And the fact that Michael Collins attempted to talk with them and get them somewhat involved in the governs of the Island when he could just kicked off a generational war helped the situation. I suppose the Presbyterian-Unionist would be more willing to deal with a Roman Catholic dominated (in their view) Dáil than with a godless syndicalist British parliament. Still, I wouldn't discount the UVF, by the start of the Great War, they were already pretty well armed, even if they lacked the manpower to be very effective since most of their volunteers would have joined the British army when the war broke out. Nevertheless, you don't need many men to cause problems, as the Troubles in our timeline shows all too well.

However, I believe that Ireland would work to ensure its independence from both the Entente and Reichspakt, perhaps only allowing them the right of military access and ship basing.

It would happen. The British Monarchy would just abandon Éire, they definitely have bigger fish to fry. Also it is debatable whether Éire would become a republic.
@@jimmyjohnson1870depends, if there was this sense of European identity at the time, and even then, in the KRTL, the German Empire had made it clear that Mitteleuropa was much more beneficial for them than even the independent states that counted themselves members. However, I believe that Ireland would work to ensure its independence from both the Entente and Reichspakt, perhaps only allowing them the right of military access and ship basing.
