    This is one of those videos that I know I'm most likely wrong but I can't articulate why because Genshin lore is weird. Kind of like my Dain is Pierro. It's like, that gut feeling. I made this video because people were asking me about Ei's death even though I didn't cover it in the original for the sole purpose of me being hesitant to accept the Treasured Tales as canon.
    The Book Treasured Tales is fallible, according to Ei, but to a certain point. She says that it was after the Watatsumi, which is during Orobashi, which was around the end of the Archon War. The problem is she says that after that, it becomes wishful thinking. But she never comments on the "Sacrifice of her body" which make me even more confused being completely frank. I'm inclined to believe though, like what i said in the video, that the book isn't accurate and is just vague.
    Unless we get confirmation from ei. which is even sadder.

      I have a question . If ei is dead and should no longer exist . Then if she’s alive . Wouldn’t there be some kind of reaction from tayvat and celestia . A kind of counter messer . A kind of anti body . Hmmm . What if Tayvat is not a world . But living things alive . Like a living being . What if calestia s not a heaven but a brain . And everyone except the animals .inside tayvat are basically cells . Or more accurately a parasite . The humans . Hilichruls . Abyss mages , and the archons because think about it . Tayvat layout looks more like so things internal organs . Celestia the brain . The sea the mouth . Monstad the stomach . Inazuma the liver . Sumaru the small intestines . The desert the the large intestine . The volcano the rectum . Dragonsspine the the reproductive system/ urinary tracts . The abyss the blood Velcro’s . Domains the nerves system . Lyiua the heart . And snezhnaya the sliver . This all looks like a living creature . And what would the immune system be ? Well . That seams to be the slimes and the other monsters . And visions are like cancer cells . Think about it . The world of tayvat is a living organism . And every living thing has its place inside . All but the intelligent races . Just think about it . If my theory is correct . Then the grate cataclysm amd the man eating monsters and slimes is basically the body’s way of fighting off an infection . And these devil gods are the immune system . But unfortunately the immune system haze almost fallen to the illness . So what’s a body to do . Use what it haze at its disposal . Visions . There the way to get rid of the parasites . Use the parasites to fight the other parasites then wipe those parasites out . This theory my be true

    Straight up Raiden as a whole is the least understood and most misunderstood character that has been released.
    Makoto means Truth in Japanese, she represents the Ego, the part of the self that is forward thinking driving towards the future, connecting to reality. Ei means shadow, she is the Id, the subconscious dark portion of one's mind which seeks to avoid pain and suffering. Shogun is the Super-ego, the ideal self that tries to achieve perfection, mentally, spirtually, culturally in the eyes of oneself and others.
    Makoto and Ei are one and the same, they are 2 halves of the same person, Ei losing Makoto is like a person losing half her being, she lost her true self. Shogun was created because Ei went into a deep depression, but she felt a great responsibility for her nation and wanted to carry on her sister's will. So she created Shogun as a version of herself that won't be affected by "erosion", an unfaltering perfect version as she thought. Which in actuality is more like a person with depression casting aside their emotions to try and maintain an image, a super-ego.
    But at the end of the 2nd story quest, Ei was able to talk to both Makoto and Shogun, all 3 essential parts of herself, Raiden; By reconciling all 3 parts, she has overcome her PTSD and depression after 1000 years of suffering, Raiden has become whole and is ready to bring Inazuma into the future.
    Raiden's story is about intense grief, depression and loneliness, it's about a person who didn't just become a hikkikomori and hid away, instead it's about someone who tried to find to strength to carry on despite being in pain. And in the end she pulled through and became whole, overcoming her suffering and is ready to face the future.

      Someone made an video analysis about La Signora, and mentioned similar themes that you spoke about such as the Ego (Rosalyne), Id (Witch of Flames) and the Super-Ego (La Signora)
      And if you think about it, those two are similar that they let on. Both lost people dear to them, both wtinessed the Catlacysm and suffered trauma and loss because of that event, both choose to discard their former identities and bodies to be their perfected self. Ei turned into the Raiden Shogun and Rosalyne transformed into La Signora.
      However, La Signora grow too arrogant and got too close to the Light. Defeated by the Traveller (the Star) and slayed by the Electro Archon, which how similar electricity caused death for moths.

      @@mariapazgonzalezlesme Yea Hoyoverse has recurring themes of Freudian psychology in their character design. I actually wouldn't be surprised if they actually applied it to all of their characters during their design phase.
      In Honkai there were also a couple of characters who had arcs that dealt with the ego/id/super-go, with the most prominent one being the Herrscher of Sentience. Being a character about human sentience, she was the prime character to write about Freudian psychology and the self.

    • @CelticBotansDigitalArt
      @CelticBotansDigitalArt Рік тому +54

      Oh wow, this analysis is really awesome. And both this and Aster's video gives Ei's story a lot more depth and explanations there in why she behaved like that.
      Just yesterday I wrote a lengthy commentary about why Ei is my favorite character in GI, and so is her second story. Due to knowledge I have and some heavy personal experience there, I interpreted Ei being not only in a PTSD/depression state, I think it was much more on the realm of dissociation - the Shogun doll acting like a strong, protective, functional personality to Ei's damaged, vulnerable one, hiding in her mind, unable to connect to others. She says stuff like "Waking world you seem /Woven from the stuff of dreams"; "Detached from the world". Then comes the breaking point on quest 2, the Shogun literally not letting her change, and later, Ei having to battle her - BATTLING HERSELF - for 500 years in order to move on and apply the changes she wanted. If THAT isn't some great metaphor on mental health and HOW ASTRONOMICALLY HARD IT IS to change after trauma and bad habits settled, I don't know what else it could be.
      The moment Ei and the Shogun "merge" together is the moment the identities/personas finally merge into one again and she isn't fragmented anymore. My interpretation is pretty similar to yours, and you added the awesome, heartbreaking layer that Makoto too was a vital part of her, explaining a lot - how could one function without their best aspects of their personality? Dang it. The separation and pain and trauma Ei went through by losing all her friends and her twin was already heartbreaking and it was taken to another level there.
      Also worth mentioning that Ei put her true conscience in a sword that was Makoto's, and which not only is her most incredible, God-like power - she takes it straight from her heart when she is using it. We could say that's when she's the most powerful but also most vulnerable. Thanks for the great analysis, it gave me a lot to think of!

  • @darkentePH
    @darkentePH Рік тому +212

    I think the reason Makoto can't be brought back is that instead of sacrificing her body using some "god-specific-magic", she was actually killed by someone (either by some human, monster, god or robot) and when someone is killed their soul cannot be restored. Ei destroyed herself but her soul remained intact due to her resolve and she knowing the procedures, Makoto was killed, getting an unexpected end to one soul may shatter it to a point it can't be brought back (and it problaby got turned into miasma).
    Also obviously Genshin books tends to hide some important points that can change everything, maybe Ei sacrificing herself was something both sisters prepared for and Makoto got Ei intact soul and put it into some pocket-dimension to bring it back, this kind of preparation couldn't be done to an unexpected death in a war.

      @Harry Shade Yae and Ei speculate that Makoto's power alone may not have been responsible for the Sakred Sakura plan, and the name "Istaroth" is supertext above Ei's reference to "a higher power" that may have also been involved.

    • @darkentePH
      @darkentePH Рік тому +8

      @@revjackal8782 Well, the sacred sakura is, by what we know with current info, a self contained paradox, something that is not configured for the world to keep existing and it's cycle began after Makoto dying. If Makoto didn't die then the tree wouldn't exist and Inazuma would follow another future free of timeloops.
      Maybe in the future they reveal that Istaroth made the entirety of Teyvat into a time paradox and every piece needs to play in a certain way and Makoto did know that she needed to die in order to Teyvat keep existing, but who knows.

    I think that Ei gave up her "bodily form" because, as far as we know, winning a seat in the archon war was defined by how powerful the god was. Since Makoto wasn't a warrior and Ei was more powerful and didn't want to kill her, maybe she sacrificed herself to let out the power stored in her godly vessel (because gods let out a lot of power after they die as we learn in the first zhongli quest) and let Makoto absorb it somehow, which would explain why there wasn't any damage anywhere when Ei "died". Then, Ei's will could've been stored somewhere and brought back by Makoto after ascending and then placed inside another vessel to grant her a physical body much like how the Shogun works, given by how knowledgable the Raiden twins were in the making of artificial life. It would explain why Ei couldn't do the same for Makoto when she died because her death wasn't "planned" in the cataclysm, and she couldn't retrieve her will to place her inside another body.

    Yeah this supports that gods never truly die. As for Makoto, I believe she's either in the Sacred Sakura tree or her soul is floating somewhere. I've only got examples cause the lore there is still relatively unexplored.

Infact Mora all over teyvat is circulated and managed by the fatui. if you know the harbingers then you know who i am talking about. if we were to go by your logic which is totally not accurate then that would make tsaritsa insanely powerful because making mora and having power over mora are two different things. and by the way its not just ms. aster but other lore theorists like ms ashikai also said the same thing. Ei not being able to do the same can be attributed to 1) like you said Makoto being ready to move on, 2) Makoto already in a dying state when Ei got to her, thus there being less of Makoto to save and 3) reviving Makoto would break w/e agreement she had with Istaroth so she couldn’t allow herself to be revived.

    Since the REal Ei has only been considered and addressed as a Conciousness while the Shogun only refers to herself as "it" and "this body" I had always figured that in one way or another that Ei did in fact die at some point. I'm glad that you explained this, even in theory form, because it gives me a greater understanding of when Ei most likely died. This is cool!

    an idea regarding the term 'recall' and how one sister could recall the other but when the roles were reversed it didn't work; Makoto could understand her sister's thought process even if she didn't agree with it, but there's a chance that Ei couldn't do the same making the attempts futile from the beginning. The only time she could truly understand her sister? When the Traveller showed her the outside world. This might explain how a memory of Makoto was able to talk to Ei, if Ei wanted she probably could have tethered that scrap of Makoto to the mortal plane again. But that isn't what either of them needed, nor is it what Makoto would have wanted

    This would have been some good characterization for Ei--more personal (and therefore better for the construction of empathy) and less childish than what we got. More than a layer, it would have been the core root, and the fear of erosion/time the outer layer. Because really, some universal fears like the fear of loss and time can have some hardwired/biological origin, but the most compelling and interesting fears always stem from personal situations, which lead to personally flawed survival systems..behaviors that we must follow at all costs to avoid the repetition of that terrible situation from the past.
    In what we got in the Inazuma quest, the fear of loss and fear of time (the latter of which led to Ei's plane of Euthymia) didn't connect very well to each other and to Ei's personal experience, because Ei lost her friends to war/battle/corruption, not to time. So, the decision to trying to "stop time" for her nation and herself (aka her survival system) lacks the connection to her personal experience, which isn't the best characterization.
    In this alternative version, instead, Ei would have lost Makoto not to battle, but to her memory vanishing, which she could easily have associated with erosion (even though it was mostly due to her lack of understanding of Makoto's views on existence), thus leading to her flawed survival system of isolation and stagnation as a direct solution to avoid the repetition of that experience. It makes stuff more personal, it colors fear with guilt (thus characterizing it further), and it gives an operative quality to the survival system, an attempt to reach a goal, which is also essential for the construction of empathy (maybe a part of Ei hoped that some of Makoto's will was still buried in her own mind, and by taking refuge in the plane of Euthymia she was trying to stop erosion from consuming it, while also maybe recovering it in all the meditation she did in her realm?)
    Anyhow, cool video and very well thought idea.👍

    I think the "revivability" of a person depends on the circumstances of their death. Ei gave up her physical body, but her soul remained and thats why someone with enough power and the right technique could put it back into something (like a puppet or a sword). If death is the consequence of "being killed without preparation", the soul will disperse into nothingness.
    I also think Rukkhadevata somehow tried to make preparations for the case something happens to her, but either the time was not enough, or the process of "being killed" was so taxing on the soul, that only a tiny bit remained (propably currently inside Irminsul).
    I also also think that Kusanali was part of that preparation (a vessel for Rukkhadevatas soul), and because the reincarnation never happened, this vessel (constructed through dendro archon power) gained a "self".

    OK, I might be wrong here but let me point some things I remember from the Archon Quest/Missions w/ Ei and probably w/ Yae Miko:
    1. Makoto (Baal) and Ei (Beelzebub) are/were twins.
    2. Both were Archons, but acting as if they were one, Makoto (Baal) was the ''face'', she was the one who made public appearances, talked with the people etc. and Ei (Beelzebub) was the ''sword'', she was the one who went to the battlefield and acted as the ''shadow'' of Makoto (Baal).
    3. Makoto (Baal) died in the Khaenr'ia's attack, Ei (Beelzebub) said that when she found out that Makoto (Baal) left it was too late, when Ei arrived at Khaenr'ia Makoto was dead (or was about to die, I cant remember now)
    4. Since no one knew about a twin sister, Ei returned to Inazuma and continued Makoto's work as Archon, that's probably why Zhongli and others refer to her as ''Baal'' and not ''Beelzebub''.
    5. Ei created Scaramouche and the puppet she's in now.
    That's all I remember, I might be forgeting something, if somethings wrong let me know (kindly).

      Ei and Makoto both won during the archon war however only one can ascend to celestia, take a seat and become an Archon. Ei sacrificed herself in order for Makoto to ascend and become an archon. So it's Ei who died after the archon war but was ressurected by Makoto.
      Ei is Beelzubel but after Makoto's passing, she assumed the shogunate and continued to rule under Makoto's name, Baal. Simply because it not a known fact by Inazumans that the god they worship originally had a twin and is unaware of Ei's existence. :)

Aster didn't confuse makoto that die in Khaenriah' war 500 years ago with Ei, she talked about something that older than Khaenriah' war which is archon war 2000 years ago where Ei die. I don't know if this was answered in the game or not, but was the Archon War a complete Free For All among all elements, or was it sectioned off depending on the deity's element? • @Karya_draws
      @Karya_draws 3 місяці тому

      Honestly speaking, I don't have an answer for this one either. Perhaps, they were only aware that the "victors" would become Archons. Thought, considering Ei's "sacrifice" and Makoto's ascension to Archon-hood, they probably did know that only one Archon per element would be selected, but even then can a God leave their nation to seek out foreign ones in foreign lands they had never seen and been before?
      We do know that Morax fought Osial during the Archon War and that they were not the same element, but that's it, I think? Maybe the Fontaine Archon Quest sheds some light on that. But I'm still stuck in prison sooo....

      Erosion is something every immortal seems to go through eventually zhongli himself talks about it and is one of the reasons why he steps down (and the reason why azhada changes), erosion itself is more like dementia than anything else essentially forgetting who you are or parts of yourself... as it is it's definitely a threat to eternity as ei sees it which is why she creates the automaton raiden bot as it won't erode or change with time like she will.
      At least that's how i see it.

    • @icevee686
      @icevee686 Рік тому +2

      To recap the video and some other stuff:
      The shogun that governs Inazuma day to day is the puppet that was created by Ei AFTER Makoto died. Ei hid her consciousness inside a sword and the sword inside the puppet and that possibly stops the erosion.
      Ei did in fact “die” but was brought back several thousand years ago after the Archon War
      Yae cannot become an Archon by definition since she isn’t a god. A new god will have to be born somewhere in Inazuma same as what happened in Sumeru.
      And lastly, Ei has come to terms and let Makoto go in peace during her story quest..

    My suggestion on how you can improve your presentation of the content. Even though your idea and insight on the subject are incredible, there are few things:
    (Keep in mind I'm not a lore expert, this simply might helps viewer understand your theory or overall content better and easier)
    -Split your content into section, adjust background music for the opening: most of your video is You talking for a straight up 5-10 minutes, Viewer (like me) find themselves overwhelmed with information. Check out LEMMiNO's or another genshin CC, Braxophone's video for more context.
    -What you talk vs what you put on the video are out of sync, making viewer have a splitting detail of what they should focus on thinking: For ex.: "welcome to the story of Scarlet King" *Video showed words: Who is Scarlet King?* -this often are confusing to watch. Often time your background scene in various of your video showing the same cutscene over, It'd be nice if it's relate to specific region you're talking about: *Sumeru lore - Sumeru, desert, Forest background* instead of *An Artifact image + Liyue character background*.
    Another in this video: "According to the treasure tales of the-..." *showing a book, with Cutscene background including subtitle* - Again, very confusing, It'd be easier to have a blurred cutscene with a picture showing detail of the lore you mentioned, or a cutscene showing character talking about detail you mentioned, Overall anything in-game related prove would be better. Check out VaatiVidya's Soul Lore series and his presentation for more context.
    -Putting Disclaimer and mention of your past video: This is a scary territory, we're talking about Genshin, a community that's quite notorious for its toxicity, but if you're confident in what you do, NOT putting Disclaimer and showing your evidence throughout your video is a very nice way to do, or you can put it first things in your vid. Mentioning your past content: a blurred background with exactly your previous video content Thumbnail would be very nice things to do.
    Good luck and keep up the good work.

    Its mostly speculation, but basing this on how mythology mirrors history, I think Ei was Makoto's shadow. I think its written in a way where its more fantastic, but in actuality she was just hidden away from the people, to act in secret. So when Makoto reforged Ei, I think it was more a case of her releasing her from her duty in some capacity. That said, again pure speculation on my part, it honestly could have happened the way its written considering how Genshin's world and magic are.

  • @sylas3265
    @sylas3265 Рік тому

    A week late I know I’m sorry but I have something to pose.
    So the gods are undeniably elemental beings without being granted power from celestia. Venti was a wind sprite who gained power as time went on and the people (his friend included) put their faith in his belief of freedom (not necessarily him).
    Morax, Baal, Beelzebulb, they’re all Elemental beings from BEFORE the archon war. And thanks to Andrius we know a god can give up their physical form while retaining weaker presence.
    So like you suggested, Makoto was placed into the seat of archon by Ei who willingly gave up her body but like Andrius stayed to watch over her sister. The difference being from other gods who’ve died like Gui Zhong and Havria and Makoto compared to Orobashi and others is that there’s no I’ll will OR regret.
    For example, if Havria had regret and hate in her heart when she perished then her tomb would be radiating malice. But she dearly loved her people and couldn’t even fault them for hurting her. Gui Zhong (I feel like I’m spelling it wrong) knew that Morax was becoming a wiser leader and while it hurt to die she didn’t have any regrets to keep her around either. They moved on sure that Zhongli could protect their people.
    Andrius keeps watch bc he knows Venti…. No offense to the bard but he’s pretty sleepy and fairly slow to act. Andrius has been a presence helping to protect Monstadt in its archons absence despite most people not realizing it. This also makes him a target to the abyss but he doesn’t see his duty as done.
    The same could be seen with Ei. Yes Makoto was the better one to guide the people but Ei couldn’t just leave her. And so her spiritual energy, residue, ghost, stayed around until Makoto could trace her an outline. A body of sorts for Ei to inhabit that wasn’t technically her full godly strength. Similar to how when we fight Andrius he forms himself out of the mist for our training but he’s not actually destroyed when we’re done, he just dissipates.
    And the moment Makoto lost herself in Khanriah she was certain (thanks to time shenanigans and Istaroth) that Ei would be a wonderful leader… eventually-.-¡ anyways she could leave her power and body behind for Ei to truly inhabit. No longer an outline. And bc she was certain in herself and had placed her recording in the sword, she could fade happily.
    Sumeru is probably gonna explain more as we get into 3.1 but this is very fascinating.
    Oh and for the record, I think Orobashi didn’t hate his people but celestia for forcing him to partake in the battle hence his residue, and Decarabian also didn’t hate his people, he thought he was doing right by his version of freedom and when they won out he couldn’t hold their will against his own. Hence the lack of malice in Monstadt.

    Can we truly read that line that Ei actually died? Maybe its actually mean that Ei sacrificed her own identity to be Makotos double? And when Makoto ascended to bring Ei back, it actually speak of Makotos death which would bring back Eis own identity so she could be herself again?
