Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well and allows you to buy fewer, better things.

Thanks for the review. I’ve had good luck with the Kirkland/Costco white undershirts. They do darken quickly, but the necks tend not to stretch or sag on me. They’re good as undershirts for work or office wear, but I wouldn’t use them as stand alone shirts. I’ve been using those for about 7-8 years in Florida and west Tennessee humid climates for reference.

Gotta go with The Flat Head for best T shirts in general. I’d recommend trying one out if you haven’t, they have a perfect balance of fit, interesting fabric/weave, a collar that doesn’t suffocate you and doesn’t restrict movement. In my opinion they have no peers.

I've enjoyed high quality t shirts recently, thanks especially to No Man Walks Alone and Grailed. Love all the Merz (have a bunch of them now), but Blurhms and Kaptain Sunshine also put forward some beautiful white t options. Blurhms is odd because it gives off a very casual vibe while simultaneously feeling just like purely well made comfort.
Incidentally, the t that fits me best isn't white but is a Goodlife. At 60 bucks, it's a pretty good value compared to some.

I like cuts clothing, fits really well and very little branding besides an X stitch. Been tough to find shirts that fit my narrow torso and not feel box, which most "standard" fit shirts are, and what's great about cuts is that they offer tailored or standard cuts to fit more body types.

One other thing to add on about Goodfellow & Co. is the variety of color options available. I have been looking for years and have not found anywhere close to the same types of colors you can get at your local target. I’m not a fan of pocket tees as I find it hard to dress them up even slightly for my needs so blank tees are my bread and butter.
I started getting Target brand tees back in high school when I got my first job because that was the best I could afford on a small paycheck. Back then they were still Mossimo brand which is now defunct and replaced by Goodfellow at a much better quality shirt. I still have some Mossimo shirts but those things are riddled with pilling. I’ve worn a good bit of Goodfellow shorts over the past several years and none have changed in texture as much as Mossimo did.
If you’re wanting to experiment with different colors or patterned shirts, I’d say Target is a good place to go. I started out with a literal rainbow spectrum of colors when finding what I liked best and now I have a good assortment of blacks, blues, greens, and reds/pinks. Target is hard to beat when most of their shirts are $6-10 and you can get more color options than much higher quality brands.

Own Goodfellow and Kirkland tees. I am 6' and 200 lbs. I purchased a large in Goodfellow and found it was short and boxy with small sleeves. Medium was too small. Decent quality though. Kirkland is pretty long. So, great as a tucked in undershirt but bunches at the waist if wearing alone untucked. Thanks for the video! Would have maybe liked to see more in the $20-$40 range.

nothing against white tees but there's something about grey melange ones, the slubbier, the better, the way that looking rough but feeling soft texture combines with denim or dark navy blazer is something else. I've tried a bunch of fancy T-shirts and Merz B Schwanen 2-thread is my favourite. Incredibly soft and comfy, good cut on a tall skinny guy like me. Also like Warehouse a lot, they have the most interesting fabric but the fit's not quite as good for my frame. I have one of those Freenote tees and the cut and construction is excellent, but the fabric is not nearly as soft as Merz. To be honest I've had JCrew tees that were about as nice or better as the Freenote jersey.

I consider myself a “traveler,” and that caused me to purchase Merino Wool tees. I wanted six tees I could travel the world with. I bought all different brands at first to see what would work. In that first selection of maybe ten tees made of Merino Wool, I came up with two problems: 1. They’re rarely made in white. 2. When they are white, they stink after getting wet.
I later found an off-white 82%, I think it is, Merino Wool tee by Wool & Prince that really works as an under tee. But the rest of the tees were really not what I would suspect. I wanted six Merino Wool tees that were exactly the same color, size, brand that could just make wearing clothes and easy decision daily. I bought really expensive $100+ Merino Wool tees and cheaper Merino Wool tees on Amazon as low as $40. What I found is that Merino Wool is not all equal. The biggest differences come from wearing the shirts by themselves led to some shirts feeling too heavy and some feeling too light, as in some having a lot of material and some not having enough material. So it really depends on what the climate is for where I wanted to wear them. And since I live in Thailand, one would think the lightweight Merino Wool would work best for me. But I found that not to be the case. For temperature regulation that comes with Merino Wool fabric, a medium to heavier density actually worked best for me.
So I bought six WoolX $40 Merino Wool tees about four years ago on Amazon for my adventures. They have held up extremely well. I still have all six. No holes in any of them. I wear them when I travel. They are great for airline travel or bus travel for days at a time. Great for wearing one and putting one in a backpack for traveling via car and just swapping shirts once a week or so. And I wash them in the sink and sometimes shower and just let them hang dry in the shade. They’re always dry by the next day. I wear them for hiking and do photography, and I wear them on boat rides to diving or snorkeling excursions. They just wear so well.
I kept four other Merino Wool tee brands, Unbound Merino, Wool & Prince, Western Rise, and Outlier. For value, none of these beat WoolX. But for comfort and color choices, Wool & Prince 78% Merino Wool does the job as a shirt to wear by itself. Unbound Merino works well as an under tee as it’s super lightweight. It’s so lightweight that when I wore it by itself, I would sometimes get the chills if I walked into a store that had cold air conditioning, but as an undershirt it holds up well.
I recently thought about switching colors as it’s been about four years and I really want to switch from black to grey. But I found that Amazon no longer sells the WoolX. I found WoolX but they’re now over $85 on their own website. And for that money, I think I would prefer to give my money to a different company.
As for a nice white cotton shirt, that I wear at home sleeping, I go with Calvin Klein 100% cotton. I found four packs at Homestore while I was in the US during the pandemic. I bought four packs of four-pack Calvin Klein tees in white. So yes I have 16 tees that are all the same except four shirts are v-neck. They’re super soft. They have no stitching down the sides. And they cost me $24 per pack of four. So for about $100, I got 16 tees to wear to bed or for wearing under a dress shirt on a rare occasion. I have owned some really nice tees ranging from American Giant and up. But none of them are much more comfortable than these Calvin Klein tees per value. However, if I were wearing them out in public, I would probably choose something that doesn’t state the brand name on them. They have a small Calvin Klein printed on the bottom waist hem. I really don’t want to sell a brand for them in that way. But I sure will with my words here as they’re a great tee for sleeping in or lounging around the house.
      Love the videos here. Cheers.

This is a strange request but can you review different baseball/trucker caps that are good quality? The reason I ask is that I cannot find any that seem good in quality and have a good country of manufacturing. Maybe I’m being picky though, who knows.

I consider myself stout, thus its hard to find a tee which fits well for me. And its not easy to get quality Made in USA tee here in my country without high shipping fees.
I had Hanes Beefy-T through a friend by chance. I like its short length for my short height, thickness just nice for my country's humid climate. But its not easy to find one again. Next best I can get easily here is Uniqlo U Crew Neck, but one problem I notice about this "series" is that the production isn't consistent. What you get now might not the same next season, though the branding is the same. Comparing U Crew Neck to Hanes Beefy-T, U is slimmer and longer in length but thicker material. Considering the climate and fit, I will definitely go back to Beefy-T but only problem it is not easy to find here.
What I like about plain tee. The neck should not crinkle after multiple wears, the body shape should lose its shape into a "A" which is embarrassing like a skirt. And important, white tee stays white not beige or stained, I hope you guys what I mean...

Can't thank you enough Carl for taking the time to give a much needed overview on the basic white tee, from high-end to affordable. (Although even that is relative) A great basic white tee has always been a grailed item for me, as I wear one each and every day. The Merz one may seem expensive, but I think that they use sea island cotton, which is a costly material to begin with. Then you need to factor in the design/finish/and for those in the US import costs. I've worn every conceivable white tee over the years and have never been 100% satisfied, that is until I discovered a white sanforized 100% cotton tee from Zara...Yup! high St Zara! at an incredible $12 a pop. This tee is called 'The T-Shirt' and is amazing....Smooth and soft and brilliant white. It washes great too, slight shrinkage and doesn't require ironing!!

I'm 5'11/150lbs. Need a slim fitting tee. $100 tee is out of the question - risk of dirt and I'm going to wash it after two times wearing it because its gonna smell like my sweat. Will a $100 tee fit the bill of long lasting without getting the stain after wear 20 rendering it unwearable? I dunno.

Howdy, I'm not Carl but randomly I thought I'd give an opinion if you still wanted a hoodie. Not knowing your specs on body size, just in general, I'd say landing a lady white co hoodie or a warehouse hoodie would be your best options. Pretty widely available and come in a variety of colors and fits. For a little extra dough you could do a merz hoodie. For a little less money I'd shop at the online store Huckberry and see what hoodies they have and if they ship to you. A hoodie can be almost 200 dollars or under 100 and both could suit your needs!
