Jesus was there for her in her darkest hour and delivered her to a Christian family so she could know him. I honestly believe this is a happy song.
I consider this to be an Inspirational song - maybe not the happiest but gives you hope and inspiration.

I have always loved this song, but it totally hits different once you get saved. The fact that she knew who Jesus was without ever having been told about him before. Like the song says, she didn't know his name, but she knew HIM because he was there with her at the hardest time in her life. It's just such an amazing song when you really think about it.
But God was holding her the whole time. BEAUTIFUL song.
I have battled depression since my father and daughter passed away, but by the grace of God, I am still here and trying to better myself everyday.

I don’t know if someone has already clarified this or not but Montgomery Gentry did not include John Michael Montgomery. It was Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry who died in a helicopter crash in 2017.
Gentry died but Eddie Montgomery is still alive.

I can tell yall are young because this song was based on emails that were sent out in the 90s. It was a poem and was turned into a song by the writers.

I think you missed the final message of this song. You talked about how she was never told about Jesus and did not know him and did not have him with her while she lived this scary life of hers. But once she went to her new home and was taken to church. She saw a picture of Jesus on the cross and recognized Him. Even though she has never been told about Him, she recognized Him. She said she did not know who He was, but she knew He got off that cross, because He was with her in her old house and He was with her the night that her parents died. Even though no one on this earth introduced her to Jesus, He still showed Himself to her. This song makes my heart sore every single time that I hear it. I don’t think this song was not an actual happening, but it is representative of what can and does happen sometimes. I did hear the testimony of a girl that was abused as a child. Kept locked in a closet, living in filth and barely fed. She too, had never been taught about Jesus, not been church or heard any preaching and singing of hymns. And yet, she sung hymns while locked in that closet. Other siblings would hear her singing in there. She said she knew those songs because she heard them in the closet being sung by people on the ceiling of her closet. She said she thought they were angles. And she loved when they came to visit her.
this is why this is the best channel out there love how you talk about God and being a christian and your not afraid to say it.. This song always brings tears to my eyes cause there are so many kids dealing with this everyday and dont know where to go for comfort

You are correct. As she hid behind the couch, she had not found Jesus but our Lord had found her. He stayed by her side and began His plan for a better life for her. He had given mom I was every chance to come to Him but with free will her dad ended that possibility. God was there all along and took what Satan intended for bad and turned it to good. Hallelujah !
This is such a sad but lovely song. She didn't really know Jesus but she still leaned on him. Jesus never left her side. He said he'd never leave or forsake us. He was there with her. What a powerful song. It's sad but I really like this song.

No, this story actually came out of the dark tunnel into the light of a happier situation. The saddest story is the one told by Jason Michael Carrol in "Allysa Lies". First time I heard it, I cried until I threw up. When I was done puking, I proceeded to stomp a $1000 lap into pieces (and we're talking about a 15 year ago $1000 laptop, LoL)

I grew up with an alcoholic father. It was hard many days. He took it out on my big brother many times. He protected me and took it. Mom got us in church when I was nine. Mom prayed many nights he'd quit drinking. He eventually did. Then after I got out of school he gave his heart to God. He got saved. He became a strong Christian man of God. We lost him 6 yrs ago. I miss him terribly. But I know he made it heaven. Someday I'll see him again. I know momma looks ahead to seeing her love again too. Lost big brother almost 3 yrs ago. Miss him terribly too. But He had time to pray and ask God for forgiveness before he passed away. It puts my mind and heart at ease. This song triggers sad memories,but it's a touching , lovely song.

You need to go back & watch the last part where she saw the picture of Jesus on the Cross on her very first day of Sunday School where her new parents took her. She didn't know His name but she knew Him because He was comforting her behind the couch the night her parents died.

And when they took her to Sunday school she saw a picture of Jesus on the cross and said I know that man he got off,he was was with me behind the couch, holding me the day my parents died. _____ so beautiful, He was there with her in that nightmare comforting her, holding her tight.

I grew up in church, the proverbial " if the doors were open" we were there. At 18, I met someone who taught me the difference between knowing Jesus in my mind and having him in my heart. Our daughters are now in the same place. I pray Proverbs 22: 6 daily. Thank you again for your words of encouragement, you have been blessed to be a blessing 💜

Never know what another persons going through, depression is a mf..taking the cowards way out....I keep holding on and leave it to God to when I am heading home not on my own accord. Your right a lot of ppl wont take that as a good view but it truly is that you will make it through. Don't give up. More than once I should have been sent off to the higher ground but it was not in his plan. I want to let anyone going through hard times that even though the building fell on you there is light, air and hope. God bless you all.

My father married my mother when she was 13yrs old because of his drinking and abuse they were divorced when she was 21yrs old. This is when my Daddy stepped in. My mother was 22yrs old and had 5 kids he was 17 when they met and 18 when they married and were together until he died 57yrs later. He raised us and 4 more that they had together. You hear people talk about their step dad and step brothers and sisters all of the time. There was none of this in our house he was more than a father he was Daddy and we were all brothers and sisters the only steps at our home were at the front porch and the back door.

Sometime in 2019... I had a very abusive relationship. I was on the recieving end of all the abuse. This is going to be really difficult to tell. But my ex boyfriend was so abusive physically, mentally, emotionally and verbally. Every night he would drag me down to the basement and restrain me... then brutally beat me with a whip 😥 while he beat me he would scream such deragotory things at me. The mental abuse... he made me feel worthless and made me question my self worth. He would just randomly get so violent and angry. It was the scariest thing ever. He also one night grabbed me by my throat and slammed me against my mirror so hard that it shattered and the small pieces of the mirror broke against my back cutting my back. This all lasted a year because I was too terrified to leave him on my own and a part of me was hoping he'd change for the better but he nevee did 💔 one of the scary things is something happened to me when I was highschool that caused me to permanently lose my voice so I was mute. While all of it was going on I was praying in my heart for a way out 😭 one night as my ex was trying to kill me by strangling me my payers were answered. My Brother walked in on him trying to kill me and beat my ex up really bad and threw him out of the house. Today I still struggle with that part of my past. Every time I close my eyes I have nightmares about it and I feel like I'm back in that basement being whipped. Sometimes I have phantom pains where randomly I feel like I'm being whipped even though no one is whipping me.
