Bruh respond to comments pls... as Rafael mentioned, did u have to change any other parts to lift it 2"? Also, did you use spacers or a full-on lift kit?
Fearless Trailhawk +1 on the skid plates. I’m kind of a newbie to off-roading on anything other than a motorcycle. I took my ‘19 TH off road for the first time last week and got a little too confident in one really rough section and I was really grateful for those skid plates. I never got stuck though😂. I think these need to be an inch or 2 higher from factory. They should’ve put the air suspension on it like they did the Grand Cherokee. I’m thinking about putting a lift on it now that there are some good kits out there for it. Jeep says you can put up to 2 inch lift on it without messing with the warranty.
Just a heads up, few different lift options out there. Look Up Hazard Sky or the "Aussie Lift" for a DIY. Also, Dobinsons makes a full suspension lift. You can fit a 32" tire also with a little pinch weld modding. Also, few options for rock sliders, MOPAR and RRO. These KLs are great, think the overlanding is really their strong suit.
Nice video! I have worked on a few Trailhawks and have been pretty impressed. The electronics on your rear calipers are for the parking brake. Jeep was kind enough to include a menu option on the infotainment system for pad replacement, some manufacturers make you use a scan tool to retract the actuators.
I have a question-I’m getting noise from my rear diff and I’m reading that there’s a single/two speed scenario for the differential? Is this true fox the trail hawk?
The electric brakes serve 3 purposes. It is part of the E-brake. It is part of the stability control to prevent loss of control or vehicle roll over. And lastly it is used for the BLD or brake lock differential. ie traction control.
Yes.... It uses the brakes for torque vectoring and for simulated lock faking out the open diff when the rear isn't locked..... The front has simulated lock also using the brakes to trick the open diff.
Biggest problem with Renegade is “ No Low Range” .. if your looking for something smaller than a wrangler you have to go with either the WK or the KL … for me i Purpose built a Mint one owner ( old lady) 2006 liberty . It has brake lock diffs and share a large portion of the driveline with the TJ and JK… awesome overlander ..👍
I noticed your rear lower control arms are aluminum, on my 2019 trailhawk mine are steel. Never realized they would change something like that in the design. Mine is the 3.2L V6 also.
that system in the rear is for the crawl cruise mode and hill descent as well as other features mentioned below. hill descent just works the break to keep you at a selected low speed while you crawl down a hill. kind of neat
These things are nuts. The ptu (think transfer case) houses the front diff and the front reduction planetary gears. The rear end is a 2 speed with a locker as well, that's how you get 4 low. The 2 speed rear end is there so full 4lo torque won't go through the rear driveline and twist it in half.
Also let's you drive out after losing the rear end. I destroyed the whole rear, literally grenaded into pieces when it found a solid spot in the soup. Pulled out the transfer shaft and cv,s, and drove 80 miles home on FWD... there were a few codes and the dash looked like a Christmas tree but it got home. Now I have probably the world's only set of portals for it so that isn't an issue anymore, neither is 37s and ground clearance, plus the reduction makes the 37s drive like stock tires.
If it's the V6 Trailhawk with the Factory tow package and extra fan on the trans cooler it's factory rated for a towing capacity of 4500 pounds by FCA. It's actually listed on their website and in my manual. I do know the other Trailhawks are indeed 2k lbs. I have towed a 26ft 4600 lb camper with expensive weight distribution equipment, and I can't even feel it behind me at highway speeds. Also, even your Trailhawk rated at 2k lbs can far exceed that amount without doing any damage to the trans or engine regardless of what FCA or people tell you.
Great video of the under body skid plates. I didn't realize those steel plates were so big. That's definitely a lot of protection compared to other SUVs that everyone compares the Trailhawk to - RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forrester etc and why it's so much heavier as well. Now we can all see why it needs that V6 or 2L turbo horsepower.
Just a thought... The electric box on the brakes is for the hill descent mode that comes on the Trailhawk. Could also be the electronic parking brake. Could be both.
Great video. I used to drive a '98 Cherokee until it met its fate in a night time deer collision on the interstate. No time to brake, everything in front of the engine block was gone. But I walked away without a scratch, even the state trooper who arrived at the scene was surprised that I was okay. I was always curious about the underside of the new Cherokees. The redesign might bring me back to the Jeep world. I would definitely go camping, biking, or rural road tripping. If I am correct, all the Cherokees are now made in Belvidere, Illinois.
I pick our new one up on Saturday Dec 8th. Researching everything. Thanks. This is very interesting and coming from someone who appears to know what they are talking about.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I just bought a used one and love it. Enjoyed hearing you talk more about it. I got it for the comfort and piece of mind in western new York winters . Haven't been disappointed yet! No regrets on this one! Thanks again
I had three of these now, two of them Trailhawks. Not great off-road, as their ground clearance isn't very good. Just try and crawl under one to work on something. When I do a lift it'll probably be a Dobinson. Bubba pointed out the exhaust hangs down and he's right. They have 2.5 inch exhaust which seems a bit oversized for the 3.2L, as the 3.6L uses that too. Using 2.0-2.25 inch pipe, deleting the exhaust bellows, goofy low slung hangers, clamp bolt that hangs down, resonator and tucking it all up in the tunnel would help. I can see on mine where that flat bottomed resonator gets jammed up into the driveline when an obstacle exceeds the breakover a little. The heatshield for the front driveline carrier bearing is the perfect mud scoop too. I think I'm going to tackle the exhaust system first. No matter how much lift you have you're always going to get high centered, on the trail, and I don't like the exhaust being the first thing to get hit. A little smaller exhaust pipe should work better for everything besides drag racing. At 75 mph the 3.2l only chugs along at about 2000 rpm with those 4 overdrive gears in the ZF9.
Hey there sir, nice review video of the trailhawk. Can't wait to see just what kind of mods or upgrades you end up doing. Be looking forward to the next video. .
I think the cherokees that come with the towing package have more cooling on them. Trans cooler and I think another rad fan. With the trailer package from factory the v6 is rated to tow up to 5000 lbs.
Sunfish Productions “Trailer Tow Group $795 INCLUDES: 7- and 4-Pin Wiring Harness Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler (The auxiliary transmission oil cooler maintains the transmission at the optimal temperature for it to operate.) Class III Receiver Hitch Trailer Tow Wiring Harness Heavy-Duty Engine Cooling (The heavy-duty engine cooling system is designed to vent excess heat generated by heavy engine use.)”
Great video! I enjoy your behind the scenes type videos. Your perspective is great and add dimension. Excited and a little scared to hear your news! Congrats on the baby! And I'm glad your making videos again always entertaining 👏
Ive only used my Trailhawk 2019 on the beaches of North Carolina, but I never got stuck, even on the deep parts of the Southern Shores part of the outer Banks. Planning on Ocracoke in a few weeks, very excited. By the way, the the 2019 Trailhawk has the most comfortable seats ive ever sat in.
Very sure you where talking about the break lock differential system. My wife has the 2021 version. It’s got a air lift system. Pretty dope if you ask me. Wish my wrangler had half the stuff her hawk has
It's a good fun cleaning all the sand those skid plates accumulate after a drive in soft sand. I have one and it really needs a suspension lift if you go to the beach. It's not high enough and all the underbody scratches the sand.
Perkules mine is installed, just a heads up, alignment is a bitch (mine is the HD springs, might be my alignment issue). But I love the additional height and ride.
Dude, gr8 video, got one of these myself, hint: spray paint the ass end/underneath the muffler & any white inside the wheel wells "black"...you'll see what I mean if you do it, cheers!
I'm interested in one of these for the combination of off-road ability and towing ability (V6=4,500lbs). Not many mid-size SUV's that can tow more than 2,000 lbs. and have good 4x4 abilities.
Not bad! I always wanted to see what is under the Cherokee chassis! And I'm impressed! Not bad! I seen some videos of them off-roading and I always wondered the punishment they take under neath probably is not good! But looks like it could ditch out some punishment! Thanks for sharing! And that's from a jk owner:-)
I’m fairly sure your Trailhawk can do 4,500lbs. My 2019 can do it now that it has a hitch installed and it didn’t come prepped. Pull the build sheet and see if it has the heavy duty components and the fluid coolers.
The 2019 with a 3.2L was rated at 4,500, but everything before that was rated at 2,000. I think these little Jeeps could tow 5k to 6k easily, but there brakes can't stop that weight. The Jeep KL motor, frame, and suspension all do great towing.
I would still check the build sheet. If it shows the upgraded suspension and cooling like the TH has, yours might be rated for 4,500. Doesn’t hurt to look. And you can always get a brake controller if you used the mopar trailer wiring kit.
Thanks! My dealer sticker said #2000, but I am sure its capable of more, however, my overland trailer filled with gear is like 1,000 to 1,500 lbs so no big deal for me. I did use the factory mopar harness though, and thanks for the info.
Just got my wife a 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk and totally love it!I have a 2015 Power wagon and can't believe what this little jeep can do! Almost as bad as as my Ram!! Love the vids You guys work on trucks and where is the shop,I'm in Lake Orion. Keep up the good work!
I have a GC limited in Houston and moving to Montana so I’m looking to buy a GC trail hawk but they’re so pricey. Thinking about the Cherokee trailhawk
I do love my 2017 KL TH. Added MOPAR sliders and upgraded the tires to Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws. Good price, look great, sound fine, and they have superb traction in every condition. Still, going to lift it at some point too and upsize the tires. The extra 3 inches or so of lift will help me get even more places.
Yes more videos. I like build videos with off the shelf parts where it shows all the pros and cons of them. I also like fabrication videos instead of buying off the shelf parts. Yea I know, I want both. LOL But sometimes it's just plan smarter to buy an off the shelf part. I don't mind wheeling videos but that's only in small quantities, I rather do it than watch it.
@JeepinBubba sorry I meant to say when you installed the tow package did you require the other parts as well. Dodge told me I need to upgrade all of parts I listed.
Love your approach to the product.. I am thinking to help my son purchase one. He’s not off roader but needs something to take him camping, fishing in Tennessee & N.C. And this Cherokee. V6 they can tow 4000 LBS .. He may tow 1700lbs trailer and that’s with gear on it.
I would like any modifications you make on the Cherokee trail hawk.we would like to lift it. And was wondering about the exhaust. We have put on a tow hitch to the back. We plan on towing it behind our rv .
Please make that tow hitch install, I want to install one on my 19 trail hawk elite. Have not found one for my year Jeep. I only have jack stands and I want to see if it is possible to do it on my own, so please make that video of hitch install.
I added a Mopar OEM hitch & wiring to my 2019 Trailhawk Elite...dealer installed...paid thru the nose to do it, too. Nearly impossible to find one optioned exactly as I wanted it.
On my 2017 Trailhawk with a V6 Jeep said 2,000lbs, unless you got the factory tow package and 4x4 which takes you to 4,500. They actually offered a lower gear on some tow packages. Now the 2019 Jeep claims 4,500 for any Cherokee with 4x4. However, after towing 1,500 pounds with this Jeep, it had plenty of power but really lacks in the braking department. If you trailer has ebrakes and a antisway system then you might be ok, but be careful out there. Thanks for the comment!
Got myself a 2019 TH in 2L Turbo. Man it's a nice car. Stock it's a solid Overlander. Just wish there was more aftermarket love for it. And of course a Hemi TH 😁
Stormer1092 the Renegade shares the chassis with the Fiat 500X crossover. The KL isn’t a rebadged 500L, the 500L isn’t even available with AWD/4x4. It’s(the KL chassis) very similar to the chassis on the Dodge Dart, the Fiat version of the Dart which is only available over-seas. The Chrysler 200 which is virtually the Dart of course, and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
@@JeepinBubba my Grandparents 2017 Cherokee latitude can pull up to 5000 lb actually its they base model 4x4 no trail hawk no low range no locker just all time electric 4x4 up to 60% power to rear wheels
Where did you get that information, because it is wrong. 2,000lbs for the 4 cylinders and base V6s. Some were equipped with a tow package to push it to a max of 4,500lb. Now you can tow whatever you want, but I am refering to dealer specs.
I DEEPLY REGRET buying my 2020 Cherokees. Learn from my MISTAKES. My 1st 2020 Cherokee was a lemon and my 2nd 2020 Cherokee was not built right and neither Jeep or the selling dealer Bob Poynter Columbus will make it right . BUYER BEWARE do NOT BUY a Cherokee or trust a Jeep dealer. Just Empty Every Pocket is a TRUE acronym.
@@User-cc6cq Cherokee Overland 2016. same thing for me. Disk brake warped after first year. For a 2016 bought in 2017, I had to change to ball joint on the front and I was told by the dealer that the rear knuckle bushing are worn out. And My transmission module is failing. I am able to reset after the oil is warmed up, but its a costly repair. That German transmission had only problems in the jeep product. Although it is use in many other car. I am going back to Toyota Tacoma when they are available. Never buy a Jeep product again.
Yes I build those... And we all feel they should have kept it full duel exhaust all the way thru

What engine type?
Great video. I'm starting to see more and more videos of people enjoying the trails in their Trailhawks and I like it.
I've lifted my KL 2" and added 31" KO2s. Has no issues going over.... anything
Any other modifying to get the 31s on with the lift?
What size KO2s did you toss on?
Did you have to change other parts to lift it 2 inches?
Plan to do the same 🙌🏼. Would’ve went with the wrangler sport but I’m good on the whole death wobble thing.
Bruh respond to comments pls... as Rafael mentioned, did u have to change any other parts to lift it 2"? Also, did you use spacers or a full-on lift kit?
The Cherokee has more American parts than any other rig at 97 percent.
Heck yeah! 🇺🇸🦅
Love my Trailhawk. She's gotten me over some stuff that just simply amazed me (and the wranglers i was following). Also, YAY SKID PLATES!!!!
Fearless Trailhawk +1 on the skid plates. I’m kind of a newbie to off-roading on anything other than a motorcycle. ^This, I just got the hazard sky 2" for myself. Also, MFC brand also now makes the first dealer certified lift for the KL.
When lifted with large tires, these little crossovers are nearly unstoppable.
Except for when the steering rack shits itself at 3mph lol

That's what I was thinking too. That was a bit of new tech to me when I replaced the brakes on my wife's 2016 Edge.

Sounds sweet!
Shkotay D did u do the 3 inch and does it void the warranty? What did u do for shoes on it ??
Yes more videos.
I like build videos with off the shelf parts where it shows all the pros and cons of them.
I also like fabrication videos instead of buying off the shelf parts. Yea I know, I want both. LOL But sometimes it's just plan smarter to buy an off the shelf part.
I don't mind wheeling videos but that's only in small quantities, I rather do it than watch it.
Thanks for the feedback
What do you think about the rear muffler (mouse trap) clearance and strength if you do bump and scrape it?
It looks like a bad location, but I have yet to hit it on anything.
what's up my Alberta bro! do you need a heavy duty alternator, transmission cooler, etc?
I sold this Jeep....
@JeepinBubba sorry I meant to say when you installed the tow package did you require the other parts as well. Dodge told me I need to upgrade all of parts I listed.
Should i buy a 2014 jeep Cherokee trailhawk with a lil over 200k miles?
That's a ton of miles, I'd pass unless it's super cheap
@@JeepinBubba i know thanks
I am considering one of these for overland trips. I hit that subscribe button for you.
They are great for overlanding.
I have a video towing a small camper and it does great. The 4x4 is perfect for a camper/hunter.
Jeepin Bubba ...
Will check it out.. And subscribe.. Thank you
After watching this video I've decided to jump from my Liberty to the Cherokee Trailhawk
Thats a good move
I would like any modifications you make on the Cherokee trail hawk.we would like to lift it. And was wondering about the exhaust. We have put on a tow hitch to the back. We plan on towing it behind our rv .
Send us a email @ info@blackbearoffroad.com and I will get you a quote.
Can You do a grand Cherokee trailhawk underbody video
I would love to but I dont have access to one.
Ok. Your videos are raw. A lot rawer than most. No sugar coat. Straight to point.
Please make that tow hitch install, I want to install one on my 19 trail hawk elite. Have not found one for my year Jeep. I only have jack stands and I want to see if it is possible to do it on my own, so please make that video of hitch install.
Its possibly but the entire rear body panel has to be removed.
I added a Mopar OEM hitch & wiring to my 2019 Trailhawk Elite...dealer installed...paid thru the nose to do it, too. Nearly impossible to find one optioned exactly as I wanted it.
what kind of camera are you using?
I have a 2017 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, all the lights on my transfer case knob went out. not sure what to do.
I'm sorry, I don't know either. You have may have to remove it and look for an led.
Keep up the good work👍
Do you know of any videos on installing a snorkel kit on a 2018 Trailhawk?
I do not
I'm surprised you didn't install some rock rails
At the time of this video, they didn't exist. They would be a great idea for someone riding offroad trails though.
Lockers in rear only, only Wrangler Rubicon has front lockers
False, the trailhawk has front and rear lockers in it
@@JeepinBubbaOEM TH has a rear locker only my friend. The front only has the DBL that mimics a locker.
Dude just picked up my 16 Cherokee Trailhawk with factory tow and get this...... 108,000 miles on it for $14,700. Good idea or no?
Sounds like a good deal to me!!!
Jeepin Bubba I love it man. First jeeep fyi
With the v-6 it can tow 4500lbs.
Congrats welcome to the club, hope you enjoy it. I am sure aftermarket will come around in time.
@@JeepinBubba thanks! Yeah, I'm sure it will. I mean it's still a helluva car stock. Really can't complain.
Does this have the awl suspension option whats the difference?
It's the trailawk, it's like 2" taller
I'm getting poor gas mileage on my 2017 jeep trailhawk.....anyone else having these issues
How poor? How's your maintenance been?
Good video dude
Good intel👍👍👍
Thanks!
Yes parking brake
Pure Michigan...
So WHAT is UNDER this Trailhawk ????????????
in this video a Bubba haha, but in general, a sophisticated all wheel drive system
Cherokee KL are made in Illinois. The KL is a FIAT designed american built vehicle. And HAHAHAHAH on the renegade. Thats just a rebadged fiat 500L
What's going on BubbaI got the hat love it I love the hat thank you very much
All very nice, all ruined by dodgy transfer case's. $$$
It worked great for me
The Jeep Cherokee is the most American made car. Look it up.
It sure is!
I think they can tow like 4000 lb, Ding dong
Depends on the package of the Jeep. 👍
@@JeepinBubba v6 tow. 2 inch reciver package max 5000
That means that the reciver is rated for 5,000 lbs not the vehicle. The brakes and suspension on the cherokee would hate 5,000lbs.
A lost stack of repair receipts lol
anyone having the service shifter issues resolved?
I haven't experinced that yet.
3 years later, he finds out it's actually super easy to lift this rig...
but its not really
Irs tho ruined like every other independent rear suspension 4x4
Yes, but thats the way things are headed.
@@JeepinBubba very true, everything got it now, n i had one n it werent to bad tbh im jusr finding the change hard haha
Sorry to hear this. I put 60k miles on my Cherokee and had zero issues.
I have 2019 & 2020 KL's, both Trailhawks...they are great!
