Hey, y'all! Hope you enjoyed the video! For those who might've missed it, we did a whole video on Twinkies last year! 😁 ua-cam.com/video/e-gFfXHiZF8/v-deo.html
Twinkies are best served with salad dressing!
U guys need to try and get your hands on some mini sweet biscuits
Please tell me this comment wasn’t here before I opened my mouth earlier.
Sara Lee makes snack cakes a lot of different kinds cheese cake is my favorite if you ever get a chance to TRY them I seriously suggest you do & a twinkie with salad dressing 🤔 I guess diferent strokes 4 different folkes, i just wanted to thank you 4 the many hours of entertainment joy & laughter i've been a subscriber from day 1 thank you Jeff from selma al.
Er, isn't that the link to *this* video?
I've never seen people more in need of cups of tea.
@Baskerville Bee I agree with them totally, those are all fake food made with mostly fake and dangerous chemicals. They would survive even over Roaches in Nuclear War. If you eat 1 ok, if you like them then you don't know what real food is. Just my humble opinion though.
Any pastries or cakes I have. I have cup a tea with it.
Milk, coffee, or even hot cocoa are even acceptable.

A: "It means the same thing, doesn't it?"
B: ...

I've struggled with the word cinnamon my whole life. It's my one-word nemesis. It usually comes out "cimaninn"
@@PainlessJen You would have had a hard time where I went to high school -- Cinnaminson, NJ. As a child, my nemesis was "Waterloo", but I got it eventually...

Because you are an authority on food. Right know it all? Just ask you.

LOL Lolsy's lil jingle at 1:04 should totally be the Hostess Baby Bundt song 🤣🤣🤣
She could try, AFAIK, they don't have one
Except then they'd get sued, since it's the Baby Bottle Pop jingle, but with 100% more sucking 😂

Cinnamon-y. Cinnamon-y. Cinnamon-y. 😅
Did someone say cinnamon-y?
As soon as the bundt cakes came out I was waiting for “I like big bundts and I cannot lie” , I was not disappointed 🙂
Cindy's Dad here just saying I am 70 years old and have only eaten 1 Hostess cake in my life. I salute your fortitude. Little Debbie snacks for the win, IMO!
Was just gonna say. I can't stand anything Hostess these days. But Little Debbie has a lot of tasty sweets.
Same! I like the Swiss Cake Rolls, Nutty Bars, and Zebra Cakes the best!
Original Tasykake treats are the best. However they too sold out and the recipes have changed. I lived on Butterscotch Krimpets back in junior high school.

More Better Living Through Chemistry *tm* - nice!
Everyone was pretty much diplomaticly underwhelmed, but Honest Thomas nailed it with "Well I think if you're eatin' these your life hasn't come together". Thanks for a fun tag to a weird week everyone!
Honest Thomas, I love it!
"You've been thrown out of the Hostesses party" is possibly the greatest quote I've ever heard from Lolsy.
"I was going to say that it's less than the sum of its parts, but even the sum of its parts, sucks."
I disturbed the apartments on both sides of me, I was laughing so hard.
Lolsy returns! Woot! Love her shirt too! It's "Groovy!" I think I enjoyed some Hostess cakes when I was a kid, but as an adult, they don't do much for me now.
Never was much of a hostess fan. Growing up in the Philly burbs it was tastykakes or nothing. And even they are not like they were when I was a kid. Now being made by Mexican baking giants, Bimbo.
I think Lolsy missed the perfect oppertunity to tell Sean before any of the snacks to:
"Give me some sugar baby!"
@@shinner65 Moved to the Philly area when I was in high school, and Tastykakes were less than impressive. The fruit pies were OK, but Krimpets are krap, as are the cupcakes, may as well be sawdust. Not very good...
@@AndrewAMartin when was that?
@@shinner65 Early 80's... Mind you, my grandfather owned a bakery, so I'm probably a bit biased.
All the Tryers are funny individually. And their chemistry is (usually) better than the sum of the parts. But these three combinations were particularly excellent. Great interplay this time around. 🙂
Paddy: Its how I eat my food!
Hahahaha.... good man.
We need an "Irish People Try Canadian Cakes Part 2" with Dermot and Justine. I think about those cakes way too much
I will occasionally rewatch that video for the good feelings.
cuz Vachon is good for mass market products, local bakery will have better but not that kiddie vibe
somebody would need to buy some and send them in, they can't exactly just take an uber to Canadia and pick some up.
@@briwanderz no, but they can order them online to be shipped to them. The internet is a crazy place these days...
Ah, Caramel!
Unfortunately original Hostess has had to sell off a lot of their company to stay in business.
What they did, was sell off their most popular recipes to other baking companies......like Twinkies, Ding Dongs, and others. So now, they are still labeled "Hostess", but they are made by other companies. These other companies changed the recipes as well.
These snack cakes aren't anything like what they were when they were still actual Hostess products.
And even with that, Hostess changed their recipes back in the 80's for cheaper ingredients, and cut down on the sizes and fillings.
When I was little, Hostess was the best, as thier fruit pies were stuffed with REAL fruit pieces....today its just artificially flavored gelatin filling. Ding Dongs had a thick coating of chocolate on them, and pumped full of creme. Now they taste like cardboard, with very little creme in them at all. I mean seriously.......you're lucky if you get ANY in them.
They are just like Krispy Kremes.......bland, tasteless, and nothing but artificial and chemicalized ingredients.
You're right. I was born in the 60s and I noticed when I was a young adult in the 80s they didn't taste quite as good and were smaller. Now they are no better than the cheap brands.
I remember the originals as well. Sigh!
Never knew that about Hostess. Was wondering why no Twinkie or Hostess cupcake ( original ). I also remember their pies in the 50’s and 60’s. They were sooo good and also didn’t have the hard sugary coating. Thanks for the info !!
😮 interesting, I agree the taste isn’t what it was in its hay day.
Agreed 😢
Darren's original Mighty Ducks shirt rocks!
The Anaheim Ducks were called the "Mighty Ducks" way back in 1993 when Disney founded the team, and they were named after the 1992 film "The Mighty Ducks." Even though I am a big NHL fan, I never saw that movie. In 2005 Disney sold the team, and the new owners dropped "Mighty" from the name and so they're now just the Ducks. But, congrats on your memory! Back then, I used to call them the "Mighty *ucks". 🙂
Quite a few years ago the Ducks, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks were three of the best teams in the NHL, and any teams coming from the east coast on a road trip through California went 0-3 or 1-2 against these three teams.
Things change in the NHL, and the West isn't that powerful anymore. This 2022-2023 season, the Sharks ended up as the fourth WORST team in the league 😞
As for this video, I am now 68 years old and my parents NEVER bought Hostess products for us to eat. Nowadays, with smaller portions and cheaper ingredients, you couldn't PAY me to try any of this junk.
As a child growing up in the 1960’s and 70’s, my stay-at-home mother didn’t allow any store bought cakes into the house. However, my friend around the block , her mom was a working woman, and bought all kinds of readymade sweets to pacify her children, and I had plenty of these types of treats at their house. The thing about this type of food is as you get older your tastes grow too. I haven’t had a Hostess sweet in many decades now. I’m sure your adult tastebuds were not impressed with these cakes. And I don’t blame you either.
My mom wasn't strict, but when my dad got sick and only sweet things tasted good to him, we had so many pancake and sausage suppers and my mother would buy twinkies in large boxes, so we always had one in our lunch everyday. To this day, I do not wish to eat a Twinkie because I know exactly what it's going to taste like. Once in a while I might do an orange cupcake. But none of this fake stuff really excites me anymore
"would you stop licking OUT that cupcake..." lmfao
Was that a Home Improvement reference at 7:53? Lmao well played if so.
Lmao Collin's face when Lolsy said give it a shake and suck it😂😂
In America, our merch has merch.
Very accurate.
And people buy it. Why? No one really knows. If a product is even remotely someone’s favorite thing, put it on a T-shirt. Someone will want that T-shirt. Hang onto it for a while and it’s considered vintage and retro.
True dat.
But seriously, though, doesn't Guinness have merch? Coulda swore I saw some before the hell that was 2020
Why did I read this like Yakov Smirnoff with an American accent?
i want a shirt with a picture of a shirt that has a merch logo on it now. (try channel has merch to by the way)
but also, i think most people that buy merch don't even wear it, maybe once. i would seriously consider hanging a merch shirt on my wall more then wear it outside. maybe a nice Try 5 shirt would look good on my wall now that i think of it.
Snowball from Hostess. I remember those when I was a kid. Loved them.
Oh man - I love the Hostess Orange Cup Cakes. Them's my favorite. I can't believe you guys hated them. And yes, Niall - your precious, boojie, home made cake isn't going to be fresh and safe to eat 20 years after the apocalypse like all these Hostess cakes. You'll appreciate Hostess baked snacks then.
When Hostess' parent company, Interstate Brands Corporation (IBC), went bankrupt, we tried to buy the Hostess and Dolly Madison brands. We were in the running, but the bankruptcy judge awarded the purchase to Apollo Foods instead. Our plans didn't involve the purchase of any of the real estate. We only wanted to purchase the labels & patents for the products. We already had tentative contracts in place for another baking company to assume production. IBC didn't fail because of its product lines. It failed for 2 reasons. 1) When IBC purchased various baking companies, it failed to get rid of upper management and executive positions - the ones that made those companies susceptible to takeovers. In other words, the company was very "top heavy." They also had over $2 billion worth of brick & mortar facilities, much of it being redundant. 2) The final nail in their proverbial coffin was when a company wide strike took place. They were able to strike acceptable deals with all but one of the unions - the bakers union. The lack of a deal with them was what finally ended the entire corporation... but I digress. Anyway, Apollo Foods bid included the purchase of 2 large manufacturing plants and that's why the judge awarded them the purchase. Sadly, they changed the recipe on Hostess' most iconic product, the Twinkie. It hasn't set well with consumers and you mostly only see Hostess products in dollar stores and other discount outlets. They are still in some larger grocery chains, but without the prominent shelf placement they once enjoyed. Who knows? Maybe Apollo will decide to dump the labels and we'll get another chance to revive the brands. 🤞
The Vachon Billot Log is still tops of the snack cake world.
Our TRYers would agree! 😁 ua-cam.com/video/elinh_7wp3g/v-deo.html
Hahaha! All cakes are compared to the Canadian ones. Love it!
How cute the way they said Bundt 😊 it reminded me of the scene in the movie My big fat Greek wedding where Toulas mom couldn’t pronounce Bundt 😂 and Ians mom was like BUnTT. I love that movie ❤ with that being said I’ve only had hostess items 3 times in my life twice as a kid and one recently and man did it feels like I was consuming cardboard of sorts 😂 not what I had remembered.
YAY!! @LolsyByrne is back! 🥰😅 The sounds that she and Colin made (7:49) while eating the Ding Dongs were classic; sort of a pairing of a pirate and Scooby Doo! I loved Hostess snacks growing up. As a kid I remember always taking a twin pack of Twinkies to school as a morning recess snack so that I could share one with my best friend. Later, some store in the area sold Twinkies dipped in batter and deep fried....delicious! I must say though that the chocolate cupcakes, Ding Dongs and Ho Ho's were my favorite. I used to actually break the outer layer of chocolate from the HoHo and slowly unroll it so I could eat it as a layer of cake (I was pretty strange growing up 🤣😋). I would say that I didn't like the Snowball (like a cupcake surrounded by marshmallow, sprinkled with either white or pink colored coconut shavings). TMarshmallow and toasted coconut are two of my dislikes 😁. The Bundt cakes came out much later so I never tried them.
Only way to eat ho hos
Pretty much the same except that I don't mind the snowflakes now, and I couldn't resist trying the orange and lemon cupcakes
Don't hate me, but I prefer Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls, although I eat them the same way!
@Lisa Melroy Well, not everyone has great taste 🤣 JK 😁
@@The_Madd_Golfer 😂😂😂
We’re all here simping for Lolsy today 😂😂
Those caramel Ding Dongs came out here in the US around last Halloween as a limited edition. I don't usually buy Hostess snacks but I bought those on a whim. I loved them so much I wanted to get a second box and searched 5 different stores and they were sold out everywhere. Now I'm just waiting to see if they bring them back this year so I can hoard some.
doh, i was about to look for them... is it caramel flavored cake or the regular cake with caramel in it?
@@briwanderz A caramel cake and caramel cream !
For 31 years I drove by the Hostess/Wonderbread plant on Arden Way in Sacramento going to and from work. That damn Thrift Shop was my downfall. I are a fatass.
I loved the Baby Bottle Pops jingle with the lemon Bundt cakes.
I'm totally with the group here. For once, I see most of these products on a daily basis. And I would not even THINK of buying one to consume. I think that possibly there is like an ideal age, maybe between 8 & 9 yrs old when this sort of thing tastes good. That age when everything in the WIlly Wonka movie looks incredibly edible. And at any other time in life it's like eating something that might not be in any way a food product.
When Colin went into the bitchy 'murcan accent at 2:41 I LOST it! Can almost HEAR Hank Hill! 🤣🤣
1:13 to answer the question: no, it was not played in america. In america they are called baby bottle pops instead of big baby pops. However, the jingle had the same cadence and rhythm in our ads as it seems yours also had
Like magic at 1:22 - how did they synchronize spontaneously, so perfectly, so naturally!
Maybe that was why every one was looking at me weird when I was walking around Dublin in my TRY t-shirt! 🥲
I used to love the orange cupcakes. Way too sweet for me now ( am diabetic)
Hostess went out of business some years ago and was somehow miraculously resurrected. Thing is, when they came back, it just wasn't the same. They SAY that they didn't change the recipes but they damn sure taste like they changed SOMETHING.
I was looking to see if anyone else would make this comment. It is not Hostess. Product size is smaller and the taste is definitely not the same.
It's a completely different company. It wasn't resurrected, it was liquidated. The original company, now called Old HB, still exists but doesn't make anything. They simply hold brands that weren't bought in the liquidation.
The cream filling is lard and sugar spun at a very high speed to blend it to make the filling
hasnt been lard fore along time.. its hydrogenated oil.. which in the long run is actualy WORSE for you
Lolsy is the Hostess with the mostess 👍 sorry, old joke. 🤣
Good one.
Man, would Paddy like some alone time with that cupcake?
7:00 Tell Darren that’s actually what we call them after they’ve been in the freezer for a day or so 😂
The orange cupcakes are one of the best. And when they have the birthday cake flavored ones oh God.

The loveliest lady of Ireland: Lolsy Byrne! I'm already loving this video at 10 seconds in!
My son and his friends loved Vachon cakes. Every kid here in Canada lived on those things. We were not as strict with nutrition in the 90s. Still they were happy which is what really matters in my opinion.
The orange cupcakes are my favorite 😂
Lolsy's munching noises are the funniest thing I've seen today
I can really go for a Hostess Cake right about now...i wonder why i got this sudden craving? Also Darren is a savage and i love it.
That's about right. These kinds of packaged, good for three weeks cakes aren't usually great. Go for a Little Debbie star crunch or a nutty buddy.

To answer Sean's question, yes, we had that Baby Bottle Pop ad in America. We had it in the 90's when commercials were actually great! 🍼🍭
I've been scrolling the comments waiting for someone else to recognize the Baby Bottle Pop tune! Makes me wonder where Lolsy heard it if no one else caught it. 😂
I believe Lolsy was thinking of Baby Bottle Pop.
Thank god. Now I can sleep.
The "chocolate frosting" on the Ding-Dongs is similar to a thin coating of candle wax.
it probably includes carnauba, like the chocolate coating on may candy bars
Colin, while funny himself, isn't really known for laughing, but Lolsy elicits the guffaws. Good pairing!
I used to participate in a MS 150 charity bike ride. One of my favorite things about it, was the Hostess Ho Hos at the rest stops.

Watching this makes me want to go back in time to my nana's house, where we would get the Little Debbie Donut Sticks and dunk them in black coffee before eating them. We were kids, so she always called it dunkee. Hostess has their own version of the Donut sticks, but I've never had them.
3:59 "yeah use that tongue" 😂😂😂😂
I love Hostess especially the fruit pies. They gave y'all the crappy treats.. There used to be a Hostess Store close to me in Florida. I miss it😢
As American who loves Twinkies and most Hostess products.
I NEVER had a single one of these cakes featured in this video.
I actually like the orange cupcakes and my daughter has inherited this love for them too. We don't get them often though.
No Ho-Ho's? Raspberry Zingers? Sadness ensues...
But, I enjoyed the hell out of this video. The Ding Dong's at the end... the vicious attack eating sounds... cracked me up!

Lollsy is never boring. ❤️
I wish you all could have had the hostess cakes i grew up with in the 60's and 70's they was soooo much better back then
Don’t know why, but the sounds Colin and Lolsy made eating the Ding Dongs made me think of the Ents and Treebeard from The Lord of the Rings. 🤔😅😂
