Hi, nice to see one of my favourite Abruzzo towns explored by you both. Regarding the church quandary, I believe it was destroyed in the 1956 landslide. Keep producing the videos, we really enjoy them.
So glad you really enjoy our videos. Makes it all worthwhile when we read such a lovely comment. Thank you so much. Best wishes for a fabulous 2025 Katja and Andrew
Hi, yes, you are correct. The church of San Pietro fell down the cliff in the landslide if 1956. The large church bell was recovered and is a monument just to the left of the church doorway. The ruins you were pointing at in the video are in fact Roman ruins of villas that lie under the city. The medieval town of Vasto was built over the Roman city of Histonium. Many of the houses in that part of town still have Roman walls in them as the medieval houses used the Roman foundations within their buildings. 😊
Ah that's really lovely to hear that we've been missed. We've been a bit sporadic this year due to commitments and health reasons but we are slowly getting back into it all again. Thanks for watching. Saluti a tutti Katja and Andrew
Hello Andrew and Kaja lovely city with beautiful views,Another outstanding video highlighting Abruzzo and its charm.Did you know Gabriel Rossetti,s father was born in Vasto. Ariana Grande,s relations come from here also.Very picturesque place.Fangio the famous formula 1 racing driver comes from the province of Chieti. All the best...john gabriel
Lovely to hear from you John, hope you are doing well. We only knew that Gabriele Rossetti himself was born in Vasto not his father too but I guess that would make sense. We did know that Ariana Grande was from the area and our son who is a fan read that she does come on holiday apparently to Abruzzo. I'm sure he'd be over the moon if he were to meet her! We are not up on the Formula 1 drivers so don't know that one will have to do a little research but there is one called Trulli from the Pescara region who has a vineyard in Alanno. All the best to you Katja and Andrew
Happy to see your new exploration of Abruzzo video. Can’t wait to return to Abruzzo in December. Thanks so much for your videos on this and your other channel. Next best thing to being there. Ciao!
@@ExploringAbruzzowe are arriving at the beginning of December and staying through the first week of January. We have a place in Pratola that currently is having some renovations done (it has been unoccupied for well over 10 years) and , fingers crossed, hopefully it will be completed soon. We have to arrive and kit it out with a kitchen and some furniture before our children arrive near Christmas to see Italy for the first time. If you can recommend any Mercator del usatos in the area that you like, that would be wonderful. I can’t wait to see your next video. I hope the palazzo renovations are going well.
Katja and Andrew, your energy and optimism amaze me. Expat parents of two, restoring San Benedetto, renovating the Sulmona flat, running tours and still making videos for two channels! Thanks to you, we will be visiting Abruzzo in a few weeks and know we'll enjoy every minute. Sending a couple of aperitivi your way in appreciation.
Wow thank you for such a positive comment. Yes you are right we have taken on quite a lot! Also I still freelance aka as SuperPA providing business support to clients back in the UK. Maybe we are just a little bit bonkers but we are loving living in Abruzzo even though we are currently soooooooooo busy. That's wonderful to hear that you are visiting Abruzzo thanks to us; feels like we've done our job in promoting this beautiful region. Where will you be visiting and staying? Thank you so much for the aperitivi, very much appreciated and we will raise our glasses to you!
@@ExploringAbruzzo And a PA too?! You are mad 🤪, but deserve the aperitivi even more. We have taken a flat a few meters from the aqueduct in Sulmona for a week next month. Aside from knocking about in Sulmona, we plan to visit Pacentro, Capestrano, and Scanno, along with a couple of family wineries and an olive press. Abruzzo seems filled with beautiful places, many of which you have shown us. However, those I mentioned are at the top of our list.
