In the province of Québec, lots of people knows the bravery of Léo Major. In the english speaking part of Canada no one ever heard of Léo, not even militaries. I have personally witness more recognition at the international about french speaking Royal 22e Regiment than anywhere in english speaking Canada. there's , statues, memorial and plaque in french about the bravery and or collaboration all around Europe even in Colorado Spring NORAD base about the 22e regiments and others franch speaking regiments. Nothing about that in Canada, only in Québec like they say.....

There is some details that was missing. The famous hill 355 was lost by 10 000 americans. When Léo was asked to take it, he requested carte blanche on the operation, choosing the men he trained himself and asked for a bottle of rhum and 8 days leave for each of them.
He faced in total 14 000 men, holding the line for 3 days before being replaced by other canadians. He suffered no loss and only one injured. And despite his painful back from Holland, Léo took care by himself to bring the soldier down the hill on his own shoulders.
Remember kids, he's not a canadian, he is a french canadian, he is a quebeccer and one of the greatest war hero of all time!

I had a short correspondance with his son before he died of cancer. He wrote tghat his dad never spoke of his military achievements. His son had to find out about Leo from a third party and then had trouble believing the stories until Léo broke down and told him first hand what and how he did it. The whole family travelled to the Netherlands and Holland where the city of Zwolle named a main boulevard of the town in Léo's honor.

That's funny because I wrote an email to the Infographics Show at about the same time and didn't know yours was coming out too. You got luckier, Simple History's video is admittedly of better quality and without any cheesy humor, but I am glad we got both them to be made anyway. The Infographics Show one is still perfectly okay to me in its own Infographics Show kind of way and I thank the great team of people who made it. It also got 2.8 million views, a bit less but still really awesome.

@@Compteauhasard That's interesting. I looked again at that video and that channel said that they received the suggestion in february 2019. So we had the same idea and sent our emails around the same time (early march 2019 for me).
I was checking Léo's story for a few months at that time. I had watched a documentary in french and got a book about him during christmas 2018. I knew that simple history would be interested by the subject.

Their notable tactics of this type "walking in mortars/presisghting mortars" are seen in WW1 in the battle of Vimy Ridge as a prime example.
