Wait why was the gauntlet going to the van again lol. Someone still had to do something. Scott takes them back? Lol. And it was Capt marvel taking so WTH lol
@@cmasterson original 'plan' was to use the quantum tunnel in the van to time trave the stones by hand. since, useing the gauntlet for anything would likely kill anyone else. even the hulk. no idea about captain marvel, seemed liek she was doing ok against thanos till he punched her in the face with the strength stone.
I've been watching this entire series the last couple of days and I just realized halfway through this last video that it was made by a channel with less than 10k subs and I just couldn't believe it. The amount of work and passion put in this videos is insane, amazing job.
He earned another one when I sat and watched these and realized how much work and how many years of dedicated care went into this He put effort into it and I respect the hell out that
I watched ALL of this over the course of a few days. I just wanna say that as someone who adores the Marvel Cinematic Universe but was unfortunately living under a rock until 2018 when I started getting into them. I never got to experience the absolute hype train leading up to the avengers, the suspicion that iron man isn’t gonna be good, the bombshell reveal that Bucky is the winter solider, the surprise at how good guardians of the galaxy was, the suspense leading up until infinity war and the tears shed during endgame. I just had no idea. But you have done an outstanding job re-capturing the long journey of the complete M C U and how it evolved over the years. Your immense research is prevalent and it’s clear how passionate you are towards these films as well. Thank you “I love you 3000”
I'm in the same boat as you. I didn't know these movies were connected until BP. It was pretty shocking realizing that BP was somehow related to Avengers, Gotg, Antman?, and Dr Strange???? Binged watched every movie right before Infinity War.
Yeah same here. Seen all in the Theater back in the day. But i wasnt a comicbooknerd and just enjoyed good movies with weird new characters. His analysis of how hardcorefans and nerds received trailers and speculated about plots was so epic and is like a additional plotline for someone who wasnt „in the loop“ during that time
As someone who was very much a superhero nerd and in my early 20s when the first Iron Man came out, I can attest that it's hard to watch stuff like this and not get emotional. Thor was always my favorite hero and they stumbled with him out the gate but stuck the landing in Endgame so hard. It was amazing.
i was sadly born in 2010 so idk if i’m a memer or an ipad kid, but when infinity war came out i was about 8, so i kinda missed all the hype. crazy how all this is still happening and older than like over half of its audience.
Thanks for making this Prime, you're totally right, I completely forgot how it felt to watch these movies for the first time and the marvel hype over the years. Amazing retrospective
Who would sit and watch all four parts of this retrospective????? Me. I would. And I would absolutely love another part covering the rest of phase four. This series was delightful, thanks man!!
His presentation that always makes him sound excited, and how he also points out a lot of the good stuff makes me want to get back into Marvel. Hell I might watch some of the movies I’ve still not seen, and just ignore what everyone else is saying.
That "Avengers!.... Assemble." Will forever give me chills. Every. Single. time. Kevin has some SERIOUS work ahead of him to try and top Infinity Wars/Endgame with the new Avengers movies.
He can't IMHO. All the big boys are gone with only really b/c heroes left. Nothing has grabbed me since Endgame, none. All the superheroes are bland with no standout within them.
That’s part of the problem, you can’t top it. Yet they keep trying to every movie. There’s a reason that scene as well as cap wielding mjolnir and Tony’s sacrifice hit as hard as they do, they were earned. We built these characters for years and when the moment finally happens it feels earned. Now the moments just feel forced because that’s exactly what they are
It’s not even that he can’t top it it’s just y’all have expectations that too high and seem to forget it took 10/11 years of world building before we got to that point
a lot of people are saying it can't be done or expectations are too high but, yeah no. It's the same tired and trite old "superhero fatigue" argument that's been disproven over, and over, and over again. "super hero fatigue" : supposedly exists Spiderverse 1 & 2 & soon to be 3 : exists Spiderman No Way Home : exists "multiverse fatigue" : supposedly exists see : previous "star wars fatigue" : supposedly exists Andor : exists the reality is people don't like shit movies or shows. I never watched the first Captain America, and haven't rewatched any MCU films I can think of. A few months ago I did watch the first Captain America, and it was fucking amazing. Just yesterday I rewatched Civil War, and it was fucking amazing. What people want is good stories, interesting concepts, intriguing characters, etc. Yes, MCU has burned it's good will with many, many, many people, particularly many critics (actual critics, like the kind that make mult-hour full breakdowns of shit to explain why it doesn't work/does work, not the people who give a number and cash a check) but as Andor proved; that doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how "burnt out" people are with a concept, if you write something good it's still fucking good. And if you write something bad it's still fucking bad. People aren't "burnt out" on the MCU, they're "burnt out" on shit MCU. People aren't going to buy a multi-billion dollar drilling rig just to deepen the grand canyon so they can lower their expectations enough to enjoy She-Hulk. Just do your fucking job and write something that doesn't require people to lower their standards.
These videos just randomly ended up in my recommended videos yesterday and I've watched all 4 already. Just gotta say, great work on all of these. This was a real treat to watch.
Watching endgame in theaters was the most unique experience. It was the first time I felt that movie watching was communal. Everyone was cheering and laughing at the same parts. It felt more like live theater honestly.
Please don’t stop making videos. Your views and subscriber count is pitiful compared to the quality of your videos so far. I loved this full retrospective compared to other videos on the same topic. You were VERY thorough and I loved that. Thank you for making this, it was phenomenal.
The fact that Thor still could bring back his hammer, and said "I'm still wrothy" is really speaking. Despite all his faliures, and how low he has fallen, despite his depression and turning into an alcocholic bum. He was still worthy.
The two end credit scenes in Ant-Man and The Wasp gave me such chills when I first saw them. After such a light-hearted movie, it was so hauntingly jarring in the best possible ways
I searched "MCU retrospective" just looking for something to hype me up before seeing Eternals and this is exactly what I was looking for very well made series, I had a lot of fun going down memory lane to where this all started and all the epic moments along the way
We NEED another one of these sometime around the end of this year/start of next year. Just finished watching all 4 over the course of a few days just to relive my excitement for the mcu when Thor 4 left me feeling a bit jaded. Looking forward to watching the next chapter with all the shows that have come out since this video! Man I’m loving these shows.
Yo Robo don't hold back my friend, Thor 4 was a absolute fucking clown world joke. My most long running, loyal, and solid female guest on The MCU'S Bleeding Edge Renee, who happens to be a good friend of mine in real life outside of content creation, and I were talking on the phone a few weeks after we did our review of Thor 4, lol, and we both admitted and agreed that we didn't want to trash the film to the level it deserved and tried to find good things to say about it just out of bias ya know, we didn't want to have to openly slam that shit, and normally I just do, but since it was Thor, an original six Avenger, we soft balled that shit. But no Taika totally wasted Christain Bale in the film.
this retrospective made me remember what made these movies so special to witness. it's inspired me to rewatch the entire franchise in chronological order
Watching this retrospective has helped me understand something. Marvel will never be the same as it was up to Endgame. Change isn't always bad, but the hype that Kevin Feige was able to create is something that will never be replicated to the same extent.
@@Casey_Jomeschange is bad in this case lmao considering what they’ve done everything so far. Also, Kevin fiege was kept in check by the dude who got fired accusations. Kevin is a hack, people give him wayy to much credit.
I'm not gonna lie this retrospective got me emotional at some parts. I feel like marvel has been such a huge part of a lot of people's lives and it's nice to go back and look at the journey.
I'm very spoiled, and just watched all these retrospectives in less than 2 days. Didn't have to wait 😅. I really appreciate the entire presentation. Specifically seeing how things unfolded irl with teasers and releases, and I didn't expect the more current information to be so insightful. Amazing job , thanks for the help passing time
Why does no one ever mentioned the connection Endgame has to the 1st Antman movie? In Antman there is a scene where Hank Pym accuses Howard Stark of stealing Pym Particles, which as it turns out is what Cap took so him and Tony could get back to the future!
@@Aukejorrit Them traveling back to the past created a new timeline. In the timeline of the first ant man they never traveled back to the past. Although apparently the filmmakers themselves couldn’t even agree on how their in universe rules work so contradictions wouldn’t surprise me
The difference between breakdowns, Easter eggs vids, theories, etc. and your video structure breaking down build ups, hype, and anticipation between movies is that even through hours of content on your channel, I thoroughly enjoyed every part of your series! I haven’t felt that sense of reliving the excitement leading up to each movie, trailer, and news story in between since the beginning! I subscribed in the first vid of this series, but this is in the same caliber of high quality ofother high ranking UA-cam channels in the same space. Bravo! And I can’t wait to see more of phase 4 and 5 🙌🏼
When the little girl asks for cheeseburgers at the end I f****** lose it every time... That's Is a very meta reference to how Robert Downey Jr. Got off drugs. It was such a mature omage Delivered from the most innocent place.. a thank you to Robert from the whole franchise.
I think the problem is that this video was made before the second half of phase four. Thor 4, Moon Knight, hawkeye, she-hulk, etc. are not included and I feel like those properties have really degraded the quality of marvel as a brand. I was still optimistic about phase four after watching a show like Loki. After shit like she-hulk and black widow, I am starting to doubt their ability to create anything interesting after endgame.
@@NamaJeff This is true. Wandavision, Loki and Hawkeye were flawed but not bad. They were acceptable. Like Thor 2. They didn't destroy our trust in the MCU like what followed
@@greendaleforever , and the part that really made me mad was when he said fans didn't like it "because there is a woman on the poster." That is complete BS. In the previous parts he mentioned how when Black Widow was introduced the fans were already asking for a solo movie, and how everyone loved Wonder Woman. These two things can't exist at the same time. The entire argument is a straw man fallacy.
This was incredible, absolutely deserves more views you knocked it out of the park Prime. I’ve been watching this series across the last 3-4 days and you’ve kept it so engaging with your commentary, I absolutely love that you narrated with the mindset of the audience at the time of each movie, where you speculated what could happen in each movie. And I thought back even before you mentioned it in the last video about where I was when the Infinity War trailer dropped. I remember so clearly exactly where I was at my community college when it came out, I don’t know if any franchise will ever reach the peaks of the MCU at its best. I can’t see any group at least in this generation rallying around a film franchise as much as people have with this. For me EndGame was the perfect conclusion and I haven’t followed the series nearly as closely as I used to. It was perfect, I cried quite a bit at the end of that movie and it closed a door for me.
36:18 no, it showed Hulk but in the movie it was Hulkbuster which ended up pissing a LOT of people off. Really angered us seeing as how we all felt deceived especially with Endgame
I don't think people review bombed Captain Marvel cause the lead was a woman, those same people loved the first Wonderwoman, they review bombed Captain Marvel because the marketing and comments by Brie Larson around the movie (before and after) made it clear that you were "supposed" to like it because it was a woman and if you didn't it meant you were sexist...regardless of actual ligitimate complaints or critizism of the plot, script, acting or set-pieces of the movie. Don't get me wrong it's a perfectly decent movie, but Carol Danvers doesn't really have any kind of character arc, she's just kind of perfect from the get go (and arrogantly so) and she doesn't have to learn humility or any other kind of self improvement, she just has to realize that she really is the best and it's the Kri that's been holding her back. We like arrogant marvel characters sometimes (Tony Stark, Dr Strange because they have to learn to overcome their flaws and grow into more well balanced individuals (literally the whole point of their two origin stories). In Captain Marvel we're told that no she doesn't have to grow, the rest of the world just needs to accept that she really is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
But... but... that is the point of the movie? She is perfect, but she's been held down by... Kri, men, society, whatever, telling her she isn't good enough to the point where she almost stopped trying. But she broke free, realized she is good enough, perfect even the way she is. As a person who endured pretty serious bullying in young age, this movie resonated with me intensely. My wife also loved it, same as a lot of women and people who went thru hardships and were told they aren't good enough. It may not resonate with everyone, but it did for me and a lot of other people. And saying there isn't a character growth... I don't know, did we watched the same movie?
@@printaboy The issue is a perfect character cannot grow. By saying that its the world around that is problem means that her actions are never critzied. No-one is flawless. No-one. In the movie Captain Marvel is somewhat aggressive, she's somewhat dismissive, she has an aura that other characters, tony stark and stephen strange, were told to humble themselves. There's nothing wrong with a story that is about gaining self-confidence and I'm glad to hear this movie worked for you and friends. But nobody's perfect and we wished that the movie acknowledge that.
@@sentorus67 , on top of it, she's a Superman like character that has an insane power level. If the villain isn't an actual threat, you'd better have a DAMN good internal struggle to make it work. Instead you get... nothing. Sure, she does good in drama films, but this doesn't suit her, especially the comedy. So the wrong casting choice with a script that gives the actor nothing to work with on top of a narrative structure that doesn't allow for growth.
"a small vocal majority" didn't dislike Captain Marvel because a woman was on the cover: they disliked it because the movie tried to artificially create a deus ex machina for endgame, spearheaded by an actor who made her low and distasteful opinions of Marvel fans very clear, all done whilst essentially making the entire MCU about a character who in-universe (on-screen) had never been mentioned or even alluded to "for girl power points". This said, thank you for making these videos. Very informative content.
All of these videos are great. Only thing I will say is Captain Marvel did not get negative reviews because she’s a woman. The movie got it because it genuinely was not that great. She was way overpowered and barely had any difficult conflict. The final fight ended before it started.
4th grade in 2018/2019.......I graduated 2017....just never forget these aren't just movies...there been stories that we've known from the comics for some characters going on almost 80-100 years now
I sat around all day watching these four videos just because of the first thumbnail. U made me laugh u made me cry hell u even made chills run up my spine again for every single movie (mostly for Infinity War and Endgame). U made me get excited and cheer for these movies all over again, and with every happening with Marvel right now u made me remember why I love the MCU. Thank you SO much for this amazing experience once again. Seriously dude u actually made me feel like it was 2008 again. I am literally so excited too see your next MCU video. May the love of Marvel be with us.
Sameee, just chills and all the emotion, i was getting excited if Spiderman would show up or not for a movie years ago. The hype was as real as then... All the emotions 😍
I’m near the end of this final part of your series, nearly 2 years after you posted it, and I wanted to leave my remarks This 4 part documentary is an absolute leviathan of an undertaking to accurately and holistically, yet succinctly recount the events as they unfolded of this culturally imperative period of film media I have steadily lost most of my interest in the MCU as its various titles since the break for COVID have released, but over the course of these 7+ hours you’ve reminded me why I had been so attached to it since 2008 I can only imagine the research that went into this, not to mention the hours sat in front of a microphone. A truly professional job which has had a great impact on this viewer. Needless to say you have earned a subscription. Many thanks for your efforts
I love the series but 1 thing I don’t like about the series is calling the people who don’t like some movies sexist or things like that. For example Captain Marvel had a mix reception and saying that the people who didnt like the movie sexist was kinda douchy.
He didn’t say that everyone who disliked it was sexist. He said there were some people that made reductionist judgements because they let sexist biases influence their judgement of the movie.
@Darkstar-se6wc Ah bless. Scared of strong female characters? Ah bless. What's happened with the MCU isn't because of some female characters- it's been because of poor writing and way too much MCU leading to many falling behind and giving up.
I don't know a single person that thought that the 2nd half of captain marvel was fun at all, how is it fun when you have superheroes that doesn't struggle at all with much of anything
Yeah, it felt like he’s afraid to criticize it. The nick fury eye thing with the dumbass cat is honestly just unacceptable but people like him who just point and laugh at it are the reason why marvel post endgame is full of really awful humor
I'm so incredibly glad that I never saw the movie. Brie's insufferable nature kept me FAR away, plus she said she didn't want white men to see it so I obliged.
I've enjoyed the series so far, but honestly the dismissive side swipes at people who didn't like certain movies is a bit...unnecessary - as if the ONLY reason to not like captain marvel was "me man, me see woman, me no like woman"...kind of excessive
1:32:06 I noticed it several times in the 3rd part, but it seems you are using the “titular character” or “titular villain” to mean the most important character or villian, but the world “titular” refers to characters who are mentioned by name in the title of the film.
Yeah, a good example is "The Wizard of Oz" Not Dorothy, nor her companions, or the wicked witch are the titular characters. Only the wizard they encounter right at the end is the titular character.
I’ve watched your entire retrospective this week and it has been astounding, the effort you put in is evident throughout and I loved every minute of it. I really hope you do a part 5 at the end of this year for the conclusion of Phase 4
just finished binging this whole series. the level of work and attention to detail has blown me away, ive recommended these videos to countless friends begging them to watch so we can geek out about them together. easily in my favorite video essays of all time. with phase four basically done now, i would love to see a part 5 covering everything that has released since!!
Now that there's been "love and thunder", "multiverse of madness", and "no way home". Perhaps a part 5 could be made. Edit: maybe even Shang-chi and Eternals.
They already had told us it was gonna be avengers the kang dynasty....but then Ole dude got fired....so now it's rdj coming back but as doctor doom............
It's actually insane that just bc their is a female lead, u assume that the low score is because of sexist ideas when in reality it had bad writing for captain marvel and not much for stakes, a long with other issues
yea that was dumb of this guy to presume. Also...no way Black Panther deserved best film award nomination, which he should have made clear too lool. Politically correct I guess
I watched the entire series over the last few days and I just want to say thank you. This was a refresher without having to watch them all again . Great job. Can’t wait for the next one.
God this brings back memories. I remember seeing Endgame with my EX boyfriend and his dad. They managed to get the last few tickets for opening night. The seats sucked but we didn’t care. I remember dropping everything I was doing and rushing to the theater and the energy was electric.
Fantastic series, but one nitpick, Mysterio isn't the titular character of Far From Home. Titular would mean that the title of the movie is derived from him.
Just finished them all and holy crap this was genuinely amazing. You definitely don't have the recognition that you more than deserve. Thank you so much for this!
I like to imagine that there’s a buried scene where after Carol rises up in her triumphant flashback, an Air Force recruiter walks out and says, “Remember girls, you can bomb civilians in Kuwait and Iraq just as well as the boys, talk to your local recruiter today.”
I never comment on videos but I just want to say a massive thank you for all parts in this series. You kept me entertained for a whole work day and I know you must've worked hard. Keep it up!!!
I finished the entire series of Marvel retrospect. I need to tell you that you made me live my childhood once again. Not did I just miss the excitement of watching and following a marvel movie but also miss my friends who shared this experience with me. I reached out to everyone and we got together (not for a marvel film, I guess we all agree to the decline of Marvel after endgame). I love your effort in making these videos, and I also want you to continue loving doing this. Thank you!
The MCU pretty much ended at endgame to me. Spider man stands on its own pretty well, but the rest of phase 4 has been mediocre at best to downright bad. I prefer to remember the MCU fondly and enjoy the older movies.
I will say, after watching all 4 of your videos, it made me excited for the MCU again. I wish phase 4 and 5 was as interesting and exciting as the first 3. I remember feeling like every movie was an event. Now, it feels like hard work to watch everything they’ve pumped out in the last 2 years!!! Great videos man!!! I subscribed to your channel.
50:00 - There were legitimate criticisms to the movie more than just "its a woman". This is where the bad writing and feminist agenda really started rearing its ugly head. If they put half as much time into crafting a hero's journey storyline that made her struggle and grow as a chracter, rather than just always trying to shit on men, they might have had a somewhat decent storyline. She did nothing throughout the entire movie to earn anyone's respect. The cat being the reason Nick Fury's eye is the way it is also a massive let down.
I watched this entire series in a single day (at 1.5x speed) and my god it reminded me why I loved marvel so much at one point. After Endgame I kinda gave up on the MCU but this reminds me of how much I enjoyed the build up to that epic conclusion. Incredible video series.
On top of it insulting the people watching (who are fans of the movies) by saying they didn't like it "because it had a woman on the poster." Even though in the previous parts he mentioned how when Black Widow was introduced the fans were already asking for a solo movie, and how everyone loved Wonder Woman. He provided the counterexamples that disproves the idea. I just hate how people had legitimate critiques, but were met with a straw man fallacy of an argument the fans never made, gaslighting, and accusations of sexism... even though many of the people saying the same things weren't men.
Phenomenal breakdown! Love this channel! I’ve seen endgame so many times. But this breakdown made it feel like the first time again. Thank you! Great work here
@@Alexroux78 , amazing character? In the movie she doesn't have any internal struggle or flaws... a Mary Sue. Instead of the hero's journey it is reduced to "I was always awesome, it's just other people were holding me back." That is a terrible narrative structure that doesn't allow for the character to grow and develop, and is a large reason why the character didn't emotionally resonate with audiences. It also doesn't leave much room for the villain if they are not a massive threat that requires growth to defeat. Compare this to how they handled Captain America, another Mary Sue. Instead of having another character use exposition to let the audience know how great a person he was (like they did in Captain Marvel), they used the grenade scene to show qualities like self sacrifice and bravery. Show don't tell is the big rule you have to follow, and SHOWING likable qualities can get the audience to root for the hero. And while the story doesn't leave much room for the villain, going with the over the top Nazi Red Skull with perfect casting is about as good as you can get with a one dimensional villain like that. What is likable about Captain Marvel? What reason other than being the hero gets the audience on her side? All of it is surface level without substance, and I just can't get emotionally invested in a character and their story without that reason. I also don't think it was the best casting choice; sure she's won an academy award but you can't see the acting chops she has in this film AT ALL. Some of that is due to the writing... they didn't give her much to work with especially with dialogue. To me, it just seemed like a bad fit for the role and a script that lacked substance, combined with a narrative structure that doesn't do any favors.
This dude is a huge sjw. Why would you expect anything else? In the last retrospective he spent almost 15 minutes sucking nigger dick about black panther.
Some people give so much flack to Fat Thor and how his friends treated him. They turned his PTSD into comedy, but coming from someone who has been to those same depths I can tell u that when ur that low, in that much pain comedy and self medication maybe the only thing that keeps u going. U either laugh or u cry, and "men" don't cry, and ur best friends are always assholes! That maybe the most genuine portrayal in the whole MCU. I can truthfully say Chris Hemsworth portrayal helped me get through some dark times because of it brutal, funny, but above all genuine portrayal.
This is my first time coming across your channel but I gotta say you knocked it outta the park with these videos and gained me as a subscriber. I started closely following the MCU around when Civil War came out so it was neat to go back and look at the older ones from before that time. These movies have been a huge part of my childhood/teenage years and we’re always super exciting to go see and this video series captured the feeling of the hype again for me. I appreciate the work and I hope you get a large boost of more subscribers soon as you deserve.
One of my favourite channels Now this is I’m up to part 4 of the mcu retrospectives I watched your Harry Potter and Star Wars videos i will complete this mcu stuff then move on to your Lord of the rings videos Great content
While I do love this series, I just have to disagree with your point on Captain Marvel being hated for "a woman bring on the cover". I thought Danvers was a pretty boring, generic character compared to the likes of the original six avengers. Plus, the overall story was pretty bland. Still, I think you need more subs, putting this much work into a series like this.
Same. While I can appreciate the relentless positivity and joy he gets from watching these movies, it's silly to reduce criticism to sexism or racism. Feel free to like that movie, and I'll feel free to strongly disagree, all while not hating women :)
I think a LOT of people can be sexist... Actually a lot of incels never gave good criticism and their criticism was "she's a girl!!!" @@A_Random_Ghost
Dear Prime if Grammer, Thank you so very much for making this documentary. I had forgotten what it was like to grow up with all of that and your video just had me feeling like a kid for 8 hours and I loved every second. Your passion is felt in this video and we can tell you love the content. This is a video I will be showing my kids when they are old enough to watch all the movies
To chalk up Captain Marvel's poor audience score to "people not liking a female lead" is incredibly dishonest and I feel is intentionally dismissive of the warranted criticisms people had with the movie. Brie Larson was incredibly unlikable during the marketing of the movie, arguably being sexist towards her male critics. Some of those same sexist undertones could be felt in the movie itself, where she literally assaults and robs a dude because he asked her to smile.
I kept bracing for the criticism and negativity that came with the later and secondary products and was part way through part 4 before it clicked that there is none... and a the same time I didn't notice because the commentary is accurate and sincere and reminded me why I enjoyed every movie and tv show and don't have to feel stupid for not having bitter complaints. I was not a Marvel fan and had no idea what I was walking into when I saw Iron Man. I was blown away and have enjoyed even the most cheese ball moments since. Thank you for preserving the spirit and enthusiasm for this journey.
In the comics Fury lost his eye saving his squad from a live grenade in war. That would've been a way better backstory and echo back to Captain America jumping on a grenade he thought was live. God I hate the Captain Marvel movie so much
Same boat as you man, I was 4 years old when I saw iron man come out in theaters in 2008 and I thought it was the coolest movie of all time. I bought all the toys, watched all the fan videos on UA-cam, my dad had the iron man in the warehouse as the screensaver, I lived in an iron man mk3 costume for year. I was on board from the beginning and when I saw Avengers 1, I knew that Marvel was only getting started and that we were in for something out of this world. Thank you for bringing back so many memories and I hope your channel gets the attention it deserves.
As someone who watched Avengers Endgame as the first MCU movie ever, I'd say that you've done really great job at sharing what it was like for a fan who was there since day one. Ofc I started watching them in order straight after and tbh, I agree. Endgame is prolly the best one so far. I rewatched it more times than I could remember.
As someone who saw Iron Man in theatres but then never really cared for the rest of the MCU, thanks for making this series. It did a fantastic job of laying it out for an outsider like me _and_ explaining why so many people enjoyed it so much.
Annoyed that you didn't get why Captain Marvel not smiling is an actually fair critique since her cocky smile is pretty iconic to fans of the comics and you've been pretty good at mentioning stuff like that.
Watching these videos was an experience. I was 5 when Iron Man came to theatres and have stayed up to date with the MCU ever since, so these videos have in a way been a somewhat emotional journey through my life. Thank you, prime.
These retrospectives were absolutely amazing. Really brought me back to the great feelings of anticipation for all the movies. I’m sure it took a lot of work, so THANK YOU!
3:55 just starting this last video in the series and started them yesterday. I will be forever grateful that you put in all of this effort and work into these videos. I have been glued to my phone watching them and have enjoyed every single part. Thank you!!! Truly!!! The amount of detail and work that so clearly went into these videos is outstanding and is peak top tier UA-cam content. You are a blessing!!!!!!!!
I just realized when Black Panther says "Clint, give it to me" it's a callback to Civil War when Clint introduced himself and Black Panther said "I don't care".
Listen man I do not think I have ever actually wasted my time in the comments section but I am completely in love with all the retrospectives. Star Wars and marvel were my personal favorites. Your amazing at reminding me exactly how I actually felt going into a lot of these movies/shows. Also very good at covering a lot of information without going way to in depth on every point you make. Just overall amazing and I hope this comment makes it way to you and look forward to starting the transformers series whenever I can clear an entire day haha
It's a decent movie. Good action and twists. Not top tier MCU but just below that. It just became trendy for Incels to hate on it (like the non smiling criticism he pointed out). They basically didn't like what she said so used that to beat down on the movie. Was embarrassing really.
I can’t get over your dedication to detail, the way you bring us back to the thoughts and emotions at the time of these releases, unperturbed by the future we all know they’re heading towards. Felt great to be back in the moment again. Thank you so much for spending your time to bring us such joy
I realize it's been a year since you made this video series, but I really appreciated it. It's just beginning to sink in how huge of a part the MCU has been in my life. So, thank you.
I gotta thank you for these retrospectives. I have completely ignored the MCU since it began, only seeing two of all these movies and none of Harry Potter and Star Wars. These have really helped me gain familiarity with these franchises along with the lore and fandoms surrounding them.
Hey i just found these videos and truly enjoyed watching them to completion. Thank you for that walk down memory lane! I hope you get more exposure with time
The biggest piece of garbage sense Thor 2 was definitely Captain Marvel. The rehashed old tropes, and forced the movie down your throat. Fury losing his eye because of a cat is stupid. The only reason people say they like it is because they don’t want to seem sexist.
Wrong. It's a good movie. You just sound like a snowflake- "forced the movie down your throat"?? 😂😂😂😂 And Fury losing his eye because of a cat was just subversive and funny. You must be great fun at parties.
I can't believe I watched all 4 videos back to back without skipping a SINGLE SECOND! And even going back few seconds multiple times 😂😂😂😂😂😂 WOW! I rarely give likes to youtube videos, and you are one of those rare times. THANK YOU!
I disagree, Captain Marvel was one of the worst MCU movies…NOT the worst but in the bottom 5. Carol Danvers character was boring and underdeveloped. Zero growth or empathy for the character of secondary characters. I don’t see what performance you are seeing?!?!?
Watched all 4 parts over this past week, even listening to it like a podcast while driving. Your narrative was really fun and brought back the excitment and the anticipation of each film. I was one of those people that didn't watch a single trailer or read any articles for Infinity War and Endgame, so it was great to see how Marvel promoted the movies. Thank you for sharing this! Looking forward to the next part!
I hate the fact I stumbled upon this now. I love these so much I simply can't wait to rewatch this in a few years with (hopefully) a few new additions.

I've been watching this entire series the last couple of days and I just realized halfway through this last video that it was made by a channel with less than 10k subs and I just couldn't believe it. The amount of work and passion put in this videos is insane, amazing job.

But you have done an outstanding job re-capturing the long journey of the complete
M C U and how it evolved over the years. Your immense research is prevalent and it’s clear how passionate you are towards these films as well. Thank you
“I love you 3000”
Get some bitches oh my god
Amazing retrospective
true
This guy’s the besta
They were already assembled though
"super hero fatigue" : supposedly exists
Spiderverse 1 & 2 & soon to be 3 : exists
Spiderman No Way Home : exists
"multiverse fatigue" : supposedly exists
see : previous
"star wars fatigue" : supposedly exists
Andor : exists
the reality is people don't like shit movies or shows. Just do your fucking job and write something that doesn't require people to lower their standards.
its really impressive how they managed to bring back Fury's eye so convincingly, CGI has come a long way
😂😂😂
They did a great job with that but 90’s SLJ still looked like a 70 year old man during the running sequences - CGI still needs work.
That was good. That was funny.
You have achieved humor
Hahahahahahaha
These videos just randomly ended up in my recommended videos yesterday and I've watched all 4 already. Just gotta say, great work on all of these. This was a real treat to watch.
I got them 3 days ago and have slowly been watching them... and now at the end of endgame I'm crying again over the characters I have loved
@@zane_sadauskis same! This dude has done a great job of reminding us of the ol' Marvel Magic from the first 3 phases! It was an EPIC ride!
same for me, but its now 2 years later lol
Watching endgame in theaters was the most unique experience. It was the first time I felt that movie watching was communal. Everyone was cheering and laughing at the same parts. It felt more like live theater honestly.
I’ve binged these 4 videos and the end of this episode made me tear up and feel the excitement again. Truly something special.
Please don’t stop making videos. Your views and subscriber count is pitiful compared to the quality of your videos so far. I loved this full retrospective compared to other videos on the same topic. You were VERY thorough and I loved that. Thank you for making this, it was phenomenal.
I agree.
Fr I hope he keeps making content cause this series was great
Really puts be back in the moment and reliving the hype
The fact that Thor still could bring back his hammer, and said "I'm still wrothy" is really speaking. Despite all his faliures, and how low he has fallen, despite his depression and turning into an alcocholic bum. He was still worthy.
The two end credit scenes in Ant-Man and The Wasp gave me such chills when I first saw them. After such a light-hearted movie, it was so hauntingly jarring in the best possible ways
I searched "MCU retrospective" just looking for something to hype me up before seeing Eternals and this is exactly what I was looking for
very well made series, I had a lot of fun going down memory lane to where this all started and all the epic moments along the way
Saaaaaame. Although I watched after a catching up on Marvel.
MCU now sucks so bad compared to the infinity saga
Yeah, this makes Phase 4 look like Phase 2 with the risks but without the payoff.
I'm a year late to this retrospective, but holy shit. This guy made over 8 hours of MCU recap. AND IT'S GREAT! Big props man.
This series of videos is the best retrospective I've seen in a LONG TIME.
I'm very spoiled, and just watched all these retrospectives in less than 2 days. Didn't have to wait 😅. I really appreciate the entire presentation. Specifically seeing how things unfolded irl with teasers and releases, and I didn't expect the more current information to be so insightful. Amazing job , thanks for the help passing time
As someone who as been watching the mcu since iron man came out in 2008 I was 7 I’ve seen every mcu movie in theaters since I loved this series
Why does no one ever mentioned the connection Endgame has to the 1st Antman movie? In Antman there is a scene where Hank Pym accuses Howard Stark of stealing Pym Particles, which as it turns out is what Cap took so him and Tony could get back to the future!
O my!
Not really a connection because that would’ve been a different timeline than the main one
@@texasjoehotdog1838 well they'd be used up so not really right? The cube was returned but did they return the particles?
@@Aukejorrit Them traveling back to the past created a new timeline. In the timeline of the first ant man they never traveled back to the past. Although apparently the filmmakers themselves couldn’t even agree on how their in universe rules work so contradictions wouldn’t surprise me
You just did. 👍
I would love to see Ryan Reynolds as deadpool take over the cameo role of Stan Lee within the mcu movies
Pretty Pleaaaaaaase
Even if I and many others didn't like the movie that much I was at least hoping he'd pop up in Multiverse of madness, can't believe he didn't.
I believe this is happening
This one feels weird. It's basically praising everything the MCU did in Phase 4 regardless of how unexceptional they felt.
And his rankings were shit😂 captain marvel, black panther, first avenger way too high
Especially his praise of Captain Marvel....
I’m not going to lie, I was furious when the cat scratched Fury’s eye out
This was incredible, absolutely deserves more views you knocked it out of the park Prime.

I’m near the end of this final part of your series, nearly 2 years after you posted it, and I wanted to leave my remarks
This 4 part documentary is an absolute leviathan of an undertaking to accurately and holistically, yet succinctly recount the events as they unfolded of this culturally imperative period of film media
I have steadily lost most of my interest in the MCU as its various titles since the break for COVID have released, but over the course of these 7+ hours you’ve reminded me why I had been so attached to it since 2008
I can only imagine the research that went into this, not to mention the hours sat in front of a microphone.
Especially since, with the benefit of hindsight it seems the critics were right about the direction of the MSheU …. Lo, how the mighty are fallen!

I binged all four parts and thoroughly enjoyed them! Looking forward to Part 5!
1:32:06 I noticed it several times in the 3rd part, but it seems you are using the “titular character” or “titular villain” to mean the most important character or villian, but the world “titular” refers to characters who are mentioned by name in the title of the film.
Yeah, a good example is "The Wizard of Oz"
Not Dorothy, nor her companions, or the wicked witch are the titular characters. Only the wizard they encounter right at the end is the titular character.
I’ve watched your entire retrospective this week and it has been astounding, the effort you put in is evident throughout and I loved every minute of it. I really hope you do a part 5 at the end of this year for the conclusion of Phase 4
So part 2 and 3 are not available only to me ?

I watched the whole 4 part in less than 24hrs! The amount of work put into it,I had to come and subscribe. Good job
It's actually insane that just bc their is a female lead, u assume that the low score is because of sexist ideas when in reality it had bad writing for captain marvel and not much for stakes, a long with other issues
Prob just scared to admit that movie and the direction today just sucks smh
yea that was dumb of this guy to presume. Also...no way Black Panther deserved best film award nomination, which he should have made clear too lool. Politically correct I guess
This was an incredibly fun blast through the past that was very well put together! I hope we get a part 5 soon, now that Phase 4 has come to a close!
I've been waiting for this :)
💀
Love this series but he really does gloss over a lot of the criticism these movies received.
I chalk it up to it being mostly his perspectives tho.
This dude was just glazing captain marvel all review, it was a Thor the darkworld at release nothing more never got better like Thor did.
I watched this entire series in a single day (at 1.5x speed) and my god it reminded me why I loved marvel so much at one point. After Endgame I kinda gave up on the MCU but this reminds me of how much I enjoyed the build up to that epic conclusion. Incredible video series.
No way Captain Marvel is ranked that high. That movie is bottom 3 at best. Great video tho!

Love that the algorithm is finally promoting you. You deserve to have a hundred times more subscribers....
I honestly don’t see why any of the Marvel retrospective video don’t have MILLIONS of views. These videos are GREAT!
One of my favourite channels Now this is I’m up to part 4 of the mcu retrospectives I watched your Harry Potter and Star Wars videos i will complete this mcu stuff then move on to your Lord of the rings videos
Great content
While I do love this series, I just have to disagree with your point on Captain Marvel being hated for "a woman bring on the cover". I thought Danvers was a pretty boring, generic character compared to the likes of the original six avengers. Plus, the overall story was pretty bland. Still, I think you need more subs, putting this much work into a series like this.
Agreed
Same.
While I can appreciate the relentless positivity and joy he gets from watching these movies, it's silly to reduce criticism to sexism or racism.
Feel free to like that movie, and I'll feel free to strongly disagree, all while not hating women :)
Yeah, it's not like that many people can be sexist.
I think a LOT of people can be sexist... Actually a lot of incels never gave good criticism and their criticism was "she's a girl!!!" @@A_Random_Ghost
Dear Prime if Grammer,
Thank you so very much for making this documentary.
God I hate the Captain Marvel movie so much
Losing his eye to the "cat" was surprising, funny, and so subversive. Great movie.
I watched all 4 videos in one day and i gotta say it was completely worth it to watch these instead of doing homework
The scene where Peter asks Happy to say something only he would know, breaks my heart. 💔
Your very very generous for capitan marvel. That took some effort.
Phase 4 is pretty much done so we need a part 5 asap!!!
I realize it's been a year since you made this video series, but I really appreciated it. It's just beginning to sink in how huge of a part the MCU has been in my life. So, thank you.
This series is really amazing, it make you relive the hype and ups and down of the mcu
I hope you get more exposure with time
Thanks for this retrospective.
And Fury losing his eye because of a cat was just subversive and funny.
When that shot of Cap holding Thor’s hammer happened, I’ve never heard a theatre that excited and happy.
