I'm 23 and just accepted my first dealership service manager position. It's nerve wracking, but you have to go in with confidence and a plan.

4 months in how has it been?! I just accepted my first manager position at a dealer. I've been a tech for a while.

I'm almost done with my third week as the service manager at a honda Yamaha motorcycle dealership..its going pretty good I would say. My Friend is the general manager and is taking the time to train me himself. He is all about the process as well.

My goal for being a service manager is not doing shit like an oil change two minutes before closing or being the "hey can you hurry up this three hours job it's only been thirty minutes" kind of manager. Transitioning from the restaurant industry we get the equivalent of that a lot

Country club mentality is right... It is the biggest obstacle when competing against candidates with many more years of being a manager. In my experience, number of years does not tell the whole story. Just because Candidate A has more experience than Candidate B does not mean they are a stronger leader or a better fit.
The country club mentality is toxic as it maintains the status quo. New blood helps advance the company forward.
