Cheers - The Guys Play Monopoly

- I edited these clips together from the 8.10 episode "The Art of the Steal". It involves Woody, Norm, Frasier and Cliff playing Monopoly.
Obviously, NBC/Universal & Paramount own the copyright for this footage. I am not trying to profit from this as I'm posting it because, well, Cheers is awesome.
I work for the railroad. I once hit a house trailer that was being towed and got stuck. When the train dispatcher asked where I was, I said in the kitchen.
With Dinah?
Hysterical
Best joke this month :)
Hell, who's playin' that gosh darned banjo?
Love how this is a perfect representation of any family playing Monopoly. Argue over who does what, who gets what piece and so forth. It’s like no one reads the manual which is probably why I hated playing with my family so much.
Right up til the end, Cheers was a fantastic show that never jumped the shark.
Agreed. I wonder if it would have if Sam and Diane had married? I suppose Shelley Long had to leave, because the dynamic of the show did not support Sam being in a healthy relationship.... It just isn't funny not was this that kind of show
For me Cheers was something that got progressively better. Ironically the exact opposite of Frasier which started really strong but got weaker overall as it went on.
I'll hand it to Frasier, that racecar impression was impressive.
I do miss this show, every Thursday night. Sometimes some friends would get together cook eat, drink and watch Cheers! That was the early 80's, I just came back from serving a year in Korea "vet" and this show was on! Damn that was 36 years ago.
40 now. :)
Oh god I almost died laughing when Cliff weighed into the argument to go 'Now look you can argue all you want but I'm not playing unless I'm the thimble' genius
Boy, Cliff would be upset if he got the new versions o Monolopy. Lol. Bye Thimble
Reminds me of times when me and 3 of my friends played Monopoly. I have a special 1985 edition at home, which has wooden houses and special gilded game pieces, and we always played with agreement that I as the owner of the game had the locomotive, and the others chose whatever they wanted. Typically they chose the race car, the battleship and the boot.
Let's say we had some marvellous times together playing that game.
@@Luckiestof13 I'm mad since they took away the cannon.
Still my go to show for laughs and even though it was sad when Coach died, Woody became equally good in the role. RIP days of good, non-raunchy comedy shows!
This was mild to moderately risque, at best.
RIP days of shows that could actually be funny without OffEnDiNg everyone!!!
Haha this is hilarious! That scene when Frasier rolls the plush dice always cracks me up
Luke Jones i find myself rewinding that part over and over.
So comical xD Love it.
"Well then, bravo." Haha
This show had some of the best writing ever for a tv series. And it ran for 11 years without a loosing its strength in writing.
From the very beginning to the very end too. One of the funniest moments was the second last episode when Diane was on the TV and Frasier was the 1st person to recognize her voice...just him popping his head up like he had just heard a ghost. Gold.
The sitcoms now as so lame that they run promos with lame predictable jokes and expect to impress.
Lose, not loose. Losing, not loosing.
@@MrEdwardCollins thank you dude.
Or its spelling
Timeless comedy and still as funny 30 odd years later.
Woody's stories about his family back home were always hilarious. His naive nature gave him a childishly optimistic outlook on life.
Did I ever tell you about my uncle back in Hanover?
@@notsosilentbob before I die I must see this town..."NORM"
Like Rose in Golden Girls talking about St. Olaf lol
Reminds me of Rose on The Golden Girls and her stor about St. Olaff
It’s funny because this is how every monopoly game starts. Everybody has their special item
The actual sets from Cheers and Frasier are now owned and archived by James Comisar. He is the president and founder of The Museum of Television. His collection includes the All in the Family living room, Frank Gorshin's Riddler costume, Andy Griffith and Barney Fife costumes, Skipper and Gilligan's hats, Walter White's Breaking Bad Meth Lab, Buffalo Bob and Howdy Doody shirts, the I Dream of Jeannie bottle, and Johnny Carson's Tonight Show set.

Cheers & Night Court back to back on Thursday nights on NBC. Right as Night Court was ending, my mom's key hit the door after arriving home from bingo and my butt hit the bed!
Are they in a museum or anything?
He could have had the old Merv Griffin set, it was in the dumpster outside of Kramer's building at one time.
@@ss_whole nice
Love Woody's story about his uncle putting up a fake house on railroad tracks.
I don’t get that joke, can anyone explain it?
@@huntercopeland9371 I'm assuming this comment is sarcasm.
@@huntercopeland9371 I, too, feel your comment must be some sort of joke in itself, but on the off chance you actually want an explanation, here it is:
Woody told his story about his uncle's prank and how he used to hide and take pictures of the conductors' reactions, which is a pretty twisted thing to do, but it got a chuckle from the guys. But then Woody said, "Yeah, but then he had a twisted side...." And that's the punchline.
Gateway into the roles Woody would later play. 😂
One of the funniest shows ever seen on tv. The show ran for 11 years and never diminished in its quality. That is so rare. The only others shows I can think of that achieved such a feet were M.A.S.H & the Cheers spinoff Frasier
+Lisa Edwards "feat" :)
+otocan lol thanks. :)
No problem!
What about married with children
Did the writers go on strike at some point? I vaguely remember that- it was a long time ago! But yes, a very funny show overall. : )
This is legit how every Monopoly game ends up going when guys play it 😂
Cheers is in my top 5 sitcoms of all time
Miss this show badly, a classic for the ages.
It's on Pluto tv
Every member of the Cast of Cheers added a lot to the show.
So well written and timed.
The giant purple foam dice just killed me. LMAO
cheers has always brighten my day.
I miss the days when you can play a whole game of monopoly during your work shift with zero consequences
oh there's still plenty of pointless useless jobs that exist lol
At least he was in the bar. They only had four employees & there were plenty of times three were elsewhere leaving only one person to work the whole bar alone. I'm sure we can find scenes with all four outside the bar during what should be business hours.
God i loved this show.
Just class.
Love you cheers from England UK 🇬🇧
Paramount, which produced Cheers, later adapted two other Hasbro properties, Transformers and GI Joe, to film.
I use to watch cheers as. Kid with my grandpa in the late 80z an early 90s he liked Sam mayday Malone good memories gonna buy cheers on dvd soon
"How well do you do this....vrrooom vrooooomm!!!" haha
2:08 seeing Frasier roll the plush dice gets me every time xD
2020 in the middle of covid and Cheers still makes me laugh.
It's been 2021 for 5 days now.
@@bossfan49 been laughing for 5 days 😉
2024 and now we know that COVID was the REAL joke!!!
Okay, I was not expecting those fuzzy dice at 1:32. I have to watch more of this show!
It was on Netflix, but they took it off, but Crave TV 📺 on demand does have all 11 seasons of Frasier, though.
hulu has it. Pretty sure cbs all access does as well.
Five dollars, saint james place and this stupid picture of uncle wiggly.
I had to look up Uncle Wiggly. I had no idea who he was.
Monopoly teaches that in order to win, cheat.
but cheaters aren't winners~
@@uncovidvaxxforthestrongand3582 but they think they are.
@argusone go back and watch TV you idiot.
@argusone get the fuck over yourself weirdo. now you have to deal with the author of the 1994 crime bill and heels up harris, the prosecutor who jailed thousands of black men for prison labor.
But sure...you're changing the world with your monopoly on not so clever youtube comments.
@argusone Something tells me your psychiatrist loves you.
Poor Norm.. He got screwed out of being the banker.. AND got screwed out of being the race car!
They start arguing like me and my friends did when we were kids playing Monopoly. Hilarious!
I'm surprised Norm got off his stool 😅😂
lmfao, "Candyland children"
I love how for all of Fraiser's education, he's still a "guy" when it comes right down to it... making the "vroom vroom" sound 😂😂
Frasier's race car sounds really cracks me up
I would accept Kelsey Grammar as Doc Brown if there ever was a Back to the Future reboot.
I second this
😮 Good choice
You want to be where you can see
Our troubles are all the same
You want to be where everybody knows your name
I'm introverted, I always want to be where nobody knows my name.
This is why we never play monopoly at my house. Everyone just ends up fighting.
Risk? ;)
brings a family closer together .. ha
That's the point. It was invented to do just this. The creator lost his shirt in the Crash of 29 and wanted to demonstrate the awfulness of capitalism at a small scale. So if you wind up 5 hours later at each other's throats and the banker has all the money...Worker's of the world unite!
In my family you got looked down on if you didn't try and cheat at either Monopoly or Risk. And yes, we all cheated as much as possible.
That's why the original Monopoly didn't have a lead pipe.
I'm always the Race Car and The Banker. Funny as heck stuff!
I love cheers as i wish my local was like this
Oh boy, I was watching Cheers back in college when I was majoring in English a few years ago.
That long ago, huh?
2016 and still laughing. Thank You!
If you close your eyes and listen to Frasier rant at the end it is impossible to not picture Side Show Bob!
Great show
Rule number 13 on the cover of the box of the monopoly game is the quintessential reason why the feds exist
great show, a bar with people drinking and talking!!!!!! great idea
he chit it lasted for over 10 years so it must have been pretty good.
It was all about the chemistry in this show. The premise was simple and hilarious.
tubenachos the show remained popular right up until the end. It's final episode was one of the highest rated television events of all time & was the second highest rated final episode of all time. Second behind the finale of mash.
this coming from someone who probably never misses a episode of big brother.why you on here if you don't like the show
they don't make shows like this anymore
A fine lesson in economics
My old man always called dibs on the wheelbarrow. He claimed it was so he could tote all his money around.
"... oh well then, bravo."
Everybody always wants to be the race car.
I just can’t imagine a young Frasier and Niles playing Monopoly. But definitely can imagine them fighting over something like it. Lol.
Yeah, that’s pretty much economics in a nutshell
Awesome episode
monopoly breaks friendship and i love it.
"I am always the race car." lol
Cool socks on Cliff *lol*
One of my favorite gags in Monopoly is, early in the game, someone lands on their own property and I tell them "That's $20.00" or whatever. They pay me rent for landing on their own property. Doesn't always work, and maybe only get away with it a couple times, but it rocks!
Would never work in my house where the deed card must be shown each time rent is asked for.
Imagine Cheers never making it Into our lives, it nearly didn’t, after the first few showings it rated so low on the public poll & was slated by every critic.
That fuzzy dice got me. Loll
...while I sit here with $5, St. James Place, and this stupid picture of Uncle Wiggily!" He just described everything I have in my wallet.
i love the part when woody got the part playing basketball in the movie (white man can't jump along with Wesley snips) it was so cool and that is one movie I have not yet seen on Blu ra.
The last good times, the late 80s early 90s. These times are totally dark forgettable miserable times
Trump was found guilty. That brightened America considerably. Now just need to lock him up. There’s still hope in this world.
enjoy your stay at boyds on boardwalk
This should be shown in each and every college business economics classes.
This alone is the only curriculum needed.
Three minutes and you get an A.
NEXT!
_Prove it Peterson!_
LOOOOOOL i love this
I hate monopoly but playing it in a bar seems like a damn good time
As long as you’re finished by, oh, about Thursday.
I like Monopoly, yeah I suck at it, though I find it truly depends with you your playing with, just like original Battleship. Someone could be a cheater.
Evening,Everybody.
Norm Peterson Norman.
Norm Peterson NORM!
What's shakin' Mr. Peterson?
@@rockoperajon What ISN"T, Woody?!
A fake house on the train tracks is hilarious
It's all fun and games until the next depression.
Norm laughing for real when Cliff says he's the thimble
You really don't understand how acting works, do you?
I was always the thimble wearing the cowboy hat 🤠
Never liked it at the time, guess I was too young.
This quite funny, actually.
That's how I felt about Seinfeld.
I never got into MASH, probably for the same reason.
Loved the hell out of Cheers though.
@@Redfoot138 I was never able to find MASH funny even to this day, just don't care for that era of sitcom humor.
@@BagofRoastedNuts Seinfeld was a show literally about nothing. It is not even remotely in the same league as Cheers.
You were not the target audiance. Now you are.
Airdate: November 30, 1989
You have to watch the banker when you play, they may give out loans to mortgage lenders that they know people won't be able to afford eventually.
Frasier's, Norm's and Cliff's facial reaction after hearing Woody's story. @1:57😆😆😆😆
Uncle Jim must have written this bit from his twisted side.
Economic 101🤣🤣🤣
It's sad that people these days will never enjoy anything like these masterpieces from the 80's. All they have now is crappy television and even crappier music.
IMO, the success of the show's longevity was they that added memorable characters and when cast members left, they replaced him or her with at least another good character.
Woody didn't think his uncle building a house on a railroad track was twisted Ha Ha Ha.
That reminds me of the scene in Wayne's World donut shop where the guy is complaining about getting laid off from work and Ed O'Neil says-- I know you wanna find the guy that did it, and rip his still beating heart out, etc....
The other guys say...Actually, I was just file a grievance with the union.
and Ed replies- Yeah, well..the world's a twisted place.
Oh well then bravo! Classic.
Economics in a nutshell.
He had a twisted side
Norm's reaction at 2:30 cracks me up
Late night after hours the gang plays a board game that is missing a lot of peices so they improvise...making up the rules as they go...Burrows was a genius comedy writer.. along with the cast and others behind the scenes ad libing into the production of the show.
Lost it at the fuzzy dice
I have to be the spartan helmet & I yell "I AM SPARTACUS"
Haven't lost a game in 6 years in my house and we all cheat
Well, then. Bravo
Those dice😂
I wouldn't want the show rebooted but would love to see the original cast reprise their roles for just one more time.
Cliff the best
I love Cheers but probably cause im from Boston......
+Nick F NAAAAAAAAAAAAAHM PETERSAAAAAAAHN
+Nick F I loved watching Cheers growing up in England :)
I can't wait to visit Boston just to have a drink at Cheers!
You don't have to live in Boston to appreciate Cheers. I'm from AZ and I love Cheers
you'll never be faahw from the bahww
Classic tv 📺
My Grandma had an Uncle Wiggily game.
Very accurate.
Banks tricked everyone into believing Credit Scores prove how good you are with your money, when it is actually a score of how profitable you are to banks.
