    Great stuff. Here's what I heard:
    Pull masking tape back on itself and away from paint.
    Wait 15 mins after mixing paint components.
    Use ambient temperature air to set paints, NOT heat.
    Use a solvent-based pre-cleaner with water-based paints. (eg: One-Choice, PPG)
    Always do a test panel before trying something new.
    Always use 4011 Reducer as the primary reducer.
    Before using a new tack cloth, open it up and let it breathe 15 minutes or so.
    Strainers -- use 190 microns filter size as the largest. 120 microns good for all but metal and pearl flakes.
    Know your temp, humidity and dew point in the shop.
    Mix paints in cups instead of in the airbrush.
    Back-flushing is not advised as a cleaning procedure.
    Have a repair kit on hand.
    Most Createx paints contain an agitation marble. Shake that paint before using.
    Put a simple label on your mixed paints -- date, mix ratio, etc. And store mixed paint with the least amount of air possible.
    Wait an hour before masking over new paint.
    Don't use homebrew reducer. Totally avoid using pure Windex. 90% alcohol is a great cleaner.
    Do not leave masking tape rolls in a dusty, dirty environment.
    Know your paint cure window -- 48 hours for a complete cure of Createx products.
    Use a gloss clear as an adhesion promoter (Createx 4050).

    One note on test panels: if you keep it around the shop, write on it somewhere what you used for the panel. I know for me, a year or two down the road I probably won’t remember exactly how I got to the end result.

    Wow, I have a very real concern. I see that I actually ordered Createx opaque white that is not actually Createx 'Illustration' white.....sure hoping I can still use it and with my 'illustration' colors or I have myself a big problemo. I was so careful ordering them but not careful enough I see. What would you guys say on that....can they be used together at all?!!

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 роки тому +1

      All Createx paints are inter-mixable. However, Createx Airbrush Opaque White is much different compared to Illustration White, especially viscosity and atomization at low psi settings. You may find in addition to thinning Airbrush Opaque White ~ 30% per volume with 4011 Reducer, adding 4030 Balancing Clear ~ 10% per volume improves flow and atomization through smaller tip-sizes. Thank you. createxcolors.com/reducers-additives

    Just getting started with water based and found some answers to some of my questions in this video, great info, thanks. I wondered you guys didn't mention TDS info which I consider the gold std for any manufacturers product. After using solvent based for several years spraying mostly tricoat applications these days, small stuff like motorcycle tins, guitars, helmets etc., I learned to never even mix or open a can without having the TDS in hand. Like I learned early and that which was reinforced in the Navy, RTFM (Read The Frigin Manual) or suffer the consequences and don't wine :>) - BC

    On point 15--There are a number of videos that exclusively broadcast using Windex and all types of commercial cleaners as reducers for airbrush paints. Makes no sense to me.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 роки тому +2

      The active ingredient in Windex that made it work as a thinner (albeit one with a blue dye so it also tinted the color blue) is no longer in Windex. In the early 2000s, artists were using a product called Future Floor Wax, which may have assisted with reducing tip-dry, but made many 2k clears not compatible for use as a top-coat. We can only imagine the horror stories companies such as GM and Ford have with homemade modifications which ultimately ruin the vehicle.

    What is a good starting point to reduce / psi detail wicked out of a .2 needle size out of a iwata hp-c plus for finer detail on metal surface. Should I mix 4030 with reducer for this application. Loved your video, I learned a few more things. 😊

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 роки тому

      For nuanced tech info including reduction ratios, please refer to the specific color type's tech data sheet at www.creatextech.com. In general, add 4030 to color 10% per volume, and reduce anywhere from 10 - 25% to spray with good flow & atomization through a Micron. Adjust for preferred psi, which is a matter of technique, specific hue and more. Thank you.

    Great video guys. I am new to airbrushing. Now I know distilled water ideallly is not used for reducer in Createx Colors but why is distilled water not mentioned for cleaning the airbrush? Perhaps I missed it mentioned??

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 роки тому +2

      We recommend using soapy, warm water to clean an airbrush or spray-gun after use. To flush paint from the airbrush or spray-gun during use, an alcohol, water-based solution works much better to rinse out the paint completely compared to distilled water. Thank you.

    I do have a question in regard to Drying the paint-- inferred heaters?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 роки тому +1

      We generally do not recommend using heat to cure as the best coating in regard to adhesion and mar resistance comes from air drying at ~ 70 deg.F. That being so, infrared heaters can work especially if used to cure paint after its air dried first to a tack-free coating, then infrared is used to accelerate cure times. Test adhesion with a test panel before using an infrared on an actual paint project. thank you.

    What size tip do I use to spray metal flake mixed with black basecoat?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 роки тому +1

      Depends, a minimum of 1.4mm is best, although larger tip-sizes may work better, or a flake-specific gun. Thank you.
