True story: when my mom left my dad she not only got full custody of me, she also got full custody of both of my older brothers bc my dad and their mom were just that fucked up. MVP award goes to my mom for willingly becoming a single mom to 2 preschoolers and a baby at age 22 bc she did a helluva good job of it, i know my brothers have always loved her dearly for it. It wasn't at-all easy for her but she wasn't about to let my brothers' situation rot on her conscious. ♥️

I was married for 4 years, but my wife passed away because of medical problems early in 2020 before the pandemic had started. I miss her alot, the main reason I watch Charlotte is she kind of reminds me of my wife in how she acts and she always seems happy and she seems like a genuine nice person. When my wife and I got married she decided instead of buying decorations she wanted to make them herself.

Yeah, I've come to realise that the biggest mistakes I've made in relationships are taking things off the table. Whether it's not believing in divorce or being totally committed to a relationship no matter what - it's either unnecessary or it does _not_ end well.

    • @LazyIRanch
      @LazyIRanch 2 роки тому +61

      I'll never marry again.
My first love was wonderful. We were together 9 years and very happy, but he died suddenly in 1989, the year we were to get married. I went into a deep depression, and 2 years later married the first guy to ask, only knowing him 2 months. The marriage only lasted only @ 2 years, he was missing, with our baby, who he kidnapped, for almost a year. At least it made the divorce easy, since he didn't show up and was wanted by the FBI for multiple felonies, besides the abduction.
When he was found 1800 miles away, he first refused to say if my son was still alive. He hinted that he wasn't, putting through another day of pure hell before my baby was found with a babysitter. He was two by then, and not okay. I'll never know exactly what happened during his ordeal, but nothing good. A very good child psychologist met with him and got him to describe some of it. I found out why he hated closed doors and why he threw ALL my belts out of our 2nd floor apartment window. Not because he was beaten, but because he was tied up and left in a closet when left alone, probably for hours. I decided I didn't need belts, and took the 5 doors inside our apartment off, and hung curtains instead until he could understand that no one would ever lock him in again.
My ex tried to get unsupervised visitation, but after the judge read details of the case, and a report from the psychologist, he ruled that ANY contact with the father would be harmful. My ex swore in court he would make me suffer an "endless stream of tears". The judge had the bailiff escort me and my dad through a back hallway to our car.
About a year later, the ex went to my parents' home and shot my dad to death as he was going outside to work in his garden. Again, he disappeared for almost a year before he was found. He had been using his brother's identity and SS number, so even though he was in JAIL when found (burglary), the cops didn't know he was wanted for murder, they never ran his fingerprints! The only reason he was discovered was because the woman's house he robbed saw our story on "Unsolved Mysteries" in 1997 and immediately identified him.
Although there had been an eyewitness and potential DNA collected at scene, oddly both were lost by police. The prosecutor refused to go to trial on the mountain of circumstantial evidence, and police refused to question his accomplice who drove the getaway car. I tracked her down, had several witnesses who confirmed it was her, cops wouldn't talk to them either. I have suspicions as to why, but that's another story.
He did spend 4 years in prison for parole violation, and I took my son and moved 1500 miles away 21 years ago, and changed my name. I have had little contact with my family back in Texas for their safety.
I know this is a long story, but it's an example of how badly one can ruin their lives by marrying a bad person. My ex was 6' 3", blonde, had gorgeous green eyes, and spoke with a soft Southern drawl (he sounded exactly like Elvis). He could be extremely charming when he wanted to be. When I met him, my first thought was, "Why is this handsome man even talking to a mousy girl like me?"
At least my son inherited his beautiful green eyes, and NOT his criminal disposition!
Sorry for the long story, but I tell it to warn others not to be stupid like me.

When planning her wedding, my older sister informed that, since I was single and wasn't bringing a plus-one (I didn't see the point in my sister incurring the cost of another guest who wasn't anything more to me than a casual date) I wouldn't be seated at the big immediate family table but, instead, at the "extras' table." To try and make it seem like something other than the shittiest way to treat her own sister, she added, "You'll love it - the extras table is right by the bar!" As if being close in proximity was some sort of amazing bonus. I mean, I could just go to a bar and buy booze if I were that desperate. I told her not to bother even setting a seat for me - that I'd just as well skip the whole thing, anyhow. This REALLY upset her. She knew there would be talk if her own sister didn't show, so she ended up begging me to go. I told her I'd only attend if she met my demands - I would NOT be seated at the "extras'" table with a bunch of strangers who she'd felt obligated to invite, but at a table with my favorite aunt and uncle, and I would, in fact, be bringing a plus-one. She knew I was just the petty bitch to keep my word and not go, at all, so she gave in. I brought a friend with me. We sat at a table with my favorite aunt and uncle and had a great time. Her marriage was a miserable one.

My sister went for a simple wedding, I was her MOH. None of us had a lot of money, so for her bachelorette party I went to the party barn and bought silver top hats, applied a wine colored ribbon around each (her colors) and added a 12 inch tulle to the back of hers with flowers, and a 6 inch tulle for the rest of the wedding party. I was afraid she wouldn’t like them, but turns out they were a hit! We even got asked where we purchased them everywhere we went lol. Then on her wedding day we found the bridal bouquets of tiger lilies had half frozen in the wedding hall fridge because it had been set too low. My sister started to cry, I told her to stop, started ripping them apart, got all the good ones, divided them up evenly and rewrapped them with the ribbons. They were smaller, but looked fine. Everything went great after that! I’ve learned that even small weddings have issues, so if my man and I ever decide to marry, we are eloping 😂😂

BRIDESMAID-ZILLA STORY WITH A HAPPY ENDING!
Charlotte I hope you read this and share it in one of your future videos:
My brother's first wife was a complete bitch. I had no problem telling her off when she was mistreating my brother or acting like a selfish drama queen at family functions. Obviously I was not asked to be a bridesmaid. In fact I found out from my dad 4 days before the wedding that she did not even want me to attend. So I swallowed my pride, called her and apologized for everything I'd ever said to her and for being rude and disrespectful etc etc etc so I would be allowed to be there for my brother on his big day.
I was so happy when my brother divorced a few her a few years later even though the circumstances were pretty devastating for him.
Fast forward a couple more years, and I was super excited when my brother asked his absolute jewel of a girlfriend to marry him. I got even more excited when she asked me to be one of her bridesmaids. At the time, I had waist length pink, black, purple and blonde dread lock type braids in my hair and I told my brother's fiance I would take them out before the wedding. She told me she didn't want me to feel obligated to do that and that she was fine with my hair the way it was. Well, I still went ahead and spent over $1,000 color correcting my hair and putting in human hair extensions after spending hours unbraiding my hair and even cutting some of the more difficult braids out (hence the extensions because I needed to even out the areas where I had obviously cut braids out. I voluntarily did this to myself because I was not going to ruin her wedding photos. This woman makes my brother so happy and brings out the best in him. I wanted for her to have the best from me.
5 days before the wedding I broke two of the bones in my foot. 2 days before the wedding someone ran a red light and t-boned my pickup truck causing me to spin out and then start to barrel roll until I came to a complete stop when my truck collided with another car. Luckily I didn't get any visible bruises or scratches or get seriously hurt but my entire body did hurt the next days.
I made it to the wedding and my brother's fiance told me that she didn't care what shoes I wore or if I wore the medical boots to walk down the aisle. All the bridesmaids were wearing gold heels. I told her I care and I took a couple of prescription painkillers, put on the five inch heels I bought and walked up and down that aisle with a smile on my face and stood at the altar with the other bridesmaids the entire time.
After the ceremony the bridal party went to a park to take pictures. At this point my foot was so swollen I knew if I took off my shoe there was no way it was going back on but I also couldn't walk anymore so my two brothers, the groom and the best man had to carry me into position in between every photo.
TOTALLY WORTH IT! My brother and his wife have two beautiful intelligent children and she is not just my sister-in-law she is my friend and I love talking to her on the phone and spending time with her.

JP 45 years ago, and we finally married in the Church 32 years ago, only a few witnesses and our children. Both times, very inexpensive, and just as we wanted. I never dreamt of a wedding, nor even marriage for that matter. It was my mom who asked me when I played house as a little girl, why I wanted children one day, but no husband.... She was onto something. Marriage is certainly not easy and we had our fair share of ups and downs, thick and thins.... but in the end it is the history of time together that really counts.... no one will ever know in just a glance when something is funny, sad or silly other than your husband of many years... imho. But no wedding dress fuss, no guests fuss... etc.
Went to a few weddings in my family where there were the inevitable fist fights over some indiscretion or something stupid... I was having none of that nonsense.

It's so nice to have a partner that appreciates your good qualities and understands the root of your neurosis. I know my husband sometimes takes pause when I get worried we'll run out of milk. But he understands that I grew up very poor and we usually didn't have any food in the fridge. I never want my children to open our fridge and not have milk there. My ex was a groom Zilla. We eloped in TX so I could have my grandparents at my wedding. They had missed most of the milestones in my life because they lived so far away and grandpa was handicapped from a severe car accident when I was small and he had a hard time with traveling. We had money for gas and food, but not much else. Grandparents paid for our rings and the fee for the civil ceremony and a cake and homemade dinner. He expected them to give us money on top of paying for everything while we were there. Nobody in my entire family liked him and unfortunately I tried to make it work for way too long. He would spend all our money on what he wanted and expect his parents to pay our bills. He actually told them that I was the one spending all the time and when I finally left him after eighteen years they blamed me for everything including losing our house. Once we were divorced and he still hit them up for money all the time they realized that he had lied to them for years and I wasn't actually the bad guy in the marriage. He tried to pull the same thing with his second wife who comes from big money family and she put the kibosh on it.

Honestly didn't think he'd have too many thoughts, whereas, I'd been buying Martha Stewart Weddings issues since I was a teenager. He was the one with an outfit change (kilt for the ceremony, tux during the reception), he had thoughts on what flowers I should have in my bouquet. I would LOVE to hear Charlotte sing the old song, "Making Whoopee" in her Jessica Rabbit style! For anyone not familiar with the song, here's the lyrics as sung by Ella Fitzgerald (my fave!)
      Another bride, another June
      Another sunny honeymoon
      Another season, another reason
      For makin' whoopee
A lot of shoes, a lot of rice
The groom is nervous, he answers twice
Its really killin' that he's so willin'
      To make whoopee
Now picture a little love nest
      Down where the roses cling
Picture the same sweet love nest
Think what a year can bring
He's washing dishes and baby clothes
He's so ambitious, he even sews
      But don't forget, folks
That's what you get, folks, for makin' whoopee
      Another year or maybe less
What's this I hear? Well, can't you guess?
She feels neglected and he's suspected
      Of makin' whoopee
She sits alone most every night
He doesn't phone her, he doesn't write
He says he's busy, buut she says, "Busy?"
      He's makin' whoopee
      He doesn't make much money
      Only five thousand per
Some judge who thinks he's funny
Says, "You'll pay six to her"
He says, "Now judge, suppose I fail?"
The judge say, "Bud, right into jail!
You'd better keep her, I think it's cheaper
      Than makin' whoopee

My brother and SIL will forever be my idols if someone ever decides they can deal with…all this. They aren’t religious and asked me to officiate, knowing I had gotten one of those online minister cards in college because I was drunk one night and thought it was funny. SIL did the research and in their county I was in fact good to go.
It was in a small hipster event space with online close family and friends, decor was an A+ in Pinterest gone right, they hired a food truck that was super popular and everyone got an open tab on the first serving, we got to take turns DJing (event space had a sick sound set up I have to say), and it was perfect.
I have no idea how much it cost (I mean I was free of course), more than I could afford I’m sure but they both make twice what I do (teacher), and could have had a swanky set up. They went with “let’s vibe and celebrate” and it was perfect.
Especially the part where I had to drive my brother home because “I am NOT drunk”, my dad disagreed (as did I), and he pouted his ass off on the way home (SIL had left 10 mins before with her sister to “remove the trappings”…she loved being the glowing bride for about two hours then she wanted to be comfy, she’s the comfy type)…my dad threw 3 bottles of leftover wine in the truck as payment to me for this as well. So I got to make fun of my younger brother on his wedding night AND got three bottles to give as impressive gifts for free.
AND when I announced them I accidentally mispronounced her name…they’d been together and lived together for four years by that point, I was already calling her my sister, and she was already part of the immediate family as far as we were concerned, it was the nerves. She winced a little but said nothing of it and wouldn’t let me apologize.
I’m the eldest and only daughter so considering my love of “duck around and find out” in my approach to life I think my mom is secretly pleased to face a Better daughter and honeslty, totally fair.

I met a bridezilla once. She was insane. She was from a poor family, so she didn't have enogh money for the wedding. Even her husband was a poor guy but the girl wanted a BIG wedding, so she asked her friends to help her. She rented a place (where I worked at that time) for free (a 500 person capable room and a castel with huge ballroom for the dinner, and many bedrooms) just with the help of her friends. She asked her friends to do everything like she wants from flowers to doves. She didn't pay for these either. She had plans for the ceremony (like what kind of flower petals must be strewed, how many chairs must be in one row, what colour should be ribbons etc. ) She wanted a very expensive kind of rosepetals but we couldn't find in the area (it was end of summer, and that flower was out of reach at that time) so someone had to travel to another city to buy some for a horrible cost. When they returned she became furious because the amount of petals was not enough. (WTF?) We offered her another kind of flower with the exact same colour but that wasn't good enough for her. We worked our a** off with this wedding, with cleaning, decorating, feeding poor little doves, etc. She said there will be 250 guest she just inveted. We prepared the food, the catering eerything. Before the ceremony she said to one of the managers of the area (who was her friend and worked on this wedding for free) that she (the manager) and the staff members (=we) musn't be seen on the ceremony or at the reception except the waiters because we are too low for her standards. There were tons of food, enogh for 400 people at least and she said we musn't eat at our regular place (we had a room in the palace where the stuff had their dinner) because it's too close to the place of the reception and some guest might see us. So we had to eat at the food storage in the basement where were not a window or not even enough lamps. There were only two chairs and all the stuff (around 15 people) had to eat there. She said we musn't touch the food, because it's only for the guest (traditionally here you share the wedding dinner with your stuff because they work hard and don't have time to buy or make their own, and it shows respect for the hard work). We must eat only bread, but not too much because she might need it. (How generous :P) We accepted. Once again: she got EVERYTHING for free: the place, the food, the staff, flowers, doves, the photographer. The only thing she paid for her wedding dress a nearly 1000 USD dress (which is considered to be REALLY expensive here because here traditionally brides just borrow their dresses, not keep them). The manager "friend" had to eat at the basement too. So the wedding started and around 30-50 guest came only, because she forgot to send them RSPVs and thougt noone would miss HER wedding and everyone would come who was invited. So, after this very awkward fiasko the few guest looked pathetic at the 500-people-sized hall. The manager asked us to sit in the ceremony just to have more people there. She even asked neighbors, cleaning stuff members, gardeners etc to be well-dressed and sit in. The weather was rainy so the doves refused to fly. We can say the dreamy ceremony was a failure. But after these she still refused to give us some food and insisted to the "eat some bread only"-policy. We told the cook and he said the bride was insane, because they woud throw out the most of the food the next day. So he was kind and gave us a dinner and invited us to their private diningroom in the basement to eat there. (We didn't eat anything the whole day because of the preparations.) So after this wonderful wedding where this bridezilla showed how "nice" she was she lost most of her friends. The manager, who used to be one of her best friends (she made her the bachelorette party for eg.) never talked to her again. We do not know too much about her, I just hope she changed after this very shameful wedding. The only thing I know: after the ceremony failure and tons of food left she just refused to come out of her bedroom for one and a half day, didn't want to meet the people she hurt.

I love watching these and you don't get to see many "What happened after..." videos. My hubby and I had a Renaissance wedding lol we work for a vendor at a RennFaire. The entire wedding was under $1k and we had the fairytale garb (it was mandatory with the RennFaire that the wedding party dress in garb). Our guests enjoyed it as well as any of the over two thousand people who visited the RennFaire that day. Apparently many asked if this was a real wedding or a play the RennFaire put on. We're still married seven years later and, though life has its Ups and Downs, I'm glad we have each other to weather it. 💖

Not a Bridezilla story, but a great story about how my husband and I met. The night we met, we were in a car accident together (missed a curve, went off the road and hit a tree). So the night we met…a totaled car, full leg cast for 6 months , stitches = 26 years with my honey. My grandpa opened the curtain in the ER, his first words were “So when’s the wedding ?” . I also walked down the aisle to Tracy Bird’s “Keeper of the stars” . A friend from my mom’s band sang it live, and he sang “ It was an accident me finding you” We celebrated our 25th anniversary this past September. ♥️

The best young bride I knew got married in middle of Covid, in a public park with just the families, and a few friends stopping by the park to say congrats from 6 ft away. She and her groom are very religious and didn't live together before marriage (and practiced abstinence), so pushing off the wedding for a few years was out of the question. I asked if she was disappointed to miss out on the whole wedding "experience", and she said she was just thrilled to save so much money. Invitations? Catering? Wedding hall? Nope, nope, nope. Thousands saved towards buying their future home.

some of these are hysterical and make me so glad that my husband and I opted for planning out wedding in 2 weeks and just having a small wedding with approx 35-40 guests at the most (mostly his side of the family as its huge) at my mom's house. We originally had a big wedding planned almost 2 years later due to me getting pregnant and not wanting to be stressed out planning a wedding and not get to enjoy my pregnancy or new born baby, but then a month before we actually got married he got the call that his unit (he was in the US Army) as they were being deployed to Iraq, but they were leaving in 6 weeks to go train for 6 months before they actually deployed and he wanted to get married before he left incase anything happened, that way our son and myself would be provided for. We were just going to go to the court house and get married but my mom, mother in law and my boss at the time(I was a manager at a local family owned restaurant and my family had known them since before I was born) had a fit and insisted we had at least a nice small wedding so we wouldn't end up regretting it later. My boss had the restaurant pretty much cater everything as a wedding gift to us, since the restaurant is also where I met my husband as he used to come in there on his lunch breaks and drive me insane to go on a date with him at least 2-3 days a week, and yes, he still drives me nuts all day, everyday😂. My dad and also some of my husband's family helped out with cooking some of the food, as the only thing I cared about was the wedding cake because I was pregnant but also love traditional New Orleans wedding cake which is almond flavored. We had still planned on doing the big wedding once he returned from Iraq because we had pretty much paid for it all, but mother nature had other plans and Hurricane Katrina wiped out the city, including flooding the officers' club at the military base, so it was cancelled, and by the December we had it planned for, I was pregnant again, what a welcome home gift for me huh, 😂 . We will be celebrating 18 years this April and dont regret 1 single minute of not having that big wedding now that we are older, I am convinced he was just going to go along with us still having the big wedding to make me happy, instead we put that money in the bank and let it draw interest and eventually built our dream house and are currently going through IVF to have a baby girl since we have 2 boys, but also because I'm old now 🤣and things he was exposed to while deployed numerous times have interfered with his fertility

Wow that’s absolutely beautiful I loved all of it. You seem so chill and normal 😃. I had a bigger wedding (90 ppl) but I had the fancy dress, the big cake, flowers, bridesmaids grooms etc. So while it wasn’t super expensive it was quite a bit. Looking back, 17 years ago, I kind of wish I had done like a backyard type bbq. I was pregnant with number 1 so I rushed things ahead which is also good like you said, no real time to stress over minute details. And I also just wanted to enjoy my day without having to worry about a baby.
We were relaxed and it was fun. Being pregnant I left at 10 pm cuz I was exhausted 😂. Ppl maybe stayed a bit longer, no idea but not much and it was a wrap. Nobody caused issues, no crazy drunks. The only “drama” was that it was raining. Oh well. Photographer had an alternative plan and we went to an indoor venue for pics.
Best of wishes on your quest for a new baby.

Had lovely food and a free beautiful cake made by a friend. About 20 guests and we jumped in the pool after a brief 4 minute ceremony. It was fun and I was so thankful not to have a big wedding. That was 35 years ago.

I really don’t understand wanting to plan a wedding that will stress you tf out. If you’re just going to be stressed out leading up to it, and very possibly the day of, then you’ll just let it pass you by and not enjoy yourself and what’s the point?
I had like 2 weeks to plan my wedding and it was perfect. We got our marriage license and officiant sorted, which was the main stressor. We tried on and bought plain silver wedding bands, my husband wore a suit he already had plus a nice vest he bought for the occasion, and I bought myself a $40 navy blue floor length dress with long lace sleeves and a tulle skirt from ASOS (which thankfully arrived in time and fit well 😂). Paired it with my nude heels and a belt I made myself with white satin ribbon and some fake pearls, stuck white flowers in my hair, and did my own makeup the morning of. Our venue was free, at a local garden. We had like 15 people tops and no wedding party, and we even had a couple friends drive in from Melbourne which is about a 4 hour trip, and my mother from back home in the US on video chat. Afterward we all went back to our house for drinks and our wedding cake, which was a chocolate mudcake that my sister-in-law bought us as a wedding gift. Then my husband and I got a hotel room for the next couple nights, complete with a huge spa bathtub.
It was literally perfect, even though our own officiant was about a half hour late 😂 I wouldn’t change a thing, except maybe getting an actual proposal instead of just deciding together to get married lol. But even then, I don’t think I’d change anything if I could.
Edit: our 5 year anniversary will be in May ❤️

@@BossKuno The ceremony with the minister and the church only "marries" you in the eyes of the church and that church/family community. The paperwork is what makes you married in the eyes of the civil authority (ie. the government) In fact, there were times in the past (at least in the west and among the early pioneers in the Americas) that a couple would make their vows to each other, live as spouses, and, when they had a chance/when a minister was available, they would ask for a blessing on their marriage. The government wasn't involved at all until they realized that it was a financial benefit to have marriages registered civilly. Now, where I come from, common-law unions are also recognized for tax/estate purposes once you've been living together for 6 mos to a year.🍾🥂

I mean, if they lived only for this ONE day and then it happiness and it over… it sounds kinda nightmarish and depressive TBH. And your new marriage begins with this big, crushing realization and pending disillusionment. I find it fascinating, what happens in their heads at this point. How they deal, or do not deal, with it.

I woke up with a cold, asked for the DayQuil in my bag and went back to bed.

Married to my "Best", "First" and ONLY wife for over 44 years now, wouldn't change a think. Met in college and saw her in the cafeteria while having a meal with another girl whom I knew from a class. When my lunch mate saw my eyes following this girl, she asked "Do you know her?" "No", I said, but she always seems so happy, and I'd like to meet her. "Okay", she said, "she's my roommate". And that was that - we dated for a couple years and got engaged during that time, had a simple wedding in a small-town church, her family/parents/etc were genuine, wonderful folks. We now have four grandkids from our two sons' families. It can work if you avoid the bridezillas in the first place!
Charlotte, if you compare how many Bridezilla clips you can find VS. "Groomzilla" clips, you'll see that no, the habits aren't limited to women at all, they're just more highly refined in women because of the "Daddy's Princess" syndrome, which seldom exists for sons.

Some bridezillas are legit insane people, while others (mostly not the kind that ask for you to pay for your own dress or food) just seem extremely stressed about their wedding day

Funfact: no matter how long or well u know someone, you really don't know them. They will always do something out of character

My first wife divorced me because of my alcoholism, I don’t blame her one little bit. It’s the best thing she ever did as now I’m married to the most amazing person I’ve ever met. My daughters and grandchildren love her and they would say if they didn’t. She’s never ever seen me touch a drop of alcohol and I’m coming up to 27 years sober in a few days. I’m also friendly with my ex wife, her and her husband have had a terrible couple of years and thankfully I’ve been in a position where I can help them. We also have two amazing daughters together and three great grandchildren.

I’m seeing a ton of direct lines drawn from,
“Bride/Groom-zillas,” to Narcissistic Personality Traits (E.g. The bride who took up every minute of her sister’s life up to the end of the wedding, then instantly dropping her without a word after the sister was no longer needed).

My uncle married a bridezilla and he didn’t sign a prenup. It’s been 13 years and she has put him into almost millions of dollars in debt for nice big houses, cruise vacations, etc. He’s starting to get very sick of her crap so now, if he decides to divorce her, since there is no prenup and she can be this evil, she can take half of everything, including my families farm.

My mom stabbed me with a fork in my thigh when I was a teenager. My entitled sister & narcissistic mother were just sitting there while I was trying to finish the dinner dishes. The scar stayed for years as a reminder to me not to trust them!

Thank you for making these videos Charlotte! Everytime my boyfriend is on the verge of judging me I show him these and get the “you are so normal” response from him.
