There’s a finished third Minecraft album that c418 intended to release but he couldn’t come to an agreement with Microsoft on who should own the masters for it, now he legally can’t release it due to issues with Mojang despite being the original composer. It’s sad as hell because it’s rumoured to be longer then both Alpha and Beta combined (over 3 hours) and would be “more ambient then ever” but due to Microsoft’s greed as a company it’s now locked in the vault for the foreseeable future, but I hope we one day get to hear it
I hope to hear this some day…

Petition for volume beta listen through. Whilst alpha has the iconic classics, beta is a more daring, ambitious record and I believe to be the superior record. Oh yeah, it’s also way longer so more peak music for a longer duration

if you like volume alpha, volume beta builds on its stronger elements and i would really recommend listening to it. it has more orchestral and atmospheric ambient qualities that embody the brilliance in c418's work, especially in the nether tracks and the longer compositions not used in the game
Yesss
It’s a lot weirder than alpha and I kinda love it for that

aria math is my favorite song of all time
Don’t know if anyone mentioned this but one of the really brilliant things about this soundtrack is that in-game they don’t play in this order, one right after the other, or even based on season or milestone (like Stardew Valley or something). They just kinda fade in and out. Obviously the album is fantastic, but having the right song for the mood start playing completely by chance during gameplay makes it that much better
By itself it's a 9/10, but this in Minecraft is an 11/10, I don't think there is another video game soundtrack better suited for its game than this and Minecraft.
the craziest thing is that if you showed Minecraft and its OST to somebody that's never seen or heard them, they would've never expected them to be connected.
It’s really one of the best video game OSTs of all time in my opinion, and I listen to a LOT of video game OSTs. Easily in my top 3.
In my opinion Minecraft and undertale are one of the top one
I don’t care that nostalgia shouldn’t be a factor when rating music. This is about as nostalgic as it gets. So many memories. So much growing up. Reminds me of the peaceful aspects of my childhood

I mean, some of the best composers today work in videogame music. The videogame industry is absurdly gigantic and a lot of the new talent since the popularisation of videogames work on them.
I completely get why is such a weirdly close minded thing for people to only listen to videogame OSTs and no other music, but it's just as close minded to just belittle it just for being from videogames.
When the strings come in on Moog city I get chills pretty much every time
@@wumbojet I mean you see a lot of metal musicians like Trent Reznor, Serj Tankian, Matt Heafy, etc. work on videogame music
@@wumbojet ^
you said it exactly right about people only listening to videogame OSTs and no other music as close minded. The amount of fans of certain games call this like say New Jack Swing "Sonic CD music" is just telling and cringe. Maybe it's just me, but I just get tired of hearing the same track from a known game over n over again, as catchy they be.
And yeah to make fun of it for being from a game is just bleh. I get it, stereotypically vg music is super energetic turned up to max but we're gonna have exceptions anyway! Cause like if game OSTs are just music, Film scores/soundtracks are music as well. And I get it for u people, u don't like filmlike soundtracks in games, but I think they still have a place. Isn't Minecraft kinda on that quality? If so transcending film and games altogether?
But yeah this take on things, just me ig

idk about you guys but Dry Hands is my favorite on this album. it's not perfect and it might be off-time at parts, but that makes it more emotional to me. it sounds like your close one voicemailed their piano practicing session.
1000%. not only that but the way the in game version has this reverb & space that is so "alone" but also so homely, is something i think about so much - every time it comes up in game i always feel so much emotion, even w the song saying so little
@@adridoesthings3703 alone but homely... that's the spirit of Minecraft, right there.
I LOVE dry hands, but I love the in game version mainly because of the ambience complementing the music so much more, plus nostalgia, haha.
@@areakastudios6704 yeah, the in-game version is superior and... almost heart-wrenching? it sounds like a distant memory.
I think a big part of the album’s popularity is mainly a nostalgia factor, but that doesn’t take away from it being overall a great album. I absolutely adore listening to this in my free time, especially when in nature. I grew up playing Minecraft on my best friends Xbox, and hearing this always floods me with memories of late nights and goofing around.
I mean it is the Minecraft soundtrack, one of the most famous games ever
nah
funny, I seen most people want to turn the music down, but nowadays seem to feel less mundane as we listen thru it ourselves. It do be great yeah
Popularity? Maybe. But it would be quality either way.
As someone who has been playing minecraft beta and alpha recently I grew up on these versions and when I first got back on and heard some of the tracks the music genuinely fucking broke me. Like this overwhelming nostalgia and reminiscing of how my life used to be when I was a kid it sent me into a crying session I haven't had in an extremely long time. Felt like my soul was being purged.
Its just hitting me how whimsical and magical everything feels when listening to this as an album

I don't hear it. This stuff is really twee and isn't on the same emotional response whatsoever. Melodically it's slightly similar to CN in parts but the arrangement and sonic palette is not. Also as far as ambient music goes this is pretty lame. I would describe it more as Weightless, but without the bass. Not everyhting without beats is ambient music.

I’ve actually never seen Brad rewind a track after ruining part of it with a sound bite before. This album is extremely powerful to have broken that streak.
One of the few times a UA-cam reaction where you just sit there is appropriate.
I never realised as a kid that C418 was directly inspired by Jean-Michel Jarre until I saw this track listing which has two tracks named after two of Jarre's albums, (Oxygene and Equinoxe)

Finally brad listened to good music
These songs instantly take me back to the best days of my childhood. Just being a kid staying up late during the hot nights of summer break, playing Minecraft on my shitty computer at my friends house. Having no worries, no real problems.
Glad Brad liked Mice On Venus as much as I did. The whole album is great, aside from some iffy inclusions, but Mice On Venus just HITS different. It's both playful and sad, as if you and your best friend are the last humans in existence and you get to go inside wherever and do whatever you want. I think it encapsulates the nostalgic feeling most people have with Minecraft while also just being a dang good song in general.
"key" will forever and always be my favorite c418 song... something about the chords is so beautiful and melancholy
20:33 “this is the best song about mice ever made” 😭
I’ve been a big fan of C418’s music for a while. I don’t know if he just hit a stride or what, but him making this, “72 Minutes Of Fame,” and “Life Changing Moments” within the same year has gotta be one of my favorite strings of album releases that all sound so, so unique and I think speak to how much he loves making music. What a magical composer and a great album.
Beginning (or atleast beginning 2) is such a uniquely special one to me, the main menu tracks are really nice, and the ones not on the soundtrack like droopy are interesting, they actually have some kind of vocals

Since there's some confusion about the tracks, here's a bit of info about where they show up in-game:
- Majority of the Volume Alpha tracks are somehow centered around survival mode. I say "somehow centered" because not all of them are actual survival themes. You probably noticed that a lot of tracks are paired and placed next to each other (Key and Door, Cat and Dog, Oxygene and Equinoxe, etc) and that's because majority of those pairs have one track that's used in game while the other is EXCLUSIVE to the soundtrack and will never play.
- There are some outliers, the main one i want to mention being that Thirteen and Cat are both music disc themes (and Dog is the ost-exclusive version of Cat)
I also HIGHLY recommend Beta!!!! It is much more of a dynamic listen but feels just as cohesive as Alpha imo because of the tracklisting. Beta contains:
- The creative mode themes
- The nether themes, pre nether update*
- The menu themes
- (Maybe some survival?? Lol i dont remember tbh i doubt it)
- All the other music discs
- A bunch of outliers (Credits theme, The End theme, a great exclusive closer in similar vain to Beginning)
* Additional context for the curious: The Nether is a dimension stylized like MC's version of hell. Since it was added it had minimal changes throughout the game's updates, being very empty and barren. Eventually there was an update dedicated to making the nether much more flexible and balanced in comparison to the overworld by adding new structures ores and biomes. Because of the massive change in scenery, a whole new set of tracks was made by Lena Raine. Both Nether soundtracks are awesome and accurately depict their version of The Nether.
i was laughing when i saw you did a reaction to this only to realise i actually love all these songs cause i grew up playing the game. but also this is the perfect kind of music to read to i think
