The most I credible is that Leo never told anyone about his exploits he live a simple life without ever bragging about his time in the army. His wife and family came to know about his exploits when the people of Zwolle wanted to commemorate his exploits and managed to find him and invite him to the Netherlands and only then did we hear about what he had done. By the way he was for Québec's independence.

Fun fact : he was interviewed after his second medal by René Lévesque, who to this day remains one of the most influential and important people in Québec history.
