After you get it fired up on starter fluid use spray lube to keep it running this way you don’t dry out rings. Diesels won’t start on spray lube but will run on it. We do it when getting old tractors running.

My grandfather used to have a r-type Mack like that when he had his company, my grandfather and my great-uncle ran the company out of Naranja Florida. I got a soft spot for r-type Macks

I know a guy that does excavating and he runs a 67 or so Mack R model to haul his backhoe and shit. It runs like a champ still, looks cool too and they sound great 👍
I use to drive an old I believe it was a 67 r model mack dump truck with the air actuated dump and tail gate lock, pretty neat , 9 on the floor, she was a runner

that a 673 mack motor a 237 horse power! a 300 mack has 2 turbo and inter cooler i worked on f model mack's in high-school i got out of high school in 1980
broken crankshaft or valve timing for accelerating cold engine. should remove the injection pump and the nozzles to check first if any nozzle gets stuck can wash the cylinder causing the engine to lock up
