Hello, Carmilla. I enjoyed watching this video. I am a Black woman from California and my husband and I are looking to retire in SC. We have family down there so we have visited the Charleston area before. We love the area. Your videos are very informative. Keep doing what your doing..
From my experience people here are not as friendly as they say and black people here are crabs in a bucket. If you are from out of town thinking about moving to South Carolina, do not move to Charleston or North Charleston. You’re better off moving to Summerville, Moncks Corner, or Mount Pleasant if you can afford it. May see a lil racism in mount pleasant and Daniels island but friendly here? I don’t know about that. I’ve been born and raised here and I know from experience. I’ve lived in Summerville, North Charleston and mount Pleasant growing up and as an adult now I’m in Charleston downtown and I’m ready to leave South Carolina all at once. 🙄 but try it for yourself only you know what you like or don’t like🤷🏽♀️it just seems like black peoples give black people a hard time living here it’s sad.
Hello there. I wish you had a better experience. What I will say is life is what you make it. I can live anywhere and make it what I want. Except for extremely cold 🥶 places. Cold and snow is not for me at all. But like I have mentioned several times. I am born and raised here and who I choose to be around, socialize with and spend time with is my choice and I choose not to be around people that are like that. So for me it’s not that way here. I will turn lemons into lemonade if I need to. My advice to you and anyone moving to this area is find a positive circle of friends, areas, people to surround yourself with and only you can define that for you. And sometimes it starts with knowing who you are and maybe working on self first to make sure it’s not you that is seeing things as they are not. My favorite saying is change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change. Thank you for sharing your opinion. I do appreciate it.
This is the video I've been looking for. My husband and I are planning to move to the area and had some concerns. We're from Chicago, but we lived in Columbia for a couple of years in a pretty diverse neighborhood. We're hoping Charleston and the surrounding areas are somewhat similar

I've lived in both cities. I'm from Charleston and I went to school and worked professionally for most of my life in Columbia. I'm not in love with either city...They both have their pros and cons. Im hoping i get this job at the VA in Charleston, the place sound a little better.than Georgia.
Please, as a black person, do not move somewhere expecting blacks or a black community or a white community to be of any true support to you. If you are after your goals and dreams, God gave it to you, not a community. Many times, a community do not want to see you succeed. And will try to spiritually steal your dreams and profit from it themselves. You have to know that it will be your own work and effort, along with the right true people.... that help you get to your goals. And that may come from any race. If you depend on a black community, you may never reach your dreams. But if you push forward and allow life to send the right people, not fakers who come to steal that vision, but the right people, then you are on the right track.

Hello there. I can only give you my personal experience and my view point. As a daughter, mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin of a large family with many friends all walks of life I can not give you bad sad racist stories of my experience as a black person living in Charleston. I enjoy life as I see fit and I do not have any negative black person racist experience to share. Others may have but I do not. So my video was to share with you my experience. Not others. And to share how if you are a black person thinking of moving to Charleston and have concerns well maybe think about why you would have those concerns and if you are the person who has the mindset I discussed in the video. Charleston is not only what you see on the news or tv. And as I said there are good and bad incidents and history in Charleston. I believe that is the case in many cities but Charleston is a great place to live, raise a family, and have a quality of life. I have had the pleasure of meeting a lot of my subscribers in person and have had intimate conversations about Charleston and they love it. If you want to ask specific questions then feel free to reach out to me. I am an open book and I will definitely tell you what I think and how I see it. “Real Answers” like you said. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinion. Looking forward to hearing you. 8439262007.
I am in charleston. I been here 1 week. The area I selected was Summerville to live and my apartment is southern living for sure. I think folks will like it. It's 20 mins from Charleston.
@@nicolesmith5240 I agree. I have always been cautioned by others (including some realtors), about opinions from realtors, regarding living in a certain area. Not that they aren’t trying to be open or truthful, but I was informed that they are restricted in what they are permitted to say. It is even less transparent when coming from a native of that area. Most opinions from natives are going to shrouded in subconscious biases. They love their area, they lived there so long that cultural norms are accepted, and they have developed certain coping mechanisms that newcomers will not have. It would be hard for someone who is used to diversity, to ignore being the only black person in a room, for example. How could you not feel awkward, especially if the service happens to be substandard, as it is reported to be in so many places? Bottom line, take it all with a grain of salt, and get input from a variety of sources.
Don't move there! It sucks for a black person. Seriously, if you have to ask about it then you already know it sucks & you're trying to trick yourself into believing it's ok. The place really sucks & you could get stuck in that crab bucket.

Hello... Im a new subscriber and just wanted to thank you for your tips on Charleston... Im a black single mom with 7 year old twins from Ohio. Not too sure about it but hoping Charleston would be a nice place to relocate for me in the kids... Keep me in mind if any suggestions... Thank you
@lamia Martin
Did you move/ visit there? If so, could you share your experience? I think it would be helpful for some of us.
Thanks in advance
@@Thekween-sl2wd Hello there... I did go up there to get an apartment but the apartment management kept stalling me saying it wasn't going to ready after they had previously told me when was I ready to move and I said asap so they said to turn in an application fee and a deposit and I did thinking that meant they would hold my apartment for me but unfortunately it didn't go as planned by them saying it was still nothing available...
It’s horrible here! Not progressive and highly segregated
Yes she’s working for the chamber of commerce. But I can see her going into a tank full sharks, most women will see them as pet fish. Born in SC it’s a dead giveaway if a person don’t say hello back. Watch your six. People just beware of your surroundings.
Hi what is it like in Landrum, is there a lot of racism there?
Yes
hi there
This was OK, but it didn’t really touch on where Black people hang out, gather, and if they feel as if they’re generally in an inclusive environment
Hi, thanks for sharing this video. I intend moving to Charleston sometime in August, please how can I get inconatct with you? I'd need some insights and possibly a guide to help me
Hello. I can definitely help. 8439262007 give me a call when you are ready. Thanks for watching.
Myrtle Beach is also beautiful place to live
Fix the volume! could hardly hear anything!
You didn't answer the question 🙁 This wasn't very helpful for those seeking real answers.
@@carmillarenabrown5865 u missing it. No one is seeking negative feedback. Listen we come from big cities...stick to the script.
I am in charleston. I been here 1 week. The area I selected was Summerville to live and my apartment is southern living for sure. I think folks will like it. It's 20 mins from Charleston.
@@beats4life971 do you mind sharing how much rent is?
@@focused4841 I live in Summerville...I pay for a 2 bdrm and 2 full bath ($1500) not including electric. Water and sewer is 20 bucks.
Is it too late to ask if your experience is still positive in Charleston SC?
This is a realtors way of omitting a topic 😂😂😂
Thank you for watching.
@@carmillarenabrown5865 don’t mention it anytime 🤗
As the mother of a black daughter, I appreciate your perspective on this so much. Thank you for making this video.
You’re welcome ☺️ Thank you for watching.
Friendly, we all get along.
Volume is very low
Thanks for letting me know. I checked all of my devices and they are fine. I will look more into this. Have a great weekend.
It’s not
We need more voices like yours 🙌🏼
Yes!! I don’t even consider “is it safe here?” Videos unless a black person does them lol
@@amaryisblr2235 she doesn’t even answer the question throughly, but goes around it
@@nicolesmith5240 yeah but I did further research and from what I’ve picked up it seems like this would be a good area for black people
@@nicolesmith5240 I agree.
Wow you are 😍
Not related...but that lip color looks fabulous on you!!
Thank you!!😀
Don't move there! It sucks for a black person.
Seriously, if you have to ask about it then you already know it sucks & you're trying to trick yourself into believing it's ok. The place really sucks & you could get stuck in that crab bucket.
I like black people if they are nice ,good and bad in every race.
lol. ok. i like black ppl too if they're nice ;)
Low sound!
She needs to focus on her self-awareness before creating videos
where the klan at
Nope! So is New Orleans!!
Born free and still calling yourself black 😃 ??? Probably in a biracial relationship ...
You sound crazy.
@@user-wx1de4nk7l thanks 😊 🙏🏿 (Dueteronomy 14:2 KJV) & (Dueteronomy 7:1,3 KJV). Freedom don't carry slave titles (Black, Hispanic, american Indian, West Indian, etc) forced upon by the red (like their god) people that lie and teach that they are white..
That is an antiquated and illogical conclusion. Racism exists in all races, and it is obvious in this comment.
Go touch grass
For those that have ears to hear, let THEM hear....
They taking over what’s been historically Black American areas, were I live theirs 17 different languages of people here..
It’s better when u get out in the mix an show us rather than tell us.
Their thinking better in Charleston more than a lot of places in the states.
Lololol😂
