- Yes, I am up to my eyeballs in Nerf Elite Jr. blasters, and as it turns out I may not be as big a fan as I thought I was. From very different power levels from blaster to blaster, to massive issues with dart fit and cross compatibility, this Nerf review was not as kind in the end as I thought it would be. The Nerf Elite Jr. Ultimate Starter set with the Cadet and the Scout might have been the ones that worked the best. Honourable mention the look of the Flyer but it has the worst performance. And something really weird happened with the Explorer that Markus sent me, it stopped wanting to fire darts at all. So, hope you enjoy this Nerf unboxing of these Nerf Elite Jr. blasters and it helps you make a decision to buy or not to buy!

Definitely appreciate the quirky humor and up-front honesty. This channel has transcended into a another dimension. It feels like yesterday I found you at 842 subs. Definitely getting some shirts so put me on the waiting list!
Thanks man! Appreciate it! It's always funny to think back to when we would have first seen each other's videos. Just putting my unhealthy ability to hyper focus to the detriment of everything else to good use! haha
@@maritimefoam spoken like a true hobby enthusiast!!! Way to represent!!!
Spring rattle is a feature!
Lol. Oh. Well perfect then!
I'm having the exact same problem with the darts. Sooooooo inconsistent
Made it hard to test, I'm disappointed, I really think it's a neat line.
All the R&D, focus groups, surveys, testing, target marketing and finally in the end; the best thing of all these is the flipping cardboard packaging!?🤦♂️
Well done mothership-geez!
Btw-as usual a killer review.
My explorer still works with dartzone darts (the nerf darts got squished) the plunger has no O-ring so it doesn't have consistent air pressure. My 2 yr old can use it by himself now so that's cool
Yeah, mine was working with chili darts before this review, not sure what happened. My darts also were crushed. The o-ring thing is definitively a big problem.
It’s cool he can play and prime it himself! That’s the only reason I wouldn’t say 100% don’t buy, but… it needs to be for someone who wouldn’t really notice or care if it worked well or not.
Thanks for the honest review, I love the shell designs. Too bad the internals suck, but that was to be expected.
Honestly I expected the numbers to be low, but hoped it would be consistent and well designed for those low numbers.
4 sharts sounds like a bad day. I do appreciate your video and honesty. Thank you. Probably have to get me some of that merch!
Sounds like me the first time I drank prune juice and had way too much...
Haha. That would be! Calendar going out this week, moving really slowed things up. Not a great excuse, still managed to make videos :P
@@maritimefoam i was wondering but didn't want to be greedy or pester you. 😄
@@CRNerf nothing greedy or pestery about asking someone the status of something they said they’d do :P
@@maritimefoam 😄 well, ok then. I'll be watching the mail, anxiously waiting.
Ohhh boy, Coop, Drac, and Walcom are all gonna have a FIELD DAY with this line if they decide to try it...
Obviously other reviewers would have choice words to say about it too, but the ones I mention seem to be among those who've become the most disappointed with Hasbro over the years lol
Haha, I get it. I am new (ish) to the hobby so maybe a little less jaded because I am still in kid in a candy store mode (I'll get there haha, if I had their experience and years into the hobby I would too). I think there is a lot Nerf does the best of anyone... but these blasters certainly aren't it. I look forward to seeing those reviews too! :)
In his review, Drac actually adored the explorer
@@brixbattler5338 yeah, I need to go back and watch it all, I started and something came up, I heard that and I’m surprised ha. I mean, I liked a lot of the concept, but the inconsistencies killed it for me.
@@brixbattler5338 but… if kids like it, I’m not going to be a wiener about it :)
Yeah, my little brother first got into nerf when he was a little bit younger, so it was harder for him to prime most blasters, thankfully kids won’t have to deal with that now, although, the inconsistencies are annoying
7:02 oh wow was not expecting that and was a surprise to me that it’s an official term
I think nerf would make a whole lot more money if they put out some more mega xl blasters.
Welllll, I think Mega XL is kinda on the outs because only hobby people really liked em... and the ammo, as always for new ammo, was so expensive when it came out.
@@maritimefoam I just hope it’s not entirely dead as it’s a really fun ammo type to shoot.
I'd love some new MXL stuff. I'm just glad Rival is still going strong.
@@m00k61 oh same. It’s not what I want; just where it maybe is going :(
I already can imagine this for apocalypse cosplays due to the funky design of the blasters. But man those little cannisters perfect for ammo storage if their big enough.
Wow I just noticed that you got like 4K subs congratulations!
Thank you!
Well that's disappointing to see. Really feels like half of the new lines end up being made for budgetary reasons on Nerf's side, not for the consumer.
Yeah, I was bummed, I like new lines and ideas. What's weird to me is that it feels very non-budget on the shell and design side... just sounds like there is a rattling old spring inside all of them. The ugly is on the inside that's for sure.
Oof, at least you were honest! I also dig the looks, but yeahhhhhhhhhh, if i find one for a buck at goodwill I'll mod it lol
Yup ha.
Crazy they give the Junior series decent triggers. I resent Nerf more and more every day
This is a bit of a bummer really. I really like the look of these blasters. Hope they mod well .
Same. And time will tell!
14:40 "maybe I would recommend buying a jolt or an xshot blaster instead" -Maritime foam
Glad you said that I was supposed to buy the xshot kickback cuz it has recoil and has 80s performance which is really cool hope you review an xshot kickback one day cuz it's really cool.
I should chat about more Xshot stuff for sure!
Yeah@@maritimefoam i don't know if it's been a while since you haven't reviewed some x shot blasters tho but x shot blasters are really affordable such as the kickback which I recommend reviewing it cause it has a unique gimmick and that's why xshot is my favorite line so far.
I have reviewed some in the past for sure! Kick back is a cool one 100%
Yeah it sure is@@maritimefoambut know there are new xshot alternatives for the kickback such as the flux (from the skins series) and the extinct (from the dino attack series) they both had the same function, gimmick, and performance of the kickback with just slightly different designs (such as the extinct which has plastic bayonet that could fold up and down and a 4 dart storage, which has double the capacity from flux and kickback)
@@marknerfandtankvlogs the kickback doesn’t have recoil at least not real recoil
The shell design is good, but needs more power to help function consistently at least. In a perfect world normal nerf blasters should be bumped up in power to match that of the competition and then these could use the 70FPS old standard. Good video as always 👍
I mean these blasters are for toddlers not teenagers so I understand why it’s not so powerful
I got my daughter the Flyer for Christmas, she loves it! She's excited that she can help her older cousins in the next Nerf War when they visit.
I do love hearing that!!! I was dissatisfied with how consistent it was from a review sense, but if a kid is enjoying something they couldn’t before, that’s a win!
This is a good thing. Kids these days have been spoiled by 70 FPS out of the box. They too should experience pestering their parents to bring them to Lowes to find something called a 55 spring they read about on nerfhaven. Then follow up with a trip to an aquarium for some PETG tubing that's the wrong diameter, and settle for ripping out the AR and making some gluedome slugs out of discount foam backer rod and some #8 washers
One of my favourite comments ever, lol. Guessing this is more than fiction haha
man things went south fast
Yup!
Thx for the great review! Conclusion Makes me really sad.. had hope to get some cool Kiddy blasters.. but having seen these in action prevents me from buying another one 😔 .. Hasbro you could have done much better ..
Yeah, me too. You could see me get more and more sad throughout the video lol. A bummer. I am going to work on the one you sent me to make it better!
@@maritimefoam yeah...
Ha okay! I'll try to make something funny without too when I have a idea for it
Oh man, can't wait to thrift those for their shells.
Lol, right? I’m sure they’ll pop up from people not quite knowing what they’re getting :(
I definitely am curious is the 12 rnd revolver mini-rifle Rambler could be modded any, given it's not a smart AR?
I feel like there is a high risk these won't have 0-rings based on the experience of @foam.blasted - but there might be ways to do something for sure. Now I want to flywheel one haha.
I actually really like the shape of them and if they had an actual capacity to speak of I'd honestly use one as a side and maybe even a main should they be upgradeable. I like how they look. They're very cheap space cartoon esque.
Also love the looks. I am going to try and do something to them eventually. As they stand the inconsistencies are just… sad
when are we getting our elite line back :-:
Peace ✌🏽 Thank you for another great review 🙏🏽👊🏽 I was really looking forward to picking up a bunch of Ramblers + Fanny Packs so that we could have some proper Younger Kid Primary Load-outs available at our community games. I’d really be interested in getting some Kid perspectives on the Nerf Jr. Line if you’d ever consider doing a follow up to this review 🤷🏻♂️..?
I mean, I think if a kid is young enough that they are just excited to operate it themselves you could still justify it, but I have a lot of misfires and I know what I’m doing ha.
I might try if my niece is in the mood to Nerf next time I see her haha
@@maritimefoam 🤞🏽Fingers crossed for MaritimeNiece🤞🏽😊💗!!!!!!!
I might grab x2 Ramblers from Target for the Kiddos to test out 🤔I think I have some reward points so at least it won’t be a complete bu$t.
The starter set looks good actually, as in they seem to work just fine. Expensive but worth it if they can actually use it and not just run around making noises.
Well, I’d be all in if they would fire consistently :(
I’m only seven and I can rhyme 😂 A dart zone, nexus and it took less force than a normal blaster
You must be strong at 7, have definitely seen older kids than you struggle. Glad you can though!
Yeah I reviewed one of those blasters I think it was the rambler and I was very disappointed in I understand it to made for little kids but like you said inconsistencies and other stuff like that
Yup, exactly. Slow is fine, it’s supposed to be, but completely random speeds? No thanks.
@@maritimefoam and that's it it has to have at least some consistency not consistently terrible overtime have a nice day
Damn, what a bummer, and besides the blasters look like Larami one on the color and some design aesthetics, just with blue instead of purple. Damn it Nerf, these blasters should have got at least 60-70 fps as well, and the more teen and adult-orientated 80 to 100. Hopefully, these ones will be used more for some prop blasters, those designs are pretty cool.
Yes BUT these blasters are for toddlers not for teenagers and because that toddlers are so weak making it not so powerful was imo the right choice after all the ages for elite jr are 6+ not 8+
@@OutOfIdeas9977 I guess I got to admit I was acostumed to the Larami Nerf ones those shoot a little harder than these ones and they had pressure tanks, I guess in a way times change.
This was fine and all but when are you gonna head back to long form content 😏
I kid I kid! It's both eye opening and saddening to see these perform the way they do. I agree alot with you Tony in regards to performance not mattering much but it matters more on consistency and reliability.
Lol. I’ll just start doing 24 hour live streams haha.
Yup, same page!
Nerf should have stayed away from smart ar stuff in this line, especially knowing the air power is lower than elite toys. Even in well working systems, they need maintainance over time that won't be done (cleaning, not being left outside in the rain, etc), and pretty much only work well with new darts as it is.
Also for younger people, I would argue that Mega darts are more ideal as an ammo type because they're easier to hold and find, but I get that going with stuff running the most common dart is easier for parents to supply.
Do you think there is any fix for the explorer model? We got two for my kids and they love them but they are very inconsistent
I would say the easiest fix is to handpick a pile of darts that work best, and kinda keep those aside for them. Maybe buy some dart zone darts to try, or heck, try some other elite darts. I think the ones that came with the jr. stuff are actually a bad batch.
@@maritimefoam thank you! I ordered some dart zone darts. Fingers crossed
@@justinbmccoy awesome! Yeah I hope they do, if they don’t they might after they are used a bit! So annoying.
Hows the mega XL blaster going?
It’s with my pal Markus in Germany for some final design tweaks! If only we were full time Nerfers haha
Thank you sincerely for asking! Love that people are following along!
@@maritimefoam ah ok, well, I hadn’t seen anything new about it so I thought I might check
@@maritimefoam once you have it completely down you should try selling models of it
From what I’ve heard from one comment the flyer straight up has 60-70 FPS
40’s as far as I’ve seen for mine or elsewhere.
Quite disappointing. At least you’re being honest. For real. I’m an advocate for what the line represents, but if they have issues. That’s truly disappointing.
Same, love the idea, and you know what, some will still get some fun times out of them, but I had way to many problems to recommend them.
Was your 3 year old niece able to prime these? I’m just curious
Haven’t had a chance for her to try them yet :)
They’re reverse plunger right, please tell me they’re reverse plunger just for the lolz
Lol, they aren’t but now I wish they were haha
Well, I mean, maybe some of them are??
Smart ARs continue to suck, 10 years after they were introduced. I suppose I should have expected the Nerf Jr line to have terrible performance. For some reason, I thought there was a chance they'd shoot as hard as regular Elite blasters but use an Ultra-inspired geared priming system to reduce the strength required. If Hasbro still won't replace their garbage Elite darts with the marginally more expensive Accustrikes, of course they weren't going to do anything more than put a weaker spring in the Jr blasters....
The Rambler might actually be decent if it's a revolver (after a spring swap, of course)
There are some smart AR blasters I like, quadrot for example, but I think this proves you need at least decent performance or they become almost useless
@@maritimefoam I wonder if upgrading the spring would help. Being one of the later Zombie Strike blasters, I don't think we ever got the Quadrot. As ugly as the shell is, I've heard a lot of good things about its performance.
TWANG!!! i dont like the sound too
I don't understand what all of the negative feedback is about. These are made for toddlers. Who is going to have a nerf battle with their 5 year old blasting rival rounds? What toddler is going to spend time moving their toys?
Maybe some toddlers don't mind getting hit in the face with 80 fps foam , but we understand those are future boxing champions 😂
I dunno if you mean my negative feedback or others? I have said a bunch of times I like that they are slower and think it's an awesome idea. What I don't like is that half the time the darts don't make it out of the barrels and they are super inconsistent even for a really little kid for fun.
If I have a kid that’s in the recommended age range for these, I WOULD NOT buy this for my kid because I don’t want to stick with it till said kid is an adult,
Yeah, I foresee a lot of these at value Villiage and goodwill…
@@maritimefoamif I ever receive one I'm either modding it to be A LOT better or I'm using it for parts😋
A strongarm would do the job with better quality i dont understand why this exists
This is a copy paste because I’ve answered this a lot, but “The whole point is to have ergonomics for small kids or maybe kids with disabilities to make it easier for them to operate blasters. I have seen kids struggle with regular old nerf blasters. It’s a good idea for a line in theory, if it was executed better. Though many would have no interest. I’m interested because I run games and parties.”
Is it just me or does this entire concept seem concept of this seem sort of redundant? I mean, surely any young nerfer is just going to get a Fortnite blaster
I talk about this a bunch but not really, as the whole point is to have ergonomics for small kids or maybe kids with disabilities to make it easier for them to operate blasters. I have seen kids struggle with regular old nerf blasters. It’s a good idea for a line in theory, if it was executed better. Though many would have no interest. I’m interested because I run games and parties.
Really not needed, anything not RIVAL is ok for kids any age as long as your not modding your shit
Respectfully disagree, there are kids too young to operate regular Nerf blasters, from an age side and from a disability or motor control side (I've ran a lot of games for kids), this COULD have been valuable as an option.
Would you recommend these as a first Nerf gun for a younger child? We've tried Nerf guns from older relatives but they're a bit difficult for my son to prime
The nerf elite jr. Line, despite some issues, is a good option, just avoid the explorer. The flyer is really cute.
