    Denry goes infinite with persist creatures and sac outlet. Glen Eladra Archmage, for example.
    Oskar bypasses casting timing, so it technically turns your cards into madness.

    Nooo oskar is great. A discard outlet lets you cast any spell at instant speed. Secrets of the dead lets you draw each card through him as well. not to mention his low casting cost! He becomes nuts with the already broken necromancy and doomsday/necrologia

    I actually feel like Oskar is a good commander, and is a little disappointed in how you are down playing him. You can get all the good discard synergies plus adding all the "leave the graveyard"/"cast from graveyard" effects. You'll have stuff like Bone Miser and Archfiend of Ifnir to work with the discard but you also have stuff like Syr Konard and Secrets of the Dead that works with the graveyard. Drain all your opponents lives with faith of the devoted while getting tokens with drake haven or dying to serve you. Yes, you don't get the cost reduction like madness has but you are not limited to only madness cards, you are not limited by timing restrictions, and you are in blue. You get some really good discard outlets in blue like mind over matter or compulsion that works perfectly with what you are trying to do. Anouther direction you could go with is more of a control route. Cards like kozilek or hisoka where you can counter your opponents stuff and still get value out of your card. I can keep going on...

    the new vampire tribal commander i actually really like, because it's the first one they printed that wasn't a vampire tribal commander that basically read "this is my commander because I can't afford or refuse to play a $100 edgar" and just based on that she's one of the best commanders from this set in my book

    I'm running Ziatora in my Kresh deck. I already sacrifice and kill a bunch of creatures, and another Fling is always a good thing, especially when I grab an opponent's big creature with something like Traitorous Blood.

  • @malmasterson3890
    @malmasterson3890 2 роки тому +6

    Surprised to not see Henzie on this list at all, as I think he's even better than Ziatora. I've only played a few games with him with about 50 dollar budget upgrades and I was keeping up with and even outpacing borderline cEDH decks like comboless Blood Pod & Dina Storm. The amount of card advantage and burn the precon does just on it's own is so punishing already, slap in Gary with stuff like Impact tremors & Meren and you're consistently dealing a ton of damage that's incredibly hard to deal with.

    Really, people think Denry is bad? Get an indestructible counter on it and suddenly you start building an indestructible board. Put a hexproof counter on it, start building a hexproof board. Put a +1/+1 counter on it, your persist creatures are now infinite (due to the +1/+1 counter and the -1/-1 counter that they get after they die canceling out)... Put a -1/-1 counter on it, your undying creatures are now able to go infinite. I fail to see how it is bad...

    • @Bongus_Bubogus

      I’m personally down on it because it isn’t in green. You’re missing so many counter synergies it’s kinda ridiculous. For example, easiest way to get a hexproof counter by far would be with Slippery Bogbonder. Want to double those counters? Sorry, all the Doubling Season effects are in green. Even the best persist cards and synergies are in black. So to me, I’m disappointed in the colors of the commander for the mechanics it promotes. Flavor wise, it’s good though. It also has future potential. It’s certainly not bad, but disappointing. I just don’t see myself running right now. That’s my perspective.

    • @fallendeus
      @fallendeus 2 роки тому

      @@Bongus_Bubogus True about the hexproof counter, I forgot that "Fate Transfer" is a fucking hybrid dimir card not just blue. If it was just blue that would be perfect. That being said, if they do ever make a blue, white, or even azorius card that works like Fate Transfer then you are in business cause the only other source of hexproof counters is in blue. As for persist, blue has arguably the best persist card there is with Glen Elendra Archmage. A repeatable 1 mana Negate? Yeah sign me up for that. Still you can spread indestructible counters, that alone is fucking insane. Combine that with white's penchant for board wipes you can keep building a board while you keep destroying your opponents board. Yeah it doesn't seem extremely strong atm and can and likely will only get better with time but it really isn't the worst by any means. Shit the pheonix commander they released is overall much worse than this one.

    • @Bongus_Bubogus
      @Bongus_Bubogus 2 роки тому

      @@fallendeus If you just want to give indestructible to everything, you can always just play the usual Avacyn, it’s gotta be more reliable than going through the hoops of playing your commander and getting an indestructible counter on it, *then* running out your creatures. And other than the infamous Glen Elendra, what else is a good persist card in the other ~66 slots? All I see is River Kelpie and Twilight Shepherd, and they aren’t that busted. So you have 3 persist creatures. It’s the lack of support like that which makes me not want to build the deck.

    Your take on oskar is sooo bad
    This is an insane commander of reanimator/control because it gives all your spells flash
    This is absolutely insane, you can cast a wrath with flash or reanimate a jin gitaxias at the end of your opponent turn and force him to discard his whole hand...
    And there are a ton of cool and powerful other interactions with him
    Nb : the popularity of a commander isnt a good indicator to know if a commander is good bad.

    i wish they made giada white/black instead of mono white, there's a bunch of nice WB/mono black angels out there, and i've had my etched liesa (the cool one from commander legends, not the midnight hunt one) for AGES now and i couldn't think of a single deck to make or put her in (she's probably better as a commander than the 99 anyways because of her ability to pay life instead of mana for the commander tax), but now i'm honestly considering angel tribal with liesa at the helm. just kind of a shame that you have to stick to white if you wanna build with giada as the commander, but she'd definitely go well in the 99 i think, long as you have ways to consistently get her on the field early to midgame

    Are you misevaluating Urabrask? You still get your normal draw in addition to the playable exiled card, while your opponents do not (replacement effect). Seems good to me, even without Prosper.
    *edit: when back and saw that you do realize it - specifically mentioned it. I guess it just comes down to an extra draw for you and the occasion when your opponents lose a draw because they can't play it...but that will only happen early in the game, so I guess I see where you're coming from*

    • @msump99
      @msump99 2 роки тому

      I say he is mis-evaluating Urabrask making the arguement that your opponents still get to cast the card. I say don't overlook that, if it means less cards in their hand they can wait to cast, or hitting something they currently can't cast, is all upside.

    A hidden downside to Oskar is that unlike Madness, the cards do hit the graveyard. Which means, a single Rest In Peace effect completely hoses your deck and makes your commander essentially a vanilla creature. While it’s cool to potentially cheese timing restrictions, I cannot recommend anyone to play Oskar without a ton of removal that doesn’t rely on the discard synergies.

    • @TheSlaughterJoker

      A hidden downside to Muldrotha, the cards do hit the graveyard. Which means, a single Rest In Peace effect completely hoses your deck and makes your commander essentially a vanilla creature. While it's cool to play things out of your graveyard, I cannot recommend anyone to play Muldrotha without a ton of removal that doesn’t rely on your graveyard.

    • @Bongus_Bubogus
      @Bongus_Bubogus 2 роки тому

      @@TheSlaughterJoker You can still play Muldrotha decks completely normally without even using the graveyard. In fact, lots of builds are just straight up goodstuff Sultai that has the yard as your second hand. Oskar decks, however, will have you play plenty of cards that are being pitched and discard outlets, which means your deck would be more recked than usual for a graveyard deck if your plan is to utilize getting around timing restrictions.
      In addition, a main point of my post is to compare Oskar’s ability to Madness, as Madness gets around RIP effects by exiling the cards *before* they hit the graveyard, while Oskar has the cards actually hit the graveyard, and so succumb to those effects. So if people wanted to run this type of strategy, I’d recommend Madness decks over Oskar in a vacuum. Of course, you get blue and white, but the deck isn’t Madness and comparing the two is incorrect.
      I completely understand why you want to mock this type of post, it’s something that should go without saying, and the whole “dies to removal” shebang, but in this particular case I just want to warn people what they should expect before they play this card, not to have misconceptions, unless my assessment is wrong? Should people not care about running removal?

    • @TheSlaughterJoker
      @TheSlaughterJoker 2 роки тому

      @@Bongus_Bubogus I don't see comparison to madness as a good assessment beyond the mechanic is similar and they will have some similar payoff cards, even in a vacuum. Madness has a limited card pool while oskar opens it up to pretty much anything in it's color. I do agree that the graveyard part is limitation to account for (and people should be running removal, who ever said they shouldn't?), I just see the flexibility of a larger card pool outweighing that downside.

    • @Bongus_Bubogus
      @Bongus_Bubogus 2 роки тому

      @@TheSlaughterJoker Well, if you play Oskar, pack enough enchantment removal for Rest In Peace and Leyline of the Void, they’re the most common graveyard hate, and keep counters up if that type of effect is stapled onto a new commander (think new Liesa, it’s effect is creeping close to something that hurts this deck).
      You don’t get a discount on discarded spells, you lose the Madness synergies, you lose the crucial exile protection of Madness, you lose red, you may gain blue (some Madness decks are already in Grixis), you gain “leaves the graveyard” synergies, and your commander can be just 2 mana. That’s the differences that annoy the crap out of me with all the people who say Oskar = Dimir Madness. You sir/madam may know these differences, but plenty of people are still chanting that phrase and I hate it, which is why, as a Madness player, I want to dissociate Oskar from Madness.
