    Everyone is talking about the 1,000mph run, but you need to appreciate the risks Andy takes every time he straps himself in... 380mph is dismissed as being almost insignificant, but an incident at this speed would be catastrophic. Respect.

    • @DFWJon
      @DFWJon 11 місяців тому

      VERY CATASTROPHIC INDEED and that ONLY 1/3rd of the top speed at 1,000 mph!!! Definitely looked as though the car was getting a bit upset right before he shut it down. It appeared, to me, as if it started to veer to the right pretty hard!?!?!? Although, I haven’t a clue as to what I am even looking at and/or for at those speeds and that particular vehicle, so maybe it is normal for it to go left or right a little when they start backing down on the power and begin to slow it down, once they reach their targeted speed???

    That does look and sound shockingly normal and routine for something that is going half the speed of sound on the ground. I guess from the cockpit you’d want it to, but... That is shockingly impressive. So far, it seems to run like a new Toyota... Big on safe and reliable, small on exciting.

    Can you please show us the speedometer as the car runs

    • @DFWJon
      @DFWJon 11 місяців тому

      You ca actually zoom in on the speedometer and see how fast he is going. It’s on the left side of the screen in the cockpit video feed. You can make out the 0-1,200 mph dial (looks like an old analog wall clock or old school thermometer) an kind of keep up with it that way. It starts at 0, of course, and each mark is in 100 mph increments. So, it goes from 0 mph to 100 mph, then to 200 mph and, so on, all the way to 1,200 mph. But this run was only a 380 mph test hit and not a full pull, if you will. You can actually see the dial on the speedometer start at 0 mph and go up and up until it almost reaches 400 mph and it starts coming back down. There is also a digital readout, i.e. 203 mph like a digital alarm clock or the time on your car radio, in the middle of the speedometer dial but you just absolutely can not make it out, at all, in the video. But, I definitely get what you’re saying, in regards to a speed/mph display during the runs. Like in the top or bottom corner they could put a digital readout that shows “realtime” speed in mph’s, that way it would be a lot easier to see and keep up with and then you wouldn’t have to watch the video again just so that you can zoom in on the dash and try and get a somewhat clear view of the electronic display that the pilot/driver looks at during each run and then attempt to decipher a grainy looking analog speedometer!!! All the while, the car and the camera is shaking, due to the wildly excessive forces that are exerted all over the car, the chassis, the driver/pilot, each and every one of the cameras that are mounted on the inside and the outside of the vehicle, as well as any and every thing else on AND within this vehicle, while going 380+ mph!!! So yes… a speed display in mph would be really nice down in the bottom corner of the video!!!

    Ok, so! First things first, that looked smooth. It seems that trick front suspension is doing well, I would love to know how rough the surface feels from Andy's perspective. Secondly Bloodhound seems to accelerate faster than SSC did. Is this the case and if so why? Is it the performance of the EJ200 engine over the engines used in SSC or a requirement for Bloodhound to accelerate faster due to length of the track? Hopefully someone from *Bloodhound LSR* will read this and perhaps reply.
    Really enjoying the daily updates. This is the way to do it, to garner interest in the test runs! I'm sure many of us would love to see wide panning aerial shots from a drone tracking the car as it passes by.

      For one thing, Thrust SSC had to apply thrust very slowly up to 100mph. If they did not, with the very large low mounted engine intakes Thrust SSC would hoover up a lot of desert surface which wouldn't have been good for the engines. Above 100mph the airflow was good enough to increase thrust without hoovering the desert. Bloodhound's jet intake is mounted higher, so I suspect hoovering the desert is less of a problem. The one EJ200 weighs half what a Spey did yet provides the same thrust roughly, and the car is lighter than ThrustSSC. So power to weight ratio at the moment with just the EJ200 is probably not vastly different to Thrust SSC. I suspect the desert hoovering is the dominant difference.

      It was the same with Thrust SSC, even formula 1 cars have difficulty driving at low speeds, these cars were engineered for high speeds. So as speeds increase steering will become "easier" minus variables like weather and surface but yeah the car should perform better the faster it goes. There is a great video on this channel of Andy talking through his SSC run and at one point having 90 degree opposite lock and having to throttle back to keep it straight.

      I’m no aero guy or engineer but I’m thinking the car might actually wanna go straighter the faster it goes? Kinda like a bullet or arrow are much more stable at speed. I could be way off though.

    • @owensmith7530
      @owensmith7530 4 роки тому

      Indeed, the speeds they are currently running at are predicted to be the least stable. Grip from the wheels is dropping off, but aerodynamic stability hasn't fully kicked in yet.
