- Scott provides a OBS scene switcher tutorial explaining three cool methods that will help you easily switch scenes using this youtube streaming software. Conducting live streams can be complex and if you can simplify the manipulation of OBS you need to do it.

The first method explained is the use of hotkeys to switch scenes. OBS Studio provides a comprehensive method to setting this up in settings. The new version of Open Broadcast Studio also allows you to apply hotkeys to individual sources within your scene. This extra level of control allows you to play sound effects during your live streams.
The second technique is using time to automatically switch your scene. This can be super helpful when you have the desire to switch a scene when music comes to an end. You can use this for silent lives if desired. The script used for this method is called the Advanced Scene Switcher. Installation is easy and you can find it at the OBS website.
The third method uses a script that comes pre-installed in OBS and it's called the "Automatic Scene Switcher". This method switches a scene when a specific application on your computer is used. Lets say you were conducting a Photoshop tutorial and you plan to use a web browser and the Photoshop program during your live stream. All you have to to is click the window show those elements and you can set OBS to automatically switch to the correct scene.
The only downside to using the "The Automatic Scene Switcher" is that is it does not function when the "Advanced Scene Switcher" is running. Scott explains how you can quickly deactivate the script so the Automatic Scene Switch works perfectly.

Glad it helped!
I just got some webcams today (theyve been sold out for months!) for a band livestream project Im working on and this is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I just knew you would have a video on it! I cant express how much I appreciate your tutorials, Scott! You are truly a righteous dude and an awesome bro. Love it, man! Thank you so much!
You're super welcome Jason best wishes and good fortune.
Great work, Scott. No nonsense and to the point. Clear and complete directions. Honestly, the best info Ive found so far on OBS. Excellent stuff, dude!
Glad it was helpful! I do my best Jason. Thanks brother.
You're the first result on all my OBS questions. I couldn't get Advanced Scene Switcher to work even though I tried everything. Then you fixed it for me with that scene selection tab. Thanks again.
Glad I could help!
Great video Scott!🔥 I definitely need to step up my livestream for sure...🤔
Yes, Paul. I think you will be surprised how large your community is.
The future of YT is livestreaming.
Thanks Scott for these tutorials on OBS
I really appreciate you explaining this. There are cool things like this that we don’t know are already there👍
Honestly-- I've learned so much in such a short time with all my questions answered, PLUS finding new features I didn't even think were possible. Thanks!

Scott you are awesome! Such a finding! Thank Youuuuu!!!!
Amazing video, taught me everything I needed to know!
Thank you for this informative video. I also watched how you install scene switcher plug in obs as well.
TSSS, Thanks my friend. I love your artwork at your channel. WELL DONE! The channel has a good vibe. Stay strong and keep fighting with it.
thanks for explaining this to us clearly and straight to the point!
Anthony, I was in a car for 8 hours this weekend and one of my thoughts is that I need to make a new video that explains all the new killer features of this plugin. Expect more soon. Thanks brother.
Thank you. Very useful. Please keep creating videos for us.
Thank you, I will
Scott, you are always right on the money. I never new about the Auto Adv Scene Switcher....so cool, and helpful. Thanks for posting!
Wendell, thank you bud! I appreciate you man. Thanks for supporting my work. It means more than you think.
Scott Fichter NP. You have helped me soooo much
It's now 2023 and these tips are largely out of date with the current OBS Scene Switcher version. However, I found this video so helpful when I watched it years earlier, I was truly tempted to backdate my OBS to 1.3.1 just like yours, just so I could still just use the version you show here.
I'm yet to find a UA-camr better than you.
Thank you so much.
Wow, thanks!
Now I can loop this for my UA-cam TV show
Excellent
Thank you Scott. Your my OBS HERO 🥰😋💜💜
Well done! Just what I needed. Thank you. Subscribed.
Outstanding MDWID. Talk to you later.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for.
Glad it was helpful!
Perfect turtorial this is what im looking for
Thanks Mr. Blur. Best wishes.
On my Windows 10 system, I had to move the advanced-scene-switcher.dll to C:\Program Files\obs-studio\obs-plugins\64bit and now Advanced Scene Switcher shows up in my tools, and more exciting, both Advanced Scene Switcher AND Automatic Scene Switcher are working together!
I have copied it there and still nothing in my tools menu. Any ideas?
@@jwmeehan I had the same problem. Check if you have installed the latest version of Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio. That worked for me:
support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
for me the same. Both are working together flawlessly
Cool! I’ll check it out!
Thanks man, super useful
Glad it helped!
Your channel is underrated! Great breakdown!
Thanks brother.
great video. Absolutely love it
Glad you enjoyed it
Great tutorial!
Thanks man.
Informative, dude . . . Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Scott I was just asking somebody about OBS this morning and then I see this video! It’s fate. I’m gonna use it. If I can. I’m trying to find a Chromebook work around. Darn it.
Hey Tony, heads up brother. It the program is a resource hog. You'll need a 5 core CPU. The program does some heavy duty calculations on the fly.
Thanks for the follow up. That will make a big difference. I need to go computer shopping now. I love your blue background in the video here. Nice and comfortable but it’s also sharp and modern at the same time.
Thanks, that was very useful.
Glad to hear it!
Excellent!
Thanks Swagger. Best wishes
Wow thank you sir I learned a lot.
Your welcome! Stay in touch.
Thanks for sharing Scott.. I still hadn't tried to use OBS.. I'm so slow.. Full View Like 19
It's better watching the second time..........awesome!!...got 'er done!
Thanks brother. I appreciate the comment. GETSUM
Nice one dude, I learned a lot. :)
GETSUM!
Awesome!!!
Thanks Cutler Station! Talk to you soon. Wither Away is a great song man.
You helped me so much...!!!
Your super welcome
Hi Scott, very informative as always!
Does the time conditional extended scene change also work with sources?
Since I work with nested scenes I don't want to always have to double them just to turn a source on or off in a scene for example.
I think so. I'll to confirm that.
Great video. Can I setting a stinger for some scenes and a automatic switcher for the end of the intro? I don't want to show a stinger after the intro, because it's a little portion of the intro video logo. I want to go direct to the next scene, but use the stinger for the others scenes.
Nice, I can finally idle while broadcasting!
Yassss..
thank you! helped a lot
Your welcome! Have a great day!
Thanks a lot I learn a lot from your channel. I was wondering if it is possible to assign different mark points to a video, say 4:56, 12:34 etc. and let it jump to this time marks like they do it in sport highlights?
great video this is what i am looking for..for how many days looking for a tutorial like this...
Do you think i should make three different videos with each method with hopes of getting more exposure from UA-cam?
@@ScottFichter yes probably people will love that.even me i love your tutorial than other, honestly ive throw a lots of tutorial until i got yours.
@@ItsbonitaLHOIDZ Thanks! I will dig into it.
@@ScottFichter looking forward to learn more from you. until now im still struggling for the setting since my internet is very slow.
Thank you for this tutorial. Please do you have a tutorial on how you did those animations moving your scenes around the screen?
Edwin, yea man I will make a Camtasia tutorial
Thank you very much.
You are welcome!

Love the tutorials Scott. I added a countdown timer and music intro from one of your tutorials but for some reason it’s stopped working. I can see the volume meter is playing it but you can’t hear it. I’ve tried the monitor output option but still no joy, any ideas?
While on the sound board click the gear > click advanced audio properties > Click monitor and output in the pulldown next to the sound that you can't hear.
Thanks again Scott! I download sources for OBS all the time and sometimes don't see them anywhere, which makes me think it might not be for the Mac or something isn't working properly. . However, I didn't think to look for this in tools. Have a good one!
OBS gives Mac users trouble sometimes. There's got to be a more robust solution for you guys.
@@ScottFichter Yeah, I just did a backup and am having trouble getting it back again. I can only find a PC tut. but it seems extremely similar. Well, I do have the backup I think? LOL.
@@ScottFichter Here it is a year later and I'm trying it again. LOL. It works now. Yes, Exeldro is a legend, but a pull down menu would make it a lot easier. You da man! Scott! Thanks for the Tute! Oops! I was talking about "source switcher" :LOL.
@@49Macman Yo 49! I've been away for a while. I'm catching up on tons of crap right now.
@@ScottFichter Hey Scott my friend! Thanks so much for catching up with me. I'm a school teacher and have been real busy! I will get back into OBS next week or so. Love your tutorials! Looking forward to getting back into the loop and watching your tutorials! You still da man!
I just saw in the tools menu Decklink Output. I have been struggling with a way to have SDI input from cameras at other locations output via Scarlett 18i20 output jacks. I have the sound and video going to a scene with live output but I want to be able to create another display output with sound for the co guest host to listen to while the main host is talking live. So the co host needs a display out and audio from the various stages being videoed. I would like to find drivers for audio output to Scarlett 18i20 I don't have any more slots left for another decklink.
Again as others have said you make some very clean and professional videos. I plan to use OBS as a multi camera TV switching station with graphics and commercials so the advance switching is very helpful when connecting one commercial have another.
Yo Video, I have used OBS for switching but the resolution for me was pretty low. I have moved away form it for now. I still have my three C922 so I'm sure I will set it up again in the future. Honestly I have moved live-streaming to the back burner. I used to do a live show once a week. The work involved was just too much for me to bear. For now I'm sticking with video only. As you can probably guess, video production for me is really time consuming. I'm a perfectionist.
thanks you the man!!!!!
Stay Strong and Keep Fighting Brother!
Is there a way to change to next or previous scene using only de > Right and < left buttons? like in PowerPoint
LOL IT WORKED FOR ME BABY
I’m into how you use your transitions with obs.
Hi Terrence, I use a program called Camtasia.
You really rock
Thanks Senitha. Best wishes to you!
Supporting from Farmall. Thumbs up my new friend! xoxo
Scott where are you? No tutorials for a year… hope you are doing amazing. God bless and thank you for this video 😊
nice video, how do you zoom in and out?
Let's get it on like donkey kong........ I like this guy
luv da personality
Thanks LP!
Great stuff. I know how to switch camera scenes however how do I go back to the original cam? Some reason OBS stays on the second scene and never goes back to the original unless I click on it? Can the scene switcher switch back automatically between the 2?
Are you asking for the capability where you switch the scene and it automatically goes back to the original scene?
Nice Job Sir Good And Great
Thanks for the kind words Lucky. You honor me.
Hey Scott, Awesome video!
I have the latest version of OBS on my Mac and I downloaded the Automatic scene switcher, copied the correct file into the correct path but I cannot get to the Sequencer page that you are referring to. I wonder if I needed to enable something in OBS to recognize the new plug-in?
The OBS update screwed it up. Many are having trouble with it.
@@ScottFichter ugh
can we downgrade? if so, which version will work with this?
Thanks for the Help
But I also want to learn automatic source switcher
Hmmm... an automatic source switcher. Based on time? Let me know.
@@ScottFichter yes that is what i want
@@ScottFichter hey man, i found it you can make video of this here is the link

Love your episodes but I wanted to know if you can make one showing how to make a scene into a source... if you have already please direct me to the right video. Thanks in advance!!
Hey Patrick, this is so easy it's not even funny. Click the plus sign seen under sources (lower left corner) and a popup will show all your available sources. One is called "Scene" select that one. Now you can select a scene as a source. GETSUM
nice instructions....and nice toupee.
Hi,
Your videos are really informative so thought you would help me for one issue which I am facing while recording on OBS.
Issue is - In Source, I have added a) PPT Presentation, b) Chrome Browser and c) File Explorer. While starting recording, it captures only first source in the source list from three but it DOESN'T capture ALL 3 windows when I toggle them between recording. Can you please help - how to record all 3 sources (a+b+c) in full screen size.
Thanks in advance.
Thank’s for this great tutorial! But, don’t you mix up Advanced and auto-Scene Switcher a bit in the video (6:50-7:10)?
Maybe
Great content Scott. I do have a question for you. I have the hot key setup and when I click then scene switches on preview pane and only after I hit the transition button the scene appears on the live stream. How do I skip the preview and go directly to switch scenes on my live stream?
Could the solution be as easy as clicking studio mode in the lower right?
@@ScottFichter thanks and I really appreciate your quick response
Hello Scott just want to ask how to use 2 DSLR Camera in a PC without Switcher... and also want to know your idea on capturing Power Point from other PC to Your OBS. Thanks a lot Bro!
Hi Scott, awesome video as always!
Do you have a tip to turn off a source X-time after it has been turned on? I want my webcam to turn off 30 seconds after I turn it on. Currently I use schene switcher (one schene with webcam and one without) but it'd rather be able to do this while sticking to one schene.
Would a script be able to do this?
Yo Steph, great question. Must this deactivation occur within the source? I ask this because what I would do is duplicate the scene and automatically switch to the second after 30 seconds. When the scene switches to the new one it would NO contain the camera source. Boom! Problem fixed.
@@ScottFichter thanks for the reply! I currently use this method but I need it to stick to one scene yeah. I'll try to mess with this and see if I can use it but let me know if you have a better alternative. I'd really appreciate it
obsproject.com/forum/resources/visibility-timer.638/
Hey Scott! I stream my iracing events using OBS Studio. I have a little 10 second intro video that i would like to play before i go live, and then i have another 10 second credits video if you will after my race is over. I have some hot keys setup to switch to the three scenes. (Intro, Live Race, Credits) I watched your video on the auto scene switcher so after the first 10 seconds it automatically goes to the live screen. my question is this. How do i roll to the credits when i want to stop live stream? Do i just push the designated button for the credits? What are your thoughts?
Wow! Why was this held for review? UA-cam kills me. So you're looking to roll credits at any time in any scene? You don't need the Advanced Scene Switcher for this. Here's what you do. 1) Make a scene containing the text source with a scroll filter. This scene is your rolling credit. 2) Embed the scene into all your other scenes. 3) Setup a show/hide hotkey in settings. The only downside is the text scroll does not always restart at the beginning of the credits list. I think I have a workaround on it, though. If you want a custom video with a shoutout, I will make the tutorial for you, but I can't do it for free. $30 gets the job done.
Hi you make really great videos.
But I wonder what exactly you can use it for.
I don't have any useful ideas.
Hmmm... maybe this is where my videos are weak. I show the tools but I fail to show why they could be important to you.
Hey Scott I’m just wondering if scene switcher works with the new OBS update it was working fine when I had previous version please if you can help that be great as I’m rubbish this this sort of thing
Great video, but I have a question, does the way of turning off the advanced scene switcher also works like that on Windows?? (Of changing the file to .off) ???
Dan, I don't follow you. Can you reply with a time stamp on the video so I can understand your thought on that one?
@@ScottFichter that you said that to be able to use the automatic scene switcher (that comes install in OBS) we need to ''turn off" the advanced scene switcher, and you show how to do it, changing the file of the advanced scene switcher from a .so to a .off on 7:10 so my question is if that way of turning off the file by renaming it to a .off will work in Windows too.because you did it in Mac OS???
Thanks this is helpful. I have Win10 as well and copied the dll to the correct folder but it doesn’t show up in tools. I’m on latest OBS. Still a bug?
Was OBS Running when you added the .dll?
Scott Fichter no. Add the dll. Launch OBS.
Hi, how do you make your image slide and resize while staying in the main video? Thanks.
Is it possible to keep a web cam mic on for other scenes when turning off the view or would I need to add a Mic?
Create one scene with with all the stuff that will always be used and embed that scene into other scenes as a source.
Do you know if there is a way to have it scenes switch based on movement? If not, do you know any software that does this?
Camera movement? For example giving a thumbs up or something similar. OBS is not there yet. Not yet... I have a gut feeling that something like this is coming.
Hi, I just downloaded the automatic scene switcher, but mine doesn't have all the tabs I see in the video, just 'General' and 'Macro' - Did I download the wrong file, or is this one of those Windows users just don't get all the goodies situations?
Hi Scott. You find the best plugins!! I’m a teacher using OBS for my online classes. During class, I like to announce “15 minute break in 10 minutes”. Do you know of a way to display an on screen message at predetermined times? Not looking for a scene changer and I don’t want to do anything to get the message (except set it up). I need a way to tell the system to display a message at 10:15 am or 10:35 am with no user intervention from me. Any ideas? 😊
DeLisa - The crucial part of your request is this part "predetermined times" in other words you're looking for a way to display message one after say 1 minute and message two after 2 minutes. Currently I'm unaware of a script that would do this. I'll dig around. It won't happen quickly. I'm slammed.
@@ScottFichter, no hurry. I've decided to experiment with the Time tab in the Advanced Scene Switcher. If I duplicate my scenes, one for each text messages, I think I can make it work. Hey, gotta love a good workaround!
Hi Scoot, I’m trying to use advenced scene switcher but I’m haven a problem I only can switch scene 1 to 2! If I creat a 3,4 ... scenes OBS don’t put this others on sequence! Can you help me? Regards
I am trying to switch between two live cams in OBS on a timer. can that be done in obs without using python or other extra scripts?
Thank you so much. Can I run OBS on 2018 Mac Mini with i3 processor?
Yes, most likely give it a try. Removing the program is easy if it fails to work out.
@@ScottFichter thank you
Hi,
I'm new to OBS. What I want to do is "Create all my scenes" then have them 1 by 1 run through in a "Live Stream" without me needing to hit hotkeys or interact until the programme I'm sending out is finished. Is there a way to do this. I know I could do a "Pre-recorded" programme and send it to live view but I wanted to know if there is a way as described above. I'm not a gamer.
Thanks
So essentially a slideshow that cycles through your scenes. Hmm. The problem is what happens when you get to the last scene. I'm assuming you'll want it to start at the first scene again. Right?
does the application switch scenes works when we using a dual pc streaming . obs wont be in the same pc as the apps
