NGB - Boss Tutorial - How to fight Alma - All difficulties

- I hope this isnt too brief but I tried a couple of methods for this and they ended up becoming too complicated for their own good.
Golden rule for Alma is patience and practice. There are tons of nuances to learn in order to feel really comfortable fighting her and I tried to cover some of them in this video.
A lot of this will be mirrored in the Awakended Alma tutorial which will be longer than this one. Any questions fire away below.
When I first faced her, she had me stuck for 2 months. Never forget I had her health bar down to about 15 percent. I had full health I got excited, she beam grabbed me twice and I threw my controller 😂😂. Great video dude!
She has been kicking my ass for years I always get stuck here. I forever struggle with the timing in this game but these videos have been very helpful.

With a big projectile thats about to hit Ryu while he’s on the floor, that adds more to make the experience authentic.
I've beaten Alma on Hard, and now I'm excited to try and get better with Very Hard and Master Ninja. Thanks for continuing the series.
After the NG Collection got announced I went into this game to play it on hard for the first time, and wow I kind of screwed myself by not getting many healing items, this vid is helping though so hopefully I can beat her soon!
Thanks boss mans this was a big help. Playing NGB on hard for the first time and I was losing my mind but ended up beating her without any elixirs because there’s no shop at the end of chapter 7
Great video in a superb series! One thing I might add: for me it seems to work better if i concentrate on alma and neglect her minions. Especially on master ninja.
damn.. I recently started playing this game after some years on the Xbox one and I'm reeeeally rusty here. I spent a solid hour and half just trying to get past Alma on Normal difficulty and you made it seem so easy.

Man, the saving grace for me throughout this game was holding on to those items that extend your health because they fill out all the way up. This game was a beating at times, but so cool and so much fun.

If NG2 is added to backwards compatible then maybe. NG2's performance is the main thing that stops me playing it more. If they released it for XB1 then I would hope the load times at least would be normalised.
Hey JTB I know this video is old but I’m so glad I saved it on my watch later cause I’m Platinuming ngs plus (vita version) and the pillars kept nicking me over and over this video helped a lot with punishing her.
Seeing this made me dust off my Vita to see what I needed for that Platinum and it's those bloody 100 ninpo use ones. Glad this video helped though, I will now chip away at those Ninpo grinds, I knew there was a reason I didn't bother with it years ago.
And people say Dark Souls bosses are hard - well, ok some are.
But Ninja Gaiden is a different type of hard, and I love it.

Great video once again! Had no clue you could GB her from the start using that essence from the other room, smart thinking! I generally kill her minions first and then - when she is knocked down - use Fire Wheels XYXXX (drop) XYXXX (drop) XYXXX, since the Wheels juggle her for you. The targeting can get a bit weird though, since Ryu can, in mid-air, decide to target a Crow Fiend on the other side of the galaxy.
Really looking forward to the Awakened Alma one. I recently posted some notes in the Archives since I was doing single-weapon runs and noted how exceptionally good I found the Kitetsu against her, so I'm curious to see if you'll note that too or if you'll blow me away with another insane tactic haha! If you are a vet you can still learn a lot from jb! I used to (especially if you were around when it released) just make sure everything was full and use it all to beat her! Now if I use a rebirth I am pissed ! Now all the bosses are simply play things for me! You mite not see it now but one day it just clicks and you like Bruce Leroy will find the glow!.....2021 keep kicking fiend ass!
I'm stuck, again. I struggled to defeat her in Very Hard now in Master Ninja I get my ass kicked over and over.
She is cheap and annoying to hit her.
I always repeat alma boss fight and doku boss fight because I always aim on less use of elixirs and zero use of that rebirth or whatever item.
I've got to a point where I can defeat Alma and Alma 2 quite easily on normal. Alma 2 I've realised that when she lands just before she runs at you, if you flying swallow her, she'ss fall back stunned and you'll be able to attack.
But I've got to Alma on my first "hard" run and I'm not used to fighting with enemies at the same time. At the same time, she fires more fire balls and pillars at you.
Where were you when I beat her on hardest difficulty back on original Xbox when it took me 3 days.

can u specify which combo would deal higher damage output , the 360 Y or the xxy into forward y air combo ? i feel the timing to dish out damage is very short. By the way keep up the good work , looking forward to your armour and weapon defense breakdown tutorial. Thank you for posting them.
If every hit lands on the XXY->YXXY combo then it will do a bit more damage than a normal gleaming blade. I like the cancel combo as the GB has a lot of recovery and if there are minions left they can hit you afterwards.
If you have essence around though for for the GB UT as it will do insane damage.
I just saw a NG Sigma play through, and it brought me some PTSD when dude fought here but idk what diffculty he had it on but he finished her 1st try. I was like wtf, did they nerf her in Sigma?? She was the most memorable boss for me in the entire game 20 something years later cause she was so hard then i saw it, she wasnt usinf her fireball attacks, no minion help and you could easily stun her. She deserved better in Sigma..
This is the fastest I have ever seen anyone use RYU, are you playing this on 360 or XBOX One? My 360 wireless controls DO NOT respond that quickly which is rather very annoying.

This is Xbox One, regarding inputs it could depend on what display you're playing on. A viewer in my stream mentioned that once he changed his settings to gaming on a TV the controls felt significantly more responsive so you could try that.
I play on monitors now and have done for quite some time so I'm not really sure how modern TV's are for gaming but it could be a factor.
@@JayTB123 Thanks, I will definitely try that, I never would have thought in a million years that that would be a factor in play, you seem like a pro at Ninja Gaiden.
I was really disappointed with the third version of the game, it seems they lost the plot BIG TIME. It'll be interesting to see if NAMCO is working on something behind the scenes.

Hah, unfortunate timing on this video. I *just* got around to getting NGB again not too long ago, got myself to Alma, completely forgot everything about how to deal with her, and promptly died twice.
Alma is easy in Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge (as an extra boss in the Crystal Skull Challenge/Test of Valor) since you have the Eclipse Scythe to easily damage her; although she is hard at first.
Same drill, spam the Flying Swallow until she is hit then spam the Eclipse Scythe but be careful once she flies again.
just defeated her on normal last evening, the fight is a real dodgefest
New to the game and I’m currently stuck on her, the controls feel too tanky and sluggish to dodge and attack her properly
@@kingawesome5219 its all about practice mostly, but once you figure it out it should be doable, try to flying swallow just to put her down
Pavlek Yeah I know about using flying swallow, but the problem with fighting enemies like Alma is that even if you learn their patterns at attack when you are supposed to, they will block, dodge, attack, or grab making the fight inconsistent
The best examples I can think of is flying swallow Alma or Doku when they are vulnerable and it hurts them, and when the same scenario happens again the swallow strangely does no damage.
@@kingawesome5219 Don't know about Doku, but I mostly try to hit with Windmill Slash, the only thing I found pretty consistent against him. and yeah Alma has some unpredictable s i would say sometimes it works sometimes it don't

It's a level 3 dragon sword move. Do a circular motion with the analog stick (it doesn't have to be a full circle) and hold heavy attack

Her move list is bullshit. No matter what I do I always die. I hate how the devs thought this was a good idea to make her to powerful.
I'd recommend watching your unsucessful runs back, odds are you will quickly identify what you did wrong and improve on the next attempt.
Like every boss once you understand what Alma can and cannot do she is much easier.

Edit: I DID IT I DID IT 8 HOURS 16 MINUTES AND 18 SECONDS BUT I FINALLY DID IT!!!! TEN YEARS MAN TEN DAMN YEARS IN THE MAKING
What bit/attack is giving you the most trouble? On Normal you don't have to worry about extra enemies so you can focus entirely on Alma.
If there is a certain attack that is hard for you to evade I would recommend saving your ninpo and using that as an escape instead.
@@JayTB123 I can evade most of the attacks absolutely no problem, except when she launches those huge pillars at you! The second one just continuously gets me, meanwhile she's already over the top of me, so by the time ryu is up on his feet she's already started the grab and thats it I'm dead,
The trickiest part is that I have no elixers of healing or Devils way, Muramasa is nowhere to be seen at all in this area where I've saved(past the tunnel thats sunken underwater) I'm starting with full health and 2 ninpo out of 3.
Decided just now that I'm gonna leave the archives battle during this out of the question since I seem to leave the area having lost more health which I really need for the fight with Alma. It's more than likely my own frustration thats getting to me.
I've studied this video and it was helpful to learn how to evade her attacks but it honestly feels like we are not playing the same game. Alma does not behave like she does here when I fight her and I cannot punish her the same way you do.
Haze straight slash as punish either misses due to lack of range or she dodges it completely, every single time. The only thing that worked to get her into a stagger state was flying swallow immediately after she threw a round of fireballs (hits about 50% of the time) or immediately after the misses the tractor beam grab (hits every single time). That's it. Anything else left me wide open to get hit.
Beyond that it's honestly just a matter of getting lucky with the godawful camera and being in a good position on the way-too-small arena so that you have enough space to dodge the pillars effectively and kill the minions with a full combo without getting caught in an inescapable attack while you're recovering at the end of said combo (and trust me that happens a lot).
Overall, this game has left a very poor impression on me. I played the original (no black or sigma versions) back on the first Xbox as a young kid and found it hard but fair. Playing the Sigma version on hard 17 years later and it's just not a good feeling. Between this shitty boss that demands you to just study its entire moveset like you're studying for an exam (not true difficulty when you can't rely on reaction), the terrible camera (can be forgiven since it's a game from 2004) and other lame bullshit it just feels like the devs had no idea how to make a truly difficult game and just resorted to cheap tricks.
Anyway, excuse my rant. Thanks for the video, you're really good at the game.-
Just beat alma first try playing this game, guess those 2000 hours across the souls series paid off!
When she lands I rush her immediately. You can get her into a loop trying to leg grab you and XX will always land after a dodge similar to Ishtaros.
That's very risky for such a low damage output though and if she does flip kick instead of the leg grab it's really tough to react too. If you want to tackle her agressively HSS and XXY cancels will do a lot more damage and can still loop her.
Just fucking great im stuck at this twat with nothing but a greater elixir potion.... Doesn't help that ive got no ninpo and no prior save slot either. There is no way im replaying everything just to come back here but by the looks of it I wont be beating this slag either.... its bloody impossible.
