and let's not forget Mr. Walker dressed like a Ghostbuster running down the street yelling "CASPER!!!!!"
And that kid in the alternative universe grows up and thinks of that memory fondly as he tells his kids when he met the future president. "Back then the President...well I guess he was just Linksano to us then..."

I love how the TV show has Barbara already with secret HQ, stylized motorcycle, etc....and the comic is just her heading to a costume party and fell into the whole crimefighting gig by accident.
She was obviously looking for an excuse to debut.
Either way. Can we agree we don’t want to think of a world without that accident?
At least she did some prep work on her costume. The Creeper pretty much just grabbed whatever was to hand for his debut - or at least that's the official story. Me, I think Ditko just decided the DC universe needed a hero in a feather boa, and who's to say he was wrong?

I don't know if it was intended as sort of a middle finger to Frederic Wertham, but it's pretty funny that Batwoman, the character originally meant to fend off allegations of Batman being homosexual, is now one of the most famous gay heroes in comics.
Wrong Batwoman. The one we all know today is Kate Kane. The original one is Kathy Kane. No relation.
Oh, and that Batwoman from 2003, Mystery Of The Batwoman, that was THREE wonen, taking turns operating in the suit so they dont draw attention to each other.
It may not have been a middle finger when there were already multiple Batwomen before Kate was created in 2006.

I love that each fight in the COC up to now have been very creative and doesn't resort to "punching the opponent REALLY hard"
So just to recap: new Batgirl begins semi-Bruce Wayne swoony, then ends up with Robin. Meanwhile Batwoman, who was created to deflect claims that Batman was gay, is later rebooted as a lesbian. I'm detecting an irony overload here.
Well, Bruce doesn't do oral so it's hard to keep women interested.

I had no idea the tv/comic history of Bat girl’s origin were so connected but the more you know
I think something similar happened with the new Aqualad. His comic version came out right before Young Justice aired, but the show gave Kaldur a supercharged popularity boost, despite his comic counterpart having a different name. And different LGBT sexuality.

Pan and Poly Linksano in happy relationships is something delightful that I did not know I needed. Yay :)
I kinda like how more modern TV appearances have had Batgirl incorporate purple at least somewhere in the outfits, as that homages Yvonne Craig’s look and is just a signature color of Batgirl, much like how Robin has the iconic red and yellow/green.
A slasher who runs on Hellsing Alucard style immortality and Linksano discovering he's pan/poly. All in all, a day for discoveries.

What the good doc didn't say is that he really got carried in the poles by his choice for VP which was also a collection of ghosts only they haunt a Monster Truck they went around battling Kajius. Also a great wing man of dates and really tried to cover for Linksano on a few.

I know it's because of the small pool of actors he has but the reveal of Billy Tor's face made me think he was that universe's version of Future Linkara who got into making hiking trail review videos instead of comic book ones.
Linksano’s sexuality being causally brought up. Nice. What he did to help Linkara in this episode, he’s a true bro.
Linksano is easily one of my favorite in the storylines
Gotta love how DC probably was more panicked by the insinuation that Batman and Robin were gay rather than the pedophilic and incestuous undertones of that statement (and yes, incestuous. Pre-Crisis Bruce DID adopt Dick and basically raised him as his son)
It was the '50s. They thought gay men and pedophiles were the same.
In their defense it wasn't that they were panicked, but more that "Seduction of the Innocence" made the government think that. What DC did was follow the rules set by the CA, one look at Golden Age Lois Lane will show that they were far from breaking social norms.
I mean it's all one bundle. Equating homosexuality with incest and pedophilia was and is a core part of homophobic arguments

It's neat that Batgirl, who could just be seen as just someone copying Batman, teams up with Batman to stop a guy who makes money by ripping off Batman's style down to even having his own moth mobile.
Also, I had initially thought the video might be about Montoya when Linkara mentioned that it would focus on a character who first appeared on a batman-related show.
That would be interesting, though he might want to first do Question, even if that gets into a whole thing like with the original Blue Beetle and several other characters originally not in DC comics, but Charlton, which I only learned via the DC Showcase of Blue Beetle making a little in joke. That short (not sure if you can watch it independently through streaming, I had to buy Long Halloween Part 2) was more in the vein of 60s pulp with promotionals about comics, like the Charlton Action Heroes (Question, Blue Beetle, Nightshade and Captain Atom all featured as heroes, plus the villain Dr. Spectro).
Peacemaker, at least some version of him, also originated there, which is interesting.
That would have been good timing, with the *Gotham* Renée Montoya, played by Victoria Cartagena, reprises her role in the (terrible, so far) season 3 of *Batwoman*
I wanted to at least watch the 5th episode, *"A Lesson from Professor Pyg"* , because I love me some Prof Pygmalion, and this particular episode is directed by my man David Ramsey (aka Diggle aka future Green Lantern).
But yeah, it turned out to be a piece of shit. Much like the Mad Hatter in this same season 3, the *Batwoman* Prof Pyg doesn't hold a candle to the *Gotham* version of the character.
I stuck by season 2 because my man Black Mask was a great Big Bad, but without him to carry the entire show I can say with confidence that this will be the last episode of that show I'll ever watch.
... I mean, they teased Flamingo at the end of last episode, and Eduardo Flamingo has been a favorite minor Batfam-rogue of mine since times immemorial
(and he was pretty badass in *Gotham* even if sadly he only appeared in one episode)
I'm kinda curious as to how they'll butcher him, but I'll just watch clips on youtube. Maybe.

@@randallflagg3700 Only having a bit of exposure to Pyg, I enjoyed what they did here, even if he might've been a bit theatrical. The character is tough to do justice, esp. if the Gotham version really emphasizes and shows off his psychotic nature that was part of his inception as a new part of the rogues gallery.
They ended that episode with the character dead, but teasing a new version of Joker seemingly (given that they confirmed in S2 he was killed by Batman), so there's that way to get around the embargo, similar to other characters that are limited.
Poison Ivy being in a relationship with Montoya was also noted in that episode, possibly an original concept, though I recall she and Batwoman or another prominent female character were in a relationship (maybe from Batman Bad Blood, iirc, where she and Kate talked about their past fling)
@@randallflagg3700 as a batwoman comic fan, Batwoman (Kate Kane) has dated both Renee Montoya (this goes back as far as the weekly series 52) and Maggie Sawyer (they shared a dance in 2010 before starting to date in the new 52)She’s had other love interests, but those are the two of note. In fact, Kate was supposed to marry Maggie in 2014 or 2015, but DC editorial nixed it. They stated that it was because they didn’t want main tier superheroes to get hitched as it would make them boring (completely forgetting that Aquaman Superman and the Flash (I think) we’re all married at this time). The Batwoman creative team of JH Williams III and William Blackman felt it had to do with it being a gay wedding and left the book in protest. And no, poison ivy and Montoya have never dated in the comics. Montoya despite being created in the early 90s, wasnt confirmed gay until 2003 with the excellent Rucka/Brubaker penned series Gotham Central and the five part story Half a Life. She has also had several love interests but Kate Kane is the only one of note.

When DC said no, we are going to bring them into the DC universe proper, the Peacemaker served as a template for the Comedian (The question was Rorschach, captain atom dr Manhattan and blue beetle nite owl)

doesn't Light still have a sort of push to it since that's how Solar Sails work, probably wouldn't be able to make light intense enough to do that though

So that Batgirl vs. Killer Moth fight in the Brave and the Bold cartoon was an homage to this comic. Now it makes sense!
The Doom Patrol sacrificing themselves to save twelve people is also something that happened in the comics
The Batgirl vs Killer moth fight in the great 2003 *"Batgirl: Year One"* _[by Chuck Dixon & Scott Beatty]_ is also an homage to this comic; actually, it's more like extended (9 issues long) edition of 'tec #359 , where Killer Moth is still Barbara's first official Big Bad, but instead of the Moth-goons, Killer Moth recruits Firefly to help him with his Moth-signal protection racket.
Since the 2022 Batgirl movie has already revealed that Brendan Fraser with play Firefly, I keep hoping that they'll announce Killer Moth's actor ASAP, I want to believe... ><
Killer Moth also had a pretty damn cool apparition in *Batgirl Rebirth* #37 & #38 , where he decides to take her out once and for all, in a callback to their first encounter, but with both characters having way more experience and much cooler gadgets \o/
I've always found it funny in Gail Simone's *Birds of Prey* , when Barbara confesses to Lady Blackhawk (she was telling her her most embarrassing secrets) that when started out as a vigilante, she had the biggest crush on Killer Moth because his voice sounded cool.
Wow. Ya got me. I thought I knew everything about the Batman TV show, but Batgirl's TV roots were well beyond me. Although this DOES raise the question of why Bill Dozier felt the need to create a brand-new Batgirl in the first place instead of just adapting the original Batwoman and Bat-girl to quell rumors that Adam West and Burt Ward's Batman and Robin were ALSO gay...

They DID have a little sequence in Yvonne Craig's screentest/pilot that showed her doing this, turning her skirt inside-out to become the cape, her purse becoming her belt, etc. I wish we saw a bit more of that in the show itself, that was awesome.

Yvonne Craig's story about the time she ran over Vincent Price's foot with the Batgirl Cycle is the stuff of legend.
My first exposure to Barbara was Batman 1966. Heck, my first exposure to the Batman franchise was Batman 1966. :D

Well, that was a fun episode. A great debut for a beloved character, thus setting the stage for a long eventful career. For better and worse alike. And the story segment made for an interesting encounter. I won't spoil it for anyone who browses the comments before finishing the video, but I will give credit where it's due. Top notch, everyone. I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Governor Tarsis was a reference to the TOS episode the conscience of the king right? the governor there executed half a population due to a draught amongst them a lot of Jim Kirks friends and the event shaped him for the rest of his life.

I’m a big fan of the Barbara Gordon version of Batgirl, so that got an automatic like from me. The Sins Past joke got a chuckle. Great review overall.

And it's awesome that she leaped from the comic to TV so soon.
I actually really like the idea of Batgirl's normal outfit becoming her costume. I think that's so cool. (12:56)
I really like the Batgirl of TV series. Her portrayal was my first exposure to Batgirl as was to many kids in the late 80s and early 90s. Sure, it may seem bland by today's standards, but it was a great start.
Bab's is one of my favorite DC characters...didn't even let the injuries and horror that Joker put her and her father through in The Killing joke stop her from fighting crime by helping Bats and the JLA as Oracle...
And all this characterisation go on the toillet after new 52.

Because let's face it, and I say this as someone who owns a dog and two cats, pets doing something cute is vital information that must never be overlooked... ever!

Like the covers for Iron Man’s and Spider-Girl’s first comic, you pose this question like it’s a mystery when the very first page makes the answer clear. It’s like “wanna hear a joke? The aristocrats!” I think you’re missing a step or two there!
I guess they assume the kids reading won’t open the cover before bying.
@@sarasamaletdin4574 I bought a lot of those cheap three-books-in-a-polybag sets when I was a kid, mostly because there were no comic shops anywhere yet and that was what the local drug store stocked. You not only couldn't open the books beforehand, you were pretty much reduced to guessing at what the middle book in the trio was.

This was really good and worth the wait...but WOW this storyline is cursed to hell considering how long it's taking to finish (None of which is your fault). Over 4 years.

Myself, I've always found the middle piggy's unnatural lust for the flesh of cattle quite off-putting. I'm vaguely surprised the little monster didn't appear as a porcine supervillain in one of those Chick-fil-a supercow comics.

Ah Barbara Gordon. A great character all around, though I honestly prefer her as Oracle instead of Batgirl.
I just think a wheelchair using hero who still just as, if not more, capable to stop crime by using her brain instead of her strength is cool and I'm sad we lost Oracle since the New 52

Just once I'd like to see a pocket dimension that's actually that. Trapped between two constricting walls of fabric, struggling to keep from being crushed by comedically-oversized coins and car keys, and just when you think you're safe a gigantic smartphone descends from on high to grind you into the lint.
Now, if only we can make Dr. Linksano President of Blizzard long enough to have him apologize for all their bullfuckery.

Coming back here in February 2022, after hearing about Blizzard/Activison's sexual misconduct....I think Ubisoft is the best step up, after all.
Let's be honest - as much as everybody makes fun of Killer Moth and his Silver Age costume, we all love it. It's goofy, sure, but in the best way possible and way better than the needlessly grim and cynical "Charaxes" redesign he got in Underworld Unleashed. I think we can all agree that other than later artists smartly updating the cape into wings, Infantino nailed it with this design and its always fun seeing KM pop up in this outfit.
I always thought that Linksano was A SCIENCE MAJOR, but it turns out he was Poly-Sci this whole time!

Love seeing she-hulk in secret origins opening. With show coming we get to see savage she-hulk #1 next year? Which makes me sad we might finally get a decent she-hulk appearance on show only after CWII.

Maybe it's the alliteration, maybe it's the technical term being used, maybe it's because it's charmingly over-verbose, but "lethal lepidopteran" is a description that just makes me happy.
The Caged Demonwolf sneers at such feeble efforts. True alliteration requires at least a triple play to even qualify as worthy of notice. Go with "the larcenous lawbreaker in his lepidopteran livery launched into a lethal lunge" and you've got something going on. :)

I see they really went with the Hot Goth Librarian for the initial character profile of Barbra Gordon. Demure glasses? Check. Bunned hair? Check. Synched waistline? Check. Black everything clothing choices with a single color offset (in this case a tight, knee length skirt)? Check and phew-boy CHECK.
Methinks the creators were less creative and allowing some repressed feelings come to the surface.
Their work would have made Adam Warren proud.
