Even after discharge, conscripts remained on the reserve force for another four years, and were liable to recall in the event of an emergency.
Here in Denmark you remain in the reserve force till you're 50 years old.
Commissar r u in reserves rn
In Singapore, it is until 40 for Men, NCOs, and 50 for Commissioned officers.
I read that in a simple history voice

My friend s grandpa join it for 1 year because of damage on leg and he said to him that prison was kinda better than there
Simple History my country has conscription for males. aged 18 and above for 2 years
Simple History my grandfather did 2 years national service in the navy, liked it so much he stayed for a further 36 years and retired with the rank of lieutenant commander, very interesting stories about the Falklands and the cold war.
All my relatives volunteered for service not one was conscripted.
My grandfather served from "56 to "58 repairing artillery from suez
I was called up in the RAF age 20 after a 2 year deferment and posted to Kenya in 1953. A great posting, teeming with wild game and dramatic scenery. I discovered first hand, how other people lived and their vastly different culture. Kenya, provided a great opportunity for me. I stayed there after Demobilization and employed in a Managerial Position strait from the RAF. I gained skills which enabled me to develop an overseas career and live in different countries and eventually retired comfortably in Thailand. National Service was a Godsend.
The animations and illustrations look very much improved

"BRING BACK NATIONAL SERVICE!!!"
...says all those born in the 50's and 60's who didn't actually serve xD
bring back national service say I born a millennial
RED D yea it's funny, all these baby boomer Americans who never served always talk and talk about mandatory military service
@@ViktoriousDead many if them also larped during Vietnam and protested the draft
@@ViktoriousDead people who think there's some great spiritual or economic crisis that can be solved with a military or civil service are just projecting their own alienation from society. *They* might benefit from having someone structure their every waking moment but the rest of us are adjusting fine 🤣

*WWII Factions: The Finnish Army* or the *Hakkapeliitta*?
we need desmond doss history :D
taylor anderson did you mean hacksaw ridge
taylor anderson he saved 75 men including a few Japanese
Randy Cheow not about the hacksaw ridge about him the legendary medic..
Randy Cheow No.
taylor anderson Hacksaw means that you can't doing something, war, killing etc. over religion. so back in WW2 men who believed in a curtain religion that says killing is a sin, has the choice to go to war
My grand father did National Service in Japan and he loved it.
Always love your animations. Makes learning history so much more enjoyable😀
In Brazil is still mandatory, however, 70% of the enlisted are dismissed. I wanted to join, i will finish my mandatory year soon.
good luck
Best thing that ever happened to British 18 year olds. My grandad served in Egypt and loved it, he found it a very valuable experience. So did my mum's uncle, who served in Italy, Egypt and Malta.
My mums dad was drafted into National Service in 1950s and was in Royal Air Force he went out to Korea and fought in the Korean War and after it was over he later worked for BBC doing bill boards and posters my dads dad joined Territorial Army in 1963 after National Service ended and was in 131 Parachute Engineer Regiment, 131 LAD REME and was a recovery mechanic and went out to Cyprus for two weeks for annual camp Exercise New Venture in later life he was a Sea Cadet Officer and taught engineering I remember both my grandads talking about army days certainly stayed with them my dads fathers father also served he was in Second World War.
My Grandad had to do national service. He was never in combat but he drove a couple of armored cars and was stationed in Germany for a while.
My grandfather was punished and was made to paint pieces of coal white.
ogogo ogpgpg they shoved it up their assholes
@steve gale I wouldn't know about that, during basic training I was told to colour stones red around our camp as a punishment, stuff like that happens all the time
@steve gale IDF, speak for yourself, I don't even own an Xbox
@steve gale kek live in your own fantasy, I'm currently a Sargent in the IDF artillery corps, Division 215, Battalion 55, Battery C
Currently stationed near the Egyptian border.
If you have any more questions I'd love to answer a young fellow like you ;)
@steve gale good on you buddy I'm glad you had a fun time.
Now next time you go crusading on the internet make sure you have any idea of what you are talking about, instead of immediately denying anything said to you.
The world is big outside so try to open your mind and your eyes.
Good day lad
Can you do the anglo-zulu war?
+Luke Almond The Germanic-zulu war!
An 48 minutes war
Boer War!!
Ja broer
No do algerian civil war
I love this channel so much!
gotta love the signals cap badge
Will you do a video about the Musketeers?
The post-war BREN had a straight magazine (the ones chambered for 7,62x51 Nato). The L1A1 was in 7,62x51, and I don´t think they mixed old .303-chambered small arms and the 7,62x51 in the same squad. Just a minor detail.
Awesome video you guys are better then my history class and I have only been subed for a month I have 'learned more here in month then year
My grandfather was conscripted during the 1950s to West Berlin. He had no interest in joining up and all of the soldiers were really under equipped according to him. He even said that during patrols, they wouldn’t be given any ammunition in their rifles, so even if a firefight broke out, they wouldn’t stand a chance. I’m glad it has since been scrapped though.
My grandfather to was conscripted and went to Korea and fought in Korean War I need to speak to him for more information.
love your vids ❤❤
Can you make a video about Malayan Emergency?
Yea
My late grandad did this after making boilers for war vessels during WW2, he said it was the worst 2 years of his life.

This is great! Could you do one about the Green Berets? It would be nice, since my great grandfather was a Green Beret.

My grandmas cousin was conscripted into the British army.

Oh yes! My grandfather was a guerilla, and one of my distant relatives was a doctor who aided them.
DeathWatch _ Nice.
DeathWatch _ also very interested in this

DeathWatch _ u mean the scout rangers?
I got an Army Uniform ad and additionally Sherlock and Holmes in that ad, very nice
I like that you have the Royal signals cap badge
We need to know more about the Belgian army in WW1!
National Service corporal: *yells at recruit*
Nice vids
My grandfather and great uncle served in national service. So did nearly every man in my village.
when will you do the Irish Defense forces and the Gurkha?
Can we aknowledge that he is using the royal signals as the cap badge for these soldiers in this video legend👑👑👌👌
My dad currently serving in Royal signals and I hope to serve in deme some day
i noticed the cap badge was the royal signals. my dad was one of them
MY Granddad did his service in the early years. He ultimately ended up serving in Germany and enjoyed it from what he told me. He did tell me one funny story about him and a mate skiving and nearly getting caught haha.
My grandfather finished his national service just before the Korean War started
Two thirds of those who served in the Korean War were Nat Service and almost 400 were killed in action
The cap badge is the royal signal
Simple History, you should do an episode on the development of Mountbatten pink. It was a camouflage paint that was meant to make naval ships invisible at night.
Both of my Grandfather's servered in America's draft. One of my Grandfather's went nearly deaf in one ear when he was practicing using his rifle and one of his earplugs fell out.
Simple history.
Today is June 6 or D-day. 73 years ago on June 6 1944 many great nations (including Canada :) fought the German forces in Normandy France. Today the sacrifice of the many brave men is still remembered and it will for the years to come.
Can you do a military episode of Singapore
May I ask why all of the troops have Signals cap badges on their berets? Do they change the cap badge every video?
Battle of vimy ridge please
We need this again.
We really don't.
wot? and break their fragile little entitled souls? no sir, we can't have that, no sir!
Here we still have this
Any reason to way you used the royal signals cap badge
I saw that you guys did the Viet Cong in the last video, and I was wondering if you guys could do the IRA.
There's a difference between terrorists and freedom fighters, besides the English slew thousands of Irish for no reason. In fact it was said that it was alright to kill an Irishman in Ireland like a dog, but it was illegal to kill an Englishman in Ireland.
FaZe DOGE the Ulster Volunteer Force and the Royal Ulster Constabulary killed more civilians than the Irish Republican Army
Nobody murdered more people than the IRA did during the Troubles.
Stock Image Freeaboo All Republican paramilitaries are responsible for 2060 casualties during the Troubles:
727 Civilians
1080 British Security Forces
187 Republican paramilitaries (inclusive of accidents, informers and feuds)
56 Loyalist paramilitaries.
10 Irish security.
(cain.ulst.ac.uk/sutton/crosstabs.html Enter "Status Summary" as the first variable & "Organisation Summary" and the second.)
35% of the people killed by Republicans were civilians. The designation civilian in this summary is inclusive of politicians (25 killed), prison officers (22 killed), suspected informers (who weren’t members of Republican paramilitaries) and accused criminals who were killed by Republicans acting as vigilantes. However the majority of civilians are those completely uninvolved who were caught up in bombings/shootings.
The above figures are inclusive of all Republican groups up to 1999 (PIRA, OIRA, INLA, IPLO, IPLO Belfast and the RIRA) Omagh is included. By 1999 the CIRA had killed no one. The figures also include all civilians deaths perpetrated by Republican’s using cover names such as Direct Action Against Drugs, Republican Action Force, Catholic Reaction Force ect.
The figures for the Provisional IRA are as follows. The PIRA caused the deaths of 1711 people:
512 Civilians
1012 British Security Forces
141 Republican paramilitaries
39 Loyalist Paramiltaries
7 Irish security
(cain.ulst.ac.uk/sutton/crosstabs.html enter "Status" as the first variable and "Organisation" as the second)
29.9% of the people killed by the PIRA were civilians.
Loyalist paramilitaries killed 1016 people during the Troubles:
868 Civilians
14 British Security
41 Republican paramilitaries.
93 Loyalist paramilitaries (mostly feuds, some accidents)
85.43% of people killed by Loyalists were civilians. 4.7% of the people killed by Loyalists were Republican paramilitaries. That figure includes Republicans who were ex-paramilitaries. Loyalists killed more civilians then anyone during the Troubles.
Whether you think the IRA are terrorists or not, the fact remains that it wasn't the objective of the IRA to kill civilians. Military targets are fair targets during a war.
Dimbles you're right, I'm not defending everything the IRA did. There really weren't any "good guys" in the troubles. It was a horrible time with otherwise normal people doing evil things to push an idea. I'm just trying to point out that the IRA aren't the only ones who should be criticised.
0:07 cute cat
Nice to see the Signals Jimmy.

You forgot to mention that the Royal Marines were always volunteers, never conscripts.
Nathan Benson
You are oof right
Not so. Royal Marines did have National Servicemen. NS was a recruiting tool to provide the military with the manpower needed to do what the politicians required of them. Not many in RN or RM as they had better volunteer recruitment figures so not so many extras (NS men) needed. There was absolutely no difference between NS men and regulars (volunteers) who signed on for anything between 3 and 22 years, in terms of uniform, badges, kit, training and duties - apart from the pay! After 12 weeks basic training I was selected for officer training and, after another 16 weeks at Officer Cadet School was commissioned as as a 2nd Lt and joined a crack infantry battalion in Germany as a platoon commander alongside both regular and NS officers and soldiers
A lot of famous people did national service. Henry Cooper (he learned to box in the army), Paul Daniels, Bruce Kent to name but a few.
Could you choose in which corps you go ?
Between army, navy and air force ?
it is Time to Belgian army ww1
The_Wot_Blitz__ Gamer they had one they even held of the germans for a long period of time before getting overran
The Belgian army is one of the reasons the Schlieffen plan didn't work. The Germans hadn't anticipated Belgian resistance, or at least not as severe. This slowed them down by several days which gave the Allies(mostly the French) the precious time they needed to get their forces organised.
I dont see the diference between slave work and conscription
At least with conscription you get money if you survive
Commander Harrington the modern definition of slavery is not unpaid work, so it is still slave work
Good videos
Love your channel. Please do the Philippine Army (WWII) and the Bataan Death March (April 9 1942).

Any Singaporean male here, currently in national service?
Me,
What do you guys think of the British??
@@keithwatson1384 British people are fun to hang around with, they tell funny stories and stuff.. .i have got a cousin who lives in the UK and he once brought a British friend over to Singapore while he was on holiday, and we had a meal together and he shared about how certain aspects of British life is similar to that of Singapore...pretty cool guy...
Other than that, I find British people to be incredibly patriotic and proud of their heritage, which is a great thing and they seem to be very disciplined and hardworking, as well as outgoing
@@newswithdcruz4277 I guess Singapore wouldn't be what it is today without British idealologies like Stamford Raffles! Sorry we about the whole WW2 thing though, we didn't do a good job their!
