Whats great about this video is that I can see what everything looks like without tearing my truck all apart. Thank you!
That was my goal haha. Glad it helped!
I’m the proud owner of a 2001 4WD extended cab 7.3 that I’ve owned for over 6 months and your channel has definitely been a goldmine of information for me, thanks for sharing your journey. I will definitely be on it with you.
Love my 2003 crew 7.3. I’ve had since 2008. Best money I ever spent. I got 153,000 on it now.
I'm stoked that I found your channel Joe. Thanks for all the great info. Glad to see some 7.3 peeps
I appreciate it!
@@LivingOnWheels i have a problem in my 1999 f350 diesel there is white smoke and i dont know whats the problem
@@gustavomendoza2552 Need a better description then that. White smoke when it starts, when its idling, all the time, lots of smoke, little haze?
@@LivingOnWheels the truck start normal runs and drives but white smoke comes out 1st mechanic tell me i was screens i change them and nothing still doing the same then other mechanic tell me the glowplugs and i change them all and nothing the white smoke is when i start and idle also
Alot of smoke all the time
My hats off to you sir. I'm 6'2" and I have to use a step ladder and a cinder block to work under the hood. Good job buddy.
Easily the best series on 7.3's on YT. Thank you so much
He's great, I really like bayou diesel too, if your 7.3 is really really really effed up, hah.
Subscribed. just bought a 90k mile 2001 7.3... I see myself buying many mods on your shopping list. Had a stock 7.3 10 years ago, glad to see people are still loving them!
They are awesome trucks to drive!
Still are in 2023! 🤘🏼
Great video. I think a good subject would be to talk about the challenges of the chair and the fact that your doing difficult mechanical work. It may help us to find ways to work on our trucks with challenging physical impairments. Thanks for sharing your truck.
Beautiful truck! Totally understand pride and joy in the 7.3...
How did you get the threads out of the nut on the fuel line?
Just got a 7.3 after doing a lot of reading and selling my 2019 f250. Subscribed to your channel. Thanks for the work man.
Damn.... You just set yourself up for lots of issue free miles. New trucks suck
My truck is red truck just identical to yours except mine the 250 is an 2001 model. Like you when I first got it, it was pouring fuel all over the motor. And friend of mine come down from Dallas to East Texas where I live to visit his mother and grandmother and he came by and said he could fix it in just a few seconds. so I let him he put an o-ring on the end of that rubber ring that you called what they put in yours. However, what they put on mine was cone shaped. but it would not stop the leak. when he put the o-ring on to fit the copper that was going into it he only tightened it up with his hands and barely tightened the wrench up less than a quarter of a turn it has not leaked since and that was 5 years ago. And I'm very particular of the fuel I run as well.So I don't have to worry about it being dirty. Great show enjoyed what you showed us. Keep up the great work.
How do you know the quality of diesel fuel you are getting? Take a fuel sample and look at it or what
@@jamesbush4568 you can have it tested. I buy what runs best.
Appreciate the video. About to rebuild my fuel filter bowl, the pressure regulator on the return line is leaking.
Wish I found this video before I install my engine Just starting having Starting trouble
losing its prime overnight
Great job on the video have watched some before and subscribed while watching the first one like the way you do your videos not yelling and blasting music just straight forward information that most anyone can understand, Best of luck to you!!
You are one cool cat! Very enlightening and easy to understand. You could probably make a great automotive teacher at a school. Great job my brother
I appreciate it!
I would guess the most common problem with the Fuel Pressure Regulator return fitting may have to do with (over)torque. I know I over-torqued mine and sheered it. I initially (and mistakenly) saw it as a flare fitting (metal to metal connection like in plumbing or brakes) and torqued it good... so it wouldn't leak. After breaking it I realized that it's a rubber compression fitting and really doesn't need much torque. Just pay attention to where the rubber compression gasket in there sat and put it back the same way. I'm sure there's a torque spec but I will just say in my experience... it's a half turn or so beyond finger tight.
Awesome video thanks for the info
Hi joe , my name is also Joseph I'm getting a 2003 7.1 from my father in he bought it new I'm very excited since he's giving me the truck with only 85 k on it so it looks like all be watching your channel keep up the good work
Joseph Cusick dang man! That’s a pretty awesome gift! It’s hard to find 7.3s with that mileage nowadays!
Really cool vid. Very helpful to me being new to the 7.3... You do a great job explaining, and really showing stuff. THANKS!

Thanks. I couldn't figure out that that plug was. Previous owner unplugged the heater
Glad I could help you figure it out.
Thanks for the information. I have a f350 OBS. I like what you did with your fuel bowl delete, so I'm gonna see if I can do that to mine.
Always great information. Thanks.
Honestly your one of the reasons I bought one of these trucks and I've loved it since taking ownership ship of it 🤠🤠🤠🇺🇸
Congrats on the rig man. They really are great trucks!
Great explanation thanks
Just got a 7.3 a couple weeks ago. Thank you for all the information!
I subbed now
Congrats on the new rig!

Awesome video man, thank you for that info! I feel the same way about the goal of my channel. It’s mostly about my 7.3 for now but I want a lot more cool toys and stuff I can put on the channel down the line🤘🏻🔥
I already got fass so I went with dead full cnc block in valley. Wish I would of seen your video . Going an additional $700 with Dieselsite regulated return delete.
Good video just ran into it looking at obs, nice. I got 96 7.3 have had sence new done most work myself but 73 now dont feel good anymore a real pain for me but its my only trans. Keep up the good work
Thanks for your videos. Headed to local Ford dealer for a fuel heater. Cheers
I have a messy valley but not as bad as many , it was clean as a whistle til i had it changed
Thanks! Super helpful. Love the setup in your truck! Very interested to install in my own
Great job my brother
Great video. Love the 7.3 content.
You helped me out a bunch. Thanks buddy. Cool channel!
Awesome video I’ve never seen this out of the truck. I was wondering what the quick disconnect wire was
As you can tell from my comment I am not very learned on the 7.3 ford power stroke engine. I finally came across you video, and WHAM, there was the answer I have been hunting for. So my question to you is this, if I eliminate the fuel bowl, what mods or changes do I have to do? I have been trying to find out why I am losing fuel out of this “ drain line” . The truck does not get driven very much, and I fired it up today to let it run and charge the batteries, circulate the fluids, etc. Saw something leaking profusely on the passenger side of the engine. Okay , after some checking things out I found this drain line, but could not determine where the hell it was originating from. Didn’t pull anything from the engine to further investigate without trying to determine what , why and where this line starts stops. Is this a common issue? What caused it to dump the fuel, and how do I repair it??? Your feedback is MUCH APPECIATED!
Yes this is a very common thing on the 7.3s. It’s just old o-rings that have failed cause the fuel bowl to leak out of the drain valve on the back of the fuel bowl. Unless you’re planning on doing a lot of modifications to the truck I would keep the factory bowl in place. I actually have a video series on how to completely rebuild/reseal your fuel bowl. Not a bad job at all. I’ll link that below for you to check out.

Good job bro love the new camera man
I'm new here but you got me. I appreciate you
Glad to have you
Good info ,,,, well put, easy to understand , thats a nice lookin truck ,my favorite color ,, mine is a 01 and bright red
I really appreciate your video very detailed had no idea there was so many problems with the fuel bowl thanks buddy and by the way definitely subscribed
Great vid. Nice truck. New subscriber here
I like the content and I sure do love my 7.3 I got a 2001
My econoline is leaking and im hoping its the drain valve or some fuel bowl o ring based on what you say. Didn't leak until it got cold here today. I knew this buying it and not a big deal at all as i got it for a great price and was maintained well over its life i was told and believe based on the back story.. (442k miles). I look forward to working on it anyway.
It’s pretty common for the drain valve to start leaking when it gets cold. I think you’re on the right track
@@LivingOnWheels Cool deal. Ima look at it soon. Gotta pull the air intakes off to see anything in the van lol.
@@LivingOnWheels-- Thanks for putting this video together. This past winter when we had temperatures well below zero my fuel leak problem was really bad. Fuel would run off the back of the engine until the engine warmed up. I need to repair or replace the fuel bowl on my 2000 F250.
I have the same year and model as you. I am a somewhat new viewer but i was wondering if you have tips on the next upgrade I should do for my truck. I currently have a 4" straight pipe and an AFE big boost intake. I am 20 and I am trying to learn as much as I can. by the way this is a great video and you have great content on the channel.
You're awesome
Thanks I’ve been wondering how the fuel system works. I’ve got an OBS so it’s a little different. I might buy a pack of the orings for the fuel lines to keep in the glove box.
yeah. The obs system is a little different but I don't think its too far off. I just checked riff raff and it does look like they also use the strange Viton O-rings. They are pretty cheap so not too bad to keep on hand. I keep a full O-ring kit for my HPOP and my fuel bowl (when I had it) on hand just in case. Got stranded in the middle of Wyoming 2 years ago because of one O-ring on my HPOP.
That’s a good idea. These trucks are great but you have to be prepared. I take mine on trips for thousands of miles with the kids. When I bought the truck the guy gave me about $400 in spare parts. Now I understand lol.
@@Cfass1 haha yeah. They really are good trucks, with just a few Achilles heels. Just takes one of those things going out while not being prepared to start having a very bad day. I learned that the hard way hahaha
@Living On Wheels Keep up the great videos man I am now subscribed. Reading through the comments and curious to know was it the o-ring on the ipr valve that left you stranded?
@@carterkastel7735 I appreciate the support. It was actually the O-ring on the rear drain plug.
O-Ring set part number F81Z 9C387 BA. I found it at the Ford dealership. $30
O-ring set
Good video bro
I cannot find Part 1. I have a 1995 7.3 that leaks fuel. great video thanks
Part 1 is about the cps.
Keep up the great work on these posts, AND, your truck looks great. 👍👍👍. 11-10-21
Thanks for the post !
good video. you’ve been a solid resource for everything about this truck. call me crazy, but i actually ended up running a super duty 7.3 fuel system from electric pump to bowl to hpop reservoir on my obs. reason being is that, while the super duty bowls have their problems, they’re cleaner and easy to access compared to the obs bowls and mechanics lift pumps. plus, i had it at my disposal from a 7.3 and it cost about 100 bucks to rebuild it completely through diesel o rings. so i don’t see it leaking anytime soon, but it’s a good, cheap step in the right door if i ever wanted to do a bowl delete and regulated return. this way i wasn’t spending a ton of money up front, and i’m already getting healthier fuel pressure to the truck. i’m not going for speed either so i think it’ll be beneficial
I wouldn't call you crazy at all. I would absolutely run the super duty system over the obs system. For $100 I'd say you made a great upgrade.
@@LivingOnWheels yep, and it’s getting an intercooler, 66/88 gtp38, 180/0 full force injectors and a 1023 tuned hydra. i wasn’t going for power, but i blew up my injectors going over a mountain pass and figured “ah what the hell. if it’s worth doin, it’s worth overdoing” haha!
i’m practically super duty converting my truck at this rate
@@MCatwar The trap we all fall into hahaha. Should be a very nice upgrade.
@@LivingOnWheels i sure hope so. I'm not sure when I'll do the turbo and intercooler, because then I'd need super duty up pipes too. for now, it's getting the fuel system, injectors and a tune. maybe I'll make some forum posts or videos on it when its done haha
Good info bud. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
Man I appreciate the info on this brother 💪🏽
I am glad! I try to get good info out there for you guys.
Good job & nice truck! I have an early 99 f350,4x4 dually with a 6 speed manual trans. I would like to do the fuel bowl delete as well.
There are a number of very nice options out there with the fuel bowl delete.
Rangemasterken I have build date 1/99 myself. Was wondering something you might be able to help me with. The fuel lines supply and return, to replace you have to drop alt. Power steering pump and big alum bracket and pull. Can I put fuel hose and hose clamps instead of routing the two steel lines down the way they are factory mounted? Thanks for any help
I did the blue spring mod now I’m getting 80-85psi. The only thing else done to my truck is fuel bowl stand pipe check valve delete and 180/00 injectors
Nice! Personally that’s probably a little higher than I’d want to run it but it’s probably okay.
Same thing happened literally 2 days ago it’s easy off tamperx for like $45 after shipping with a new spring.
Excellent channel!
I love the colour of your F-250! My 2000 F-250 is a dark Wedgewood Blue... But your rims are different than mine; XLT vs Lariat?? I'm really interested in the fuel bowl replacement, gives way more room to work on that Beast of an engine :) BTW, I installed the HI AC injectors back in 2003 with a ton of Banks equipment, inter-cooler, turbo wheel and strait thru exhaust... Just love the rattle :)
#30 fuse(Excursion anyway).
Alredy bro u got it lookn zuperrr nice
Nice set up.
Great video man I’m a subscriber now I can’t wait to see more
I changed mine to Riff Raff FRx for now, plans are going the route like you did, fuel bowl delete and probably Air Dogg since I asked you about it a few months ago. Not sure if it really did much of a difference, when I get fuel pressure and HPOP gauges installed I'll see where I stand. I'll record a full in depth of my truck when I can drive it in a few weeks.
Sounds like you got a nice plan in the works! If you haven't seen my video about my gauge setup I would say its definitely worth the watch.
@@LivingOnWheels, I did watch it, think I've watched all your videos. Lol. I'm old school and going with the Autometer factory style gauges.
@@jeff.3.2.12 Haha well I appreciate that and I don't blame you! There is something nice about the analog gauges
Badass you are not only making videos for powerstoke owners, but doing a quality job, from a wheelchair even! Thumbs up for teaching those that don't know. Exellent work. I subscribed to support the content.
Keep up the good work!

Hey Joe I am understanding that You Eliminated your fuel Bowl . My largest question is: Did you ADD A FUEL FILTER somewhere else ? Or do you enjoy dealing with Injector and other Fuel system Problems ? I also hope that you stay in a Warm Climate with it. No Fuel Heater will likely cause difficult Cold Starts or further issues !
Yes, I added an airdog fuel pump/filter setup. So a much higher grade of filtration and fuel delivery. As for the heater, unless you live in a very cold climate, and don't pay attention to your fuel, its not a concern. It doesn't get that cold in the PNW. Setup has been working flawlessly for many years now.
@@LivingOnWheels Very Well and congrats ! I figured that you would Not overlook Fuel Filtration.
I'm trying to get these beers boxes straightened out in my outside fuse box under the hood number one is a die of how do you test it and you tell me quick
Great video!!!!
Thank you!
That was great info every time I start my truck gas is leaking my X lying thieving employee replace the fuel filter I believe the actual problem was he didn't put enough gas in it I told it home and one day decided to put another 5 gallons in it and it started right up but now there's diesel fuel coming out from under the truck so I'm trying to figure out where it's coming from getting up in the engine is very difficult for me but I think with all the things that you pointed out one of them's got to be my answer I appreciate it brother God bless you oh where's your water where is your fuel filter now
Id put money on it being your drain valve leaking on the back of the bowl. Those O-rings are known to fail. My fuel filter and water separator are down on the frame now by the filler neck. I run and Airdog pump filter setup.
You have a cool set up. You may not be a expert but from what i seen from your truck thanks for sharing half to make money and time come together.
I can tell you one thing, I’m not making much money haha.
@@LivingOnWheels i stood up with a cane this morning im on top of the world.
Nice man! 👍🏻
Your video's help me a lot and you have inspired me as well, gave me ideas for my truck you say your not an expert but you think about what you want and go do it that take knowledge, gut, and time and money. Hope you make your truck just like you plan . with any luck time and money I'll do my dream to my truck as well.
Much appreciated man! I try to take pride in both being knowledgeable and the work that I produce. If you can’t be proud of what you’re doing what’s the point in doing it? Thank you for following along!
8:46 I pulled the fuel line that plugs into the FPR (and the fuel line below it too) when I was trying to make room to reach the HPOP outfittings with a wrench... could not replacing the Orings cause my truck to idle rough? Like choppy?
No codes. All the other numbers look good.
The fuel line below is the feed line so maybe you have some air in the system but all in all, neither of those should really cause it to run rough. Depending on what you did with the HPOP that is definitely something that could make it run rough.
Fuse 22 great video
Hi joe I'm still having fuel leak it's you definitely 100% coming from the fuel water valve on my 7.3 turbo diesel I replace the valve and the new valve leaks and all the same spots it doesn't Leak with a gaskets are it leaks at the bottom and at the top or the yellow handle is do you have any suggestions? I was thinking fuel pressure regulator or the fuel and water Port that's right next to the wastegate valve the plugin has the connection for the bowl heater and water sensor
Outstanding! Thanks!
The fuel conversion was something I wasn't even aware of doing. How does it handle the water removal and filtering?
Wow, I would never delete the fuel filter! As most diesel fuels are now mixed with bio diesel! AKA vegetable oil! Difference no real idea, however I can say on the secondary fuel filter on a semi truck pure diesel fuel I can go 10,000 on that fuel filter, bio diesel 3K to 5K. And the fuel level on the site boul was at the top.
The filters I put in place of the stock one is actually a much better filter/separator setup. Bio acts as much more of a cleaning element and that is usually why they clog filters faster. It’s washing all the grime out of the system.
Yes I have the 7,3 will not start I changed the IPR the cam sensor and one other one still will not start now can you help me thanks you shoe a lot of good stuff
f01.justanswer.com/nmwagschal/2fa2e2f5-a2b7-44fe-a27c-7e88e2235b2c_7.3nostartchart.pdf
I own two 7.3's with a combined 889,000 miles. I've had one fuel bowl issue and that was the drain leaking. How common are these problems? I've really only had 2 other mechanical failures and that was an injector pump and cam sensors.
It's almost an everyday thing on most facebook 7.3 pages. I would say you've gotten off pretty lucky. Knock on wood haha
"That eliminates the deadhead issues these have." What is meant by "deadhead"? Thank you for a very good video.
On the super duty trucks the fuel goes in one side of the head and the other side is plugged instead of being able to flow through. Hence the "deadheaded system.
Your awesome brother. Keep living your life.... so what all do I need to do the fuel bowl delete?
Much appreciated! There are a lot of good kits out there that will give you everything you need.
@@LivingOnWheels ? So is the only pro of the fuel bowl delta is not having to worry about that fitting breaking and also the leaks... and what about the filter in the bowl and also draining the water?
Thanks Good INFO
I got a code for low fuel pressure, Do you think the fuel pressure regulator might have something to do with it if it failed.
Truck would run but then when I would accelerate it would die, I changed the fuel pump about a year ago.
Question for you sir. On the back of oem fuel bowl on the bottom where people use port for pressure sensor. What size tork or Allen is it to take plug out. I would love to do a fuel bowl delete I’m not confident enough to do it. Thanks for great videos
I’m not sure what size it is. I’d imagine a standard size that would be in a set.
Iv fixed factory fuel lines and replaced factory mech fuel pump and this obs ps f350 starts to shake violently when it warms up a little help me folks please
For me, where I would start is being able to monitor fuel and high pressure oil pressure.
Ok I have a 2000 f250 7.3 if I hit it with starter fluid it starts for a couple seconds till it burns off the starter fluid then dies. I have flue going to the bowl so what can stop it from getting to the engine?
Could be a lot of thing. Oil pressure, injector harness, bad sensor, bad IDM, bad icp, blown fuse…. The list could definitely go on.
How did you get the broken off thread out of the fuel line? That is what I’m currently struggling with from replacing the fuel pressure regulator after the old thread broke off
Used a pick too to hold the piece in place and turned the nut off with a wrench.
I have been looking for the return line billet piece and can not find it.
This is the one I used.
amzn.to/3w9mdjB
how did you get the threads out of the nut after they snapped off
Held the nut from spinning with pliers and used a pick tool to spin out the broken piece.
I just changed the water/fuel separator valve, and it looks like it’s leaking out the top of the new valve. It’s literally just as bad a leak as i was trying to fix. Pouring out of it. Any suggestions?
@jeradstorlie5685 -- were you able to stop the leak you had?
I'm working on the outside fuse box under the hood I'm trying to figure out how to test that bio can you tell me
I’m not quite sure what your asking. If it’s how to test the fuses you can visually inspect them or test for power on both top terminals.
Had the same thing happened last night Friday night of course how do I get the ring that broke off out of the nut
I was able to hold the blocked piece in place with a pick tool and then turned the nut around it off
My dad just bought a 95 F350 7.3. He says, the think burned an 1/8th of a tank just idling in the yard. Could this fuel bowl be a place to start?
If it’s leaking that much you’ll definitely see it dripping below the engine but I’d definitely start there
I believe I got it right this time. Would like to see a video of this though just to be safe. Thanks
I mean you’ll know immediately if it sealed up good or not. It will either be dripping fuel or it won’t be.
Thanks for all the support. The mistake I made was attaching the regulator housing to the fuel line first then mounting it over the spring. This most likely caused it to crack. I used the old housing instead of the new one in the kit thank God! I'll tell you though that new spring was stiff and hard to hold the housing with a couple fingers while trying to thread the two screws. The new housing seemed like a better fit and went on alot easier second time around. Again thanks for all the help.
Does anyone know where I could get new rubber ends for the red and green vacuum lines going to the waste gate and air intake? Being an 2001 f250 platinum they are almost 20 years old. The plastic lines are still in great shape though.
Randy Mounts never seen the rubber ends sold separately. Best bet would probably just the replace them all together.
@@LivingOnWheels do you know of any sites that might sell them. It's ok if I have to buy the set.
PLEASE HELP. I know this is an old video but I had the FPR break off in my fuel line and I can not get it out. Since this is such a common issue is there a way you guys were able to remove the broken threads without damaging the fuel line ? I just took the truck apart and am so close to starting her up again. Thankyou
Unfortunately there’s not some great secrete way. I was able to use a pick tool to hold the threaded piece in place while I used a wrench to turn off the but like it normally would.
Can you please tell me how the o ring is placed oñ the fuel line after replacing the spring in the regulator
For the viton rubber thing I would just slide it to the end of the line, put the nut over it and then tighten it down. There is also an O-ring that goes on the back side of the regulator that if I remember correctly had a pretty obvious cutout for it.
I'm new to this. Just bought my 02 psd. 4 days ago and subscribed to your channel . My question is, what is feeding your fuel block off from tank. Lift pump. Or sump.
I have an airdog down on the frame rail. There are lots of good options though.
I cannot for the life of me fix this issue. I cant figure out what is going on, so basically when I accelerate in my obs on my front tank. which has completely been re done, new sending unit, new fuel bowl and new fuel pump. I just dont know what else to do.
I don’t think you actually said your issue?
You’ll be doing this again pretty soon lol
Haha that might be
Well done Joe! Looking forward to more info from you 👍 Quick question, do you have a portable ramp or lift system to get you up high enough to work in the engine bay? I’m a para like you. Thanks
I actually have some use of my legs. Just can’t stay up for very long. So I use a small step ladder to get up there and kinda lay over the engine.
Mine got stuck in the fuel return line, did yours get stuck? If so, how did you remove it?
Mine did and I used a pick tool to hold the broken piece in place and twisted the nut off with a wrench.
