Tony, Can you send me your mechanics info? I have a 14 Exp and I want the same done, Im in Mass and would drive up, he seems like a good guy. Can you email me? AviationNationHD@gmail.com Thanks!
Everytime I drop the pan on any of my vehicles to change the trans filter I always first buy a $10.00 fluid transfer pump from Walmart. Shove one hose down the tip stick tube and the other hose into an empty gallon jug of whatever I can find and pump as much out as I can. Makes dropping the pan a whole lot less messy and also easier to remove the pan without it bending from 5 quarts or so of trans fluid moving around.
Wish these came with a drain plug, it's ridiculous.
Thank you both so much for this great instruction video. I really appreciate this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The transmission service whisperer, I liked the pro tip of putting a bolt back on the side to avoid the pan from dropping while working on the back bolts👍🏽 I now appreciate Honda putting a drain plug on their transmissions.

Great video and easy to understand. No rush as you took the time to explain how to make the job easy. Thank you very much.
Thank you for watching our auto repair video that shows you how to replace the transmission filter in a Ford Expedition. We try to go into some depth and explain what we are doing and why we are doing it in our video so that our viewers also learn something. Have a great day!
I did my 14 expedition without even jacking it up.
New trans pan with drain
Added dipstick kit
Changed trans filter
Flushed all trans fluid
Flushed all power steering
Drained and replaced trans case fluid
Flushed cooling system
Flushed all brake fluid
Changed diff fluids
Changed serpentine belt
Never even lifted it up.. slid under, 20in factory rims and factory suspension.
Thanks for watching
Where did you get the new pan and dip stick conversion ?
Yeah what conversion did you use? And how's it holding up for you?
Thanks for info
When I’m ready I’ll instead use a transfer pump rather than letting it drip all over but that’s just me
Thanks for watching! Don't forget to subscribe!
thank you for the video, very helpful
I have a question regarding the vehicle I have a leak from the transmission pan and you said that the gasket is reusable so in my case do I just torque the pan harder or do I have to change the gasket?
You should be able to just evenly snug the bolts up like we did in the video. If it is leaking and doesn't want to stop you may need a new gasket. Hope this helps you out.
will this work with the 2007 lincoln navigator? 2wd?
What grease did your mechanic use on the pan gasket?
It was just bearing grease we purchased from the local parts store. It was more than likely the Timken brand. Hope this helps you out.
What type of fluid you are using?. Ford recommend Motorcraft Mercon SP.
We used the O'Reileys equivalent
It's okay to use the full synthetic fluid instead of the Ford fluid, when there's still Ford fluid in the transmission?
I haven't had an issue using the synthetic.
What kind of grease did you apply to the gasket? It looked red. Is that a RTV sealant or actual grease or petroleum jelly? The Haynes manual Chapter 7 Part B - Gasket leaks - states: "If sealant instead of gasket material has been used to form a seal between the pan and the transmission housing, it may be the wrong sealant."
All that was is a little wheel bearing grease it plays no roll in sealing the pan. We use it to visually make sure that all of the bolts on the transmission pan are tight because it oozes out of the sides. You can reuse the factory gasket if it is in good shape.
What adaptors did you use for the ones where the exhaust is in the way?
I see now thanks
Thanks for watching
@@HomeOwnerRepair I did everything instructed in the video and am having harsh shifts and some metal rubbing. Not enough fluid?
Do I have to replace the filter every time I replace the trans fluid? In my case the reason I will put new fluid in, it's cause gasket leaks.
The transmission filter should be changed along with the transmission fluid. The filter helps to filter out any debris floating around in the transmission fluid. The small particles of metal are what can cause a transmission to not shift properly. Hope this helps you out.
I just bought a 2012 Expedition King Ranch with 39k miles. When should I drain the fluid and filter and should I make a drain plug?
Mileage wise you're all set, but the truck is 10 years old. I would replace the filter with a new one and top off the transmission fluid. The truck has to be level when doing this.
39k original miles ? Nice !!! I have 2010 Expedition with 195k miles and never change the transmission fluid. I guess it’s time 🤔
Can you drain through fluid through dipstick hole using a suction gun?
You may be able to use this method, but the proper method is the one that is shown.
I had to do that because I over filled it with new fluid. Worked like a charm to get the fluid level just right.
Not sure about reusing a gasket ? Would be pretty annoying to have to redo the whole thing. Because the gasket is leaking .. worse still it runs low and damaged the tranny! I like to do it all myself at least you know it’s actually been done
I said the same thing but mine was in good shape and it was fine to reuse..no leaks.
I've rebuilt approximately 2,000 6R80 transmissions at the largest transmission excange with the original "Reusable pan gasket" never had any issues with the gasket itself
It says on the Ford pan the gasket is reusable. It is not a cheap, weak gasket. It is like metal with a rubber attached around the edge.
How much oil do i need? What Mercon tipo oil??? Can you tell me exactly oil toy buy? Expedition 2013
The recommended transmission fluid should be in your owner's manual.
I have always wondered how much they charge you for this normally? Maybe a ballpark?
Filter and fluid is like 450 dude. Full flush is 600. You can do this for 80 bucks.
Is it up to that much now...holy crap!
@@HomeOwnerRepair yup, bend over and you get no lube lol 😆
How much fluid remains in the torque converter?
Wondering if someone can tell me how much Trans fluid i will need for a pandrop and filter change?
It's mentioned in the video
Is the same for a Lincoln??
It should be the same process on the Lincoln
One of the nails that holds the transmission fluid broke so the other half in the hole stuck (just one nail), you think I’ll be good?
You may want to get it out
@@HomeOwnerRepair i was out of my ordinary mindset but what I meant to say is 2 nails broke and the transmission oil pan leaks a bit from the southern part of the pan, what do you think the issue is?
Can you guys tell me what filter I need? We followed your instructions and now it won't engage.
Here is a link to them on Amazon amzn.to/34dodLn
@@HomeOwnerRepair you guys are amazing! Thank you. I'll give you an update, lol.
@@HomeOwnerRepair That links to a filter Amazon says does not fit my 2007 Ford Expedition EL Limited. Instead, Amazon says to use the FT-160, which is a Ford filter without an exit hole.
Is that the solenoid we’re looking up at? 🤔
There is a transmission valve body above the filter.
@@HomeOwnerRepair thank you for clarifying. 👌🙂
Your video is the ONLY one I find that fills the pan before bolting back up. Why????🤔🤔🤔 Why use the dip stick up top???
It's easier to fill it on the bench than to toss a bunch of tranny fluid down the filler tube.
I put cardboard under the drain pan because l spill trans fluid every time, even using a transfer pump.
Yeah it can make a mess.
I hate to admit... I have a 2011 Ford Expedition with 171,000..I had the trannie fluid and filter changed...but I cant remember when!😳
It should be serviced every 30,000-40,000 miles
@@HomeOwnerRepair Yikes. My 2011 Expy has abt 165k and just today I noticed a transmission pan leak. So I guess it's time to open that up.
Autozone gave me two choices for the filter: F-307 (long neck) and F-323 (short neck). My tranny is a 6R80. Any thoughts on this?
Great Video >>> Stupid Ford :( A Drain Plug would have been nice , eh ?? Guess the engineers DON'T Listen to there Mechanics , lol I just had mine flushed which was easy in it self but now i have a hose leak, Not sur which 1 ? But would you know the hose part # so I can Replace it/them Thanks so much :) PEACE
The lack of a drain plug on the transmission pan is not just a Ford thing very few vehicles have a drain plug on the transmission to let the fluid out. Now most of the transmissions in vehicles are sealed so you need to have a machine pump the old fluid out and cycle new transmission fluid back into the transmission. It frustrating.
You didn't tell what type of transmission pluid to use!
It's in your manual
They used valvoline, but its always recommended to use factory trans fluid, i believe motorcraft is what Ford uses
Mercon sp is recommended
Thanks for watching
This guy tells us 38 times that he is going to pre-fill the pan before he installs it so that he will have less to fill later with the suction gun.
lol..it's all good right ..ha..ha..thanks for watching bud
