    I don’t even care about the specifics of the conversation. I really am just glad that a Muslim and an ex-Muslim can sit together and have a laugh means a whole lot.
    Let’s keep normalizing decent because it doesn’t have to be a conflict.
    Peace ✌🏾 and thank you 🙏🏾 Veedu for bringing this type of conversation to us.

    Great discussion that resembles many of my own with my friends and acquaintances. Halfway through the video I realized that the basic barrier to understanding the religious framework is a shift in the paradigm of thought. What many people don't realize is the standard they apply to religion as an abstract is not the same standard they use to analyze every other abstract in their life. They hold religion on a different level, of what you can call absolutism, that has to fit within the criteria of their current paradigm of thought. Many non-religious people use a scientific paradigm to verify an abstract concept like religion or faith, but then fail to use the same reasoning for all of the other abstracts in their surrounding life. This barrier is what I have begun to refer to as the 'Brain' boundary, because the scientific paradigm is one founded on Reason or Logic and is primarily found within the brain organ. Faith and Religion does not come from Logic, it comes from Intuitive Feeling which is a function of the Heart. We've recently discovered that the Heart is not just a vessel to pump blood but has greater electrical output than the brain and functions as another locus of intelligence. The same can be said of the Digestive System which makes inputs directly to the Brain through the Vagus Nerve and has been manipulated by gut microflora to influence behavior. What many intellectuals have failed to realize is that they have limited their own understanding of reality by relying solely on their brain organ to 'think'.

    It seems that Mufti is giving us a basic lesson in basic Philosophy, it maybe worth watching Firas Zahabi or any one else for that matter. Mufti made some very profound/simple points, yet it seems Veedu and his especially his friend in the background (towards the end) could not grasp. I do believe Veedu is sincere. Seems like a nice guy, lol his friend seems to get frustrated and keeps mixing "observation" for science. Observation doesn't equate science.

    People find meaning in something (religion) However this causes suffering & harm for far too many. We can do better. What is meaning? Let's find (meaning?) in something that brings benefit & removes the harm & suffering for humans

I've been studying Critical thinking skills with a focus on the well being of others. I hope all humans can have these free thinking skills Freedom from any institution that tells you what to think. It is challenging but I believe freedom from institutions allows you to contribute to my thinking and I to yours much better than any contribution from one source or institution.

    Very interesting conversation. The Mufti here deserves respect for being honest with reasoning and known truths. He actually makes an effort to determine what is a fact and what's just kind of inherited belief. Actually any faith was first determined by fact and logical examination of what's happened and then people decided whether something is scientifically and circumstancially explainable (according to their times and knowledge). If something was not, but showed some kind of unexplainable power and affect on reality then it would be considered as miracle and proof of existence of the misterious and powerful being called God. Then the religion with all its rules and regulations trying to subordinate to this great power would also create the fear of unforseen consequences with equally unexplainable (as miracles) horrors that would await those who didn't comply with mass accepted beliefs. That also was not explainable by the masses why something obvious could be questioned by the people who think for themselves so they'd be included into the category of horrors that dares to destroy the agreed upon version of reality.

    • @jolaola1987
      @jolaola1987 4 роки тому

      So later there was big discussion about what is and what is not real. What is or isn't true or verifiable, what is just a concept. I think that the only truth is just our experience, our presence of "I am that I am" and all the reality that we live in is just abstract concepts that we create out of thin air. Of course it means that we do live in an illusion but that doesn't mean the illusion isn't real or true, because it has results and consequences on the quality and sort of our experience. So by creating illusory concepts we affect the reality of our experience.
      Weather it is philosophical concept, vibration of sound, or a materialised concept of a table that you can touch, these are all illusory concepts that become real as soon as they affect our perception. And perception can be affected immediately or in further subtle ways but it's still the same mechanism.

    What I would say to people saying that Muft Abu Layth is being disingenuous, in representing Islam, is that he is being as honest as he can be. Now, sure your traditional view of Islam may not be compatible with his interpretation but that is exactly what he is reconciling when he accepts that the traditional view was made to serve the requirements of the past, and that is what Muslims have lost the sight of. Also, viewing Islam as an artistic expression is the way to go about it, imo, because it takes away its ability to become dogmatic. You eliminate an ideology that big, which holds power over so many people, by actively warring against it. Honestly, you don't have to. Just try to create an alternate meme that is superior (taking out the bad aspects) to the previous one.

    It´s very simple. We are the creators of the world that we percieve. However this world we percieve is not the objectively or absolutely real world. The realities of it are of course perceptible to us, like sound waves making up music. But sound or music itself has no existence outside of our percieved world. Our percieved world only exists with all the names and definitions we have given it as long as we are around. Therefore arriving at any objective truths is impossible. The Muftis point was about whether we are able to affirm or deny either proposition of God existing or not existing, for which the aforementioned is relevant.
    Therefore any statements we make must necessarily require us to take this claimed truth into consideration.

    *Matthew 1,18-25*
    18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, *before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.*
    19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.
    20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, *fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.*
    21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
    22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
    *23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.*
    24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
    25 *And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.*

Therefore even music is real in that sense as we can verify it through or sense of hearing. laws on the other hand are man made concepts that we use as they provide us with value and utility. The problem with religions are that they have many stories and make many claims which appear to be occuring in the reality which we perceive through our senses but when we actually try to test these things we find them to be unverifiable or with evidence to the contrary.

The very last part, where hearing and visual faculties were discussed was interesting. But my expectation of the discussion leading to an enquiry of:
    *_what it is_*_ that senses whatever that is sensed,_ was thwarted.
    Here is a Vedic perspective on the matter from the *Kena Upanishad* Part 1:
    4. That which is unexpressed by the word, that by which the word is expressed, know That to be the Brahman and not this which men follow after here.
    5. That which thinks not by the mind, that by which the mind is thought, know That to be the Brahman and not this which men follow after here.
    6. That which sees not with the eye, that by which one sees the eye’s seeings, know That to be the Brahman and not this which men follow after here.
    7. That which hears not with the ear, that by which the ear’s hearing is heard, know That to be the Brahman and not this which men follow after here.
    8. That which breathes not with the breath, that by which the life-breath is led forward in its paths, know That to be the Brahman and not this which men follow after here.
    (Note: Brahman is the unknowable and therefore beyond description).

      @@owaisbukhari5263 what i find most difficult to understand about islam is how millions of people fail to see how Muhammad is a flawed man and they continue to celebrate him as perfect. He is far from a good role model, especially in today's world. They also claim the Quran to be a perfect and miraculous document when it's riddled with errors. One needs not to be anti-islam to see them. But Muslims tend to explain them away. Having a rebuttle doesnt mean it is a good one.
      Consider these situations as an example :
      1. Muhammad's first wife was filthy rich. She was much older than him ( these are not problems ). It was Khatijah and her uncle who convinced him that he is a prophet after the "angel" assaulted him.
      2. His last wife was a mere child. Couldnt Allah have found another way for him to care for her instead of causing generations to come so much dispute and embarrasssment and debate . Till today, there are people who use his example to justify child abuse in this context.
      3. His second wife was worried in her old age that he would discard her. So she offered up her night to be with him. He gladly accepted it to be with one of the younger ones. Worse still, he said it's condoned by Allah
      4. He married his adopted son's wife simply because he fancied her. It's even suggested that she is a blood cousin, which is genetically unhealthy. In the process to justify it, he discouraged adoption. Also uses Allah to support his desires.
      5. The story of Hafsa and Maryam the Copt. He literally lies to Hafsa to get her out of the house so that he could sleep with Marysm. And got caught. Tries to silence Hafsa but the other wives found out anyway. Then uses God and fearmongering to defend himself.
      These are just a few examples of many. One issue out of many. Any neutral person with two sense can see him for what he is. If anybody else had done these things, you wouldnt hesitate to call him out on it. Or worse, punish him. I'm not making these things up..it's in the Quran, sahih and non-sahih hadith and the sira. Look it up.
      Again, i would caution you this. Having an explanation doesnt mean it's a good one. Apologists, for ages, have tried to whitewash common sense with hypocrisy and linguistic gymnastics.
      How do you expect a lay person to look at these issues and accept that this man is a prophet?

    As far the Qur'anic response that compares Jesus to Adam is concerned, I think the point of it is to appeal to reason with Christians when discussing the special Divine status they attribute to Jesus as the "only begotten son" of God because they believe he was born without a father. This status is rendered less "miraculous" and significant via the analogy of comparing his creation to that of the first human being Adam who was created by God's own "hands" so to speak from wet clay in which God "breathed" into him something of his Own spirit, and hence without both a mother and father, a belief which both Christians and Muslims share. There was no need to rebuke the idea of the virgin birth in these verses because it isn't really a point of contention as Muslim and Christian conceptions of God wholeheartedly allow for this possibility.

    Great that you're having these discussions!
    In my opinion most of the 'objective' and 'true' part is hair-splitting. Philosophically and sceptically, 'I think therefore I am' is the only thing that we can say is 'objectively true'. You have to exist in some form to ponder reality. Nothing else can meet this standard.
    But comparing music and colour to religion is intellectually dishonest. Music and colour do not make unfalsifiable claims of something beyond nature, religions do. Who would even argue that music is 'true' in an objective sense, without someone to make it and someone to listen to it?
    I would have no problem with something that provides meaning to people, if these notions of creation, soul, sin, the right way to live and after-life had no consequences in our shared reality (e.g. religious politicians influencing laws, faith schools) and did not defy logic. Maybe we will never know whether Jesus is the son of God, a prophet or a motivational speaker that took it to a new level, but pretending to know and believing in it can be worse than saying 'I don't know'.

    Ontological from a Mohamed and his followers are plain pretentious in knowledge to explain stupidity from people never understood what is ontological 1400 years ago until today.
    Why do not start by saying God is not comprehended, and he does not speak or write Arabic, with words have thousands of explanation. That man is stupefying himself by philosophical words with no real meaning, or context. Whom is he fooling.
    Vicious verbose nonsensical muscles.

    • @jagathmithya719
      @jagathmithya719 5 років тому

      True. There is no ontological organized knowledge domain in Islam. How can it be when it is based on illogical and superstitious beliefs? Such as:
      ★ *Eternal Hell & Eternal Heaven*
      ★ *Angels, Jinn, Flying horses & Satan*
      ★ *Day of Judgement*
      ★ *Creation from nothing (ex-nihilo)*
      ★ *A God out there on a throne (Creation separate from Creator)*
      The first 3 are designed to infuse terrifying fear in order to extract slave-like obedience from followers and are stressed again and again endlessly in the Quran, to be believed without any semblance of doubt/question by “believers” of Islam. If any one of these superstitious ideas is taken away, the Quran becomes baseless and Islam collapses!
      The last 2 are illogical and contradictory. Physical events come within the purview of science. Can creation happen from nothing? There is no precedence in the universe for something popping out from nothing! Granting God is all-powerful, does he flout his own physical laws of conservation of mass and energy? Or have Abrahamic theologies misunderstood “creation” - which is more likely? The claim of Creator (on his Arsh) and his creation being separate (implying the existence of two different spatial domains that cannot be infinite and hence proving Allah must be finite) can be discredited using intellectual arguments alone.

    As a Muslim I have had many spiritual experiences that science might not be able to answer and what is not part of the norm. What about jinn? I know 100% they exist. I was once sat on my bed reciting zikr. I had newly moved into the house and all of a sudden the chandelier was swung. The light was on aswel it was around 3 a.m. my eyes were open when it was swung due to the loud sound it awoke my wife. The windows were closed so wind couldn't be a factor especially with the force it went up. This was one of many different experience I have had. How would one explain this??

    • @Cz-zi3my
      @Cz-zi3my 4 роки тому

      There could be hundreds of reasons for that. I’m Muslim myself but you’re just grasping at straws here?
      Firstly, why are awake with the lights on at 3AM.
      Secondly, your window doesn’t need to be open in order to cause your chandelier to shake. Thats just stupid.
      Thirdly, Jinns cannot interact with physical things. If so why are thing not getting picked up or floating away?
      If you really need an story as absurd as this to strengthen your faith then whats the point? Is the Quran and the Hadith not enough?

    • @boxer786ful
      @boxer786ful 4 роки тому

      @@Cz-zi3my no I don't need this experience to believe but it may clear any doubts if I had any about jinn. I wake up at that time to pray tahajud and to do certain zikr hence the light being on aswel. Depending on the rank/type of jinn they can interact with the world silly. I know it was a jinn nothing else could do that plus after I had a few other incidents with this jinn. It's hard to explain fully in detail writing but this family of jinn did not like my presences. My sheikh had told me it was a family of jinn living in the park outside my house. Another time I was sleeping and I woke up however I couldn't move but was fully conscious. I could open my eyes but body couldn't move. This had happened number of occasions but this perticular time I recited aytul kursi as normal and relaxed. I heard laughter and one voice in a very deep scary tone say "just leave this area". This is just very breif there's alot more.

      @Cz-zi3my 4 роки тому

      boxer786ful 😂😂😂 You woke up but couldn’t move? Thats called sleep paralysis you idiot! Come on, any normal person can just look it up and find out why this happened to them, not you though eh? Your answer is always supernatural right?
      Thats when your mind wakes up before your body!
      Also, you had many interactions with this Jinn but the most plausible one for you is that your chandeliers moved? The last part is also false. Jinns cannot speak to us unless possessing someone. Its sad that you need to state such stories to strengthen your faith.

    • @boxer786ful

      @@Cz-zi3my I know what science calls it sleep paralysis. So you said there could be a 100 reasons as to why my chandelier not just moved but was swung powerfully that it went to one side hit the ceiling and made a loud noise it awoke my wife who was sleeping next to me. I began to recite ayat til kursi and the diamond pieces on the chandelier began to kind of spark/Flickr also there was a smell. You provide me with some reasons? Once again this "sleep paralysis" happened this time a jinn did a grunt in my ear from very close as this happened I quickly turned was it a coincidence as soon as the jinn grunts am able to move from the paralysis.

    • @Cz-zi3my
      @Cz-zi3my 4 роки тому

      boxer786ful Jinns don’t smell of anything! 😂 WOW you’re really grasping at straws here. You so desperately want it to be true that you’re making up BS. It’s called cognitive dissonance, when something else clashes with your believes you become all defensive and delusional.
      You’re acting like sleep paralysis is uncommon. And Jinns cannot whiper physically to you, they can only possess you or whisper to your heart but never physically. I suggest you learn more about Jinns than keep up this absurd story. Quite frankly, It’s pathetic.

    Angels are light beings which exist from higher dimensions. The fact that human’s believe only what is experienced directly by our limited five senses and only what limited science has described, is so ridiculous. Science itself tells us that we exist within a multiverse consisting of an infinite number of dimensions even occupying the space we exist within. we trying to articulate and describe and draw concepts way beyond our comprehnsion and if we can’t we just reject it. Religion is a force for good. Just like music moves people to do better and sometimes worse, religion on a much bigger and deeper scale does the same. It’s all been misinterpreted by different ignorances. These conversations are so important but how can we say ‘real’ is only what we touch and see, like the ‘table’, when 99.9% of the known universe is empty space according to OUR own limited Science, which means the real REALITY scientifcally MUST include everything in the 99.9% that we CANNOT see because OUR limited human eyes and senses were only developed for thins TINY fragment reality- for whatever higher reason we may or may not eventually discover. Heaven and hell exist- in your heart and soul. They are states of being. Salat done properly (without fear and with absolute gratitude) is yoga + meditation + positive affirmations + gratitude journal - ALL of which ‘science’ is now heavily showing as having profoundly positive benefites for our overall mental and physical (and spiritual and astral) health. Our blink of a life even as a whole species in totality of existence is such a tiny time line that its truly laughable to believe this is everything there is and nothing else exists beyond. And tbh i dont just mean aliens which exist within the 3rd dimensional physical reality but other all other life forms including angels demons djinns entities spirits ghosts auras energies yourself in other dimensions living simultaneiously and a vast whole other infinite bunch of creations of the highest Source. Just saying as part of the convo. truly, I love you all. 😘

      Just to expand a little- the source message of all religions expands our compassion and love for ourselves and others. There is no material gain from this except growth as a conscious life form and as a species. The detail that the Quran goes into for example as correctly described by the mufti is poetic and must resonate from it’s time and must take into account the many mystical meanings it can have to the individual and ever changing over time as intnded possibly lifetimes. What are the main askings of Islam for example, pray Salat five times, charity, fast and observe etiquettes of ramadan, appreciate pilgrimage, and declaring that all things are ONE. Thats literally all- what harm or financial benefit can come from any of those things observed purely they can only bring peace and reward for the individual, which in turn helps the Creator of Good become bigger and spread farther in it’s ever expanse of light AND darkness. The rest of the ‘rules’ of the Quran fr example are just assisting our humanity in political and social settings (which at the time of revelation were much more barbaric) although now we are being presented a much greater threat. Guess who

    Ex muslims bitching about Islam, like ex husbands bitching about marriage or ex teachers bitching about the teaching profession. Why do these people define themselves by their failures? Probably they are living their little Salman Rushdie dream, they probably think the ayatollahs are chasing them all the over world in order to neutralise them, like in the Bourne movies. Common guys, really, seriously? Nobody gives a damn about "what you used to be". Why don't you grow up and move on and start defining yourselves by what you are for not by what you used to be. Whining and moaning makes you look pathetic bitches craving for attention from your ex-wives or school board.
