In the video I said that most of the businesses can be started for less than 2500 USD when I shoukd have said 5000 USD. Thanks.

Could you talk about how to find a place to live there? Philippines dont seem to have a website where you can find all available houses and apartments... or just lots to build yourself.
Onceyou arrive here finding a place is very easy. It’s probably one of the easiest things you can do. When you get to where you are going just ask around the owners love foreign renters
@@jonaske8049 www.lamudi.com.ph/ This is the most popular site. If you like Cebu, I have a lot in Moaboal that I am looking to sell soon.
I agree with everything you said the point about not doing any business the issue with everything you said it relies on trade which only happen for a few weeks every year the best option by far is working online you can live anywhere with good internet that you don't have to pay any Philippine tax you control your hours
Found you around 2weeks ago and I wish I was able to donate....love from jamaica.jist subscribed too,I that I did b4
Calvin, totally agree with you about trying to compete against local businesses, and always remember the truism -The main way to end up with a small fortune in the Philippines is start with a big one! You have to do something different and employ locals.
What's your opinion on setting your filipina and her family up with capital to run businesses and only taking your capital back and then a certain percentage of profit?
Is that really competing with the locals?
I look at it as I am/would be providing 7 people with steady income and food.
I done worked all my life seems like. I'm not trying to get another job when my time comes to go there. I just want to kick back and enjoy life!😊 I am in the process now of building up enough passive income so I don't have to do any work. At least that's the plan!😄
How are you going to make it passive? Real estate or index funds?
@@ericlima4617 bitcoin, ETFs all sorts of investment strategies
@@ericlima4617 yes real estate. I dont know much about index funds and ETFs right now. But I am researching those.
@@johnwales4214 yes sir. I am so ready to retire and just relax. I drive truck for a living right now. And when I hang those keys up, that's it. I don't want to drive anything else! The taxi driver is gonna love me!😂 it's time to rejuvenate!😊
good luck to you sir
I think a husband and wife wedding photography team would excel especially one foreigner and one filipina. That way coupled in similar circumstances would love you and trust you more and maybe a foreigner would be more comfortable hiring you as a fellow expat and his wife will appreciate the filipina working with her and calming down any concerns she may have.
thanks for the great, down-to-earth, no nonsense advice Calvin 👍🏽 You need to be a no BS Life-Coach
😂😂😂 thanks
Umm that's what this is lol...I mean seriously you can find coaching points everywhere in this world
Great vlog Calvin but for me it's kicking back, relaxing, adventuring & enjoying my days in Asia, without work.
My friend just closed his resort in Surigao :( ocean front, built all accomodations, kitchens, boats etc himself to target the backpackers, even tent sites! had a occupancy rate of 95% before shut downs :( now closed for good :(
Oh wow that is sad :(
did he sell the resort?
@@auckie No i pretty sure he just had the 20yr lease thing, not sure whats happening with it i heard the local had gone and taken everything they could!

Well said, Calvin. You're on point here. 👍🏽
Excellent vid Cal. Thanks for posting😊
Beautiful garden in this video!!
Hi my name is Jay and I'm from Ohio in the us. Doing my due diligence in preparations to come to the Philippines for all the right reasons. Some of the things that you mentioned. I'm a business person but looking to retire but still want to do some things to be productive and not just work off of savings or live off of savings. I enjoy business so I want to have something to do and to once again, be productive. I understand everything you're saying and definitely don't want to work against the grain with the locals. Your attention to detail on doing things right is very spot on. Appreciate your video and extremely helpful content.
Thank you again for your boots on the ground advice Calvin. Maayong gabie
From watching and reading hundreds of videos and comments about becoming an Expat what i have learned is that if you did not serve in the Military for 20 years then you will not make it financially as an Expat. best recruitment slogan for the US Military. Serve 20 years then retire in (Paradise)Southeast Asia and enjoy life!!!!!!!! 90% of Philippines Expats seem to be Ex Military.
Great Slogan but we still need to save Social Security also--it's our money and I shake my head every time I think about how they have raided our account! That's like me just going in your garage and taking whatever I like until you have nothing left! Just listened to a new banking guy talking about Bail-ins were passed into law too--always got their hands on our money because we never say anything about it.
I would rather support the economy, I have a trucking business in the US
he never said not to support it
@@auckie I know what he was saying, and I'm agreeing with him.
One thing I admire about Calvin is his speaking ability. It's a Gift. He sounds authentic, and sincere. Those are the hallmarks of a great Speaker and Salesman, without sounding sleezy.
The successful business are those that are not competing with the locals. Such as scuba diving resorts catering to Europeans. I personally know the owner of the Robinson Cruse Beach Resort, Sipalay on Negros island. The foreigner owner and his Filipina wife are running the resort for mainly German and Austrian and I think Swedish scuba diving clients. They even provide certification training and have a large boat for week-long diving torus. He has deals with travel agencies in those countries. He is Hungarian, a scuba diving enthusiast who married a local Filipina who's family owned the land on the beach where the resort was built. The wife side of the family is running the operation. The place was doing well years ago when I visited it. That is one example how you do business in the Philippines.
I've stayed there a couple times too. Super nice and very affordable.
Actually saving money can do as much as having a side business, someone mentioned raising fish, raising pigs or goats, growing your own vegetables and fruits all for your family, this would help you live very cheaply & not be in competition with anyone.
Just spitballing ideas. UA-cam vloggers, teaching English as a second language online to Korean students, website/graphic designer online, wedding photographer and videographer, go pro and drone rentals (buy several and rent them out to tourists)
Other ideas: have passive income. From rental property overseas or dividend stocks. Maybe own rental property in the Philippines if married for a while and you completely trust your filipina wife.
I wanted to start the conversation and this is exactly what I was hoping for - more ideas!
Or buy a condo in the Philippines yourself and rent it out, foreigners can buy condos. Or use it for AirBNB. Probably safer than the pitfalls of owning land through someone else.
Hello Calvin and lovely family
Fantastic to say the least. Valuable information, great ideas, excellent advices! And Above all else, FREE of charge.
Thank you for this great share! Good luck and wish you all the best. Be safe, stay safe, stay healthy! Warmest wishes and best regards brother/Ned 👍👏👍
Another great video!! This gentleman just keeps hitting it out of the park. I must subscribe.
I plan on building a house and a couple of small spaces to rent through Airbnb and aim it at foreigners, exactly my plan mate .In Samal or Talikud island I'm looking at
Great idea!
Me also bruh
u need to be careful because you cant own land as a foreigner
@@adaml2932 I do know that already buddy but thanks anyway
I know a guy that did something similar in Anda, Bohol. Was going good until covid hit.
The wife and I retired in our fifties to enjoy life, not work. I had a 22 year military career then 11 years in federal service career so I made the decision to retire early. Best choice we ever made.
Hey Calvin! Nice video and very informative as always. When I retire and move there, I'm just going to enjoy retirement, my family, and friends there. No plans for working. Thank you for your content and keep em' coming!
Hey Calvin that was great information for those who Maybe don’t wanna set down and watch traffic go by or maybe give themselves something to do because when you vacation every day that a job itself or just sit around that gets old. Love your channel hope to meet you one day keep up the work.
Sat down and watch traffic go by 🤣💪🏾
Starting a business in the PH is usually something that can turn quickly into a nightmare, why? Try finding actual workers that you can TRUST and DEPEND upon. Too often I have heard and met people that have been scammed and screwed over by their workers, happens all the time.
That’s why I am against it!
@@calroach1 Unfortunately Calvin, some people ignore the RED flags and learn the hard way, that's life. :)
@@calroach1 if your wife has own business she ok , as long local don,t know owner a kanu. lol
If a foreigner lives in the province there are so many business ideas you can do. There is nothing in most provinces and if you need something you have to drive to the city to buy it. But if you live in a big city, you are more likely to compete with others and that's where jealousy starts. Nice topic Po and thanks for sharing!
Marry a pharmacist and open a pharmacy.
That's what I did.
Really smart😁but anyone who would marry a good woman could still do a good business...not only pharmacist..😏
Love 💘 your garden feel home 🏡 sick 😷 ok have a great day ❤ 😀 👍 and thanks again for your video 📹 👍
Great info. Mr. Calvin.
Calvin, if you're in a small city or in the province I agree. But in expat alley, especially if you're in metro Manila there are many many foreigner businesses. I get it. if you open a big money operation that locals could never compete with anyway. Like a resort or car or motorcycle dealership or American restaurant. On the other hand, a sari sari store or food cart in the province or small city might make some people mad. But people can always make money online.
This is just my take on things it’s not the Bible. I came here so I wouldn’t have to work.
Foreign competition is the only way filiponos are going to step up their service game.
After 400 years? Its not happening 😅
some of the best advice ive heard congrats Calvin
Outsourcing; Here in Australia, a lot of people are operating there in the Philippines. Some are animation, accounting, programming, architecture and so on. And they're more profitable than other sort of business. And also online businesses based there: low tax and low cost.
Having been to the Philippines many times, the van idea is a great idea. One idea I had was motorcycle tours, as in Vietnam etc. Having travelled to Palawan and touring the roads around San Vicente and El Nido, I believe there is a market for motorcycle tours aimed specifically at foreigners. Good video again, I would also add, if you want to set up a business for your Filipina partner, some of the advice you offer may not apply, just saying...
I agree with you to come here and retire. For me I would not come here to retire without money coming in. I worked 43 years in America to be able to come here and not have to work. My opinion is that young guys need to stay in their home country long enough to make a living. Pay your dues first. coming here to soon, you waste the years you could be earning income. I'm glad i waited until I retired from 2 jobs. plus i have that plus SSN coming in. More than enough money come support myself here. so much more that I am the one helping the locals.
Hey Calvin, did you know Ron from Dumaguete? He’s passed away now but he used to have a bar on the outskirts of Dumaguete and was an expat American and served in Vietnam. Real nice guy.
Do a top 5 ways to have a passive income from the states. I think a lot of us wish we join the military for that pension. Now I'm putting as much as I can in the SNP.
Also, working remotely from the usa as a programmer would probably trump everything in this videos .
From the USA....he is talking about being in the Philippines...I think you mean working as a programmer in the Philippines??
You'll be competing with cheap programmers from China, India, and the Philippines. Good luck!
Or having a rental property in the USA...2000 a month is a lot of pesos
@@dthain do you have first hand knowledge on rental properties? Any direction on where to start...
Thank you for your sharing because I know you have a good heart. But what I'm telling you is what is more profitable business that you can even afford to live overseas.
In my opinion, your best video yet. Love it.
Just a couple of notes. 1. On the bike rentals, the issue is liability, should foreigner get into an accident. Of course, the foreigner is always to blame in case of any accident, so exposure is huge. Also, cost to maintain the bikes is a big deal. 2. Air B&B is a full time business You are operating a hotel, with full service. You need a team of maids and keeping up with the paperwork. You must inform the owner of the place that you will Air B&B it. Also in the USA, some cities are not allowing them any more. Neighbors are complaining about strangers constantly coming and going in. Hotels are doing everything possible to close them down, to stop competition.
Would add to restaurants, bakery's. Good American food, breads, pies, etc. Better than the local crap. Of course, you need a way to order the ingredience from the US, and I am uncertain how to do that. Perhaps find someone via eBay for supplies.
My advice is to get a few properties in the US. Get trustworthy managers to manage the property. No better way to keep up with inflation than R/E. And then relax. Do not spend your best years working. Not fun.
Good one the price is fair works great...awesome info
Online businesses: some people have their business in the Philippines but they're living in Australia. They can hide their money there because of Philippines ' bank secrecy law. Much more profitable business. There are already companies there that are providing supplies and courier services. All you need to do is set-up the warehouse, staffs, paperworks and contracts with other companies.
Awesome! Thanks for informative video.
As usual
Your advice and schooling is simply the Best ❤
(ancestry30secsads,jdjewelrydesgns1,30minsadsX2,blueseal15secsads,) great ideas, I hope ppL start small or diversify & don't bite off more than they can CHOMP
Rentals. Bicycles by an American and motorcycles by a German in Siargao island and surfboards as well by an Italian. Lease land and build for store space rentals (you own the business). We own some since 2003. Generally rental business is the best wherever you are.
Diving gears, small boat rentals for seaside resort spots. Capital is manageable. A lot of foreigners are successful in the rental business but are not talking about it and I have an idea why.
I'd say boats would be a good one. Like real speedboats or even catamarans not those junky, loud pumpboats. In Borocay they have the speedboats but in other places not so much there is probably a niche market for tourists renting or touring in a boat.
@@scott80ca Yes. That would be a great space saver too!
Yeah if I move to the Philippines I'll never even clean a toilet again. I'll hire a maid.
Chicago - represent! Thanks for the information.

Good ideas. I like the Burgers n Beer thing. I was in the Philippines for 3x months N was dying for a good Cheeseburger n it was damn near impossible. Not to mention I like my strong IPAs n that's another once in a blue moon item you can hardly find.
If you don't want to go to the Philippines and make some side money or even enough to support you and a family right away without competing with the locals, invest in US goverment tax lien certificates. All you need is a computer and a good internet connections and your money can make up to %15 every 3 months specially if you concentrate in Florida counties. If thats not your thing, you can start your own one-person telemarketing company selling all kinds of service to Americans in the USA. All you need again is a computer, a very fast internet, and a magic jack so you can have a US phone number. Then start calling help wanted ads on craigslist in the USA looking for telemarketers. Offer your service at the rate they want but explain to them you want to be paid via paypal or direct deposit to your US bank account. They will send your list of clients to call and you do this from the Philippines. The pay maybe crappy if you live in the US but very good if you live in the Philippines. Plus you have that perfect American accent/lingo that Philippine/Indian call center agents dont have.
Enjoy your channel and your insights on the Philippines. One of the rules that you have mentioned many times is not to compete with the locals (can get you beat up or killed). However, in this video, you are advocating foreigner businesses such as subleasing, transportation/tour guide and motorcycle/scooter rental. Each of these would put a foreigner in direct competition with locals. Why are these three an exception to your rule? Thanks.
Loved the video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the information, well needed for me and my future plans
Sunshine I know your all about helping people. I know the average filipino would not invest in the market. I hear many foreigners talk about having failed business. I never hear them say they invest in the U.S. stock market as to make extra income. I hear them talking about saving money, pig farms, small stores. I know some of them have a number of pensions and so do I. I think that some one the aka( foreigner) there participates in one of the greatest wealth tools in history. It don't happen overnight but in the long run with study and by being patient. It's just a better way to increase your income than small store, pig farm, bar, restaurants etc. "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge."
Many of us are retired over here and don't have the time it takes to succeed or don't want to risk losing our income since we no longer work and can recoup our losses. Investing is not as easy as you make it sound. If it was every one would be doing it thanks.
@@calroach1 Thanks for your reply. It ask simple as getting a trading account and investing in a Electronic Trading Fund.aka. ETF. Is investing hard because you say it's hard. I been investing for years. I'm retired. Many invest in their 401k before they retire. I'm just giving some people a different option incase they do have the time. Sometimes we need a change of mind to grow if what we been trying is not working. No disrespect to you or any viewer of your channel.
Nitty gritty knowledge strikes again! These ideas are on point!
I appreciate and thankful to listen to your business ideas...good one 👍
Great Information which this will help and create more jobs for locals if it's done wisely and properly that can support their families and community...thank you...
Thank you very much for all these information on your videos. I'm a Filipino American retired US military for a while now and will be transitioning pretty soon from living in South Korea to the Philippines. I have not live in the Philippines for over 45 years so i'm looking at this move as if I'm moving to a new and totally foreign country and that is why your perspective is so valuable.
great vlog again my friend 👍 I like your vibe and nitty gritty!!
Actually, I was going to do contract work that let one handle jobs no matter where they are, so long as you have a decent Internet. Pumps money into the economy while letting me avoid having to go to an office and lets me take a break whenever I don't feel like working, so long as the contract's met.
Hey brother, I love the way you explain things.
Thanks
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for making them.
Thanks I’m glad you are enjoying them.
Enlightening and inspiring post. I think many regular foreigners in the Philippines can do some of that. I presume the question some of us have in mind is about the legality of owning such businesses as foreigners in the Philippines.
Calvin regardless to personal feelings those of us may not have residual income that will be substantial upon retirement, that's why when I Subscribed about Four Months ago I inquired this info. I mentioned BBQ and you didn't agree with it, then I heard you mention Mike's Beer & Burgers, Mexican & other places.
Truth my brother I don't have intention to complete but I don't just want to retire and not be uncomfortable Financially & looking at a Beautiful Brown Skin Woman, and get bored as well.
So actually I'm glad others sort of Twisted your arm so we can get the Information ( We ) need, not that you haven't given to us, but my retirement maybe a concern if I move there! Trust me I want to be apart of The Brotherhood to help send someone home if he needs a Ticket, I don't want to be one!
Calvin Honor & Respect sometimes is Forced because of another person's Status, I Respect you and Thanks for doing this Clip.

I'm still in USA. Have my filipina family getting into business there now for them more than for me...I've provided capital and will simply get my capital back and then take a small percentage of the profit.
I do understand your POV on many topics.
You said you're from Kentucky I believe? Still in insurance and income from plan renewals? Do you have to ever service any clients and if so how does that work?
I ask because I've previously held my property and casualty license in the state of Missouri.
Keep up the good job. It's nice to see your channel grow.
I hope you get it back.
I’m retired brother 100%. Because of covid it has made it a lit easier to do business by phone but I choose to let it go. Thanksfor stopping by!
@@calroach1 ok I had thought I seen in one of tour older videos where you mentioned renewal income?? Maybe I'm wrong. I dont know.

Hi we grow fish easy to do
At work now so will watch this later. As looking to move there soon. Hows the whole covid 19 and cases and restrictions there. Are u near davao city?
Great value Calvin. New sub here. I have a filipina fiance and have enjoyed the Philippines every time ive been there
Sir Calvin, YOUR FIRST 2:00 said it all
Absolutely! Thanks and I stand by that!
Nice video! For a 57 year old, I'm impressed by how good of physical shape you are in.
What kind of work do you do in the Philippines? Are you "early retired" or working?
I feel the same way about illegal immigrants here In the USA. The only reason I'm interested in the business aspect is to keep the fillipina busy 🤣
I fish halibut Cod and king crab right out of the Bering Sea. I personally plan on starting a ranch everyone has to eat and pig is the Philippine cattle. About a thousand piggys to start off with fattened up should bring in quite a nice profit! Also thought importing some Texas Cattle controlling their diet and selling my beef Foreigner flooded areas like Dumaguete and Cebu. With the pandemic I've had no time off signing on for fishing season one after another. I'm not thinking about someone's business I'll be hurting I'm thinking about the people I can employ and the community that I can better.
Another good way is to start a business in the philippines is with a filipino girlfriend or wife..but put it in both names and make sure you can trust her .
Be very careful with that.
Careful careful if you don't understand Philippines laws of property ownership

Good ideas. I would suggest getting a job in the type of business you want to open for at least 6 months. I see people who dream to open a b and b or a restaurant when they retired. They retired from a job that they did do customer service. Their dreams didn't include dealing with a.h.s.
You are giving my business plans to everyone.hehe..I was leaving last April with some of those exact business plans but when I got to the airport they would not let me get on the plane 😡..now it seems that getting to the Philippines has turned into "the survival of the fittest".. thanks for the information Calvin 👍👌😀🤗🇺🇸

Wow greetings!
Great tips, my mind has never flowed towards business, guess in that department I'm lazy.
I am married to a Filipina from Baguio area. We are looking at coming back from the USA and buying some property to start a farm there. Maybe some AirBnb also. Can you cover how buying land/property over there works? I don’t see anything like the MLS here.
FCThe key to operating a successful business in the Philippines is COLLABORATIONS with Locals. A shared Risk/Reward makes opportunities for foreigners.A possible. Legally formed Partnerships ensure that both parties are aware of the responsibilities/risks of the business. The Attorney Fees and Finance costs must be shared and Notarized.A compent accounting firm to keep the books and pay taxes. I know you think this may sound like a lot of work but "IT TAKES MONEY TO MAKE MONEY".I disagree with have a business that caters to foreigners only, the example of the many failed Bars and Clubs during the Pandemic.
Thanks for your feedback.
Great content 🙏
Yes .... having little bits & pieces of a business ..etc...passive income......owning a bit here & there & is a start.... if ppL have inclination.... incentive .... mind set etc.... to do so....

Calvin, first I need forgiveness, I am older, slower, been shot up not medically, I mean real bullets, and I am about half blind, and have about a half a brain, I am so sorry my friend that sometimes, a lot of times I get so wrapped up in your videos I forget to push the like button.
