@@MuhammadKharismawan No, they're not THAT similar, but K712 and K7xx are definitely better choices than SHP9500. Those SHP9500 have terrible bass, and I would not say it's a cheaper version of 800s. The K7 series sounds flat and somewhat uninteresting compared to the 800s, sure, cos that's the AKG sound. If you're really looking for similar sound signatures, you should look at headphones from the same company. However, 800 series is fairly unique and nothing else in Senn's line sounds quite like it.

for someons wanting to get in audiophiling (?): - 58x or 6xx? - is it worth to get dac+amp combo or save to get a dedicated dac and amp? Any suggestions are welcome!
Might be a bit late but here are my thoughts: Both are great headphones for it's price, it mostly depends on your preferences and setup, the 58x is easier to drive if you don't have a amp and have better bass than the 6xx. On the other hand, 6xx is tuned really balanced with more details and vocals. Go for the 6xx if you are planning to get a amp. For the dac+amp, I suggest to by them separately if it's your first amp/dac, the schiit stack (modi+magni) is a great combo and you could swap the amp more easily to try a different one (jds lab atoms, bravo tube are all decent options for starters) Hope this helps :)

I would really like to know what your opinion is on the KRK KNS-8400, I've had these for years and I personally love them for studio use. Just would like to know how they compare with other headphones with a similar use case such as the DT 770
I've checked the graph and subjective description over at the sonarworks website. Just about anything is going to compare favourably with that thing, even the first Beats. There's a 10dB Everest of bass bloat stretching from 45Hz all the way up to 400Hz, and there's another 8dB mountain in the most sensitive treble region of 4kHz, a region which is primarily responsible for listening fatigue and where hearing damage most commonly occurs ("the 4kHz notch"), which is why most headphones have a dip there. The treble doesn't get any better from there either. These headphones are absolutely unsuitable for listening to music, only for individual tracking at lower volumes.

@Joshua Valour, just curiosity, did you ever try to EQ the 58X? For example using Oratory1990's setting? It improves the treble, cymbals are more alive. I wonder if this EQ makes the 58X and 660S even closer.
No. The HD660 is noticeably better in detail retrieval regardless of how you eq the 58X. Josh is correct about the overall sound signature, but he overlooked the biggest difference between the 58X, 6XX, and 660s-detail retrieval. I own all three, and the differences are easy to discern. Of course, if one is not interested in listening for the finer nuances of detail (or if you are using something other than Flac/Tidal etc.) just buy the 58X and enjoy. It's pretty great.
@@jamesbittle469 this is polemical, for example Josh said its 95% similar. I hear this talk about detail differences in all forums, some say there is none, some say its a small improvement, some say its a big leap. Since there isn't a very clear position I assume the difference in detail is not that big, as you said you need to listen to the small nuances. Personally I don't believe in FLAC nor Tidal, I never heard any difference, what I believe is mastering of a song. Different masters for the same album will sound different, some have small nuances others are completely different, but I never heard any difference from FLAC to MP3 if both had the same master. Even using Pono, even using the Elear or the LCD-2 from class A amps and good dacs, so I think staying with the 58X might be a better investment to me and in the future it should be better to try a new sound response or something more different than the Sennheiser sound.
@@ElectroIite Anyone who says there isn't a difference is either not paying attention (and no one says you have to, it's definitely cool just to enjoy the music), or not able to due to limitations in source material or hearing. I can discern a clear difference in Spotify and Tidal so I use Tidal. You should definitely go with the 58X; it's a great pair of headphones!
@@jamesbittle469 I never saw someone saying there is no difference, both headphones are different in sound. I'm saying about a real improvement in "detail retrieval". Some people say there is a tonality difference but not necessarily better detail with the 660S. Those people had good hearing, class A amps and the entire Sennheiser collection. Anyway I dont own the 660S and don't plan to buy it at this extremely high price to performance so that's not really my fight to know which one has 5% more detail, I'm just curious to finally have a conclusion of this matter. But each person feels something different about the technical performance.
Hey Sennhieser guys, I only have experience with the HD558 and I hate them because of having zero bass punch for pop, rock, metal, and r&b. So my question is, do the better Sennheisers have more bass punch to them or should I just stay away from Sennheisers all together?
They are made by the same company. You are spending an extra $100 for aesthetics. They even admit it in the questions section on Amazon for the Sigva's.
Hey, the video overall was great but I would have mentioned the comfort issues with 1060s, I think that the headphones are not worth the price when they hurt that much to wear. Well maybe except for Neumann ndh20...
In before metal571 comes in to talk about earpads on the Senn 58x and 660s :D Also, it looks like you removed the foam damping behind the outer grill of the 58x ? Did you do this for your review of the headphone, and are you a believer that it makes a huge difference 'mini 660s' ?
Jeffrey Makuch look at the review diyaudioheaven did removing the foam does almost nothing, but you can do a few mods to have them even closer to the 660
If you ever get a chance to listen to a stock pair of HE500s, theyre insane. Theyre closest to the hd800S in terms of SOUND SIGNATURE; the he500 to be faster in the mids & bass, but not nearly have as much soundstage or imaging capabilities. Because theyre a planar theyre faster & more impactful, & the HD800S would come off feeling very dry
Karbon Kevin s version basically everything the same, supposedly better bass (tho i havent heard anybody say the bass is better on the s) and its conpletely identical but the cable is slightly improved
As a recent subscriber, I am loving watching Josh's videos and very thankful to his expertise. But, I am disappointed when he butchered the pronunciation of Hifiman models. For whatever reason, Hifiman is using all Sanskrit names. Sundara means beautiful ( Su-nd-ara or psu-nn-dha-ra). Ananda (aa-nun-dha) means happiness.
If you get a chance try a HD800 (I guess the HD800S will work because both sound much the same on the THX Amp). Drop THX amp & a Topping D90 Dac. Then try some bassy songs. You're Welcome!
Exactly. Hd800s has lots of low range down to 50hz. Proper Amp+EQ required tho. Nothing can compare to properly powered and tuned HD800s, regardless of price range.
Thanks for the lineup and comparisons as I’m hunting for a headphone, what do you think between Aria vs Focal Clear Pro? I do like highs-mids and detail, but my only background is some Shure 846 and JBL L86 which i just refoamed and they sound amazing😓 Also, how serious are you about road cycling? would be sweet if you talk about that some day🙏🏽
Not sure why you're being specific about the focal clear professional. It's the same as the standard clear, just in a different color and with different accessories
Wow, I don’t get all the love for the Sundara, especially from an Arya fan. The treble is impressive but with the utter lack of realistically weighty bass, it comes off sounding like fingernails on a chalkboard. It’s as if the engineers forgot something. The Ananda’s bass isn’t particularly weighty but it doesn’t have the same problem.

As an amateur I might be totally wrong but for instance I'll want to buy something from the HD800S vs SHP9500 for the soundstaging.
I'm planning to buy the HD58X and SHP9500.
But I'm not sure why I would want to get the M1060C or the Sundara/Edition XX.
The 1060c is on sale right now. It's a very good deal right now. They have a new, different driver then the open 1060.
Thanks 👍
That's what I was wondering, will the M1060C with open grill be the same as the M1060 ? So the M1060C has a different driver.
@@releasethekraken5299 A better driver. The 1060c openback is better then the regular 1060 and requires less mods.
Coud you do the same with iem,s? Curious to hear your opinion
Koss KSC75 in place of Grado SR60 through SR225.
Well Beyerdynamic DT250 is hell of a headphone for 200 $ . Blows out of water everything under 500$ for sure , planar , dynamic , biocellulose , u name it !
The bass extension , the superb upfront mids , the treble , the detail , the cleanness and clarity , the imaging - u gonna shit in your pants and love it ! This is spectacular super precision lightweigt studio grade killer and its closed back , man !
I have many and i mean many headphones and i always come back to this one !
I dont get it , u guys (Z , Metal , DMS and u Josh ) blubbermouthing such en expensive earphones but somehow missed that affordable stunning killer puppy ?
Just grab it and listen !
Hi, would these be enjoyable for music with good base around the $100-$200 mark please?
@@r.k862 Just good bass ? These are studio professional headphones , they have good everything , not just bass . The accent in the low register is sub-bass , however . Go to diyaudioheaven and check the article , i suppose .
P.S. Want the funny part ? i was listening through Thieaudio Clairvoyance ( IEM for 700$ ) while answering you and i decided to DT250 out just for checking , you know .Well , it just pooped on those IEMs while laughing , just torn them apart and didn't even blink . DT250 is a very good headphones indeed , but they are not for basshead , they do have a very good bass , though , a straight flat line going as low as 10Hz .
@@danrdey thank you for your reply I highly appreciate it. Basically I'm a noob and looking around for a $100-$200 headphone that i will use on my phone and pc (I won't be connecting an amp). I would love it to be excellent quality (in every area as possible) BUT i heard from people that studio headphones hardly have any base - i just don't want to be disappointed paying for a $200 headphone but when it arrives to my house that I will be unsatisfied because it hardly would have base to it (I'm not talking about a basehead, but a good decent enough base that will satisfy me). I want the headphone to enjoyable for music, it's not for studio work.
I want it to be wired by the way, i dont want it to have ANC or any of that rubbish. I prefer a around the ear and a closed back.
Please if you can recommend me some headphones according to the description I gave you above.
Thank you
@@r.k862 Dt250 needs an amp , not for you then .Ok , you can go for Akg 361 or 371 , difference of 50$ .
@@danrdey I'm thinking to buy the audio technica M50X, what do you think about them? Are they better quality than the akg you just recommend?
Are the SendyAudio Aiva's sound quality worth the $100 price increase over the Sigva P-II'S? Or are we just spending more for aesthetics?
They are made by the same company. You are spending an extra $100 for aesthetics. They even admit it in the questions section on Amazon for the Sigva's.
@@coolwheelz5190 Thanks Coolwheelz!
Would it make more sense to compare for example Sennheiser HD 6xx to HD650 (or 660s)?
Nobody ever talks about the K7XX in these videos. It’s a shame because they’re really nice budget headphones.
since when is the edition xx the same as the ananda?
what do you recommend for the best gaming headphones for FPS games under $300?
Audeze LCD-GX review soon? I seen them in your B roll shots 😉
I thought you said before Josh that arya is cheap he1000 v2 ... But you didn't include it here??
A future video could probably be a top 3 or 5 headphones/speakers for different price brackets
Hey, the video overall was great but I would have mentioned the comfort issues with 1060s, I think that the headphones are not worth the price when they hurt that much to wear. Well maybe except for Neumann ndh20...
What is the cheaper version of Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro?
Hey Josh, could you compare K712 against HD800S? Thx
A video on world's most underrated hp would be very interesting also.
Would you consider the T1 gen2 a closer candidate than the HD700?
In before metal571 comes in to talk about earpads on the Senn 58x and 660s :D
Also, it looks like you removed the foam damping behind the outer grill of the 58x ? Did you do this for your review of the headphone, and are you a believer that it makes a huge difference 'mini 660s' ?
Jeffrey Makuch look at the review diyaudioheaven did removing the foam does almost nothing, but you can do a few mods to have them even closer to the 660
If you ever get a chance to listen to a stock pair of HE500s, theyre insane. Theyre closest to the hd800S in terms of SOUND SIGNATURE; the he500 to be faster in the mids & bass, but not nearly have as much soundstage or imaging capabilities. Because theyre a planar theyre faster & more impactful, & the HD800S would come off feeling very dry
the HD800s is a hard to swallow pill on the price, the T1 is a hard to swallow pill on that mf 11dB boost on 8kHz
you are just excellent in analytics!
what do you think of the Shure SRH1840 compared to the sennheiser 800s?
Which of the Phillips do you recommend? The "s" version? Or normal?
Karbon Kevin s version basically everything the same, supposedly better bass (tho i havent heard anybody say the bass is better on the s) and its conpletely identical but the cable is slightly improved
Really don't get why the Elex has gone from mild raves to almost totally ignored so quickly.
The audiophile world can be a fickle world...
Elex is the best headphone under $1000
It's the cost of diminishing returns... a bit better is a lot more expensive. Like experience in Pokemon...
Hey Joshua, still great content! Could you help recommending some powered bookshelf speakers for 300-550$/€? Would be much appreciated! Keep it up.
Great video man!!!
i use my denon d2000 for a decade to this day would like to upgrade but have no idea to what,..
I thought 58x is based on HD580j and not HD660.🤔
Any comments about Hifiman HE-4XX and 400i Special edition, the latter is selling at a good price at eBay?
Can you please do a compairson between the Audeze LCD-4 and Hifiman HE1000 v2. Thanks!
he already did a comparison ua-cam.com/video/vzPePhprPDc/v-deo.html
Should I take out the foam out of my 58x?
Thanks Josh. Helped a lot. :-)
Tube amp
Thanks for the lineup and comparisons as I’m hunting for a headphone, what do you think between Aria vs Focal Clear Pro? I do like highs-mids and detail, but my only background is some Shure 846 and JBL L86 which i just refoamed and they sound amazing😓
Also, how serious are you about road cycling? would be sweet if you talk about that some day🙏🏽
Don't know about the Aria, but the Focal are Amazing. Clear, natural, and unbelievably dynamic
Not sure why you're being specific about the focal clear professional. It's the same as the standard clear, just in a different color and with different accessories
Ben I keep on hearing amazing things about it and it’s signature/detail
Malek The color, the normal one isn’t my taste at all.
Can you review Small tube amplifiers?
if you buy from BD it self you can take refurbished T1.2 for 500-600 with full warranty! ;)
True! the Sundara is a little thin and sharp sounding...
I miss the desk setups. Hope you’ll bring it back someday!
