Oh this is just fabulous. What a fascinating and authoritative overview. Your list of favorites is alluring and so well presented I want to read them all. Great Video!!!!!
John Silence is who I think of whenever someone says Occult Detective. My favorite "The Camp of the Dog" what great and eerie imagery of the Swedish archipelagos.
I am quite partial to Dion Fortune's Doctor Taverner (who I am told was somewhat patterned off of Aleister Crowley). For comic books I have always loved Doctor Strange when he fills the role of an Occult Detective.
Great list! Ive always been interested in seeing what Crowley really thought, divorced from what others said he thought, so maybe his fiction would be a nice way to learn a bit and open a few doors.
Neat Video. Hellblazer and Hellboy comics were my introduction to this kind of story. I actually just found a copy of a Manly Wade Wellman's Lonely Vigils which q bunch of John Thunstone and Judge Pursuivant stories. If i enjoy these are the John the Balledeer stories picking up?

Thank you, Thomas. Much appreciated.

I’m a huge Silence fan.
I'm impressed that you actually had the Duke on the list
This video deserves a like
I love me some Wheatley.

I don't see the Crowley connection (but I've heard that too). Dr. Strange has long been one of my favorite comics.
TQ. a new one too me

Moonchild is a great place to start.

The John the Balladeer stories are great.
Excellent list, thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Reminds me I saw an Ep of Monsters 1988 called Rouse me Not with Alex Cord starring as Occult Detective John Thunston yep with his iconic silver sword
Oh yes, have rewatched that one many times.
Manly Wade Wellman's "Silver John" is one of my favorites.
Wellman was incredible.
Awesome list!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
This is amazing! Shared! 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks! Glad you liked it, MJ.
Nice list. I would include Frank Lauria's Dr. Owen Orient. Not as well known as he should be.
I loved those Dr. Orient book covers, especially Lady Sativa!
@@occultdetective Raga Six was my favorite.
Do you have the titles of the R.E. Howard books?
Grab The Horror Stories of Robert E Howard, or Cthulhu: The Mythos and Kindred Horrors by Robert E. Howard
Where would you place J.U. Giesy's Semi-dual series?
Oh, I’m a big fan. Would surely be a contender for Top 20.
Would Lumley's Titus Crow fit into your top 20?
Afraid not. I like the character, but not the stories. Too "Sci-Fi" for my tastes.
No Harry Dresden?
I like Butcher's early novels. I like Dresden. Just not enough for him to crack my Top 10.
My favorite is Seabury Quinn's Jules de Grandin
Can't argue with that. Damn fine stories.
Aloysius Pendergast
Hard to argue with that. Terrific character.
