@@Kovna sorry, but he should have retired as a champion and not an old librarian. He had his time in the sun but let's be realistic. He should have been devoting his time to composing and ensuring his legacy by putting his music into notation so the world can hear his music, but alas, Ian has become a snob like the folks he would rise up against when he wore a younger mans clothes
@@Kovna I am glad he is still performing. Just not very well. I saw him live in So. Calif. about 6 years ago. For the 50th. anniverary tour. Time for him to .......relax a little.
Long Live Ian & Jethro Tull ! Grateful to be a proud and devoted Merry follower since 1968. Thanks for the Best Musical ENTERTAINMENT OF MY 71 year old Lifetime. ❤️
This is my all time favourite. The lyrics are soooo profound. This is where my life began..... when I was 12 years old. I'm 58 now and still blast it out regularly 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😍😍😘 loving the orchestral works xx
This is one of the best live performance. Of My God Live. Of all the other ones on U tube. If you believe in the Spirit world. He has nailed it. God is in the back of your Head most medicine men will agree. I was stationed in 1970-73 at HQ and HQ US Europe in Heidelberg Germany after a year in Vietnam 68-69. When this song came out. Ian Anderson. Is great on flute.
HOW GREAT THOU ART, MY LORD AND MY GOD!!!! A MASTERPIECE OF ALL TIME. THANK YOU IAN ANDERSON. GOD BLESS JETHRO TULL . I AM BLESSED TO LISTEN TO THIS MASTERPIECE. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!!!
From what I read here, this was recorded a few days before I saw Ian Anderson and the orchestra in Amsterdam. Beautiful version. Ian Anderson is always mentioned for the flute playing but I think he's a very decent guitar player. I remember reading an interview of Ritchie Blackmore (who has always admired Ian) in the early 80's where he said Ian was a good guitar player...
The best concert I ever saw was Jethro Tull and Clouds in Austin, TX in 1970. The highlight of the night was when Ian said he was gonna play a yet to be released song-My God!...which blew us all away! The entire flute solo performance extraordinaire was missing from this recent performance but it's fantastic to see it's still in Ian's repertoire. Thank you Ian for being such an inspiration all these years.
I love that little guitar, oh how I wish I had one just like it......... and Ian does not get nearly enough credit for being an excellent acoustic player. Really enjoyed this!
Have to agree with Samnmel100 The origial cannot be improved upon, and needs nothing! Written and played by a true musical genious! Saw them MANY times in the severnties
Wow, Ian is in great voice here! Considered that this was in 2004, a full 20 years after his vocal decline began, this is amazingly well sung. He must have hit a really good day.
In the days of old, traveling bards sang their songs, recited poetry and brought news from faraway lands. Kings and queens paid the bards gold for their news and consultations. The bards were in fact a secret society and shrouded in mystery. Their secret symbols, secret handshakes and hand signs. Bards recorded history , reported history , wrote music and poetry about history. They changed what humans thought regarding religion and traditional thought. Bards provided a unique service to humankind and were simultaneously dangerous.
Excellent rendition of this classic J.T.song,your a brave man speaking out against organized religion the way you do you have every right to comment and interpret old sacred.writings clergy speaks out why not you?
I was not prepared for how much i appreciated these interpretations. That orchestra really rocked - professional grade.
Ian Anderson was....The greatest ROCK performer in the 20th century..no one else was remotely close to his excellency..an enigma
Why "was". He's still alive and still performing.

Ian is actually a terrible flautist. His style is very maverick and apostatic

Ian Anderson nor Tull is good enough for the rock HOF? I'll take him / them over 99% of the artists already in

Exactly.
I listen to today's music and I wonder, what the hell happened.
I blame KISS and Michael Jackson.
И ещё ...слишком стар для рок'н'ролла , слишком молод умереть , это мой девиз по жизни , выслушан от Иэна .
Maravilhoso mau good venha ao Brasil
My God.
No need to say anything else.

I’d trade that entire string section for one Martin Barre
