As someone who grew up in a trauma filled childhood this song hits me hard. The weird thing is, I’ve never been religious and the ending is what COMPLETELY gut punches me every time. First time I heard this song I had to pull over and bawl my eyes before I could keep driving

I too was hit the very same way only I was younger. I’m a 93 baby and I was probably 8-9 the first time I heard this song. They used to play it on the country station my mum listened to. It broke me every single time I’d hear it.

The lyric about Jesus, a man the little girl knew nothing about, yet recognized him because he was there protecting her the night her parents died is one of the most beautiful endings to a country song I’ve ever heard.

I actually knew this story years before John Michael Montgomery put the song out. My mom told me about it growing up when I was about the age as the girl in the video looks if not a little younger. The story had missing details at the beginning but mind you, she only knew more detail about the ending of the story because- and I cannot verify this since my mother has since passed- she either knew or knew of the adoptive parents and what the little girl said. So when I heard the song I knew where it was going. I love seeing the song being appreciated.

I know you probably wont see this. The song from Martina McBride- Im gonna love you through it is a fantastic song. Warning it will make you cry. My mama passed 8-17-22 an I sang this song to my mama 4days before she past as i was holding her an singing this song to her. We both were crying cause she realized she was dying (complications from a stroke) as she was on hospice an i got the honor to care for her till her last breath

He has a brother that was one half of the country group Montgomery Gentry. One of my favorite songs by them is "Something to be Proud Of" and "Some People Change".
Unfortunately, the other half of the group, Troy Gentry, passed away in a helicopter crash maybe 6-8 or so years ago. Coincidentally on the same day that country artist legend Don Williams passed.

Wow! What a story 😢 Having been a foster carer for 126 children who most had come from those situations… it’s a very real tragedy. Fortunately, there are people out there to pick up the pieces. ❤

Thank you for being a foster parent. I was this little girl and going into foster care was the best thing that ever happened for me. My foster parents were amazing people. Being a foster parent is hard and it’s a lot to take on us children who come very broken, but I would not be the person I am today if two strangers hadn’t welcomed me into their home and taught me what family is supposed to look like. So thank you for everything you do. ❤

This song always makes me tear up. I lost very dear friend to a murder suicide in front of her children. She had done the right thing and sought help from abuse, but he was allowed visitation. She was killed in front of her kids and twins sisters' family. She was one of at least 3 in that small community in a matter of weeks

This song is heartbreaking, but I loved that she got new parents who showed her all the love she wanted and needed. Also, I don't know you personally Luke, but what you said about being a parent is spot on, and I can tell you're a fantastic father!🙂 For a young man, you're pretty wise!😉

He is stereotypical vocally because he was a real country star, he had a chokehold on top 10 country in the early 00’s and late 90’s. I grew up with both metal and country through that time and both were killing it with stories and messages, I will never understand how people can listen to one and not the other and say they’re music fans. This is real, authentic country to me. Not the pop stuff they play now..

I know this is 3 months after the post of this video but I just watched it for the first time. I can relate to what you said afterwards because I also always felt that I was to be the kind of parent who sacrificed for their children. It was modeled to me by my parents. Grew up with 6 brothers and 3 sisters. We didn’t get everything we wanted but our needs were met. Fast forward and I am now 66yo and was diagnosed with non-alcoholic liver disease in 2020. Now my boys (like you I have 2) take care of me. I will say I don’t like that they have to but they are amazing! Don’t know if you will actually read this as it is so long after you posted but I felt that I needed to make the statement.

What you shared was real and true. Now, as a parent and an adult life has so much meaning. I raised only 1 child because I never found the right person to have another child with. My son now has 3 children and I'm a fun Grammie to them. I also look after my Mom after living my father 3 years ago and my 97 year old Grandmother in April this year. Family taking care of family past, present and future..that's what life's about to me. ❤ Much love from Texas! I enjoy your country reactions so much! Thank you!! Driveway by Cody Johnson is worth a reaction sometime please.

Irish and Scottish music have songs with stories. Which makes sense that the people in the appellation mountains started with country because that’s where a lot of Irish and Scottish people went to when we were colonies

    • @nightraver56
      @nightraver56 4 місяці тому +1

Appalachians are primarily Scots-Irish & the Appalachian mountain culture is very shaped by the lowland Scots forced from their homes & settled in Northern Ireland, hated by the Irish & used by the English.
It's a very friendly to newcomers but standoffish culture. You keep your mouth shut about stuff that don't concern you type place.
Martina McBride is another Appalachian in Concrete Angel "the neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights".
I live here now it's some of the most beautiful country in the world, but the dark secrets kept, "some folks listened, some folks talked, but evrrybody looked the other way" if it ain't your business

Wasn't sure if I knew this one just from the title. And then I heard those opening notes and went "well crap." 90s and early 2000s country just hits different. I get hit with so much nostalgia every time you post one of these. This stuff was basically all I listened to growing up. I know you're getting all of your country recs from Judd but there are a few that I have to throw out there anyway. Martina McBride's Independence Day and Concrete Angel are both very much along this line. They are both gutwrenching. Kenny Chesney's Don't Blink and There Goes My Life. I think There Goes My Life will completely destroy you. It's basically your ending monologue on parenthood in song form. And finally The Chick's Travelin Soldier, Goodbye Earl, and Not Ready To Make Nice.

No man if you want a brilliant county song give Craig Morgan a run. Particularly his song
“the father, my son, and the Holy Ghost”
This was a song that wasn’t meant to see the light of day he wrote it after a very traumatic experience in his life as a way to cope. It was only supposed to ever be heard by his family but both them and a friend of his that is also a country singer told him he had to put it out there because people needed to hear this.
If you react to it I recommend the live version at the grand ole opry it’s one of the best live performances I’ve ever heard

I could not remember details (figures, my brain...) so I went and looked it up. This song apparently came out in Y2K. I do remember hearing it but I thought it was older than that for some reason.
I was an adult when this came out but I was not yet a parent. Even not being a parent yet, it still HURT me when I heard the lyrics to this song. DAMN, JMM, what did you DO!? lol
GREAT storytelling! Short, sweet and to the point, no B.S. Just a guitar and a few voices and an AMAZING story to tell.
Great Christian Radio track, although many people would wonder how it could be on Christian Radio with those lyrics...right up until the very end of the song when everything is made clear.
Just WOW. Mind-Blowing and tear-jerking. Goes right along with Concrete Angel by Martina McBride.

You should give a reaction to the Australian children's group, the Wiggles, Castle Of Dromore. While they are geared toward pre-school/kindergarten, they do some Scottish/Irish folk songs. Castle Of Dromore is an old Irish lullaby, originating in the 1800s I believe, the Wiggles celebrate 30 years of performing/hits this year so I think that would be a good tribute to them to check out.

Thank you for saying it’s not just a story. Because it does happen my parents sit and kill each other physically but emotionally they did and they took me and my brother down with them. My brother was a drug attic for many years to cope with it he had I had two boys I sacrifice my life for them. I broke all the chains of abuse. Then I was a drug attic for three years to cope with my shitty marriage and the childhood that I had. But then I found a man who loved me who excepted me know I’m not on drugs anymore. I’m just a good quiet grandma that my grandchildren love and I couldn’t ask for anything more. Thank you.

As an American this song hits hard I was an 80s baby who grew up in the 90s and early 2000's in a small town and seeing it today as a 40 year old, I don't know what the hell happened to my country, especially just in the last 4 years things are soraling withought a break!!!
Exactly as you said, I'm scared for my daughters, who are 6 and 3 who have to live in the new world but I'm trying to do my best to instill how I grew up and give them solid ground to walk on that's all we can do is raise our kids right amidst all the BS going on.
On a lighter note... you have to hear his song Virginia that one will make you smile, and 90s some Chevy , he's got a few written before Rich men North of Richmond too! Oops I meant this one for I want to go home!

It's real for some of us. My parents didn't die in a murder suicide but the rest of the story was my life. My grandparents become my parents at 5 years old. I thank God every day for my grandparents and for my early life. At 36, I know what not to do as a parent and learned from my grandparents how to be a parent. We fostered and adopted a baby girl who was physically abused and neglected. We were foster parents because we took in our son’s friend who was being abused. I got the call at work about this baby girl. My husband panicked, our bio kids were 16 and 12 so we were starting over. This song is eerily similar to our baby girl’s story. She is now 9 years old and the light of our life. She looks so much like our biological daughter that people think I’m “grandma.” Lol, I feel like a grandma trying to keep with her!

I grew up not even knowing my parents really and tried to start a relationship with my mom it kinda worked out but with my dad before i was even 15 years old my dad had attempted to kill me twice. when i was 13 was the second time he tried it was the day before Christmas of all days, im pretty sure he did because i woke my entire body was freezing and felt like pins and needles (only reason i say im pretty sure is from what ive read of people who has died and came back, when a persons soul leaves their body when it returns it feels exactly like that) but someone was watching over me that night. Im 28 years old and i didnt really have much of a childhood, thankfully i got to have a little bit of a childhood but it wasnt very much honestly. Now im 28 years old i go out of my way to make sure that any and every kid has a good time or someone to talk to when everything isnt because i never had anyone to talk to as a kid, to be honest this is the first time that ive told anyone any of these things...

Day 20 of requesting a reaction to the following openings:
Chivalry of a Failed Knight op
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress op
    Darling in the Franxx op
    Kiznaiver op
You could make a multiple op reaction for this. Thank you!

Day 90 of recommending the Beyblade openings.
There are the Japanese ones and the English ones. The English version has one opening for a generation, and that for the 1st and 2nd generation. The 3rd gen has one op for one season. But the Japanese version has multiple ops for a season in any gen. You should definitely check both versions out. I made playlists on my channel, so you don't need to search, cause in those compilations are a few off and not in the correct order. Thanks for checking out!

This song is tragically beautiful. I didn't recognize it by the name, but the first couple of notes and I immediately remembered the whole song.
If you're looking for a song that is on a happier note, I would recommend "He Didn't Have to Be" by Brad Paisley.
